  1. It was definitely a good article. I read it through from start to finish, and I thought it did a really good job of "filling in the blanks" for someone who never really followed ECW. Good stuff all around.

    NBA Playoffs

The problem with the playoffs isn't that the opening round is seven games. It's that every single game has to have exclusive national coverage. Back when they'd show games simultaneously on TBS and TNT, the playoffs were way more fun to watch. If the Pacers are down 35 points to the Celtics on one channel, there's probably a good game getting ready to wrap up on the other channel. And really, having rest between every two games is ridiculous as well. How are you supposed to get into the flow of a series when they never play on back to back nights? The way it's set up right now, the NBA playoffs last about half as long as the regular season. There's no reason on earth that the playoffs couldn't get done in 5 or 6 weeks.
  3. Batista's a lot like Derek Jeter, because they both give me funny feelings in my pants. I mean....uh......they both dress nice, that's it.
  4. For all Scott Keith's failings, it's extremely rare that I disagree with his ratings by more than one star. Sure, people won't agree with you exactly, but I think if someone knows wrestling, you can get a good ballpark figure for just how good a match was.

    Unanswered WWF/E Questions

The people's elbow got the pin a lot. Rock's title win over HHH at Backlash 2000, his win over Hogan at WM18. The question I've always asked is "How the hell does the people's elbow get the pin when it's a fucking elbowdrop?" Because it is his special move, and he's perfected it so much that he knows the exact angle and velocity to use when delivering it, thus creating maximum impact good enough to secure a pinfall. Maybe it just looks like a plain old elbow drop to your untrained eye, but The Rock has that fucker PERFECTED for maximum effectiveness. Actually, that's not it at all. What you forget, since Rock's been gone so long, is that he had super powers. He was pretty much unpinnable and undefeatable. At WM XVII, Austin had to beat him up with a chair for about a half an hour to actually get a pinfall. The Rock was so magical that he could pin the soon-to-be Undisputed Champion with a DDT. And, as was proven at WM XVIII, Rock's super-powers were so strong, they could actually overcome Hogan's superpowers, allowing him to be invulnerable to the legdrop of doom.

    NBA Playoffs

Considering that Duncan was rusty, and considering how hot the Nuggets have been, I actually kind of thought they'd take Game 1. This is another one of those series that I figure is going to come all the way down to the seventh game. I still think the Spurs will pull it out in the end, but it could easily come down to one shot.

Head 2 Head Fantasy Baseball 2005

Yeah, my pitchers are great as far as the actual pitching goes. Oliver Perez is my only starter with an ERA over 5.00, and Clemens has only given up one run in 28 innings. I still can't get wins though, as Clemens only has one win in those four starts, and my other starters have combined for three on the season. I guess the run support my starters are getting in real life is just mimicking the run support they'd get on my team, because I haven't been getting shit for hitting. I'm finally going to have bench Griffey this week, as he's batting .200 with 0 HRs and 3 RBI. Really Glaus and Reyes are the only players I have that have been doing shit batting-wise.

    Orton

Yeah, how can you possibly say that Orton's been jobbed out to where he has no heat, and then tout Christian as an alternative? Orton's lost to a couple of the most established and respected wrestlers on the rosters on major PPVs. Christian's 4-14 on Raw this year. It's true that Batista demolished Orton on Raw, but if they use the shoulder as a reason, have Orton point it out, and go fuck up Batista so he's not 100%. I don't see any reason why he wouldn't be a credible challenger for the belt. Remember, he's not going to be back for months yet, so it's not like the length of the Raw match will be burned into anyone's memory. It will be as distant as Orton's win over Batista seems now. The thing is, they actually have solid backstory for a feud. They used to be in a stable together. Orton got kicked out, tried to take down the stable and failed. Then Batista chose to leave the stable and managed to pretty much destroy it. Thus, Orton's inherently jealous of Batista and wants a piece of him to begin with. Furthermore, Batista took Orton's shoulder which he knew was injured and bashed it ito the ringpost repeatedly, causing Orton to miss three months. Orton wants to avenge that and show that hes able to beat Batista when he's at 100%. I think that they could get a minimum of two months of solid feuding out of that, and maybe even longer if they play their cards right. I don't see why everyone's hating on the "legend killer" gimmick either. He's not Goldberg or Brock Lesnar. He doesn't need to be undefeated. His gimmick is that he's a cocky young punk who wants to take down the veterans to build his reputation. Sometimes he manages it, sometimes he doesn't. He's not the legend that can't lose, he's the legend killer that picks up big wins. If you want a heel other than HHH to get the title, I think that Orton's a way better candidate than Edge or Christian.

