Best advice of the thread so far. Seriously, your real problem here is your inhibitions and this is a solution for just that problem. As long as you keep it under control and don't go crazy, you should be fine. It's not like you need to be trashed to interact, but having a few drinks makes it aout 100x less awkward when you're meeting new people. Also, for people in their twenties, (at least where I'm from), the primary place to meet, interact, socialize with the opposite sex is the bar. You're just making things harder for yourself trying to buck the system.

There are other ways to make the game harder you know. Even if you're playing on Heisman, you can always go to the AI settings, and make things harder that way.

You know, looking at Ohio State's schedule, you could call it a one game season. Texas is the toughest road team they face all year, and they face them in September when they'll still be breaking in those 9 new starters on defense. If OSU beats the Longhorns, there's a pretty good chance they'll roll to the national title game. Penn State's at home, and they'll be breaking in a ton of new talent early themselves, Iowa's never any good in September, Michigan State will already be into their yearly collapse by game #7, and Michigan has to go to the Horseshoe in the last game of the season when OSU's young talent will all be playing like veterans. I'm not saying that none of those teams can beat OSU. I'm just saying that if Texas can't do it with all those favorable conditions in September, then I don't think those teams will either. -
How long are your quarters set? I play 6 minute quarters, and I've never approached a game that high scoring. If it keeps up though, you might want to think about bringing down the offensive AI settings for both human and CPU players. Because "I lost 77-65" and "makes stuff realistic" don't really fit together. Oh, BTW just checked out your MySpace after the comment, and I want to say thank you for reminding me about Garbage. I used to love their stuff, and I haven't listened to it in forever.

Kind of a weak show. If they're going to take the main event to a double DQ, they really need to have at least one extreme rules match on the undercard. They were counting on RVD's return to make the show, but when he botches his big move on his "surprise" return, it really hurts it.

Well, I guess I'm starting to channel the real Georgia Tech as I followed up my loss to Duke with.... a road win over #11 Miami! I played a good game and built an early lead, and actually managed to hold on with defense in the fourth quarter winning 20-14. It was my first win over a ranked team on Heisman (and an A+ team at that), so I was pretty excited. My chances of winning the conference are still a little shaky, as Virginia Tech has a half-game lead and the tiebreaker, but I got a contract goal just for beating Miami, and with VT's remaining schedule, (2 B+ teams, a B and an A+ in Miami), I certainly wouldn't write off my Orange Bowl chances.
-
Yeah, when they add the goals of beating rivals, they don't pay any attention at all to how good they are. The thing about them though is that you only have to get one or two of the goals, though I think what they're really saying is that if you beat Florida, the season will be considered somewhat of a success no matter how badly you fuck up the rest of the schedule. And yeah, you really do have to run a lot of nickel and dime in this kind of game. Defending the run is always a lot easier than defending the pass, so you need to make some adjustents. In general, unless I really think they're running the ball for some reason, I always call dime when they have 4 receivers, and I always call either nickel or dime when they have 3. If it's third and long or something, I'll usually call dime even against a two receiver set. Back on my dynasty, I just blew the Duke game, going for it and 4th and 1 three times in the first quarter and missing every time, leading to an early Duke momentum advantage, and a big first half lead that I never recovered from, ultimately losing 41-27. The good news is that Miami lost to Florida State, so if I could somehow beat them this week (not exactly an easy task, esp. on the road), I'd still be in line to win the coastal division.
-
What kind of coverages are you calling? If you play a lot of nickel and dime, and switch up the coverages between zone, man, and the LB blitzes (never bring the corners or safeties), you should be in pretty decent shape on AA. If the other team has the momentum meter filled up all the way though, they'll definitely get some passes on you. Anyway, I've been having a lot more fun now that I'm playing some competitive, winnable games on Heisman. Since losing to Virginia Tech, I've won three in a row, most recently beating North Carolina 42-37 and BC 35-31. I'm 4-2 (2-1) so if I beat Duke, I'll be playing Miami in two weeks with first place in the division on the line. Duke's a B+ in year two though and I have to go on the road, so I'm certainly not taking the win for granted.

Sabu's over with the WWE fans and the ECW fans. The way I see it, it will probably be booked as a face vs. face match up until the finish where . I don't have any basis for the spoiler other than common sense, but I really can't imagine any other finish. No matter what happens though, this will easily blow Raw out of the water. I still watch Raw out of boredom (although with fast-forwarding, it probably only takes a little over an hour, but ECW's the only wrestling show I actually look forward to before it happens.

