What's the point of only having 32 teams? Couldn't you just as easily keep adding teams until people stopped registering. I mean shit, if you let it go for a month, you might even get up to 119. Also, why don't you just use 2/3 record, and 1/3 opponent record to decide who goes where. That would be just like the RPI, and then it would be more on the actual head-to-head matchups, instead of who got how many picks.

I started a new dynasty with Washington State. My defense is awesome, but my offense can't do shit. I actually had to move up the passing sliders a little bit on the AI screen (human and computer) just to make things reasonable. Anyway, I'm playing on All-American with 6 minute quarters, and here's how it's going. Week 2: Beat New Mexico 34-9. Started screwing around at the end to even let them get their touchdown, and their quarterback was something like 4-27. Decided to turn it up to Heisman for the next game, as well as up the sliders to make passing easier for me and the computer. Week 3: Bad idea. Got killed by Colorado 31-6, even after switching it to All-American and then Varsity in the 4th quarter. Week 4: Back to All-American for the rest of the season. Luckily, I had my easiest game up against Idaho who was dead last in the country. Won it 41-0. Week 5: Lost to Arizona 20-14 in OT. I really should have had this game, but I couldn't punch it in when I had 2nd and Goal from the 1. Week 6: Bye Week 7: Beat #23 Oregon 10-6. As you can see, I'm pretty much all defense all the time, but it continues to work OK. Week 8: Lost to Stanford 19-14. This time it doesn't work too well. 19 points is more points than I can afford to give up. Week 9: Beat #22 Oregon State 6-3. This is where it gets downright ridiculous, as I have to bring all my skills to the table, to manage a field goal drive at the end of the game to get six points. I decided to up the passing sliders some more so there will be a little offense. Week 10: Beat #1 USC 16-13 in OT. This is my shining moment in the game so far. USC comes into Pullman ranked #1 in the country, and my defense holds them for most of the game. They get a field goal to take a 10-7 lead with 2:30 left, but I make a beautiful drive down the field at the end. My receiver drops a wide open touchdown that would have won it, so I have to settle for a field goal in regulation, but then I hold them to a field goal in overtime, and drive it in for the winning touchdown. Got a 1130 Greatest Games score for the victory. Week 11: Lost to UCLA 27-21. Well, my renewed Pac-10 title hopes, as well as my #22 media ranking both got shot down here. I actually had my offense working pretty well for a change, but there just wasn't time for a comeback. So far, I'm 5-4 (3-3), and will have to win out to have a chance of accomplishing any of my goals, but my job security's still a C+, so I guess I'm not doing that bad. The game seems really defense-oriented to me. To have even stats with the rest of the country, I'd probably have to play at least 10 minute quarters. I've got the #1 defense, and the #119 offense. It does seem like running the ball's not that bad though, as I routinely average about 4 yards a carry without changing the sliders at all.

A-Train's an excellent heel, and the crowd really enjoys ragging on him, so he's not usually in danger of getting X-Pac heat. I think if they gave him a decent gimmick as Bischoff's enforcer or something, he could easily become the #3 or #4 heel on Raw.

Well, I like the forums and all, but I do have a life, so I don't check them every three hours. I just noticed this thread about an hour ago, and so i responded to it. Have you been to college lately? It's really not all that hard. As for his content, I really don't usually pay that much attention to who post what. The only thing I really remembered him doing lately was defending HHH in the Vengeance match, in what seemed to me to be a perfectly reasonable and intelligent manner. I'm sure he annoyed people in different ways, but I'd be really surprised if bucking the Benoit trend wasn't a major component of his banning.
-
This is the kind of post that gets you banned around here. On-topic relevant post be damned. No sucky sucky for Benoit, no posting privileges for you.
-
I really think this banning thing is getting out of line. It's one thing if someone's obviously trolling, or even if they're just completely retarded, and continually post dumb ideas with bad grammar and spelling. But when you start banning people like Choken One because you disagree with them on a couple things and they annoy you, it just screams: "I like to show what a big powerful mod I am and I can ban anyone I want. Ha ha, I'm so clever." As long as someone typically contributes reasonable responses to the threads started, I don't see what the point is of banning them.

