    24 - Season 6

I'd expect the football game to get the best ratings, but fucking Cold Case got higher ratings than 24? That's bullshit! Those cookie cutter crime shows are on all day every day. The season premiere of 24 is a mother fucking event! Edit: Glad my 4,000th post was about something significant.

    24 - Season 6

Just watched the opening two hours. WOWOWOW was that awesome. Seriously, this looks like it's going to be way better than Season 5. I love what they're doing with Jack now where he gets himself up and does the most awesome thing ever one minute (killing a man with his teeth while handcuffed to a chair!?! Crazy!), and then just has nothing left a minute later. You can really see the toll everything's taken on him. Also liked the twist where Kumar looks like the innocent victim at first and turns out to be a terrorist. Anyway, great opening two hours. If I had one complaint, it would be the subplot with Wayne Palmer's sister. Completely stupid and unnecessary. Still though, that's a minor complaint. The awesome parts of the show were so awesome that I can live with one or two things being a little off.

Bored's College Football Pick 'Em - The Bowls

Ditto what everyone else in the thread has said. I've enjoyed the contest a ton (the whole setup with rankings and conferences is really neat), and I really hope you continue it.

    BCS National Championship Game Thread

I already gave the perfect playoff format earlier in the year. Top 6 conference champions are in regardless of conference. If Boise State's better than Wake this year, then the Deacons get bounced. Notre Dame and all other independents must be in the Top 8 to qualify. If they're in, they get in automatically. Otherwise, no shot. Then, the remaining spots are filled by at-larges. Only two teams can get in from one conference, at-larges can't get home games, and at-larges can't be on the same side of the bracket as their conference champion. Quarterfinal games are played in early December, semifinal games are played at BCS bowl sites, and the championship's played the same date as it is now. The top conference champion and at-large that don't make the 8-team playoff get to play the worst conference champion and at-large that lost in the first round of the playoffs in BCS games. This year, that format would have given us: (1) Ohio State vs. Oklahoma (4) Louisville vs. LSU (2) Florida vs. Boise State (3) USC vs. Michigan Not sure it would have been a lot better this year though. We still would have probably ended up with Ohio State vs. Florida, and Boise would have crashed down to earth hard having to play a quarterfinal game at the Swamp instead of getting their shining moment against Oklahoma. For all the talk about "a George Mason having a shot at the title" in basketball, does a George Mason ever win the title? No. It would be an improvement to have an eight-team playoff, and I hope they put it in at some point, but this year, I'm glad we had the old system.

It was posted a while ago. Something about how the Big Ten was worried that the money would be distributed too evenly between mid-majors and major conferences.

    The Office, Season 3

I didn't like where they added in that PMSing comment. It would have worked better if they just let Dwight have a tender, serious moment for a change.

    Fox Cancels "The O.C."

How could you forget JACK MOTHERFUCKING BAUER! Only 9 days until the new season! Anyway, I actually loved the first season of the OC. Managed to mix good comedy and realistic situations into the old "teen soap" formula. The second season was much, much worse, but I watched it out of habit anyway. I watched about two or three episodes of the third season and just gave up on it altogether. Terrible. I tried watching later, and Sandy was lecturing some guy for taking Ryan (a 26 year old playing a 20 year old) to a strip club. That was so bad that I decided I was just done forever. At this point, I'm glad the show got a mercy killing, as it had fallen off so far from where it started.

    OAO ECW Thread for 1/2/07

Yeah, I was flipping channels tonight and saw that RVD was getting a title shot at Lashley so I decided to watch even though I've pretty much given up on wrestling. Uh, yeah, that was awful. Both guys do a couple signature spots and then they do a fake injury angle on a clothesline? A friggin clothesline? Even when they first did it, I was about 95% sure it was fake, and then after watching the replay it wasn't even close. I don't even see how you could get hurt on that move. RVD jumped to the ground and so did Lashley. Weeeeeeak. I won't be watching that show again any time soon.

