Well, I jinxed the Orioles into giving up runs twice with my posting, but they still held on and beat the Twins 3-2 on a solo shot by Tejada in the 12th. I don't care who gets a spot between the Red Sox and Yankees, but the O's are going to take the other one either way.
-
I think Bam Margera snuck him in. Then he's going to help him drop Edge's car off a cliff during the cage match.
-
Well they took Bedard out a little early, (he did just come off the DL after all), and the Twins got a little bit of a rally going, but the Orioles just turned a picture perfect double play to get out of the eighth. They should be all set now. And we all know that the Red Sox and Yankees money is dirty because they have too damn much of it. Any GM with an IQ above 90 should keep them winning at least 100 games a season.

The one thing I liked about that Hogan/Michaels exchange was that when Hogan was doing his rambling old man spiel, HBK kept this real bored look on his face the whole time, like he couldn't give a shit about any of Hogan's dumb crap. Showed what the feud's really supposed to be all about IMO.
-
Sammy Sosa just hit a 2-run bomb to break up a shutout in the seventh and the way that Bedard's pitching, the Twins aren't liekly to come back. Don't write off the Orioles just yet. The people that Baltimore's getting off the DL are better than all the mercenaries the Yankees and Red Sox can find to take their dirty money.

Hooray for the Diva Search. Otherwise, I would have been stuck watching Raw all night, and I would have totally missed that the Orioles and Twins are in a scoreless tie on ESPN alternate.
-
How's this for a sign to hold during the Diva Search: IF YOU WANTED TO MAKE ME HORNY, YOU SHOULD HAVE LEFT BENOIT ON RAW

I'm actually not. They come here occasionally, but I've always thought of them as one of the most overrated rock bands in history. Their music really isn't all that good. Of course, I guess it doesn't matter because by the end of August, I'll be back in Pullman anyway. As for the 50 Cent show, it was awesome though. There were probably more black people on stage then there were in the entire crowd, but everyone was still into the music, and the show was just really fun all-around.

I can see if people are complaining about someone like RVD having to "work WWE style" seeing as he did so many innovative things in ECW. But honestly, where do people get the idea that 2000 WCW style was better than what was going on in the WWF? Granted, I stopped watching on any kind of regular basis in 1998, but whenever I'd turn on a WCW match, all I'd ever see was resthold, stall, stall, stall, punch, stall, stall, wrestling move, stall, stall, blown spot, stall, stall, resthold. I mean, honestly, WCW put on some terrible matches, and when JR would talk about the "near half-speed used in WCW" in the Ross Report, he was telling the truth. This myth that WCW was better than the WWF in terms of in-ring quality is something that I will never understand.

I'm going to the 50 Cent concert tonight. Fuck yeah! And where is that concert, you might ask? That's right, it's in Missoula, Montana. Far and away the biggest show we've got here in a while. Just thought I'd post that, seeing as how I'm in a good mood (translation: drunk) and don't have anything to do until the show starts.
-
Gillberg of course!

Yes, definitely. Whereas the WM XX match relied on the typical formulaic "everyone has everyone else beat constantly, but people are always breaking up the near falls" dynamic present in so many triple threat matches, the Vengeance match had a lot deeper psychology. They were really doing everything they could to wear down the body and take each other out, and it was only because of some of the huge spots earlier that Brock's back and shoulder area got weakened enough to be pinned by one Angle Slam.
-
They'd had a bunch of good hype for WCW, people were into the angle with Shane leading WCW, and the fans were actually somewhat interested to see the first WCW match on WWF television. Then Booker T and Buff Bagwell put on, honest to god, the worst main event the WWF had seen in the last three years. Worse than the matches with Vince and Stephanie, worse than the matches with Earl Hebner, worse than anything. I'm not saying it was the only reason why Booker T or WCW for that matter didn't get over in the WWF, but it was certainly a very large contributing factor.
-
Don't forget that they tried to push him as a face first until is terrible performance in the ring caused the entire WWF fanbase to turn on him. Honestly, the idea of a WWF heel (Kurt Angle) beating previously face Booker T caused the crowd to react like the Rock had just come back.

With the idea of the bowl champions from last year renaming the bowls for next year, I decided to find this thread to remember what they used to be. It was a little bit difficult to find, so I figured that I'd bump it in case other people wanted to look at it as well. Also, that preseason Top 10 would be nice to see soon, since it was originally supposed to be done back in January.
-
I actually laughed out loud when I read this. That's the best quote I've heard in a long time.
-
I evaluated it as objectively as I could, and I still thought that the one with Big Show and Brock in it was better than the triple threat from the year before. However, I have to confess that I'm a huge mark for Angle, and I almost creamed myself when he pinned Brock clean with the Angle Slam.
-
Taker had great matches with RVD back in 2001 and 2002, and Brock's matches against Show are extremely overrated. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The fuck they are. The stretcher match at Judgment Day was the most entertaining match Big Show's had in his life, and totally made the show, even with a dead feud going in. Big Show might not be capable of a ****+ singles match, but it was as close to **** as he's capable of going. The Smackdown match where the ring broke was entertaining as well, and then the Triple Threat at Vengeance with Angle was the best triple threat match in WWE history. Brock does some incredible things where you don't believe he'll be able to. I bet the guy could even work a **** match with Booker T.
-
Translation: Shit, everybody read my thread and no one found it interesting enough to respond. Now it's going to fall off the page before anybody responds to it. Well, I'll just bump it and say something controversial. Then they'll have to notice me! By the way, there was plenty of discussion about this in the WWE folder three days ago, but you've really missed the boat on this one. Calling out people for thinking the Hardy thing was a shoot is sooo 2 days ago.

