Why not? They only have one loss and they beat Miami at home, and Boston College on the road. And while the win over Maryland this week may not have been earth shattering, it's still better than any win Miami has this year outside of Colorado. Miami and FSU were in a virtual dead heat going in, so just a little thing like beating the Terps while Miami struggled against a slightly worse team in Carolina was enough to tip the scales. The next one loss team is LSU, and in their "big wins", they turned it over five times against Florida, and only survived Auburn at home due to four missed field goals. Of course, there's always UCLA, but until they beat someone I consider a Top 30 team, I'm not putting them in the Top 5. Really, I don't get why the Noles don't get more love elsewhere, as they look like the most solid of the one loss teams. OK, actually, I do understand why. It's because they lost to Virginia in October instead of September, and it's still fresh in everyone's minds. Still though, if you weigh the whole season, I think they deserve the spot.

Can someone tell me where the love for Fresno State comes from? I mean look at this schedule def. (I-AA) Weber State lost to (7-1) Oregon def. (6-2) Toledo def. (0-8) New Mexico State def. (2-5) Utah State def. (2-6) Idaho def. (3-5) Hawaii So, their I-A wins have come against teams with a combined record of 13-26. Honestly, there are I-AA teams that could go 5-2 with that schedule. The fact that they're ranked ahead of teams like Michigan and Northwestern is downright ridiculous.

In the spirit of Minnesota, I too will print some goals for the season. Here are the goals for Georgia Tech: 1. Win the Bored Bowl. 2. Win the Bored Bowl. 3. Win the Bored Bowl.

That would be hilarious if it was Podsednik. How did he go from 0 HRs in the regular season to 2 in the postseason? By injecting clutch ability into his ass.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}> LOL. I was trying to do the humble thing, but then after two sentences of it, I couldn't help myself, and I had to throw something in there. I guess deep down I'm just a cocky prick.

Quite a dramatic scene in the late late game tonight. I listened to it on the radio, because it turned out to be the deciding factor on whether I'd make or lose money on my sports bets this week. Anyway, I bet the moneyline on (1-6) Idaho against (0-7) New Mexico State and finally turned the radio on with 1:00 left. (Remember, I'm in Pullman WA, 8 miles from Moscow ID, so it was on here.) The game was so bad that I have to retell it here. Idaho gets the ball first in the OT, and fumbles it on the very first play. Luckily, it goes out of bounds and Idaho survives. Then, the next play they throw an interception that gets run back for a touchdown! Well, that's what the radio announcers said anyway. Apparently, the cornerback stepped out of bounds at the 30, meaning Idaho's alive if they keep NMSU from getting a FG or a TD. Anyway, next possession, it's incomplete, sack, incomplete, giving NMSU 4th and 20 from their own 35. Since they can't kick a field goal from there, they just go for it, and throw a deep ball, It's caught at the five yard line, and then run in for a touchdown! However, this turns out to be yet another mistake by the announcers as the receiver apparently fumbled it out of the end zone, resulting in a touchback, and sending the game to another OT. NMSU actually does score a TD this time, and it's Idaho's turn to answer. On third down, they throw a TD pass, and decide to go for two. The quarterback rolls out, throws it incomplete, and once again game over, Idaho loses, right? Right? No, this time it turns out there was offsides, and the Vandals get yet another chance. This time, the QB actually completes the 2-point conversion, and Idaho wins one of the worst games ever played. I mean, honestly, they lost the game three times(!), only for somebody to step out of bounds, fumble, or commit a penalty. It was kinda fun to listen to, but it was sure an abomination for football.

That's all right. I deserve it. I kind of went off last week. Anyway, just glad to see I survived my bad week as a narrow #2. I'm not going to get cocky and guarantee a win next week, but I will guarantee that I won't make a pick like Nebraska over Oklahoma again. Let's just say that if I were AlwaysPissedOff, I wouldn't get too comfortable.

Not to mention that Oklahoma State's terrible. USC never trailed a team that was anywhere near that bad after the first quarter. Of course, after Texas actually made the big comeback, I don't think they'll get punished much.
-
I was saying that it would be three unbeatens if UCLA and Texas both lost tonight. However, UCLA came back from down 21 with 8:30 to go to beat Stanford 30-27 in OT, and Texas has regained the lead over OSU. It looks like after all the upset possibilities, the only unbeaten going down today will be Georgia in a game that wasn't even really an upset against the favored Gators. By the way, I want to extend an honorary "Coug it" award to Stanford this week. I don't even know if WSU could have blown a 21 point lead that late. Congratulations Cardinal, at least for this week, you're the biggest screwups in all the land.
-
Well, looks like Virginia Tech might not have to worry about getting a miracle in the BCS. It's halftime and the Longhorns are still down 16 to Oklahoma State. Of course, in all likelihood, Texas will get the comeback, especially considering that OSU was winless in the Big XII coming in. However, even so, just the scare may be enough to make Texas lose some points in the polls. If the final is somehting like 40-38 Texas, I bet Va. Tech's a lot closer to them in the BCS rankings come Monday. Oh, and finally, what about Stanford. They've got a 14 point lead on UCLA in the fourth. If both upsets hold, we could go from having six unbeatens at the start of the day to three by the end of the night.
-
The Big XII sucking and giving OU some easy wins is not enough to put them in the Top 25. They're probably more around the 35-40 range. I'd call their category: Teams that are decent, but still aren't quite under consideration to be ranked.
-
Wow, looks like my #1 ranking might be short-lived. After getting the tiebreak and the New Mexico/Colorado State game wrong, I now need to get all three games right tomorrow to win. Even worse, I really don't even think Nebraska will beat Oklahoma, as I regretted the pick almost as soon as I made it. I think I really might have choked away the top spot this week.

