I know it's already been mentioned about eight times, but how can the consensus midseason MVP not be starting in the All-Star game? I know a lot of it's name value, but how can anyone who's been following basketball at all this year have McGrady plugged in over Nash at the point out West?

If you really want to see how weak of a game that is, all you need is to do some quick math. (12-7) minus (7-1) equals (5-6) (11-8) minus (6-2) equals (5-6) Neither one of those teams had a winning record in non-conference games. They don't even deserve to go the NIT if they don't win their conference tournament.

Compare the ratings from Newlyweds to the ratings for The Ashlee Simpson Show. I bet you'll see a huge difference, and it won't be in Ashlee's favor. In fact, there were rumblings that she only got her show because the Simpson clan threatened to pull the plug on Newlyweds if they didn't. Just because Ashlee's had a couple of excruciatingly terrible performances lately to mke her a national joke doesn't make her more noticeable than her sister. At least when Jessica pulls a publicity stunt, she doesn't ridicule her own product. She may not be able to tell the difference between chicken and tuna, but when she's singing, you can tell that she knows exactly what she's doing, and is extremely talented. Ashlee's only real job is singing, and she's famous just for being bad at it.

Wow, I underestimated my own influence. Nobody responded to this topic for a day and a half. Then, after I said people should respond, it has over 20 replies in the span of a couple hours. Thank you TSMers for responding so quickly and giving me an inflated sense of self-importance. You fucking sheep. We started a thread of offensive racial jokes. I don't think that is following your lead. Why did God give Mexicans noses? So they have something to pick in the winter.

I like this too. That really is amusing when you think about it. Quoting yourself is fun, but it doesn't really accomplish much. I'm turning into a really crappy poster. I've made three (now four) posts in this thread, and none of them served any purpose whatsoever. I apologize.

OK, I don't really have anything to say about this, but it's a good article to bring up, and I think somebody else should say something about it, so I'm bumping it up to the top of the page.

You think alcohol doesn't make you drunk? Are you sure you're not drinking water instead?

She still looks hot... in the left picture. I don't know about the rhinoceros on the right though.

All right, let me modify that a little bit. With the pure talent, looking at the fact that great players don't stick around for college anymore, Illinois might not be the best. If they had to deal with a Georgia Tech team that still had Chris Bosh, a Syracuse team that still had Carmelo Anthony, or a North Carolina team that had LeBron James, they probably wouldn't even be the best in the country. However, they have been the most dominant relative to the landscape around them. They play so well together that it seems like when they're really trying, no one can even keep within single digits. They held 30 point leads on Gonzaga and Wake Forest, and they haven't come close to being defeated. Their absolute superiority over the rest of the landscape is something that hasn't been seen since the UNLV and Duke teams of the early '90s. (I could say it hasn't been seen in even longer if you want to talk about how Kentucky should have beaten Duke, but we still don't know what will happen in the tournament. Duke and UNLV did the same things in the regular season that Illinois is doing right now.) As for a game between this Illinois team and the '96 Kentucky squad though? I think it would have been a really close game. Yes, Walker, Mercer, and McCarty were better pure scorers than anyone Illinois has, but UI shoots the ball and plays defense so well that they definitely would have kept it close. I say if they play ten games, Kentucky wins maybe six or seven times.

It seems like these undefeated teams always pick up a loss late in the season, but I could really see Illinois being the exception to the rule. The thing is that all the games on their schedule where it looks like they might have a chance to lose, they play about ten times better ball and end up winning by double digits. If I were going to guess, I'd say they do pick up a loss, maybe in the semis of the Big Ten tournament. Iowa looks like theyll be about a 4 seed, and they matched up pretty well with Illinois earlier in the year. The fact that they took them to OT in Champlaign will be plenty motivation to make sure the Illini beat them the second time around, even at Iowa. However, after already getting by them twice, and being only a couple weeks away from the NCAAs, I could see Illinois finally letting up enough to let Iowa get a 12 or 15 point lead, and then not quite being able to make the comeback. I will say though that Illinois (to this point) looks like the best team in college basketball since Coach K's dominant Duke teams of the early 90s.

Illinois played damn good ball tonight. They were executing their offense great and they were making everything regardless of whether they were guarded or not. Michigan State didn't really have a chance.

