Well, ESPN certainly seems high on him. If memory serves me, he was actually on regular Gameday for a while until he took the job at South Carolina. The problem is, he doesn't really seem to get into analyzing games. He just seems like this kindly old man, that's only interested if you're talking about some place he coached at like ND or SC.

Actually, at this point, I'd say their toughest tests might be Texas Tech and Iowa State in the Big XII championship game. Texas Tech has been getting consistently better week after week, and Iowa State took a really solid football team, and just destroyed them today. Still though, considering how well they played tonight, I'd say that Texas has about an 80-85% chance of going to the national championship. Honestly, USC is more likely to lose than Texas right now with big tests coming up against Arizona State, Cal, Notre Dame, and Washington State. OK, the last one was a joke, but the school I attend is doing pretty damn well right now.

Does anyone else miss Trev Alberts already? Lee Corso already has the crazy old man thing covered; Lou Holtz doing the same thing is just overkill.

Why would it be stupid. It would make the show more interesting which would in turn increase ratings and buyrates.

Back on the original topic, I think Shawn has every right to be unhappy right now. For the month leading into Summerslam, he was the only thing worth watching on Raw, and then they go job him clean to a 52-year old, and follow it up by sticking him with heatless Chris Masters. I haven't watched more than about ten minutes of Raw since Summerslam, and it's because there isn't one interesting character on the show. If they told Shawn that he was going to beat Hogan clean at Summerslam and then beat John Cena for the WWE title at Unforgiven, I'm sure he wouldn't have had any problem staying a heel.

Peterson's pretty tough; he can handle quite a workload. And honestly, if he carries the ball less than 40 times against UCLA and KSU, the Sooners are going to be 1-3 when they face Texas.

I wouldn't really call Notre Dame beating Purdue an upset at this point. They just went on the road and beat Michigan who was (with Ohio State) supposed to be the best team in the Big Ten. Purdue's supposed to be strong this year, but they'd be the unproven commodity against what's been a terrific Irish team thus far.

No no. Not out of the goodness of his heart. It's because you have PUPPIES!

A look ahead towards college basketball...

Georgia Tech lost everybody decent and so did Washington State. Fuck basketball. -
I tried to watch Smallville a few times, but it was too boring; I never really got too into it. Dawson's Creek was kind of interesting, but the dialogue was consistently terrible, and the show took itself way too seriously. The characters just never talked like real people, and it was hardly ever funny either. The first season of the OC was an awesome, funny, clever show that was always insightful, and almost never boring or cliche. The early episodes in particular were excellent in terms of a show actually living up to its potential in taking a basic story and telling it perfectly. If you want to talk shit about the second or third seasons, I really can't defend those, but the first season was awesome. Speaking of the third season, I have to say that this episode was pretty disappointing. We've basically got everybody laughing and giggling during a murder investigation with Ryan not even really seeming to care that he might spend his life in jail, followed by some forced scene where Ryan laments Trey leaving town. And don't even get me started on Kirsten in rehab. I really don't see much positive potential for this season at all.

They just got confused between mid-major teams that used to be good and mid-major teams that still are good.

I've got a better idea. Just don't show up. You probably won't miss anything important.

I like the show a lot. It's definitely on my regular rotation right now. For some reason, I've always been kind of fascinated by the Roman Empire, and the historical accuracy is excellent here, right down to the training of the soldiers, and the clothing of the everyday man.

Not at all. They were a very good conference when they still had balance and teams like Nebraska and K-State made the north half competitive. However, last year OU and Texas were the only legitimate teams and teams like Texas A&M and Oklahoma State just got pumped up by their weak schedules. This year with Texas A&M and Oklahoma both looking bad in non-conference, Texas really needs to look good if the Big XII's going to get any respect. Oh, and for the record, Oklahoma was my preseason pick to win the national title last year, so it's not like I've been dogging on them for years.

You're dumb. And yes.
-
I would totally watch that. That would have been hilarious.
-
It actually does make sense in this case, if only because the Big XII is an overrated conference that could easily lose national prominence and stature if they don't have a big team on top to make people believe they're for real. Texas beating Ohio State could go a long way toward helping OU get a BCS berth down the line if they end up something like 8-3 or 9-2 at the end of the season.

It's a tough call, but I went for Texas. For some reason, no matter how much hype they get, I'm still not sold on Ohio State. The program was declining before the Clarett scandal, and I don't really see how they'd reload hard enough to become a Top 5 kind of team. The only thing that bothers me is that the Big XII has been consistently overrated, and I have a hard time trusting any team from that conference to win a marquee matchup on the road. Still though, the heart of the Texas team last year was the defense, and the O-line, and they're only missing about two or three guys from that group, so I think they'll do just enough to beat Ohio State. Final score: Texas 18 Ohio State 13

The meat and potato burritos from Taco John's are the shit. I thought they were more regional though, as when I bring them up outside of Montana, people think I'm crazy. I didn't know they stretched all the way to Wisconsin.

Thursday Washington State at Nevada (As someone who attends WSU, let me say that this will probably be a loss for me.) Saturday Kansas State at Marshall Clemson at Maryland Notre Dame at Michigan San Diego State at Air Force Iowa at Iowa State Northern Illinois at Northwestern Louisiana-Lafayette at Eastern Michigan Stanford at Navy Boise State at Oregon State Wake Forest at Nebraska North Texas at Middle Tennessee State Texas at Ohio State LSU at Arizona State Tiebreak #1: How many total points will be scored in the Washington State/Nevada game? 39 Tiebreak #2: How many total yards will Texas' Vince Young have against Ohio State? 220

Yeah, it did the exact same thing to me. ESPN's retarded.
-
That's the thing that sucks about the current system. Teams that play in a "major" conference where they have no legitimate competition get rewarded for looking impressive whereas teams that actually play a difficult schedule, facing three or four legitimate contenders in their conference slate get hammered. I'd say that the year where USC was left out of the title game in favor of LSU and Oklahoma was about the only instance in recent memory where a team actually got punished for playing jobbers all year.

Honestly, the gimmick matches on TV annoy the shit out of me right now. It seems like for every feud, the pattern is straight match on PPV followed by two or three meaningless gimmick matches on Raw. Basically, it's like they just wrestle for the hell of it, and the wins and losses mean absolutely nothing.
-
Actually, I'd say this loss is huge for Oklahoma. Going into the season I was thinking that Texas would win the Big XII, and that the Sooners might be able to back into an at-large berth because of their easy schedule. Now I'd say that getting in as an at-large is completely off the table, and they're going to need another Texas choke job to even have a chance at getting in. BTW, when you look at how weak Oklahoma and Texas A&M are right now, it makes the Texas/Ohio State game even more important than before. If Texas gets by the Buckeyes, they're not going to play another Top 20 caliber team for the rest of the year, and it basically means that every team outside the Pac-Ten and Big XII will be locked out of the race for the national title.

Well, I drank enough last night that I missed most of the morning, but when it comes to OU and Tennessee, all I can say is I told you so. I remember when I was saying that they didn't deserve to be in the Top Ten and Dama and his Sooner mark buddies were saying it was ridiculous. Well, I'm pretty sure they won't be anywhere near the Top Ten this week. Tennessee hasn't fucked their season over yet or anything, and there certainly nowhere near as bad as OU, but I really don't see them being the absolute Top 5 team they were purported to be, and a lot of weaknesses were revealed against UAB today. I'd put them behind Florida, Alabama, and LSU among teams with a real chance to win the SEC.