The Orioles need to just do what they need to do to get ths deal done for AJ Burnett. Seriously, he is likely going to be the difference between whether the Orioles have a legitimate run in the postseason this year or miss it altogether. I'd really say that it doesn't matter whether they deal Cabrera or Penn at this point, because if they keep Burnett in Baltimore, (which they should be able to, Angelos is capable of spending more than the middling payroll they have right now,) he'll be better than either one of them for the next six or seven years. By the time that Burnett's too old to be a top-level starter, not only do we have no idea how the two of them will have developed, we have no idea where either one of them will be pitching. It could be anywhere from Yankee stadium to their own backyards after blowing out their arms.

Yeah, I think we all know that Jericho's been buried too much to have a legitimate shot at Summerslam, especially with the dearth of main event faces available on Raw right now. At this point, I'll be perfectly happy to see Cena drop the belt to HBK at Unforgiven or Survivor Series. Then, maybe, Shawn could feud with a newly turned face Kurt Angle for a couple months before eventually having a title vs. title match at Wrestlemania with the real main event, Rob......Van.......Dam.
-
Well, if you watched the promo Monday, Bischoff, Jericho, and Cena himself, all referred to Cena as a "thug" multiple times. The fact that he's trying so hard to play up that side of his character is one of the major complaints about him.

Weird Thoughts You Had Reading WWE News and Notes
iggymcfly replied to ChrisMWaters's topic in The WWE Folder
Oh my god. Can HHH do anything without being criticized for it? First, it was that he won't put over new talent. So he loses to Batista at Wrestlemania. Then it was, well, he'll just get his job back isntead of really putting him over. So he loses to him again at Backlash. Then the complaint was that after putting him over, he'll just take the title back again in a month anyway. So he puts Batista over decisively inside HIAC, HHH's personal gimmick match. Then it was that he won't give up his spot, and that he'll continue to hog TV time. So he goes off TV altogether. And you're still complaining?!? I swear, if HHH rescued a bus full of children, you'd say he was being a spotlight hog or breaking character or something. This man can do nothing right with the internet. -
Is soccer's world cup a "real" competition? How about any Olympic team sport? How about the NCAA football season? In any of those competitions, two losses will eliminate you from contention. You can't realistically expect a 30 game mini-season for an international competition, and I think the format's just about perfect as is. The only real problem I see is the participants. If a majority of invited US stars play, along with Japan and Korea, I think that it will be a tremendous event. The lack of interest from players (and foreign countries) is the only possible thing that could kill this competition.

But it's so stupid, I think that people want to think there is a deeper meaning. I'm a smart guy and I didn't know what the hell he was talking about. And at the risk of starting a war with many on this board, I have to say.... how in the hell is this guy over and why is he WWE champion?! I've reserved comment for a while because the guy was on Smackdown and I rarely catch the show, but now I have seem him a few times on Raw and literally can't stand a thing he does. The guy is absolutely terrible in the ring. And not terrible in that he relies too heavily on spots to pop the crowd,, or has a weak looking finisher. He just literally looks like he has no idea what he's doing in there. There is no fluidity to his movement, the matches have no reliance on psychology and he blows spots all the time. His look is beyond awful. He doesn't look street or thug... he looks like the wiggers you see at the mall who have no idea how ridiculous they look. I don't think anything he does is edgey. In fact it's a ridiculous gimmick and its the sort of thing that makes me embarrassed when I show a non-fan. Furthermore, he's way overrated on the mic. Although I think he can talk, nothing he says makes me want to pay to see him and none of it gets over the feud or the guy he's working with. He relies too much on the gay bashing and street talk. Now if you think I'm wrong, enlighten me. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You took the words right out of my mouth. When I saw how huge the cheers were that he was getting, I was assuming he'd improved on the mic during the time I wasn't watching Smackdown, but he really hasn't. That promo against Jericho was one of those that's so embarrassingly bad, I'd have to change the channel if anyone else was in the room. If anything, it reminds me of Bradshaw's second to last big push. He'd basically say, well, I'm from Texas, I wear the same kind of clothes Austin does, I'm teaming with Austin, and I'm a big rebel drinker like Austin, so if you cheer Austin, you should cheer me. I'm just like Austin, honest I am. Every promo Cena cuts he's always like, "don't hate me because I'm from the streets, I'm not ashamed of being a thug, I can fight even if I don't fit in with the rich people", and there's NO reason for it in the storyline. It's kind of ironic that his catchphrase is "real recognizes real" because he comes off as a bigger poser than Vanilla Ice ever did. The worst part is that if they play up is this rich, chosen one vs. poor thug aspect in a feud with Jericho of all people, they're going to hammer it over our heads tenfold when it actually fits the character against people like HHH and Angle.