    Unanswered WWF/E Questions

C'mon of all the questions you could come up with, that was the best one? How about why don't they just climb up the ladder in 5 fucking seconds as soon as their opponent's stunned, grab the damn belt and be done with it. The reason the RVD/Guerrero match was so great a few years ago, is that it's the only WWF/E ladder match I've ever seen where they don't spend a minute and a half stalling everytime somebody climbs the goddamn ladder.

    NBA Playoffs

Hey, fuck off. Shawn Bradley's the man. He's really underrated as a defender and rebounder, and I have to just stop paying attention to what he does so I don't get pissed off about how little he plays. I know it's kind of weird, but Shawn Bradley's still my favorite player in the NBA. I always look at Keith Van Horn, and for just a second, I get hopeful that they put Shawn in the game. Then, I realize this other guy's 8 inches shorter, and has speed and a jumper. Too bad though. I guarantee that if Shawn Bradley was starting , he would be able to run even with Yao Ming if he didn't completely outplay him.

    Orton

I think Orton/Batista would be great. They just have to get Orton's heat back when he comes back on television. If they do one of those scenes where Batista is arriving at the arena, or maybe even walking to the ring for a match, and then have Orton bash the fuck out of Batista with a baseball bat or something. They need to have it be a total surprise when he comes back, so that it as impact, and then afterwards, he can talk about how he was just evening the score for what Batista did on the ringpost, when he aready knew Orton was injured. As long as he gives Batista a brutal enough beating and Batista sells it, (maybe even with the hospital interview and the whole bit), I think the feud would get over huge. They just need to let Orton cut the cocky interviews while Batista is gone, play up the "will he able to compete at Summerslam angle" and let the fans yearn for Batista to come back and even the score. Really, the only variable that would keep the feud from getting over is how Batista is booked in the meantime. If they do good enough with interviews, etc., that the fans are still into Batista, then they'll love the feud. And if Batista's turning into a lame duck, or even if he's lost the title, it will still be a nice notch in Orton's belt to take the big man down. I can hear it now, something like: "You think you're the future Batista? You're 36 years old. You're just another dinosaur for me to roll over. You may have won the Royal Rumble, you may have beaten HHH for the World Title at Wrestlemania, but now? You're just one more legend killed by Randy Orton."

The OaO NFL Draft 2005 Thread

Just looking at Arizona right now, I think they're having a good enough draft that it could get them back to the playoffs next year. I honestly think they got both the best offensive player and best defensive player in the draft. Antrel Rolle is probably the most talented guy in the draft, as he's an absolute shut-down corner and is actually ready to go at the NFL level now. Arrington got robbed of the Heisman trophy last year, and gains yards like none other. I see him running for 1000-1200 yards next year, and he should be a strong candidate for Rookie of the Year.

    This Week In Baseball

Well, since that would probably mean the Orioles win the AL East, I would be tremendously excited. I probably wouldn't go to church, but I would run screaming through the streets, drunk and naked.

    NBA Playoffs

The Rockets have been really hot lately, so I'm not that surprise to see them take the first game from the Mavericks. I've said this series is going seven games all along. Considering the Mavericks haven't played a meaningful game in over a month, it's only natural it will take them some time to get back in the zone. If they lose Game 2, then I'd be worried, but for now, I still think they should beat Houston and Phoenix in 7, and make it to the Western Conference Finals against San Antonio. Once they get there though, they'll get slapped down. Getting Dampier to play the post was a cute idea, but he's still not going to be able to guard Duncan. I still wish Cuban would have just traded Nowitzki for Shaq and re-signed Nash. I just wanted to see the Mavs win one or two rings.

Does the public know it's no longer WWF?

Also, with wrestling, there's still a lot of people that watch occasionally, but not every week or will watch part of the show, but not go through from start to finish. I'd say the total audience is probably just over three times the amount that watch one of the shows in a given week. If that's the case, then there are still 20 million people that follow wrestling to some degree. That leaves roughly 93% of America doesn't give a shit about wrestling whatsoever.

The OaO NFL Draft 2005 Thread

I haven't been following the draft that close, and I just read the last page of the thread, so forgive me if this has been covered, but how the hell did JJ Arrington slip down to the second round? I really think he was the best player in college football last year, and he was only a junior. His ypc average was better than anyone else from a major school by a decent margin, and he still had plenty of carries. I think there's every reason to think that he'll be a better NFL RB than Cedric Benson (who went Top 5?!). Benson had one of the best O-lines in college football last year, and basically just hit open holes for five yards at a time all day. Vince Young, as a QB, often ran for as many yards as he did. I really think that you could have plugged about 50 or 100 different backs into that Texas offense last year and got 1500 yards. I really don't see why someone like JJ Arrington who could be really special ends up that far behind Benson.