I actually don't think Billy Gunn's as bad as everyone likes to pretend he is. He was great in DX, and he was about Jericho-level entertaining as Mr. Ass. (He was actually my favorite wrestler for about six months.) Then he got hurt, when through a couple crappy gimmicks on the way back, and then was also very good with Chuck as the gay tag team. The two of them were even starting to work as faces until they were instantly dropped, and the only real push Billy's had since then was when he got put with Torrie. For all the talk about his failed pushes, I think Billy's done fine when he had a decent angle to work with.

Well, I guess the main event was my favorite match, since it actually went a decent amount of time. Anyway, watching Impact today was my first experience with TNA, and I have to say that I was kind of impressed. The six-sided ring, the match timer, and even the names across the top give it a totally different feel than the WWE. I might even go so far as to say that it looked more professional than the WWE. The show was far above a Velocity or Heat, and I could see how the PPV looked more intriguing than a Raw or Smackdown. I think the TV show could easily develop a following, but they need to do a couple things. They need to have a couple matches a night where the endings aren't telegraphed. As in, just put a couple upper-midcarders against each other and let them go at it. It kind of reminded me of WCW, in that even if you didn't follow the storylines, you could tell who was going to win every match. Also, upgrade the quality of the squashes a little bit. I get the general formula that they're introducing the main stars on Impact, so you'll pay to see them face each other on the PPV. But at least put the stars against lower-midcarders that can be seen to have a little bit of a chance against them. Then, once every two or three months, you can throw an upset in there to keep things fresh. They're walking a delicate line trying to interest people in the product with the TV show, while still keeping the PPVs more significant to the point that people will pay $10 a week to see them. However, I think if they upgrade the TV show just a little bit more, they could really increase the scope of their audience without threatening their PPV revenue. It really wouldn't take much to draw 0.6 or 0.7 on Fox Sports, and if they get good ratings, they might be able to get a prime time show, do monthly PPVs, and really compete with the WWE.

You're the second person to say this in the last week so this will be the second time I have to repeat myself: Don't insult Angle's skill by comparing him to Dynamite Kid. I fixed your post for you.
-
Angle's made both Hogan and Brock tap out clean. I really don't think the Undertaker would have a problem putting him over. Now, JBL is a totally different story. I think that in the best interest of the business, Taker should refuse to put him over. The guy's done nothing to earn his spot, and it would be downright ridiculous for him to win clean.
-
Well, I really think didn't think Brando should have gotten by Pacino, but I can't justify voting De Niro as the greatest actor of all time. Marlon Brando
-
OK, Kurt Angle is not Vince McMahon. There's no way he should want to lose the Royal Rumble, because he's scared of Eddie Guerrero of all people. Kurt Angle is one of two instantly credible heels in the WWE, and that scenario would make me sick. Also, I'd say that if Eddie and Angle main evented last year's Mania on the Smackdown side, and have a high-profile, quasi-main event match at Summerslam, they should not main event next year's Mania. It's just too repetititve. If you're going to have Angle act afraid of anyone, it should be Big Show, since he's the one that injured him, even if he was milking it a little storyline-wise. I say, let Angle run through programs with Eddie and Cena, and then maybe a quick title program with Taker over the next 6-8 months. All along, he can subtly avoid Big Show, trying to stay out of matches against him and the like. Then, a month or two before WM, let him finally stand up to Big Show, turning face, and making the Angle/Show match one of the main events for Wrestlemania. In the meantime, I'd make sure to get the title off of JBL, as he just screams lame duck champion. Either Taker should beat JBL within the next month or two, or Eddie should quickly and decisively win his feud with Angle at Summerslam, and then get the title off of JBL the next month.

