This Week in College Football 11/21 - 11/25

Louisville's got around a 1% chance of getting a BCS berth if Rutgers wins the conference and that will only happen if USC and Florida both lose next week, allowing the Cardinals to got #4 in the BCS and get an automatic berth. As for the title game, looks like it will take an outright win by UCLA or else Michigan's screwed. Florida would probably have to beat Arkansas by at least 40 to even have a chance now, and even then, they'd need USC to lose or look absolutely terrible in a win.

BTW, CanadianChris, your sig is awesome. It's funny how it only took a couple months for a whole new group of people to be completely unable to stand Dama.

I can't WAIT until Reggie Ball graduates. He played like he was a fucking freshman again today. What a terrible, terrible game. If he'd thrown every pass incomplete today, and gone down for no gain on every rushing attempt, Georgia Tech would have gotten the victory.

I changed my mind. Reggie Ball doesn't need to step it up at all. They just need to do exactly what they did that last drive and give it to Tashard Choice every single play. They tried one pass play last drive, Calvin Johnson was wide open in the end zone, and Ball missed him by five yards. The rest of the time, they pounded Choice, and the result was six points. The way the defense has been playing, I think a 5 point lead should be enough as long as they don't do anything stupid.

Stupid, stupid possession for Georgia Tech there. On 2nd and 18, they basically decide they're not going for the first down and run it up the middle for a gain of 1. OK, at least they're not going to turn it over. So what do they do on 3rd down then? Obviously run it again and punt right? No, they leave Ball to drop back with a full pass rush selling out against him, he fumbles and Georgia returns it for a TD. He better fucking pick it up in the fourth quarter.

Fuck! I was just getting set to watch the Jackets take out the Bulldogs in Clean Old Fashioned Hate, and I turn the set to CBS to see.... the Grizzlies' stupid fucking playoff game. I'm going to move before next college football season. The PPV package wouldn't even help me here because CBS has exclusive rights.

Louisville will almost certainly get a berth in the Orange Bowl representing the Big East. The next most likely team would be Rutgers if they beat West Virginia in their finale. You don't have to worry about Maryland beating Georgia Tech though. It's not going to happen.

WRONG. LSU played a much tougher schedule than Auburn facing Florida, Tennessee, and Arkansas all on the road, and having to take on Auburn on the road as well. Auburn meanwhile got LSU, Florida, and Arkansas all at home, and didn't even have to face Tennessee. Their next toughest game against Georgia was also at home and they lost that. Also, the Auburn/LSU game and Auburn/Florida games were both so close (coming down to the final play of the game) that I think home advantage would probably have been enough to sway them. If they'd been traveling to all the powerhouses like LSU had, they'd probably have four losses right now. Finally, head-to-head means nothing when you throw Arkansas into the mix since LSU beat Arkansas and Auburn lost to them.

They'd be ranked #6 or #7 with no shot at the title game and still needing to win against OSU and Nebraska to get into the Fiesta Bowl. In other words, nothing would change.

Bored's College Football Pick 'Em - Week 13

I'm pretty sure you got it since it's not mentioned in the differing picks, but you don't have me listed with a winner for Rice/SMU, and I just wanted to note that I did indeed take Rice in that contest.

The only full game I watched UCLA play was against Oregon State, and seeing as that's the best game they've played this year, I suppose it could bias me a little bit. I just think that USC has a lot better chance of getting knocked off after they feel like they've already won their big game to get into the national title game and they finally have to play away from the Coliseum.

This Week in College Football 11/21 - 11/25

My pick of the week this week is actually Georgia Tech. It's the first time I've made a big bet on them all year, so it's not like I'm just being biased; I just think UGA's getting way too much credit for the Auburn win and certainly should not be getting points against a Top 20 opponent.

I won't bet on USC this week even though I think they're going to cover because it's close enough that there's not huge value and I really want them to lose. Next week though, if the line's 7 or more, I'll definitely hop on UCLA.

NBC to turn Thank You for Not Smoking...

Yeah, this has failure written all over it. Honestly, while I liked the concept of the movie, even that wasn't done well at all, and in a sitcom format, it's going to be downright terrible. It will be filled with all of the little smirky jokes that aren't really jokes that killed Studio 60.

I've got new predictions for the rest of the season. USC beats Notre Dame 34-24 Saturday. Gets crowned the second best team in the country by everyone in the media, moves up to #2 in the BCS. Then, just as they're all sucking each other dicks...... BOOM, loss to UCLA to end the season. USC plays Notre Dame or West Virginia in the Rose Bowl, and Michigan goes to the BCS title game where they beat the Buckeyes to become national champions.

This Week in College Football 11/14 - 11/18

I'm not doing a logic chain or something. I'm just making the point that Oregon State's a very average team, and a two-point loss to them is in no way comparable to a close loss to #1, undefeated Ohio State in terms of quality.

