    Ashlee Simpson......

Whoever said that Ashlee Simpson makes better songs than her sister might as well just sell their eardrums on Ebay, because they're not being used. Jessica Simpson is probably the best pop singer in the last ten years, and Ashlee Simpson just crows to some crappy beats. "Sweetest Sin" is hundred times better than "Pieces of Me" or "La-La". Even if you've just heard the most popular stuff, "With You" is better than anything Ashlee's done or ever will do.

    A New College Hoops Thread.....

Big win for Maryland tonight. If they get in the tournament, they should definitely win a game or two. I think the Duke loss really just illustrates the gap between Illinois and the rest of the country right now. Duke was the last team other than them with any real claim to be #1, and they just lost at home to a mid-level squad in Maryland. There's really not even a clear-cut #2 right now, and if the polls were unbiased, Illinois could probably lose twice and still keep the top spot.

    A New College Hoops Thread.....

Duke would've beaten UConn 8 or 9 times out of ten. The circumstance of having both your good post players foul out doesn't exactly happen very often. Shit, GT probably would have beaten them if Elder had been healthy. When he was healthy earlier in the season, they blew UConn out, and we've all seen how the Jackets have fallen apart without him this year. UConn wasn't a fluke champion, but they were far from a powerhouse.
  4. I stopped watching Raw regularly when they botched the Orton push, although I have watched quite a bit of the show the last two or three weeks due to some good matches and the Batista/HHH storyline.

    Smoker?

That is freedom. It gives employers freedom to hire and fire employees in whatever manner is most effective, and leaves employees free to either agree to it or go work somewhere else. It's bullshit that the employers choose to do that, but from a philosophical standpoint, I can't justify the government stopping them.

    Joanie on Stern

Yeah, I just watched it. Chyna looks really terrible right now. Waltman's at least still in touch with reality, but Chyna's about as fucked up as she could possibly be right now, (and I don't just mean drunk). The funniest thing was the preview from next episode, where they said Chyna should hang out with Courtney Love. She said "Courtney Love's not stable right now" and everybody just burst out laughing.

    Does Batista have staying power?

Will Batista be one of the three top stars in the history of the business and single-handedly bring milions of new fans to Raw? Of course not. However, I don't see why he can't reach the level of Undertaker at his peak, and become a serious draw on his own, even when he doesn't have the title. The way I see it, Batista could have the most successful face title run in the WWE in years. He's like Brock with natural chemistry as a face instead of chemistry as a heel. As long as he's booked fairly well, I think the fans will really be into seeing him retain the title, rather than just wanting to see him beat HHH. When Benoit won the belt, he really didn't have anywhere to go after he won the title because his mic skills didn't allow the fans to get into a main even level feud. Eddie's campy humor seemed to fit a midcard level feud better than the main event, and his title run didn't work all that well either. However, Batista has the chemistry that he could work an interesting storyline with Orton, and he could also do interesting feuds with just about any of the main players from Smackdown. Seeing him as the screwed over champion powering his way through multiple challengers would be entertaining as well. He's not personally a long-term solution to the WWE problems, but he should definitely be a breath of fresh air, and I think that a title run by him would significantly raise the ratings, somewhere between 0.5 and 1.0 in the ratings.

Lennox Lewis Coming Out Of Retirement...

I'm sure Lennox would gladly fight Bernard Hopkins. I'm not talking about pound for pound bullshit. I'm talking about the guy who could beat the shit out of more people than any other motherfucker alive.

Lennox Lewis Coming Out Of Retirement...

I think if there was a "right amount of money" that Lennox Lewis was waiting for, $40 million would be it. Maybe he just didn't feel the need to tarnish his legacy by getting in the ring with the best boxer in the world two years after retiring.

    A New College Hoops Thread.....

I was trying to tell everyone that OU was for real. I did expect the Cowboys to put up a better fight, but the Sooners are good enough to go to the Elite 8 right now with a decent draw. Oh, and even though they look like shit right now, I still think Georgia Tech will win the ACC tourney and make the Final Four when BJ Elder comes back.

Match with Most Crowd Heat EVER

One that I didn't see mentioned on here is HHH/HBK from 2002. Actually, I have no idea what the heat was like for it in person, but the heat in the bar was unlike anything I've seen for a wrestling PPV. Everyone was cheering like they were actually at an arena.