They'd probably lose, but only because they'd have to play in Norman. And it still wouldn't be 90% of the time. I bet Oklahoma would lose 90% of the time if they had to travel to Boise and play on the blue field in the cold though. The fact is (ignoring the site) Boise State would actually have a better chance in a regular season game than in a bowl game since they'd be extra motivated, treating it as one of their biggest games of the season, while to Oklahoma, it would take a backseat to conference play. With weeks to prepare on either side in a BCS game is about the only situation where you could get an even contest between Boise State and Oklahoma. If you think the Sooners weren't motivated last night to prove themselves against a Top Ten opponent in the Fiesta Bowl, you're crazy. As for the Orange Bowl, like some others here, I didn't bet it and I'm not watching it. I didn't see much of an edge to take either side given the spread, and I really do need a day off after the craziness that was the Fiesta Bowl last night. I was already starting to think that I was burned out on football a little bit yesterday, as after watching Georgia Tech play, I fell asleep during the Rose Bowl and was fairly bored through most of the first half in Glendale. Then, we had the craziest finish in college football history, and while that was a great experience, I'm really not feeling Louisville/Wake tonight. LSU's my biggest bet of the year, so I'll be into the Sugar Bowl, and I'll be into Florida/Ohio State because it's for the championship, but I'm just taking a break tonight.

The second best team in the ACC lost by 4 to the second best team from the Big East. I don't care who had the better ranking, Georgia Tech went 7-1 in the ACC during the regular season (the best record in the conference) and lost in the title game. They were the runner up. Virginia Tech would be 3rd and they lost to the 6th best team from the SEC in Georgia. Clemson was the 5th best team in the ACC and they lost to the 7th place SEC team in Kentucky. Also, the worst SEC bowl team would be Alabama and they lost to Oklahoma State. No one's trying to say the ACC's better than the SEC, the SEC is likely the best conference in the country top to bottom. However, the gap between them and the other conferences is much smaller than a lot of people would like to suggest. Saying that the 9th best SEC team beat the 2nd best SEC team is just ridiculous.

    Football Overtime

NFL overtime's gay. Ignoring the fairness issue (which is very important since half the starters don't get to play half of the time), it's anticlimactic and boring. The deciding play of the game (the final field goal) is almost a certainty in most situations. The game's pretty much decided but not quite when the other team moves into field goal range, and that doesn't exactly make for high drama. While I think the matching possessions rule would be an improvement (probably from the 40 in the NFL with better kickers), why not just end regular season games in ties, and let overtime games go for another 15 minutes? I think that would be a definite improvement over either system since it incorporates every element of football into a real-game situation. I know ties aren't practical so the best solution is to use matching possessions from the regular season and then the longer system in the playoffs, although as long as they used the long system for playoff games, I really wouldn't care how they ended the regular season games.

They'll pass Wisconsin and Oklahoma for sure, and Louisville and Michigan are very strong possibilities. They should pass USC too although they probably won't. LSU will probably stay ahead of them after they rape Notre Dame although if they win by less than 2 TDs, Boise should go ahead of them as well. They can't really go to #1, and #2's incredibly unlikely, but I could totally see them at #3.

Yeah, the hook and ladder had to be the best one just because the game was over. They were just ticking time off the clock and then BOOM Boise ties it just like that. The Statue of Liberty was close behind though. It actually took something pretty amazing to keep the finish from being anticlimatic after the play to tie it at the end of regulation.

If Florida wins, the AP should vote Boise State #1 just for the hell of it. They deserve a share of the title.

Good time to go for two. You'll be at a disadvantage in the 2nd OT having to go second, and the offenses are playing much better than the defenses.

Need one more conversion here. This might be the time for the run/pass option they like to talk about so much since Zabransky's got so much speed. It would really be a shame if Boise lost after that amazing play to send it to OT.

The best part is that just for a second, I got all deflated because the OU guys were right there and I thought they were going to tackle him short of the line and the game was over. Then BOOM lateral, 50 yard touchdown. I really think it might be the most memorable play I've ever seen.

This Week in College Football 1/1 - 1/7

This Georgia Tech/West Virginia game's been about the craziest game I've seen all year. Trick plays and scoring galore as it's 38-35 in the 3rd quarter. Happy to see the Jackets offense producing, even if the meltdown on defense has been terrible. By the way Leena, Taylor Bennett's played before when Reggie Ball was hurt and he never played anything like this before. I think the massive holes in West Virginia's secondary tend to make passing teams look good.

Denver CB Darrent Williams Shot & Killed

Wow, that's friggin crazy. Seems so weird to think that I was watching him play yesterday and now he's dead. The weirdest part is that like Corey Lidle, he'd probably be alive if only his team had won yesterday. That's some trippy, trippy shit.