I was thinking about what the real problem with Raw is right now, and it's not that there's too much HHH or that there's too much of Eugene. It's that outside of Evolution and Eugene, there is no one who's remotely interesting on the show. I mean look at everybody's characters on the show. If you were playing EWR, half the gimmicks would be listed as old-school face. Here's a character breakdown. Chris Benoit- Serious guy who's good at wrestling. Yeah, that's about it. Edge- Serious guy who's pretty good at wrestling. Oh, and he doesn't like heels. Shelton Benjamin- Serious black guy who's pretty good at wrestling. Oh, what a twist. Shawn Michaels- Serious christian guy who hates HHH. Chris Jericho- Funny guy who's not good at wrestling. Notice, just being a little different makes him somewhat interesting, but losing all his important matches help keeps from getting over. Kane- Scarred monster. Actually a very intriguing character with potential, but the fact that he hasn't won a PPV match in recent memory keeps him from gaining any ground. Matt Hardy- Used to be a jobber, but then his girlfriend got impregnated, and he became an angry serious guy who's good at wrestling. The angry might have gotten him over, but it's all wasted since he's headed to the injury list. Tyson Tomko- Serious guy who's really big. Oh, and he's Trish's bitch too. La Resistance- French Canadians. No really, that's the extent of their gimmick. Sad, huh. Rhyno- Serious american guy. Tajiri- Asian guy who spits mist. Val Venis- Jobber who used to be a porn star a long time ago. That's pretty much all the male active wrestlers I can think of who ever gets any TV time outside of Evolution and Eugene. The reason none of them are ever featured is because none of them have a decent character. They're all pretty much interchangeable outside of Jericho and Kane, who of course lose every match they're in. If they'd do something with the rest of the roster to give them characters someone might care about, then they might get somewhere, but basically the writers are so lazy that if they don't have a character already they just kind of let it go, and put them in random matches. They're thinking so far inside the box that they can't even try to work on giving the wrestlers new characters. They just take what they've already got, and find new and uninteresting ways for them to interact.
-
The reason Impact can do six matches in an hour is that none of them last longer than five of six minutes. The cage match will probably take longer than all the wrestling on Impact last week combined.
-
I actually like De Niro, but when you get right down to it; he's just a poor man's Al Pacino. He doesn't have the range or the depth, and ends up just using characteristics that Pacino does. Brando has been overrated for many a year, and just because he died doesn't mean he suddenly became the greatest of all time. I'm not saying that either one's not good; just that they still don't measure up to Hanks. As for Hanks, I went back and saw what happened. He got put against the eventual winner of the tournament (Pacino) in the sweet 16. That should have been the finals matchup, but it looks ilke the seeding went awry, and softball Kevin Spacey got to advance.
-
De Niro Pacino I missed a lot of this tournament, but how the fuck do we have faggot Kevin Spacey in the Final Four, or even De Niro and Brando, with Tom Hanks nowhere to be found. Either the voting or the bracketing has something seriously wrong with it.

HHH as a face would work great... if he takes three or four months off to make his movie, and makes everyone want to see him again. Also, the dynamic with Orton will work well, because Randy will be used to leading the group, and won't want to step down for HHH. However, if he just keeps building up more and more heel heat by destroying Eugene, ending Benoit's reign, etc., it will be tough to get the Orton/HHH match over as WM ME-caliber. Orton would have to get over Rocky-style as a face, and I just don't see it happening.

Well, I finally saw the movie today. I'm not much of a comics fan, and I thought the first one was pretty average, so I wasn't expecting too much. That being said, when I did see the movie I was blown away. The story was great, the action scenes were great, and every thing was packaged so tightly together that it didn't drag once. I don't usually give out **** ratings to action movies, but I think this time, I might have to make an exception. The mistake most commonly made with movies like this is they get so carried away with their ability to do cool action scenes that they think those are sufficient to make the movie interesting on their own, and neglect to make the story or characters interesting. I thought this really hurt the final LOTR movie (which just might be the most overrated movie ever), and in a movie like Highlander, it becomes just intolerable. However, Spiderman 2 stayed far away from this, as while the action scenes were awesome, they were all well within the context of extremely complex and interesting characters. Tobey Maguire did an awesome job, and you really started to feel for him when he couldn't get a paycheck at work or pay his rent. As for the complaints about the ending, killing Mary Jane off at this point would have been a terrible idea. First off, if you are going to kill her, the time to do it would be the next movie since Peter has (up to this point) been doing everything he could to protect her. He's finally letting her take the risk of being his girlfriend, so if she dies, it should be as a result of that decision. Also, they've already spent two movies with her being kept away from Peter by other men. They need to have a little bit of time in a happy relationship before she is killed by a villain. All in all, it was an excellent movie and I really don't have any complaints. It was light years ahead of the first one, and my expectations. Seeing how well the third one has been set up already, I think we might have a winning franchise on our hands. Of course, by the time they get to a fourth one, they'll screw everything up, but what can you do.
-
Well, on paper Raw looked like a good show, and Lita's promo SHOCKED me. (Why didn't they give her acting lessons three years ago.) However, I still couldn't get very into Raw tonight. I think it's because I saw Spiderman 2 today, and that did everything the WWE would like to do so much better than WWE can actually do it that the show just couldn't hold my interest. I mean how are you gonna get excited about a stiff clothesline, when we all know very well that you can just fall off a building and be fine. Spiderman spoiled wrestling for me until at least the JBL/Eddie cage match, and maybe even longer. Of course, it wouldn't really take much to spoil three segments of wanna-be porn stars licking their noses, and talking about having dogs, and whatever the second one did (changed the channel.) Raw Diva Search was the worst idea ever.

