Well, when he was in the nWo, he was trying to be a cool heel to begin with, and he'd been gone for years, so the fans were happy to see him no matter what. I'd venture to say that he might have been more popular as face then, than he is now. There's really no reason earth that he couldn't have a good heel run right now.

2005 WWE Television Win-Loss Record & Standings
iggymcfly replied to UseTheSledgehammerUh's topic in The WWE Folder
This thread kind of reminded me of something. There's a reason Christian's not over. It's not that he hasn't been programmed with the right people, or hasn't had the right kind of mic work, or anything like that. It's that he never wins matches clean with his finisher. If he'd just beat one person a month on Raw clean with his finisher, it would be absolutely huge for his credibility. -
She actually looked kind of hot there for a minute. Then I focused on her mannish face for a few seconds, and the attraction quickly faded. If anything, she looked kind of decent when she was Mighty Molly with the blond hair, but since then, she has not been attractive at all.

How do you know that? Because he's a no-talent hack who can't cut a decent promo, and he can't keep a match interesting for more than five minutes. He was over and was certainly a better wrestler than HHH at the time. Booker would have flopped? What exactly do you call the three or so months after Triple H held on to the title? A success? Call it a lesser than two evils argument if you must, but that fact is Booker would have done equal, if not better business if he had won the title at Wrestlemania. Read the originial post in it's entirety. My whole argument was that since Booker's reign was going to flop anyway, they were better off saving the rub for later. Sure, HHH's reign might have been just as bad, but that kept Benoit and Batista's later WM wins special instead of being obvious and anticlimactic.

Actually, that would be funny. Just have them see who can shotgun the most beers in a minute. It would be even more funny to see what they did if Sandman "shot" on Austin and actually drank more beer than him.

OH MY GOD! Actually, to be honest I don't think he did. I mean, wasn't he engaged to Chyna? I'd say that if you make the move from that crazy, ugly, psycho to a chick who's really hot, but still a little mannish (which is obviously your thing), you'd probably marry her no matter what.

It seemed really strange at first, but I've actually gotten to really like this board's policy on new members. Don't try to get new people, just try to make the discussion as good as possible; and if someone's making the discussion worse, just kick them off the site. I'm guessing that the mods here would agree with me that the "Get Out the Vote" campaigns are the worst idea ever, and that if anything, we should bring back a form of the "literacy test" to make sure that people can't vote if they don't know what the hell they're talking about.

I was just thinking, can you really justify calling thesmartmarks.com the "main" site anymore. I bet the forums get at least 100 times as many hits as the "main" site does.

Somehow, I have a feeling that might not be a problem.

Booker T to Become U.S. Champion Again Soon
iggymcfly replied to QuestionMan's topic in The WWE Folder
That was the Intercontinental Title. Since I haven't followed Smackdown, I assumed that Booker won the US belt as well sometime this summer since he was on Smackdown in July of this year. -
Getting rid of Lindsey was huge. She was draining the life out of the show bit by bit. I actually find that I don't mind Zach as much now that she's gone, as I kind of feel like my resentment of Lindsey was rubbing off on him as another new character. And quit tempting me with those spoilers, damn it. If I wanted to ruin the show, I'd go search for them myself.

I don't know what's sadder, that they're showing a replay of the first episode of this piece of shit on Sunday night, or that I'm actually watching it. The worst part about it all is that I have got two huge papers due tomorrow that I haven't actually started writing, and I'm only watching this show to put off working on them.

Seriously. I would have hated Dama back when I was in undergrad. I'm just fine as long as you're following the rules. Keep your drink in a mug with a lid or a bottle and don't dip and you're fine. It's really not that hard. But then you get those tough shit "too cool for the rules" bastards that think they can do whatever they want and then I get pissed. And I have thrown people out before and I have written tickets and the tickets hold up. Oh god. You do that too. You mean if I had a coffee that I needed to stay awake, when I've been studying all night, you'd be in there telling me to throw it away? FUCK YOU. GO DIRECTLY TO HELL. Honestly, if you think of a job as a library security guard as something other than a jack-off paycheck where you stop people from stealing books occasionally, you're a self-important prick. And you were saying you give people tickets? It's not bad enough that you harass people, you give them tickets too? You're pathetic.

