I think this thread should have a rule that no one tries to feel bad for the people that die. What's the point of trivializing people's deaths in a whimsical pool if we're going to feel bad about it later.

Fuck the Cotton Bowl. I'm jacked for the Motor City Bowl. I've dissipated too much of my college bowl gambling stake on NBA and NFL games, and if Toledo doesn't pull through for me I'm screwed. Luckily, they're playing a Big East team within about 150 miles of home, so I should be OK, but I'm still going to be focused squarely on the TV tonight.

God, are you blind? I even showed you the quote for full split with the full in bold. I know the brand split happened in April, but the brands weren't fully split then, because HHH or Hogan or Undertaker or whoever the champ was went back and forth between shows. Thus, with the champ coming over, the show didn't need it's own big star to build around. The brand split happened in April and the full split happened in September. From September 2002 until he left this April, Brock Lesnar was the centerpiece of Smackdown.

I can't believe how many people actually agree with this bullshit. No matter what the university does, unless you're at BYU, people are going to drink. This is a natural and normal part of the college experience, as well as life in general. All these useless edicts do is pay lip service to the concerns of a couple nosy people and make it a pain in the ass for the 70% of the student body that wants to drink. To echo the sentiments of someone further up in the thread, what did happen to personal responsibility. If someone decides to drink, and goes overboard, and gets alcohol poisoning or something, that's their decision and their fault. It's not a green light for the university to go start suspending students who function perfectly well for getting caught with booze a couple times. This idea that someone who drinks themselves retarded is a "victim" is completely foreign to me. If they choose to fuck up their life, they deal with the consequences. If they really want someone to "protect them from themselves", they can go down to the police station, and I'm sure the cops will keep them from drinking there. I'm a sophomore at WSU, and I've never lived in a frat, but I do drink 1-3 times a week, and I don't see what the big deal is. I have a little fun, I get stupid occasionally, and then when the school week rolls back around, I get my work done, and maintain a 3.5. They also share this idea that it's good for their reputation to crack down on drinking, and they've always got campus cops swarming everywhere, but I really fail to see why anyon thinks that it's a solution to anything.

full split= separate world titles, no one goes back and forth The full split started when Brock took the WWE Title away from Bischoff, making it Smackdown exclusive.

Brock doesn't need to go to Raw right now. Raw has its own stars that work fine together. Brock was the cornerstone of the Smackdown brand from the start of the full split, and it fell apart as soon as he left. Bringing Brock back will make people feel like the Smackdown brand has returned to its previous level and gain back interest. If they want to trade Brock in a year or so, fine, but for once Smackdown needs to get the top guy, instead of sending the bigger star to Raw for someone who's already been jobbed out. And the idea behind Brock losing to UT is that it's supposed to be a major trigger for his character. It would be like when Austin lost clean to HHH in Three Stages Of Hell setting up the heel turn at Wrestlemania. If he just returns at the top, then it's ho-hum, he's the champion again. No one even cares that he was gone. It's a lot better if he loses a few steps, and has to work for the title for months so that he really cares about it. Realizing he's not the best anymore could bring back the monster that F-5s everyone in sight or feels he has to cheat before he ultimately just returns to training hard so that he can beat Undertaker clean.

Big 10 hoops hasn't been good in years. Illinois, and Michigan St. are the only real Top 25 teams. Sorry, but Iowa needs to prove it the whole season. I know that it's kind of off-topic, but I just can't let this go. Michigan State is the most overrated team in the country, and will be lucky to even make the tournament by the time it comes around. Meanwhile, Iowa is a legit Elite 8 team, and the only team in the Big Ten who has a real shot at knocking off Illinois. Basing how good a team is off their name value can lead to egregious errors.
-
That's kind of the whole point. Brock thinks he can come back at the same level, but after missing a whole year, he finds he's just not as good anymore, and loses to the Undertaker. Then, how he reacts to that would make him a lot more interesting than if he just returned at the top and acted like nothing had happened. It makes him "re-earn his stripes" somewhat in a storyline sense.

The thing about college hoops is it can look amateurish depending on what you watch. Most mid-major leagues, and even Conference USA and the Pac Ten can put out some shitty looking basketball games. However, if you watch ACC games, games between ranked teams, or any game from the NCAA Tournament after the first round, you will see some fantastic basketball that looks just as polished if not moreso than the pro game.

