This week sucks? What are you talking about? We have the GAME OF THE YEAR in the ACC Coastal division when #22 Georgia Tech goes on the road to face the #14 Virginia Tech Hokies. Plus, uh......Ohio State blowing out Iowa. That will be fun for a quarter or so.

Wow, after bothering to draft a backup TE, I still forgot to play him today during Tony Gonzalez's bye week. It only cost me one point though, as Jermaine Wiggins didn't do shit today anyway. Luckily, I still have a 15 point lead going into the Monday night game, so as long as Dunn doesn't outplay Vick too badly, I'll be fine.

The funniest part about this as that SMU already lost to a Sun Belt team this year in North Texas, 24-6. The teams from that conference are so schizophrenic that you just never know what they're going to do. (Yes, I used that prior fact to bet on Arkansas State last week and well..... I felt stupid.)
-
It's OK to not have a big win early in the season if you've been dominating the mid-level teams (like Missouri) or showed what you can do in a narrow high-profile loss (like Georgia Tech). My point was that not only was the best team Rutgers played shitty, but Rutgers almost lost to them as well. For the record, CFN's got Rutgers at #45, I think that's a lot better spot for them.

The reason I don't have Auburn higher is that they're offense looked really sketchy and vulnerable against LSU, (forget the 7 points, they had -2 yards of total offense in the first quarter), I don't think they would have beaten LSU on the road, and I don't think they would have beaten LSU if the ref had made the correct pass interfence call on 4th down. Florida beat a very good team on the road in Tennessee, and it seems like the offense is getting better and better as Meyer adjusts to using Tebow to run the spread in running situations. Also, that Tennessee win looks a little better now that we know that Cal's legit. I don't think the Gators will win at Auburn, but I do think they'll win the SEC. By the way, does anyone else think it's ridiculous that Rutgers is ranked in both polls? The best team they've beaten so far is North Carolina, and they only beat them by 6. That's the North Carolina team that just lost to Clemson by 45 and narrowly snuck by a I-AA team the week before. Putting Rutgers ahead of Georgia Tech, Missouri, and Michigan State is a total joke.

Not bad. I actually like LSU at #3; if I didn't feel obligated to keep them behind Auburn, I might have them there myself. The only thing far off enough to even argue with would be Texas. They didn't just lose, they lost by 17 at home. That kind of loss, to me means you're not a real contender for the national championship, especially when they haven't beaten a ranked team yet.

Colorado's not just bad; they're awful. One of the very worst major-conference teams in all of college football. It was easy for Georgia's defense to dominate because Colorado has no offense whatsoever. Colorado's offense got dominated by Arizona St. last week and we saw how good that defense was today. They also got dominated by Montana State's defense that gave up 45 to UC Davis two weeks later. I think Georgia should be punished for that win more than Oklahoma should be punished for their cheap loss to Oregon or Clemson should be punished for their OT loss to BC. Also, Georgia's beaten almost no one so far. Their best win is over a really sketchy South Carolina team. Don't get me wrong, if they beat Tennessee, they'll be skyrocketing back to the Top Ten in no time, but I can't justify putting them ahead of teams that have actually accomplished something.

Bah, I'm still pissed off I lost in the semis after dominating the league all year, but here are my OFFICIAL KEEPERS: Albert Pujols (Round 1) Alfonso Soriano (Round 2) Aaron Harang (Round 11) Bronson Arroyo (Round 16)

Did some new rankings. It got tough after the Top 10, but I ended up with a list I'm pretty happy with. (Previous week's ranking in parenthesis) 1. Ohio State 4-0 (1) 2. USC 3-0 (2) 3. Michigan 4-0 (3) 4. Florida 4-0 (4) 5. Auburn 4-0 (5) 6. LSU 3-1 (6) 7. Louisville 4-0 (7) 8. West Virginia (8) 9. Texas 3-1 (10) 10. Tennessee 3-1 (12) 11. Notre Dame 3-1 (15) 12. California 3-1 (NR) 13. Oregon 3-0 (11) 14. Virginia Tech 4-0 (14) 15. Clemson 3-1 (13) 16. Oklahoma 3-1 (17) 17. Georgia 4-0 (9) 18. Nebraska 3-1 (23) 19. TCU 3-0 (19) 20. Boise State 4-0 (16) 21. Florida State 3-1 (20) 22. Georgia Tech 3-1 (22) 23. Iowa 4-0 (21) 24. Missouri 4-0 (NR) 25. Michigan State 3-1 (25) Close: Texas Tech, Penn State, Miami I know theoretically, Michigan State should fall out of the rankings after folding like a house of cards against the Irish, but there's just no one more deserving to take their place.

