How could you forget Randy Orton. I swear to god, every other post in the WWE forum over the last few weeks has been about him. Edit: Didn't see page 2 of the thread. He's certainly a main eventer though. He main evented at Summerslam, Unforgiven, Taboo Tuesday, New Year's Revolution, and Royal Rumble, and he's in one of the four super-hyped matches for Wrestlemania. I'd actually consider him more established as a main eventer than Cena at this point.

Well, innings pitched is a mandated, non-competitive stat, so it's really 7 vs. 5. I was almost sure that we had 7 vs. 7 with losses and earned runs during the draft, and all I was proposing was bringing one of them back, so that it was 7 vs. 6. One category's no big deal, but two does make a difference, particuarly for people who built there team around low-risk pitchers that wouldn't give up a lot of runs.
-
Hey, what happened with the stat categories? During the draft, I thought we had losses and earned runs allowed as pitching categories, but now neither the league settings nor the front page of the thread have them listed. If it was changed to get people to use their pitchers, I'd propose we leave one of them so that hitting doesn't become much more important than hitting, as there will still be an advantage to using pitchers if both wins and strikeouts count positively.

I understand that, but who is the last guy that Taker put over like that? I can't think of a single one. Very, very few guys get over like you decribed. Both participants generally have to be great workers (like Bret and Austin) and Orton and Taker are not great workers by any strech. I don't think Taker is capable of doing it. John Cena at Vengeance 2003. I thought he put him over fine. If you want an even better one, there's the Raw match with RVD that ended with the Dusty Finish. He lost the heat after jobbing to Lesnar and HHH and then getting moved way down the card, but Taker definitely put him over.

You're spot on about Batista. I could not for the life of me figure out why everybody here was spooging in their pants over a roid freak in a designer suit and sunglasses. ....BUT HE'S PIMPTISTA! I think "Pimptista" is just the second level of TSM latent homosexuality after the night Randy won the title and everyone was like "oh he just LOOKS like a champion! It feels so right!" Don't be a homophobe. We can't help if it Batista is a sexy piece of man. The Orton stuff on the other hand, that was just gay.

The actual interview sounded a lot worse than that quote actually. It was all on how "you" finally brought me down. It almost sounded like he was announcing that he was out for the season with hurt feelings.
-
If you listen to the interview, I swear to god he's blaming his injury on the media.

Just a question on the league? Are we going to add a DL spot? I think it would be handy if we did, but if not, I should probably just release Trachsel since he's not pitching for three to six months.

The NBA is absolutely ridiculous with the way they fire coaches. It doesn't matter how far above expectations the team is, if they hit a cold patch and go on a losing streak, the coach gets fired instantly. I just don't get it. The thing is that these games don't even matter. Whether the Cavs get a 4, 5, or 6 seed, there's really no difference. The lack of patience astounds me. Basically, unless you're Phil Jackson, Larry Brown, or Greg Popovich, you're not allowed to hit a losing streak or you're gone.

Oh, I only watch the show for Woody Paige. 1st and Ten is the only segment I ever care about, and I'm 90% sure that Skip Bayless's purpose on the show is to be obnoxious and self-righteous so that you can enjoy seeing Woody knock him down.

Well, I've had my eye on him for a while, and apparently he's still available, so I'll take: SP Russ Ortiz

You act like Pete Rose bet against the Reds or something. Who cares if he gambled on some American League game that had nothing to do with him, or even if he bet on his own team to win. It had absolutely nothing to do with the outcome of any of the games. And as for "associated with gamblers", what in the hell is that supposed to mean? I gamble sometimes. Does that make "associating" with me a crime? McGwire used illegal substances to affect the outcome of baseball games, and he did break the rules as Faye Vincent outlawed the use of steroids in 1992. Pete Rose may have broken a rule, but its effect and its scope were nothing compared to what McGwire did. Furthermore, it did not contribute to any of his accomplishments whatsoever, whereas McGwire's primary achievement, (the 70 HR season) would never have happened without steroids. The more I think about it, I wouldn't mind keeping all the juicers out of the hall.
-
Yeah, my brackets are in terrible shape right now, as I'm absolutely dead last in my money pool. However, since almost everyone picked Carolina to go all the way, I can actually still win it as long as Duke and Illinois meet in the championship.
-
If I was in charge of the Hall of Fame, I would probably put McGwire in eventually, but not until Pete Rose had been in the Hall for at least 20 years, because what he did wasn't anywhere near as bad as what McGwire's done. (And proof or not, McGwire did take steroids. We all know it. The lack of "proof" didn't stop Pete Rose from getting kept out, did it?)

I'll admit it. Louisville played a tremendous game. I only got to see the first half, with a little bit of that being switched over to Duke/MSU, but when I did see it, Louisville was playing perfect. They were hitting every shot they took from outside, playing solid D, and not turning the ball over. I think the thing with Georgia Tech this year is that I just kept waiting for them to turn into last year's team. I figured that with four starters back from a team that made it to the national championship, they'd eventually just "get good" again. However, BJ Elder's been playing clumsy ball ever since he came back from that injury, and they just never started hitting shots like they did last year. By the way, it wasn't just me that thought Georgia Tech would win, as they were actually a one point favorite in Vegas at tipoff time.

The game was pretty much over as soon as Chris Paul fouled out of the game. They just didn't have anyone else that could get the job done on the offensive end. It's kind of funny. People said Wake should get a 1 seed, because it wasn't their fault that they lost to NC State without Chris Paul. However, when it came down to it, it was their inability to score without Paul that eliminated them.
-
Ditto. I want Wake to win just because I've missed so many games today that I don't want to lose any more, but I think in the long run, a WV win would actually help me.
-
Hey, Kentucky won. I can't believe I actually got one right.
-
Two questions: 1) What's with the spoiler tags? and 2) What's with taking the perfect player to split time with Griffey at Utility? Sure, they'll both be injured half of the year, but they were going to alternate, so that at least one would be healthy at all times.

Actually, if Duke were to lose to Mississippi State, I'd say that Vermont would have a legit shot. They're not losing of course, but IF they did, UVM would be in good shape.
-
I noticed that immediately. I remember saying that it looked like Duke had a "free ride" to the Final Four.

Today's off to a really bad start for me. I had both Gonzaga and Oklahoma in the Elite 8, and then since I had Pitt in the UW/Pacific game, I put $10 on Pacific to have a rooting interest there. Well, every single one of those went wrong for me. Hopefully, at least Boston College will win and cover, because I put the last $30 in my gambling account on them, and they're one of the few Sweet 16 teams I have left that wasn't picked by everyone else in the country.
-
Note to self: The "team that steps up in big games theory" is an absolute FALLACY. I tried it on Pittsburgh and Gonzaga, and they were both completely wrong. From now on, when I see a team like Stanford last year or Gonzaga this year that can barely beat the Cougars, they're going out in the second round every time.
-
Fuck my bracket. I've got 5 Sweet 16 teams wrong and one Elite 8 team gone with Gonzaga losing. The only reason I've still even got a decent chance is that I'm about the only one who's got Ga. Tech and Duke going as far as I have them. As far as the games so far though, I've just been getting my ass kicked.

GREAT MOVE jacking up a shitty three in five seconds when there was plenty of time to go to the basket.