I take it you don't watch the NFL. The number one sport of interest for white men, and a sport in which over 95% of the speed positions, (in fact at one time, 149 out of 150 starting spots) are occupied by blacks. That's nothing to do with marketing. It just means that white people can't run as fast as black people.

Couldn't they just say "Kane broke his back on the superplex on Raw." Would that really be that hard?

Just for the record, ABC's cute new habit of shutting the west coast out of the early games, and then making up for it with some crappy mid-major game that no one cares about is really starting to piss me off. This week, if you're anywhere near the west coast, you don't get Ohio State/Minnesota or Oklahoma/Nebraska. No, you get Fresno State/Hawaii. Are they really that sure that no one gets up before noon on the west coast that they have to shower us with this crap?
-
Yeah, Alabama was a contender before they lost Prothro, but honestly, that offense can't score on anyone. I don't see any way that they get through LSU AND Auburn AND the SEC Championship game undefeated. VT does have Miami at home, so the ACC championship's probably their best chance to pick up a loss. Given that their just flat out better than the Seminoles, I don't see any reason why they shouldn't coast through the rest of the schedule and go to 12-0.
-
I was saying that Georgia Tech was they're most impressive win before they beat Boston College. That's why it said they had instead of they have. My point was that now that they're getting into the meat of their schedule and playing teams like Boston College, Miami, and Florida State, they're starting to deserve the national recognition and they should rise accordingly. And you're right that West Virginia's better than Georgia Tech, of course. It's just that winning 34-17 in Morgantown doesn't leave the same resounding memory that a 51-7 beatdown of the Yellow Jackets does.

A look ahead towards college basketball...
iggymcfly replied to therealworldschampion's topic in Sports
I say Duke just goes ahead and wins the title this year. In college basketball, it seems like whenever some team gets super hyped before the season, it ends up being because they are the best, and then they end up winning the title. (See UConn two years ago and Carolina last year.) Just watch, they'll lose to someone like Bucknell early in the season, and everyone will be talking about how overrated they are, but then come April, they'll be cutting down the nets. -
Well, they haven't proven it yet, but I honestly think Virginia Tech might be the best team in the country. They looked great against Boston College tonight, and they definitely have the most balanced team of the Rose Bowl contenders. USC and Texas might be able to light up the scoreboard, and Alabama and Georgia might be able to play lockdown defense, but VT's the only team that really does both. I can see why they haven't gotten much consideration so far, considering that GT's probably the best team they'd beaten. But after thumping BC, and taking on Miami, Virginia, and FSU, I see no reason why they shouldn't pass Texas and USC. To be fair, Texas has looked great too, but Ohio State is the only real Top 20 team on their schedule, and I think if VT makes it through the ACC unscathed, they might be slightly more deserving. This is a really difficult year, as the top three unbeatens all look to be pretty legitimate, and there isn't really someone like last year's Sooner team, that you can just look at them and say: "this team's not national championship material."

I say 1: Nintendo 64 2: Nintendo 3: Super Nintendo 4: X-Box 5. Game Boy 6. Playstation 2 7. Playstation 8. Sega Genesis Nothing else really deserves positive mention as far as I'm concerned. The Gamecube is terrible, the Dreamcast was a colossal failure, and my Game Gear broke about three weeks after I got it for no apparent reason and was completely unfixable. Anyway, no matter how pretty the new systems look, I doubt I'll ever have as much fun with them as I had with my N64. Not only was it a gigantic leap forward for the gaming industry, it had some of the most fun games ever. Mario 64 and Mario Kart 64 are pretty much in a class by themselves as far as fun games go. Last year, I dug out my N64, played Mario 64 for a few weeks, and had almost as much fun as I did the first time. Way more fun then with any of my current PS2 games. Ocarina of Time, Diddy Kong Racing, Goldeneye, Shadows of the Empire, and Mario Party were also tremendously fun games that eclipse most of the games out today. There were also plenty of fun sports games available, and I really don't get where all the N64 hate on here's coming from. If you paid $80 for a game, then you're just a dumbass; I never even saw any that high. Look at it with a little historical perspective. When PS2 and X-Box came out, you were probably like, "oh, this is a little better. Look, the graphics are much sharper." When the N64 came out, everybody was more like "Oh my god! Video games can do this!?! This is the greatest creation in history. I'm never leaving my room again!" When I looked through that first list, all I was thinking was "the N64 better be #1." Glad to see it get the respect it deserves.

Porter: You are so clever. I don't know how you thought up this brilliant parody of Dama. You win the Pulitzer for comedic contribution to a message board. Now will you please just go away?

I assume we are about the same age, because these three are my firsts, too. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I guess I kinda fit in with both groups here because Suns/Bulls is the first NBA Finals I remember, but I remember both Cowboys/Bills Super Bowls, I remember Jays/Braves before Jays/Phillies, and the Canadiens/Kings is my first Stanley Cup Finals. Oh, and while we're going down the list, I remember UNC beating Michigan on Webber's epic choke, and I'm pretty sure that FSU winning it all was the first college football year I remember. It's weird how people will be the same on one sport, and then way off on another one though. I mean really, who gets into the NBA before they watch a Super Bowl?
-
You have to admit, it's pretty impressive that the Astros got as far as they did with that offense. It might be the worst offense on a WS team in the modern era. If you're an Astros fan, you should thank god that the stars aligned and that the season went as well as it did. Complaining about not winning the WS sounds pretty weak to me in that situation.

I really don't see the need for the death penalty here. Everyone knows that child molesters get raped more than any other prison inmates. I think that kind of eye for an eye justice is more than appropriate.

I'm not a bandwagon fan. I'm just happy to win $200. GO GAMBLING!