    Top Ten NBA Players

All right, maybe I overrated West a tad, as when I look at my list again, it does seem to be pretty heavy with players from the '60s. I could see dropping him down to 8 below Magic, Bird, and Shaq. However, he really was a tremendous player. When you combine the Celtics' dynasty with the unbelievable level that Wilt played at, it's obvious why MVP awards were at a premium during that era. I know that Robertson is widely considered to be slightly better than West, but I think that West still deserves consideration for what a clutch playoff performer he was at the time. He averaged 29 ppg in the playoffs, and if the three point shot had existed at the time, he would likely have several rings. I don't see how someone like David Robinson who was basically a good stat guy for a few years can be placed ahead of Jerry West and Oscar Robertson who were undeniably the greatest perimeter players over a 30 year period. (The way I figure, the NBA really got going in the '50s, so that's the time period that it's credible to compare over.) As for Shaq, he was definitely "the guy" for the 00's decade, but he hasn't done enough to be one of the all-time greats yet like Wilt or Kareem or even Bill Russell. I wil say though, that if he wins a ring with the Heat, it would make a solid argument that he was better individually than Bird or Magic.

    Top Ten NBA Players

I'd definitely put Wilt at #1 over Jordan. No one's ever dominated the game the way Wilt did. He averaged 50 points and 25 boards for an entire season. He scored 100 points in a game. He's just done things that no one else ever even though of. I agree that Shaq's a great, underrated player, and I can see him as one of the top ten of all time. Number two though? That's a little ridiculous. He's won some titles, and had some MVP-quality seasons, but he's never been truly dominant. If I made a top ten of all time, it would probably go like this: 1. Wilt Chamberlain 2. Michael Jordan 3. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar 4. Bill Russell 5. Jerry West 6. Magic Johnson 7. Larry Bird 8. Shaquille O'Neal 9. Karl Malone 10. Oscar Robertson

    What is the WWE?

If you want to know what "direction" the WWE's going in right now, its basically that of a traditional 80's NWA-style wrestling promotion, but with lots of good matches on TV. That's it. There's no fancy new concept or marketing slogan. They're not trying to be anything "different." They're just trying to work as a basic, classic, wrestling promotion. That's what's up with the traditional face/heel roles, nine month title reigns, and rather simplistic character development. Really, if they want to improve business, they don't need any gimmicks, and they don't need any catchy slogans. What they need to do is write decent feuds, and have a little bit of character development. For instance, when HHH loses the World Title clean to Batista at Wrestlemania, it should affect his character. It should make him paranoid and angry, and he should be desperate to try to take Batista down. Instead, the writers got lazy, and they're just like "well, let's have HHH talk about hitting the Pedigree, and then have Batista kick out. That will get him over. Twice a year, they'll write a decent feud for a few months, and the rest of the time, they're just lazy as fuck. It's not just HHH either. They're doing the same thing with JBL on Smackdown. He was the longest reigning champion since 1996, so they job him out in ten minutes, and then have him win a tournament to get another title shot. It just makes no sense. Their shows aren't that bad, but if they can't write decent main event feuds, business will remain mediocre. Oh, and NO ONE wants to see murder angles on WWE television. I didn't even like the "Who ran over Austin" angle.

    The OC

I have to say that the whole "busting the drug dealer" subplot didn't do much for me. The whole thing's just stupid, that Trey would cause all that trouble for no reason. Also, the idea that the girl that passed out and went to detox didn't get a second look from the cops kind of bothered me too. In general, I'll be glad to put the whole thing behind us. I still have high hopes for next week though. Marissa's needed a real man for a while, and I think Trey will fit the bill better than Ryan. He's been doing this sulky bullshit forever, and it's wearing kind of thin.

    Jim Ross d. Triple H!!!!

Yeah, next time Bischoff "forces" him into a match, he should just be like: "Fuck you, I'm not a wrestler. If you think you've got a better play-by-play guy, then replace me, and if you don't then get the fuck out of my face."

    Things that seemingly everyone hated

I still the think that the leadup to HBK/HHH at SS 2002 and then the actual match there were the best feud and match the WWE has had since WM X-7. I was also really happy that HHH retained at WM XIX. Booker T would have been the least deserving champion in WWE history. (Remember, JBL hadn't won the belt yet.)