I think Brock could be really interesting if he came back to the product right now. The fact is that the Smackdown main event scene has so little direction that it's pretty much unwatchable right now. Brock has instant credibility with pretty much everyone, and I think people would be happy to see him come back. I'd have JBL drop the title to Taker as soon as possible, and then let Brock win the RR as a surprise entrant at #30. Then they can build a good storyline with shoot elements about how Taker's been in the business for twenty years, and he's not going to lose the title to some brat kid that thinks he can just come and go as he pleases. This would actually be an interesting matchup for Wrestlemania and with Brock not having a real match in a year, it would draw too. Then, they can job Brock at Mania, and spend the next few months focusing on how his character reacts to not having the same ability he had before. Also, I love this even more when I picture a RR with everything built towards an Orton win, only for Randy to get his RKO reversed into an F-5 right out of the ring.

In NCAA football, the play clock's 25 seconds, and they really have plenty of time to figure out what play they want to call and then run it. Also, one thing I didn't mention is the impact the games have. Just having a Top 25 where teams are constantly struggling to move up and get national respect makes games more interesting, and makes upsets feel more important. For instance, when the Dolphins beat the Patriots last week, it was a topic of conversation for a day or two, but it didn't really mean anything. The Pats are still 12-2, and will likely still get a first-round bye, whereas the win doesn't move the Dolphins forward much at all. However, if say Washington State has knocked off USC, it would not only completely derail the Trojans' title hopes, it would also make the whole season for WSU. They could say that they were the team that kept USC out of the championship, and have national attention as a giant killer. The win would still carry significance into the rematch last year, and even years later would be brought up by fans and alums. College basketball games are less meaningful than college football games, but are still much more interesting than NBA games. The NBA regular season is a huge grind that seems to go on forever and lead to nowhere. Having home advantage in a seven-game series is virtually meaningless, so the teams that know they'll make it to the playoffs have nothing to play for. Meanwhile, the vast majority of college hoops teams know they'll need an impressive resume to assure themselves spots as at-large teams, and even the teams that are assured a spot love the prestige of being ranked in the top ten, or being ranked number one. Also, winning your conference really means something in college sports, whereas being the "Atlantic Division champ" or "NFC North champion" doesn't really carry as much weight.

Watch Wake Forest play Georgia Tech and then watch the Pacers play the Pistons, and tell me which one looks like it's at a higher level. The NBA game might feature taller players who are slightly better at beating someone off the dribble, but it won't be anywhere near as entertaining. The college game will be up-tempo from start to finish, with fluid offenses that consistently work to get the ball to the open man, and the whole game will be poetry in motion. Meanwhile, the NBA game will feature a bunch of players who don't care, who won't play defense, and who are more worried about their PPG average than winning the basketball game. Once you get into the playoffs, the NBA game can be a little higher quality than it's college counterpart, but you can't convince me that anyone plays better basketball than the ACC from November to March. As for the NFL, it's the play clock. It's 45 goddamn seconds. I can hardly ever get into an NFL game because it's so slow-paced that a possession can last almost an entire quarter. I'll watch the Jets if they're playing a big game, but I probably watch ten college football games for every NFL game I watch. If I-A football had a playoff system, I might stop following the NFL altogether.

Yeah, that was kind of my theory too. I don't think I picked a single Big East team to win their bowl game in the pool.
-
When TO got hurt, all I could think of was that I was glad I put $10 on Atlanta to win the NFC Championship before it happened. Does that make me a bad person?
-
Well, I thought Georgia Tech would win by a decent margin, but I didn't think it would be anything like this. The GT offensive line has been absolutely tremendous. It seems like every play PJ Daniels is already 10 yards into the secondary before he even gets touched. This is a rout in every sense of the word.

ESPN may have added a lot of shit they didn't need. And really, the movies and poker pale in comparison to the way that they've totally fucked up SportsCenter. However, one thing you can't accuse them of is not playing enough college basketball and college football. I think they averaged about five or six games a week during college football season this year which is about twice as many as they did before. And it seems like you can find a college hoops game or two on the ESPNs just about everyday. Oh, and for the record, I watched 3, and I'll probably watch Tilt too. Just call me a pawn of the corporate media.

