When's the last time a conference got three teams in the Final Four? I really think it could happen this year. Illinois and OSU are probably the most dangerous teams outside of the ACC and they're in the same bracket.
-
I love the selection committee. I wouldn't suck their dicks, but I could definitely see taking them out for dinner and a movie.
-
And whoever said Duke was going to get a free ride to the Final Four was sure right. There's no one else who's really even close. Oklahoma's probably the most dangerous squad there and they already lost to Duke earlier in the year.
-
LOL. Yup.

Carolina's bracket is gonna be tough to pick. I had Florida, Villanova, and New Mexico all as sleepers that should make the Sweet 16 so picking one out of that subregion should be tough.
-
Never mind. My mental clock's still on Pacific Time even though I'm in Montana now.

So, I'm in a chat room called TSM Finish Draft on AIM and there's nobody there. Am I doing this right? If someone wants me to invite me, my AIM name is iansafunnyname.

OK, not quite official, but I LOVE this draw. I was scared to death the Jackets would have to play Illinois early on.
-
It's official. Georgia Tech's going back to the Final Four. George Washington, Pittsburgh, Louisville, Gonzaga, and then they're in. Won't have to play anyone higher than a three seed.
-
It's not that they won because of one-sided officiating, it's just that when you've established that a game's going to be loose like that, you shouldn't allow it to be decided on a ticky-tack foul like that, especially when the offensive player did twice as much to deserve the foul as the defender. Sending Redick to the line is an automatic two points, where otherwise GT probably could have got a layup to tie it or take the lead. Don't get me wrong. Duke did enough that they deserved the win. It's just that that's a bad call to knock GT out of it.
-
Yeah, what happened was that Jack kinda grazed Redick's jersey with his hand right before Redick pushed Bynum as hard as he could and then threw him by his jersey. I really can't see anyone getting that call except for Redick.

Since this is the hoops thread people are paying attention to right now, I just want to say that Jarrett Jack is one courageous mother fucker. He's out there on an ankle that he can barely even walk on, and he just hit two huge shots and then took a charge. If it were up to me, I'd just sit him on the bench and save him for the NCAAs, but this is still a hell of a gutty performance.

I'm scared to death of Georgia Tech getting stuck with Illinois. At least in your scenario, they'd have a chance of getting into the Syracuse bracket. But the way Kentucky's playing, it looks like they're going to give Wake their one seed and virtually guarantee GT a spot in the Chicago bracket.

That's not allowed to happen. Teams in the same conference are not allowed to be bracketed to meet each other until the latest possible convienence (i.e. if there are four or less teams, the final four; if there are five through eight teams, the elite eight). The only way they'd be allowed to play in the third round (Sweet Sixteen) is if nine teams from the ACC get into the tournament, which is not very likely at all. Jason I don't think it's quite that restrictive. For instance, a conference that gets four teams might have a 2 seed and a 9 seed in the same bracket. They just do their best to make it unlikely that matchups between teams from the same conference occur.

I just wonder if anyone is actually surprised by this. I was about 98% sure that he used roids before this, and this is just a confirmation. When someone goes from hitting 70 HRs to not being able to bat .200 in two years, he's basically just making a public service announcement that says "I USED STEROIDS TO SET A RECORD AND NOW MY BODY'S GONE TO SHIT".

Summerslam 2002 > WM XIX > WM XX

Before the GT/UNC game gets forgotten, I just want to point out that Paul Hewitt is a badass. Here's his quote on Georgia Tech's win Color me amused too. I just hope to god Tech doesn't get put in Illinois's bracket, because I feel like they can beat pretty much anyone else in the country right now.

Georgia Tech is BACK! BJ Elder's still not doing shit, but Bynum and Schenscher are stepping up like crazy, and they're definitely going to finish off Carolina. If they beat Duke tomorrow, they deserve at least a five seed.

Actually, I'd have to agree with that completely. Ever since he started wearing dress shirts to try to get heel heat after he turned on HBK, his character's been really bland. The thug type that will do anything to get the better of his opponent (hit them with sledgehammers, get them run over by a car, etc.) was a lot stronger. At this point, his character's basically heel champion. He's doing a good job in the Batista feud, but after that's done, I think he needs to stay away from the title for along time, or go to Smackdown, or turn face, or something, because it just seems like this cocky heel that keeps the title gimmick has really run its course.

No, I was thinking more along the lines of saving Oliver Perez for the round where I drafted Clemens, and taking Jeter the round before. If you've got somebody Jeter-quality to offer for Clemens than go ahead and make me an offer.

Edited for accuracy. Think you can elaborate on that , or are you just going with a lame gimmick answer instead ? And Booker was buried, because the finish to his match at WM XIX made it clear Hunter was right, and established Booker as someone not to get behind. The only thing bad HHH did to Booker was wait so long to cover him after the pedigree. The feud was actually fine, as HHH made some really incendiary comments that were designed to get Booker over, and could have easily put a lot of heat on the feud. However, when he was responding, he never showed any emotion whatsoever, and then when he attacked Ric Flair in the locker room, I remember thinking that it might have been the worst acted skit I'd ever seen in the WWE. The fans still got behind Booker somewhat, but it was more like the heat Steiner got against HHH than anything approaching what Batista or Jericho or RVD or any really over face would have gotten. That's what ruined the feud, and that's what made the WWE decide for sure not to let Booker have any sort of run at the top. The thing is that the previous PPV, Booker T didn't even make the card, so it's not like there was much for HHH to "bury" anyway. What happened is that HHH cut some great heel promos to get Booker over temporarily, but Booker did so bad in his role that the WWE was forced to just abort the push, and let Booker wriggle his way back into the midcard. What really pisses me off, is when people say that the racial promos buried Booker. If anything, the #1 heel on the show saying that "your kind" don't deserve the title is going to launch your career forward. When Vince didn't want "Austin's kind" to have the title, did it bury him? How about when Rock thought that Foley wasn't worthy to be a champion. Yes, those two men both got the title, but that's because they used that angle to become incredibly over before they won the belt. Booker T had the hottest career jump starting angle in all of wrestling, and he completely blew it due to his own deficiencies.

If Holy Cross isn't getting an at-large bid, than why would anyone care? If anything, it would give them a better matchup or possibly improve their seed line.
-
Wow. 8 keepers? Maybe I should have rethought the Clemens pick.

Dude, it's a two-point game. Yeah I know but I want VT to win so badly. I wish they'd extend it! Do something! Embarass them! What's with the GT hate? He's projecting his resentment from when the board completely turned on him and OU onto me and Georgia Tech. It's true I may sound like a little bit of a homer sometimes, but I really believe they have the tools to make it to the Final Four, and that if not for an unfortunate injury, they could be competing with Wake and Duke for a one seed. They finally blew out a solid team today for the first time since BJ Elder came back when they played VT today, so I'm hoping they're pulling it all together at the right time. The litmus test will be against Carolina in the ACC semis, but with Carolina looking a little lackadaisical against Clemson, I think GT should be able to win it. Win that game tomorrow, and a run to the Final Four sounds a hell of a lot more realistic.