Since no one mentioned it, I just want to say that the Samoan Spike looks terrible as an out of nowhere finisher. I honestly didn't know that he even hit it until I heard JR start spazzing out.

Oh god, I didn't even think about this. That's exactly what's going to happen. That way they can continue Edge/Cena and the DX/McMahons crap for another month before they build to a street fight between Edge and Cena at Unforgiven and a 3 vs. 2 handicap match with DX against Vince, Shane, and Umaga at Unforgiven.

Maybe you need a different type of pet than. A buddy of mine has 2 rats as pets so perhaps you should try that out. What about work? You must talk to a few people there or are you too busy working? That's great reasoning. Hypothetical pet store trip: Marvin: I'd like two pet rats please. Clerk: Oh, you like rats huh? Marvin: Not really. Clerk: Well, why are you getting them. Marvin: Well, this guy how posts on this internet wrestling forum with me has a friend who has some. Clerk: What does that have to do with you? Marvin: Uhh.........

Not to shoot down this complaint, because bullshit does go down in this game, usually in the form of timely fumbles or INT's for the computer, but you made some shittastic defensive calls there. Never play man when they have to go deep like that. what you actually did was take away all your help defenders when the ball is in the air because they were covering another guy. Thats why you lost. I still have only lost one game, but this one game came down to the final drive with 12 seconds left and I went 98 yards to win it. The bullshit fumbling of the kickoff ball OUT of the inzone to the two where i had to dive on it pissed me off. The problem is that if you play zone, you have corners and linebackers that stay 12 yards from the line, even when the ball's obviously going deep. Even the prevent has a bunch of guys that stay out of the play because they stay too close. By playing man cover 3, I've still got the three guys deep that would be helping out in a zone, and since the other defenders are all following receivers, then they're back deep too. If I had it to do again, I'd call a blitz since if I get to the QB quick, he'll only be able to throw it 20 yards or so, but as far as real football strategy, it's the best play available.

It would help if the top heavyweights fought on some sort of semi-regular basis. When you're thinking that there might be a big fight a year down the line, and there might not even be one then, it's pretty hard to get interested. And no, Klitschko or Ruiz versus a jobber doesn't count as a big fight.

Oh my god this game's bullshit. I was playing East Carolina on Heisman, and I was down 23-12 in the fourth quarter. I got a TD to cut it to 23-18 with about 3:30 to go, and then an interception to get the ball back with 2:00 left. I make a brilliant drive down the field with no timeouts and finally I have 4th and 3 from the 12 with 0:23 left. I run a deep out to Calvin Johnson, and he catches the TD to give me the lead with 0:18 remaining. After I get the conversion, it's 26-23. Game over right? No, East Carolina gets the ball back and starts their drive with 0:15 left after the kickoff. (Not much of a return, they only got to the 20.) I go into quarters, and play Cover 3 man, so everyone on the field is covered and I've got three safeties back. 42 yard completion down the left side. I notice it's their star who has 200 yards receiving on the game, so the next play, I call the Dime 3-2-6, and manually take a linebacker who's supposed to be blitzing and help out with the star receiver while still having man coverage on everyone else and two safeties deep. They throw it up for some jobber receiver in the middle of the end zone who makes the catch in triple coverage and gives East Carolina the victory. I was so pissed off, I might have broke my PS2 if not for the futile kick return play afterward which of course went nowhere. I really hate that catchup bullshit where all of a sudden the CPU offense becomes fucking invincible just because they're down one possession late in the game. Whoever thought that was a good idea needs to be shot.

Well, Dama, you could say the same thing about OU and their lack of a passing game. Peterson's going to be getting as many carries as he can handle this year. Also, that lack of defense is likely to handicap Quinn because you know if ND loses two or three times, he's not going to sniff the Heisman no matter how good his numbers are. Finally, Dama, who do you think USC's going to lose to this year in the regular season. Just give me one reasonable loss. They don't have any real road tests, and by the time the Notre Dame game comes around all those young guys are going to be fully adjusted to starting at a big program. Looking at their schedule, I just can't find a loss there. -
College Football Preseason Top 25

Good call. I have a really hard time seeing Miami or West Virginia winning at Papa John's. Really, Louisville couldn't have a better schedule to get to the national title game. I mean sure, the KSU game's a little inconvenient, but it's not like there even in the Top 50. When random jobber the week after a big game is your "big road test" of the year, you know you've got pretty smooth sailing. Oh, and WTF's up with LSU getting no first-place votes? They're going to rock fools this year. I'm really not getting the Auburn love as the team to beat in the SEC West. LSU has more talent and experience on both sides of the ball. I actually see LSU going 12-0 in the regular season and then blowing their chance to win it all in the SEC title game. -
You're forgetting that 90% of John Cena's fans are 15 and under. An R rating would have killed this movie's revenue.
-
If it's really dead, can we at least move it to classics?
-
That would be awesome if they were live at Hammerstein every week or changed it up between there and Philly. If they do that, they should probably extend the show to 90 minutes though, as a two hour show with one hour of dark matches will be a tough sell to fill up the venue week in and week out.