OK, I found a couple things in this thread interesting. There was so much smark bitching about Benoit looking bad last night that AndrewTS actually thought HHH won the title last night. The fact is Benoit made the man tap out, kicked out of a pedigree and PINNED HHH TO RETAIN THE TITLE. The other thing I thought was interesting is people saying HHH never showed any fear of Goldberg, and was smug and never threatened. Did you see Summerslam? He ran away from him, and tried to lock himself inside the chamber, before trying to quickly dispatch of him with the sledgehammer. I certainly wouldn't say that he showed no fear.

Here's the way I see the title history. The WCW Title was brought in by Booker T, and defended in the WWF where Rock held it leaving Survivor Series. After Survivor Series, Vince changed the name of the title to the World Heavyweight Championship. Rock lost this belt to Jericho, who lost it to HHH. At this point, since HHH also held the WWE Title, Flair decided to suspend the World Title, and give Hunter a new Undisputed Championship belt which would have the WWE lineage. This is the belt currently held by JBL. Meanwhile, when Brock left for Smackdown with the WWE Title and would not defend his title against HHH, Raw refused to recognize him as champion. At this point, Bischoff reactivated the old World Heavyweight Title, (previously the WCW Title). Since HHH was the last man to hold the title as well as Brock's mandatory defense, and Flair was the man who had physical possession of it after taking it from HHH, the two fought in the first match for the title after it was reactivated. While WWE gets confused from time to time as to which title lineage is which, the belt Benoit is holding is the same one that Jericho has held twice, and the same one that Booker T has held five times. Also, HHH is really only a seven-time champion, as his reign from WM X-8 to Backlash is basically the same as his reign in the fall where he lost to HBK. Unless of course, you want to count beating Jericho at WM as winning two titles, in which case his eight title wins would be: 1. Defeats Foley the night after Raw. Holds title until losing to Vince McMahon on Smackdown 2. Wins vacated title in six-pack challenge. Holds title until losing to Big Show at Survivor Series. 3. Wins title from Big Show on Raw. Holds title until losing to the Rock at Backlash. 4. Defeats Rock in Iron Man match. Holds title until Vince loses it in a six-man tag. 5. Defeats Jericho for WWE Title at WM. Holds title until losing to Hogan at Backlash. 6. Defeats Jericho for World Title at WM. 8 days after title win, belt is suspended for four months; HHH holds it until losing to HBK in Elimination Chamber. 7. Defeats HBK for World Title at Armageddon. Holds title until losing to Goldberg at Unforgiven. 8. Wins triple threat to regain title at Armageddon. Holds title until losing to Benoit at WM.