Aw, I was sure I'd at least be in the "others receiving votes category" after three fairly decent wins. I guess I'm still getting punished for that opening loss where I was tied for last in correct picks.

This I-AA shit is out of control where I live. I can see the CBS affiliate pre-empting Alabama/Arkansas (which I wanted to see) for the Montana game since Missoula's the home of the Grizzlies and that game would obviously get better ratings. But then, the ABC affiliate decides to compete by showing Montana State play EWU instead of Ohio State/Penn State (which I really wanted to see). The thing is that all the fans that don't follow national teams to the point that they'd watch the MSU game are watching the UM game any way, so all it does is screw me over without helping their ratings at all. The MSU fanbase is pretty much non-existent in Missoula, and the Cats are terrible anyway as they've lost to a D-II school and 45-0 to another I-AA school in the last two weeks. I know no one really cares, but I'm pissed off and I had to vent somewhere. I suppose I'll be getting all the prime afternoon football games pre-empted all year long now.

I thought Ga. Tech looked really good tonight. Obviously, the Virginia offense didn't pose much of a challenge, but the UVA defense was pretty decent and the Jackets moved the ball when they needed to. With Miami being down, that Va. Tech game next week might end up deciding the Coastal division crown.

God, this show is so boring right now. It's been the same shit week in and week out for months. Cena and Edge have been feuding since January and it just won't end. We've had Edge sneak the title from Cena twice, we've had Cena get it back twice, we had a Big 4 PPV main event, and we even had a gimmick match blowoff, and they're still feuding. What could it possibly take to end this? And Vince has been feuding with HBK even longer. They had a gimmick match blowoff at Wrestlemania followed by a tag team blowoff at Summerslam, followed by a gimmick match blowoff at Unforgiven, and according to the Observer, they're going to continue feuding as well. I mean honestly, how do they expect the fans to care when they just continue doing the same shit week in and week out. I watched the opening segment this week, and as soon as I saw that they weren't resolving the Edge/Cena feud and were doing another meaningless six-man in the same static path they've been on for weeks, I just turned the show off. My question is do you ever remember anything like this happening before? Where they just stretch on feuds for months and months PPV after PPV, never resolving them no matter what? I honestly can't imagine why they would do this.

Has the Raw main event scene ever been this stale?

I think they will be carrying the Umaga Vs. Kane to Cyber Sunday. They're gonna stretch it out for another six weeks? Problay. They didn't blow the fued off on Unforgiven or the next Monday, so I expect them to continue the feud through Survivor Series where both men are in a ten man tag match and then just kinda forget about the feud, never blowing it off. Did you watch the TCU game? Because if you did I could easily see how you'd get that impression.

Long feuds are OK if a storyline actually develops in some sort of logical progression. What really pisses me off though is when the feud just can't be blown off no matter what. For instance, Cena beat Edge about five times in a row in February to "blow the feud off", but then Edge came right back and got a title shot at Backlash. He lost there and then came back and got a shot at Vengeance. He lost there, so he got another shot on Raw. Then, he finally won the title. Cena gets a rematch at Summerslam and loses. So they finally have a big blowoff gimmick match at Unforgiven where if Cena loses, he has to leave the show forever, he beats Edge in his gimmick match is his hometown, and...... the feud continues. It gets to the point where everything just seems meaningless because no matter who wins, they'll just have another match in a month. No other contenders get (or even ask for) a title shot and it's just Cena/Edge, Edge/Cena, Cena/Edge, Edge/Cena all the time. The other thing is, if you're going to have a long feud, you need something to keep the TV shows interesting. Like when Austin and Mankind were the faces in long title feuds, there would always have to be some big complicated machinations for them to get their "last" shot at the title, and wondering if they'd get it would be enough to keep the fans going until the PPV. Now it's just "well, my contract says I have a rematch clause, but we're not going to have the rematch for a month, so in the mean time, let's have 15 different six-man tag matches and insult wars. There's no reason to tune into Raw because nothing ever changes. -
It's looking tough with one day to go in my semifinal matchup against Vern's Landfall Jacobites. It's tied up at 6-6, but Vern's got the tiebreaker locked up (ERA). With my offensive category leads pretty solid, and most of Vern's pitching categories looking good, I either need a save out of Bob Howry today, a miracle relief win from Rincon, or else for Meche and Chris Young to get totally lit up today, allowing me to take over the lead in WHIP. Why couldn't I have pitched Timlin this week instead of stupid Corey Lidle?