I would have never drafted Manning #1 to begin with. He was mediocre in college, and gave no reason to think that he'd be better in the NFL. Just because his brother's a great QB doesn't mean shit for him. If the Giants wanted a QB, they should have taken a project in the second round, taken Gallery in the first to help out their terrible offensive line, and then let Warner carry the team to the playoffs.
-
I know I've said it before, but I can't imagine how Georgia Tech could not win the national title this year. Their offense is just a thing of beauty, and their defense is solid too. I'm watching them play Michigan right now, and they really don't miss open shots ever. It's only halftime and they're already up 59-32, even with a little period where they got bored. In fact, they're so good at the fundamental shooting and passing, I really think that they could have won a gold medal at the Olympics if they had gone instead of the NBA guys. Maybe get Tim Duncan to replace Schenscher (since he's Australian,) and you're set. The only way they'd lose is if they didn't have enough practice time for Duncan to fit into the system, because I know this squad could beat Lithuania or Italy orArgentina or whoever the hell won it.
-
It really wouldn't have been that hard for them to reduce the voltage to a level that wouldn't put him in a coma. Oh, and I think "blackboy" is going to become a permanent addition to my vocabulary. From now on, I'm using that word whenever I can.

Utah's 10-14 thus far, so I'd have to classify them as not for real when looking at which teams will get the playoff berths. The Lakers will sneak in at the 8 spot, narrowly beating out Houston to make it in. Who knows, Kobe could hit some miracle shots, and they might even be able to knock off the Suns in 5. However, the fact remains that they are no longer a viable threat to win the conference or compete for a title. When you look at the people besides Kobe who are supposed to help out with the scoring, all you can do is laugh. They have the potential to win games here and there but they can't win a seven game series against any of the elite teams out west.

If he's bandwagon scouting, tell him to stay away from Dallas. I've been a fan of theirs since the Jason Kidd days, and I can tell you that they're going nowhere this year. Dampier's an overrated piece of shit that's not gonna do a damn thing come playoff time. All they had to do was trade Nowitzki and whoever the Lakers wanted for Shaq, and then pay Nash whatever he wanted to come back. Boom. Two or three rings, just like that. But no, we're building for the future so that when Josh Howard, Marquis Daniels, and Devin Harris are ready to be bonafide stars, Nowitzki will be ready to sign with Memphis or something.

Well, I stand by prediction on Kentucky/Lousiville, but that's not the easy to bet game of the day, or even the most interesting. Both of those honors would belong to Georgia Tech vs. Gonzaga. GT's screwed around a little bit against some crappy teams, but once they hit a team they'll actually be pumped to play against, watch out. They'll be bombing threes all night long. Also, I've seen Gonzaga in person and they're really not all that impressive. When they face a team with a good defense, they just start giving it to Turiaf who wildly runs into people in the hope of drawing a foul. If Schenscher just stands still, Turiaf won't be able to shoot over him, and I'm sure he'll run up plenty of charges. Also, the Zags' perimeter defense is somewhat vulnerable, and I'm sure that BJ Elder, Jarrett Jack, and Will Bynum will be more than able to exploit that. Georgia Tech is a legitimate contender (if not the favorite) to win the national title this year, and Gonzaga is a "lucky if they get to the Sweet 16" kind of team that got absolutely dismantled by Illinois, and was one late shot away from losing to Washington State. I say no contest. Jackets by 20.

I called the Lakers winning tonight. I'm really getting to like having an online sportsbook to bet with, as that picked me up another easy $20.
-
I've decided to appoint myself an expert predictor of all sports, and I decree that Louisville will beat Kentucky yet again. I'm sure I don't actually know anywhere near as much about the two teams as Alro would at this point, but Kentucky chokes in big games even when they have experience, and with this much youth, at this point in the season, there's no way the they beat the Cardinals.

Contract the Brewers. Selig should be able to get that deal done, and having 30 teams is more than are necessary anyway. Plus, that would balance the leagues 14 to 14, making it so that NL teams don't have a tougher road to the World Series every year.