    Does Batista have staying power?

I don't see any problem with a four or five month reign by Batista. Give him a rematch with Trips (only pissed off angry Trips instead of cocky smug Trips), maybe a quick feud with Big Show, (someone's going to come over from Smackdown right), and then a feud with a resentful, angry Randy Orton. Then, if they still want to go with Orton as a champ, they can give him a real heel run, and if not they can transition it to someone else in a multi-man match. Batista's not the next Austin or Rock, or "the guy" to turn around business, but there's no reason he can't main event Wrestlemania, and have a fun little run this spring/summer. He's fresh, and this the time to strike with a title run, kind of like December 2001 was for RVD.

    Bret Hart to TNA?

I don't really care about the substance of this thread at all, but I feel it's extremely necessary to point out that if Gangrel will be remembered for anything, it will be his cool fire entrance, not his stupid blood cup or puffy shirt.

    Basketball Star

That was quite possibly the most pointless thing I've ever seen in my life.
  15. I wish that just one year, they'd try to make a believable story for more than one person to win the Royal Rumble. Every year, it's hard for one person to get in, and it's a question whether they'll make it while the other main eventers are lucky to get a 30 second promo saying that they want to win.
  16. That was honestly one of the funniest things I've ever read. I especially liked that Lou Gehrig and Dr. Dre were both central enough to the story of Oedipus to warrant their own picture. And if that essay's passing, I'd hate to see what it takes to fail at that school.

    Super Bowl XXXIX discussion thread

It'll be a close game, but the Patriots will pull it out in the end. I kind of agree with a high-scoring game, but I say for once, Viniatieri doesn't decide it, and instead the Pats defense holds firm on a last-minute drive by Philly. New England 31 Philadelphia 27

    NFC Championship

I actually can't believe how well Donovan McNabb played today.

TERRIBLE throw by Vick there. It looks like he's trying to give the game away right now.

Nice catch by Crumpler, but he got laid the fuck out. TD Falcons! This is gonna be a hell of a game.

Lennox Lewis Coming Out Of Retirement...

Shit, that's awesome. I've been wanting to see that fight for a year and a half. I just hope that Lewis gets himself properly prepared first, so that he doesn't take a beating. The fight would be a lot more intriguing if we could get Lewis looking somewhat like he's in his prime.

    Seat Belts

I always wear them when I'm on the freeway or something, and I usually wear them in town when I'm in Washington, because their seat belt tickets are about five times as expensive as the ones in Montana. I really do think that the government has no right to mandate their use though. The government's supposed to protect inidividuals' freedom, not hold their hand on safety issues. As for airbags, I really agree that they're bullshit. They don't really help you at all, and they fuck up your car if they go off. When my airbags went off, they didn't even touch me, but they did break my windshield and ruin my upholstery.

Would a 30-Team Stanley Cup Tournament work?

The idea of having half the teams in Canada is retarded. Canadian teams have to make it to at least the second round of the playoffs just to keep from going broke, and that's in the successful markets that already have teams. Montreal and Toronto are the only Canadian teams that are even capable of making a profit, and if they put a team in Regina, they would lose money even with a $20 million salary cap.

Would a 30-Team Stanley Cup Tournament work?

I apologize for turning the thread in the political direction. I've had enough of those, this is more about the gross mismanagement of hockey, and why there won't be a Stanley Cup this year. However, before I let everything go, I just want to say that the current incarnation of the Republican part is not my idea of "conservative." I voted Libertarian, and I will continue to until we get a Republican candidate that has any idea whatsoever what fiscal responsibility is all about. The Democrats may be losing battles (the elections), but they keep winning the war by letting super-moderate Republicans come into office, while the Democratic candidates move more and more to the left every year. The "lesser of two evils" becomes worse that what the greater of two evils used to be within about an eight year span. Just to make sure this doesn't veer too far off-topic, Gary Bettman is a fuckshit. He put the NHL in this mess that they're in now by not getting a decent TV deal, and then when the players agree to every possible concession short of a salary cap, he tells them to fuck off, and cancels the season. If hockey dies in the United States, it will be because Gary Bettman killed it.

    Conference Championship Prediction Thread

Not be a dick, but that's the worst usage of the word "bold" that I have ever seen. I think "bode" is what you're looking for.