I'll admit that I didn't believe in McNabb until two Sundays ago. However, after watching him play i that NFC Championship game, I'd have to say that he's undeniably one of the top five quarterbacks in the league.
-
Oh, I wasn't arguing that they'd get into the tournament. At least four teams will sneak in, and there will probably be five when it's all said and done. I was just saying the quality of the conference is a little down from years past, and that CUSA wasn't quite at the same level as the other power conferences this year.

Yeah, that was actually my favorite moment of the show. That little subtle smirk as he went up the ramp is exactly the kind of thing that's going to keep him over after he wins the title. I think he'll be a much better all-around champion than Benoit or Guerrero, and will be a breath of fresh air after Trips' reign. When Orton won the title, I just felt kind of intrigued with the idea, like this is an interesting idea, let's see where they go with it. With Batista's pending reign, I'm actually excited for it. He's probably my favorite wrestler on Raw right now given how woefully stale HBK and Jericho are.
-
So why again do they have to start this stupid tournament before they even decide if Batista's jumping? They're really putting no effort into this at all are they. They could have at least done some kind of skit with Long out recruiting Batista for now, and then announced their stupid tournament next week. Oh, and Cena's promo better be about how he actually won the Rumble, and he deserves the shot over Batista anyway. God, Smackdown just sucks cock right now.

DMX isn't very good. He screams way too much when he should be rapping. Ludacris and Nelly are also no-talent hacks that you'll want to stay away from. I'd definitely recommend Deltron 3030 for a really talented rapper that's got a little different sound than thte typical screaming sort of rap that you might be sick of. As far as other good rappers, Nas, Jay-Z, Andre Nickatina, Joe Budden, and yes 50 Cent are still making good stuff now. If you want to look into a little bit older stuff, look into Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Eminem. I'm including Eminem in the older group because his last couple albums aren't that great, but the Slim Shady LP is one of the best albums ever. -
Those five teams you mention that should get in out of Conference USA? They're a combined 0-10 in nonconference games against ranked teams. If Marquette hadn't beaten Wisconsin, the whole conference would be winless against ranked teams. Also, the bottom part of the conference is terrible, as teams like South Florida, St. Louis, East Carolina, Tulane, and Southern Miss are significantly worse than the bad teams by other power conferences. You could make an argument that Conference USA was a better conference in football this year than it is in basketball.

No one has Pitt ranked at 19. I have them ranked 21 and the coaches and media polls have them at 15 and 16 respectively. If you're wondering why I don't have them ranked higher (since I have them ranked lowest), it's because those two good wins were counteracted by losses to Bucknell and St. Johns. Connecticut's not even a Top 25 team this year, and Villanova's win over Kansas is more impressive than anything that Pittsburgh's done. If you ask me, Pittsburgh's only fourth in their own conference, and the Big East is quite a ways from being as good as the ACC.

The Spurs are 5 1/2 point favorites on the road, as apparently Seattle's not getting any respect now that they've lost a couple games. That seemed a little excesssive to me, so I'll have a gambling interest that should get me to watch the game tonight.

Yeah, I totally meant the Mavs. I don't know how I managed to do that. As for the comment that Nash wouldn't be as good with Shaq because they couldn't run, I can kind of see that, but the Mavs had just as much speed as the Suns and better shooters, and they weren't as good. I don't know what the difference is, but I'd guess it's that the Suns have Marion and Amare to pick up boards which Shaq could have done as well. If the Mavs had gotten the two of them, they certainly wouldn't be the same team the Suns are. They'd probably be more like a greatly upgraded version of the Heat. They might not even have as good of a record as the Suns do right now, but come playoff time, they'd be unstoppable. This Suns team's still not going to get by San Antonio.

Actually, the second top ten was just him quoting my top ten, but as for Louisville not being ranked higher, it's pretty simple. Conference USA's just down this year. Cincinnatti's really the only win that means anything as a feather in the cap for Louisville. With no big non-conference wins, that leaves only one big win all year for Louisville. Now compare that to the three loss teams ranked above the Cardinals. Oklahoma's beaten UConn, Texas, and OSU Washington's beaten Utah, Oklahoma, and Alabama Wake Forest's beaten Arizona, Texas, Maryland, North Carolina, and Cincinnatti Oklahoma State's beaten Syracuse and Texas Tech And that's not even getting into the loss to Houston. I think Louisville's right where they should be, but you could make a much better argument for moving them down to 17 or 18 than you could for moving them up to 9 or 10.

Not in the US. There's just a simple ten point scale at the vast majority of colleges. 90-100 A 80-90 B 70-80 C 60-70 D Below 60 F