The thing about heels is that when they get over, then by reflection, the faces that beat them get even more over. If Booker T got a title reign, it would have flopped no matter what. However, if HHH jobbed at WM three years ago, it would have felt less and less special each time, to the point where whe he beat Batista, there would have been hardly any buzz at all. Because of that Booker T match, people actually thought that HHH would beat Benoit, and some people even thought he'd beat Batista.
-
So, basically you're saying that HHH didn't put over Batista well enough because he didn't abandon he WWE to make movies afterward? Riiiight. Actually, Brock didn't take Rock's "spot" because Rock didn't have a spot. He'd only been around for a month and a half.

Actually, I have to admit, I thought Billy Gunn was great in the Mr. Ass gimmick. He was funny, and he was a really good heel. He was even my favorite wreslter for a few months before he got hurt. It wasn't until after he came back and had nowhere to go that he got boring. Also, when he came back to Smackdown, the roster as a whole was about 500% better in the ring then they were when he left, so he looked pretty deficient in comparison.
-
Yeah, it seems like it's not coming together very well at all right now. However, "bomb" is all relative. While it won't draw anywhere near on the level of a regular WWE PPV, I bet it still draws at least as well as one of the old ECW PPVs would. As long as they can bring in a few guys outside the roster, they'll be fine.
-
When's the last time you heard Christian swear on Raw? Or Edge? Or Hassan? I'm pretty sure that Angle got over fine as a heel too when he was doing his "dopey" gimmick where he wouldn't even think about swearing. If anything I think swearing is more useful on a face than a heel. HBK would be awesome with a heel turn right now. As long as they did a subtle turn, with HBK getting preachy with the roster, it could be terrific. One note though: When you're making a topic, you should usually give some clue what it's about in the topic. All "why don't they" says is click here if you want to find out what I'm posting about.

Booker T to Become U.S. Champion Again Soon
iggymcfly replied to QuestionMan's topic in The WWE Folder
Well considering that he actually brought the belt with him to the WWF, there's no way that you can avoid counting the reign. Even if you only count the reign as starting after KOR, he still held the title. -
I didn't realize that it was ever out of the question. They finished in third last year and did improve the team (even if it was minimal) during the off season, so to me, not finishing third would be disappointing. As for .500, I thought coming into the season that they had a pretty good shot at getting over .500 (most odds places have them finishing slightly over .500). I still think they are going to have to play above their heads to get into second place or any sort of serious playoff contention, but it would almost seem like a disappointing season if they finish below .500 and below 3rd place. Yeah, that was my expectation going into the season; something like 82-80, maybe 85-77. The way they're playing right now, it makes me think that contending for the wild-card isn't out of the question. I mean we all knew their lineup was good enough to compete. If they can just pitch decently well, they should be really good. They're 8-4 right now, tied for the best record in the American League, and coming off a sweep of the Yankees. I'm going to enjoy it, damn it.
-
Maybe they were talking about when they turned the ratings around in 2001/2002.
-
Does anyone else think that Minnesota might still have a shot at making the playoffs? I mean it's not going to be easy for Memphis to beat San Antonio or Dallas in their last two games, so if the T-Wolves can just win their last three games, they should be able to make it. I think it would be really hilarious if after all that demonizing of the T-Wolves, they actually made the playoffs, and maybe even won a series or two.

I know someone who had the magazine, and got pissed off that Metallica wasn't on the list, and promptly threw it away. Just my little anecdote. I do think Michael Jackson should definitely be higher than Sam Cooke though. Do people even remember him now?

Wow, you were really desperate to find threads to keep the folder going.