Auburn doesn't get full credit because they won at home on a bad call (the 3rd down play that should have been PI). If that game's in Baton Rouge or if it's officiated properly, LSU wins. I mean, LSU still had they're chances, and they didn't make enough plays which is why I have to give Auburn the nod over them, but I still can't give Auburn full credit for the victory. Florida meanwhile, got the job done on the road in a hostile environment without any real bad calls, so I'm leaving them ahead of Auburn. Note the leaving part as I had them ahead of Auburn going into the week, and so no reason to change. If Auburn had been there, there's a good chance they would have stayed ahead as well. Also, the Gators showed some semblance of an offense, and no matter how good LSU's defense is, Auburn's O was pretty bad to start the game. West Virginia drops because so many teams played well around them. I think a 31-7 victory over Miami proves that the Cardinals are legit now, and should give them a boost over a WVU team who's done nothing this year. Also, most of those early scores against Maryland were due to Maryland mistakes, and even though it was pretty much decided, I didn't like some of the weaknesses I saw in WVU's defense late. After such a dominating performance on both sides of the ball by Louisville, I can't justify keeping the Cardinals behind a team who's lacking on one side of the ball. Boise State drops because only winning by 7 against Wyoming (who's not that good, they'll probably be 7-4 in the Mtn. West, and would likely be 4-7 in a major conference) makes me think they can't play that well off of the blue turf. I really expected them to win that by 3 TDs or more, and the fact that Wyoming had a chance to win late is making me second-guess them somewhat. If you're going to rank a mid-major high, you have to be willing to drop them without a loss since they won't be playing the big-time competition week in and week out.

Got my new Top 25 done. Quite a few changes this week. (Last week's ranking in parenthesis.) 1. Ohio State 3-0 (1) 2. USC 2-0 (3) 3. Michigan 3-0 (8) 4. Florida 3-0 (6) 5. Auburn 3-0 (7) 6. LSU 2-1 (2) 7. Louisville 3-0 (11) 8. West Virginia (5) 9. Georgia 3-0 (16) 10. Texas 2-1 (13) 11. Oregon 3-0 (14) 12. Tennessee 2-1 (9) 13. Clemson 2-1 (24) 14. Virginia Tech 3-0 (18) 15. Notre Dame 2-1 (4) 16. Boise State 3-0 (12) 17. Oklahoma 2-1 (20) 18. Boston College 3-0 (NR) 19. TCU 3-0 (NR) 20. Florida State 2-1 (10) 21. Iowa 3-0 (NR) 22. Georgia Tech 2-1 (19) 23. Wow, 8-4? That's got to be a win that hurts me more than it helps. Looks like Leena's cheating whore strategy worked though. After all the talk about an ugly win, she ended up winning the highest scoring game of the week.

Funny, they didn't even mention anything controversial on the highlights. Just OMG Dennis Dixon's the next Vince Young! Instead of OU/OU, Miami/Louisville or anything interesting, my ABC game of the day was Montana State/UC Davis. If that wasn't dull enough to begin with, UC Davis won 41-0 making it completely worthless. Was really hoping they'd at least switch to bonus coverage on ESPN2 or ESPNEWS at the end, but no dice.

All right. Guess the dominant comment might have been a little premature. Still a close game going into the second half. And I have to agree that the announce team's pretty bad. I hate when they get these old men that can't even get out a sentence anymore without their dentures slipping.
-
I knew Iowa State was for real. They're dominating against Iowa right now. Once they started running a balanced offense, Iowa basically became unable to stop them.

Basically, all the arguments I see in this thread are "it's bad for girls, so it must be bad for guys too" or "who says teen girls can't be as horny as guys". While those may be good arguments for why 14 year old girls should be able to consent to sex, they are not arguments for why 14 year old guys should not be able to consent. I wouldn't mind at the very least a drastic reduction in penalties for men that have sex with 14-17 year old girls, but that really is not the focus here. The fact is that if a 14 year old guy has sex with a hot teacher, he's gonna remember that as one of the highlights of his life when he's 70 years old, and there's no way he will be harmed in any way whatsoever.

Jesus Dama. Be logical. The reason Oklahoma/Oregon isn't getting much attention is the same reason that Texas Tech/TCU isn't getting much attention. It's because neither team's ranked in the Top Ten. LSU/Auburn is between two top ten teams and will likely decide the SEC West. Miami/Louisville might be the deciding factor, not only for Louisville's hopes of getting to the national title game, but for West Virginia's as well. Michigan Notre Dame is between two Top 12 teams who both have a fair chance of winning the title. USC/Nebraska is between the second best team in the country and a legitimate sleeper who no one really knows what to make of. OU/Oregon is between the 2nd best team in the Pac-Ten and the third-best team in the Big XII, neither one of which is in the Top Ten. It's really not that hard to figure out why it gets less attention.