Well, I didn't actually see the PPV live, but I downloaded the main event, watched it without knowing who won, read results of the PPV, and then read this entire thread. Here's what I thought: First, the actual main event was excellent. They had quite the booking conundrum, trying to keep heat on a Benoit/HHH main event for Summerslam, trying not to kill Benoit's reign early, and still trying to deliver a solid finish. They did all that tonight. Neither Benoit nor HHH really looked weak, and the wrestling portion of the match actually made me more hungry to see what they could do if given 40 minutes to go to a clean finish. I'd say that it was about ***3/4, as there were portions that were very entertaining, and I was into the match from start to finish, but the wrestling portion of the match did feel kind of disjointed from the entertainment portion with Eugene. As for wildpegasus, I've got two words. Fucking ridiculous. A face isn't "buried" if he doesn't blow through every heel with clean victories. I don't want the WWE to revert to Goldberg-era WCW, and I certainly don't want it to revert to Hogan's squashes from the 80's. The fact is that HHH has one clean win on PPV in the last twelve months. Benoit has two clean wins over HHH in the last four months. HHH had to be protected a little bit tonight, or else he wouldn't be viable to main event the next PPV. Benoit got a ton of heat tonight for overcoming Evolution yet again, beating three men if not four to retain his title. And he did it while still leaving a strong opponent for Summerslam. With this victory tonight, I'd actually be willing to call Benoit's reign the most dominant face run since Austin back in 1998. I know you've been posting for years about Benoit getting held down, but he's not any more. Get over it. If I were going to complain about the PPV, I'd say that the worst problem Raw has is that they're still afraid to put over heels. Kane and Orton are two of the three credible main event heels on Raw. They've both done well in their roles, and tonight, they both lost to utterly heatless faces. Edge is as likely to draw boos as cheers, and Hardy's an afterthought even before heading off for surgery. Both those finishes are huge mistakes, and unless someone's turning soon, the lack of depth among the heels on Raw is really going to come back to hurt them.

OK, here's what I think, in proper match order: Jericho vs. Batista This should be a hot opener to get the crowd going, and with Y2J getting just a little bit of a push lately, I think he might get the win here. Winner: Chris Jericho by submission Victoria vs. Molly Well, this should fill time and give the illusion that there are matches on the card not involving Evolution. The only question is "Will Victoria show her ass?". Winner: Victoria by pinfall IC Title: Randy Orton vs. Edge I think Orton's title loss is being saved for Summerslam, as this doesn't quite seem big enough for him to lose it. Edge will probably win here via DQ, and then likely flip out afterwards, "taking out" Orton by brutalizing him with a steel chair and then leaving through the crowd. Winner: Edge by DQ Tag Team Titles: La Resistance vs. Eugene and Ric Flair As long as they're planning on keeping Eugene with Evolution for a while, which they probably will since the storyline's going so well, the comic potential of this pairing is too great to leave untapped. I say Eugene puts Grenier in the figure four and picks up the win. Winners: Eugene and Ric Flair by submission No DQ Match: Matt Hardy vs. Kane This will be a good change of pace before the main event, focusing on the other story on Raw. These two should put on some entertaining brawling, and given the injury, I'd be willing to bet that Matt Hardy takes a sick bump to end the feud. Winner: Kane by pinfall World Heavyweight Championship: Chris Benoit vs. Triple H The best match of the night is also the toughest to call. It seems a little early for HHH to win the title and kick Eugene to the curb, but at the same time, there's been so little focus on Benoit, I can't imagine that they'll keep him as the champ, and move on to another challenger. I say we get an overbooked finish, where the other members of Evolution cheat to the point that HHH has Benoit beat. Eugene comes in with a chair to help Benoit because he feels bad, only to have HHH talk him around so that he clocks Benoit instead. The ref, seeing the chairshot disqualifies HHH, costing him the title. Winner: Chris Benoit by disqualification.

...You have got to be shitting me. Angle: WOOO! Im an olympic gold medalist! I drink milk! Woo! Face it, there will never be a "Best of Kurt Angle Promos" tape that lasts longer than three seconds. Yeah, that might have been his character for his first six months in the WWE, but his promos are way better than that now. He can start off making fun of somebody, and then turn it around in a second and get deadly serious about how he's going to make them tap. He can do weird off-the-wall comedy better than anyone. (See the Austin skits during the invasion.) And he can still be a serious force and give you goosebumps about an upcoming match. If you want to say that Austin or Rock have more charisma than Kurt Angle, I can see that. When they're motivated, they do. Even Flair, I could agree with. But Hogan? No way. He just got a god push from Vince, and then the best angle in history when he turned heel. His promos are so goddamned stupid that they make me want to tear my hair out. And not just so I can be bald too, brother. Granted, Angle's not quite as exciting in the evil GM role, as when he was an active wrestler. The same thing happened to Austin when he was playing Bischoff's sidekick. But just for pure talent on the stick, Angle's certainly the best on the Smackdown side, and possibly the best in the WWE.