That's why you're supposed to increase the difficulty too fast, ruin your program, and get fired. I've never gotten my contract renewed on Heisman in an NCAA football game. I guess I'm just a masochist. The first time I blow out a good team, I panic. I did hang out to win a national title with WSU on All-American once a couple years ago, but I picked up a loss early in the season, it took OT to beat USC and then I won something like 13-7 in the national title game. Oh, and redshirting's a pretty standard practice. It's basically so that if you have a young player with potential who's not good enough to play this year, you can save a year of eligibility down the road.

Finally finished my first season on my Dynasty. Some highlights: -Oklahoma State (yes Oklahoma State) went 13-0 and finished the regular season undefeated before losing 62-14 to West Virginia in the championship game. -Cal went 2-9 with their only wins being over Portland State and Stanford. -Rhett Bomar set a new NCAA record for passing efficiency. -In true GT fashion, I choked away a promising season, losing my last 3 games to finish 7-6. (Apparently, I'm not quite good enough to play significant portions of the game on Heisman yet.) -With only 90 recruiting points, I managed to convince Calvin Johnson to come back for his senior season. Thank god, as he was pretty much my whole team, ending up with over half my receiving yards. Too tired to do all the offseason stuff right now, but felt like posting anyway. The Bomar thing in particular definitely made me chuckle.

We most certainly do not. Booker T was terrible then. I guess he's made some mildly entertaining character improvements on Smackdown (I don't watch the show), but at the time, he was just a generic, boring, midcard face. Having Booker go over HHH that Mania would be like having Carlito go over Edge at SS this year if you made Carlito 12 years older, and if his ring skills had completely gone to shit due to age. However, I do agree that the finisher thing was bullshit. I honestly thought it was about 30 seconds before he made the cover when I watched the show live, and I really expected Booker to kick out. If nothing else, it breaks kayfabe when someone jumps up and slams someone's face into the ground, and then can't even be bothered to roll over for 30 seconds to win the match.

I agree that this is probably good news for OU in the long run. It will hurt them the first few weeks this season while Bradford or whoever the QB of the future gets comfortable, and it will actually probably cause them to lose to Texas. However, in the long run, it's got to be good for the program. I mean can you ever see Rhett Bomar leading a team to a national title? A mediocre QB with a coach's support can hang over a program like that for years and keep them from ever achieving greatness. (See Simms, Chris.) I'd say that this move might end up winning OU a national title in either 2007 or 2008. -
I played a disgusting game against Duke last night. I just totally choked it away. Anyway, I was playing on Heisman for the first three quarters, and Duke's running game was just dominant for some reason. They had like 230 yards on the ground at the end of the third and a 21-9 lead with the ball at my 15. I held them to a field goal, and drove downfield for a TD to cut it to 24-15 (after missing the conversion). With 2:00 left and one timeout remaining, I scored another TD to make it 24-22, but I missed the onside kick and Duke got the ball back. My defense forced a quick three and out, I got the ball back with 0:55, and after an efficient drive, I got down to the Duke 5 with 0:26 left. Well, I was scared to kick the FG this early, dreaming of a miracle comeback by the CPU, but with no timeouts left, I also didn't want to have to set up a FG after a running play, so for some reason I called a passing play. I was scared to throw to my covered receivers for fear of an INT and ended up getting sacked back at the 21. Somehow, I didn't get the spike off, so I grabbed the first passing play I could that had go routes to the end zone, thinking I still had time for a quick route, and I'd either get a TD or be able to set up a FG after an incompletion. Well, unfortunately, it was my tight ends running to the end zone, not my receivers, so when I threw it up a pass that I thought would go to the end zone, they were still at about the 4. My tight end ends up catching the ball, and gets tackled at the 2 where time runs out and Duke celebrates their upset victory. Absolutely sickening. I was actually about to get back into the Top 25 after that game (ranked 28 nationally), but I guess that's a contract goal I'm just going to miss this year.
