Yeah, this LSU game puts me to 13/16 on the day. That doesn't sound too bad on it's own. but 2 of the 3 teams I had winning (Pitt and LSU) were also in my Sweet 16. I'm actually looking pretty shitty after Day 1.
-
It's not like I'm within 1000 miles of either of the school involved. There's just a lazy mother fucker at the switch. If I wanted to watch shitty basketball with no options to see other games, I'd watch the goddamn NIT.
-
Make that four times. They're still not going. They've even got the UCLA/TT score on top with the other scores because they can't believe we're not watching the Creighton game. If it wasn't for the internet, I wouldn't even know what's going on.
-
My CBS station is fucking terrible! Creighton and WVU are tied with under 20 seconds, and I'm stuck watching a timeout of the UCLA/Texas Tech game. I've heard the commentators say let's go to Clark in the studio three times, but they haven't gone.

If you haven't yet, you should read Bill Simmons weblog for the tournament today on Page 2 of ESPN. It's got tons of funny insights that are enough to keep you from paying attention to the basketball for a while, and he even mentioned that Batista and Bradshaw were playing in the Gonzaga/Winthrop game.

I just have thought Arizona was overrated all year, and I thought that Utah State was one of the most dangerous mid-majors. They did beat Utah by 25 and then beat Pacific in the finals of the Big West Tourney. Also, the slow-down style they use is the same one that WSU used to beat the Wildcats in Tucson, and nearly pull off the sweep in Pullman. As far as Utah State having the legs to pull off the upset, well apparently I was wrong on that one. I wish I could have watched the game to see what happened, but since I didn't, I really can't say why they lost.

Actually, not one of the higher seeds is leading right now. I'm sure that Wake will come back, but Gonzaga could easily blow it, and Arizona likely will. I've thought all along that Gonzaga would be more vulnerable in the first round than in the second or third. Watching them sleepwalk through a near-loss in Pullman was all it took to see how easily this team takes games off.
-
Well, I like my gambling, and I've got Wake in a teaser, so that removes it from consideration. In Gonzaga/Winthrop, all I can do is root for a favorite to keep my Elite 8 intact. Plus I hate Gonzaga. Boring.
-
Yeah, I'm stuck with Gonzaga, likely the least interesting contest of the evening. I'll go somewhere to watch the second half of Utah St./Arizona though. And I agree completely about the CBS scoreboard. It's extremely convenient.

Ok, I'm up to 7/8 in the TSM pool after going 4 for 4 in the afternoon session. Cincy and BC are both great against bad teams, so those were easy picks. I waffled on the Utah/UTEP game a little bit, but I finally figured that Utah didn't have enough of a tournament history to overlook their first round game, and talent-wise were just a little bit better than UTEP.
-
Yeah, I was bitching about it earlier, but I really don't mind right now, since I bet Montana to cover the spread as a 20 1/2 point underdog.

anyone been watching the Congressional hearings?
iggymcfly replied to The Czech Republic's topic in Sports
Actually, it's more congressmen trying to make names for themselves as crusaders against steroids. I don't really see how the executive branch has anything to do with this whatsoever. -
The game I'm looking forward to is Utah State/Arizona. That's the biggest upset I have picked for the first round, and I really want to see it hit. If I want to watch it though, I'm probably going to have to get out of the house, because I don't think they'll be showing it here.

Weren't piledrivers banned back in like, '00 or '01, before Cena was even working for the company? Yeah, they've been banned for a while for everyone not named Mark Calloway. When people don't know what they're talking about, they just tend to make things up.

What do you know, the Grizzlies have actually made a run to get it back into single digits. If they could actually win this game, that would be awesome. And Dama, the tourney only runs Thursday through Sunday for the first two weeks. Then the third week, they have the semifinals on Saturday and the championship on Monday.
-
They were doing a feature on the basketball program, kind of similar to the "The Season" feature they used to do. It's not like they really thought Washington was newsworthy enough that they just had to follow all their practices.
-
Yeah, this is going to be a fun afternoon session. Since I'm in Missoula, I'm going to be stuck with the UW/Montana game forever even though I haven't followed the Grizzlies all season. It would be one thing if they were even trying to make a game out of it, but it's 16-2 already, and I don't see any signs of it turning around any time soon.
-
I think you've got a great shot to be honest. The Huskies are really vulnerable and Pacific is exactly the kind of team to pull the upset. 8 seeds upset 1 seeds about 3 or 4 times more often that 9 seeds do too.
-
And a little smaller good news too. Even though I went conservative in the money pool, I guess I actually picked Milwaukee on the TSM pool. That game was such a tossup, that I switched on it about 8 different times.
-
The thing is that for the most part, Pittsburgh had been playing really well against good teams. I thought they'd recognize that Pacific was a formidable foe, and they'd need their A game to win it, but apparently, they just figured "mid-major, can't be that good", and didn't get up untl the second half. Pacific's far too good to beat with that kind of mediocre effort. Now I just hope that Pacific beats Washington, so that everybody else misses out on those Sweet 16 points that I'll be missing. Oh, and even with losing 2 games already, I did get some good news this morning. In my pool for money, only 2 out of 15 people (including me) picked Illinois to win it all. As long as they make it, I should have a really good chance of winning no matter how may first round games I screw up.
-
I'm off to a terrible start at 2-4, and I've already lost one of my Sweet 16 teams in Pittsburgh. The CBS station here was really pissing me off. I went to a sports bar for lunch, and I was watching the Pitt/Pacific game there. They had about 8 TVs, and they were all on either Bama/Milwaukee or Pitt/Pacific, so I just drove home figuring that I could watch the end at home. But no, they had to show Niagara/Oklahoma all the way to the final whistle even though Oklahoma had a huge lead, and neither Oklahoma or Niagara is within 1500 miles of here. I just don't get it.
-
It's funny that you all want to see Oklahoma/Niagara and can't. I'm stuck with that when I'd really rather watch Pitt/Pacific or at least Alabama/UW Milwaukee. I've got Pitt in the Sweet 16, and I really don't want them to go down already. If they pull together in the second half, they've got the talent to come back. I'm really not worried about Oklahoma at all even though I've got them as an Elite 8 team. Just watching the game, you can see the talent disparity. Niagara's been hitting a lot of shots to stay in the game, but I think the Sooners will pull away in the second half. As for Alabama and Milwaukee, I thought that game was a toss-up, but I picked up Bama due to tourney experience. Looks like that was probably a mistake,

Maybe they could repackage him. I always thought that the whole Psychosis gimmick was retarded. If he just comes in as a high-flier than great, but that gear's goofy as fuck.

Agreed. Poker that's not for money isn't poker. My problem is that when I have money in my poker account, I usually play too long and get a little sloppy, but I won $1000 in a live tournament this week, so I don't really have any complaints in the world of poker right now.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. This is the last thread we want to get lost. Just thought I'd give it one bump before it fell off the first page.