This Week in College Football 11/14 - 11/18

Thoughts on the thread: 1. Kotz, you're losing your mind. If you really think that a 2-point loss to the #28 team in the country is better than a 3-point loss to the #1 team in the country just because the decisive play came two minutes later in the game, I don't know what to say to you. I really don't. Let me try one more time: USC LOST TO 7-4 OREGON STATE. THE SAME TEAM THAT LOST TO BOISE STATE 42-14. THE SAME TEAM THAT LOST TO UCLA 25-7. IT'S A VERY, VERY BAD LOSS FOR A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP CONTENDER. MICHIGAN LOST TO OHIO STATE, THE 12-0 CONSENSUS #1 TEAM IN THE COUNTRY ON THE ROAD. THAT'S NOT A BAD LOSS. THAT'S A SITUATION WHERE NO ONE IN THE COUNTRY WOULD BE LIKELY TO GET THE VICTORY. 2. LSU's a pretty solid team. They've just played a tough schedule, and in my eyes the toughest in the country. They played Florida, Tennessee, Auburn and now have to play Arkansas all on the road. Every one of those teams was ranked in the Top 10 at the time of the game, and the Tigers had to play in a hostile environment each time. For comparison's sake, USC has played zero teams on the road this year that were even ranked in the Top 25 at the time they played them. They did play Arkansas, but that's when McFadden was injured and they were running a different offense with a different QB. Arkansas was legitimately not a Top 25 team at the time USC played them. USC's toughest road game this year was actually against Oregon State, a team not even ranked in the Top 25, and surprise, surprise they lost. (Oops, that's point #1, not point #2, I think I'm getting off on a tangent.) 3. DH: it doesn't matter if all your points are unequivocally correct, no one will ever respect anything you say if you don't use at least reasonable punctuation. Your posts are incredibly hard to read and I find myself skipping over them even when I agree with the general point that your trying to make.

Sure. The Griz beat the Bobcats on Saturday to guarantee three home games in the playoffs. I watched the last three minutes while OSU/Michigan was at halftime, when they got a late stop to win the game. Basically, even though they've won 11 in a row and are ranked #2, everyone keeps complaining that they're not very good this year because they've had a couple close games and the offense looks bad. Josh Swogger was very good his first two years at Washington State including during the 10-2 Holiday Bowl season, but he's gone so far downhill now that he routinely one-hops 5 yard out routes, gets booed loudly at home, and got benched for a while two weeks ago before the backup got hurt. I think the backup might be healthy now, but Swogger's still getting most of the snaps. I'm really not too into the team now though. After spending two and a half years at a I-A school, it's hard to get pumped up about I-AA football. I'm also sick of living in Montana right now, and don't really feel a lot of civic pride or anything. The only real connection I have to the team is that I'm friends with one of the starting tackles who plays poker all the time.

    Mel Gibson... Now Kramer??!!

I watched the clip and I thought it was funny. You can say that Richards didn't use very good judgement and that his bit wasn't received well by the audience, but I really don't see how it makes him a racist. When someone's up on a stage doing stand-up, they're playing a character; they're not representing their actual views. Richards' character in that bit was angry racist comedian. If you think the character wasn't funny fine, but don't take it to represent his actual views.

I was never part of the anti-computer crowd. I actually think every change they've made to the BCS has made it worse. The system that got Nebraska to the title game was way better than the one we have now. The computers should be able to take margin of victory into account, and they should be worth just as much as the polls. This year though, I don't care what either one says. I just know that looking objectively at the two teams' resumes, Michigan is better than USC. Also, I think that if Michigan played USC's schedule, there's about a 90% chance they'd be undefeated right now, and if USC had played Michigan's schedule, there's a very good chance they'd have two losses right now.

Not necessarily. If I lose to #1 Miami in the WAC championship, I think you've got a great chance of getting in, as the distance between us is pretty small. I'd probably have to at least outperform my season average in correct picks to get in if I don't win.

If you win the Pac-8, you're in the Traditional Bowl. It only goes to a BCS at-large if the Pac-8 winner's playing in the BCS championship.

Notre Dame would be a legitimate champion if they beat Ohio State. However, it's extremely unlikely that ND would be able to compete if the two teams did play, and they really don't deserve to get the opportunity seeing how badly Michigan beat them.

Bored's College Football Pick 'Em - Week 12

Whew, glad to see I held on to my #2 ranking this week. I knew that a loss wouldn't hurt me much this week since I maintained a tie for second place in overall record. I was kinda worried though after seeing that I got less picks right than CanadianChris. Oh well, just one more good week and I'm in the championship. Interestingly enough in the year of the rematch, I might end up with three games against Spaceman Spiff and Miami after winning the regular season matchup, and needing a good performance in the conference championship to play Miami again in the BCS title game.
