Shane's not the bad McMahon at all

My god. You people will complain about anything. Shane McMahon's awesome. I marked out like crazy for him, as did a bunch of other people who will be tuning into Raw next week despite how boring the bulk of the show was. The guy hasn't had more than an occasional apperance on the show in over a year and a half, and when he comes in, you all bitch about him hogging the show? What the fuck is up with that? So he's not a fulltime wrestler. He's more entertaining than 90% of the people that are. And it's not just bumps, he actually has acting talent. If RVD or Booker T could sell righteous rage half as good as Shane can, they'd have some kind of World Title run in the WWE by now. What they did tonight was give the fans something to mark for before Kane eventually destroys Shane. That doesn't kill Kane's monster persona, it adds to it. I like how the same people that bitch that HHH is hurting himself by not letting his opponents get over say Kane's whole persona will be KILLED if Shane gets some offense with a steel chair before they have their actual match. The goal of the WWE isn't to make sure every wrestler gets as much time as possible, as many paychecks as possible, and looks as good as possible. It's to entertain people. If a ton of people want to tune in to see Shane vs. Kane in a TV main event, (and it will be a TV main event), then good. The WWE has achieved it's goal. The money match for Summerslam, even though no one believes it's gonna happen, is still Kane vs. Austin. RVD might be left off the card, but with how deep the talent roster is, you can't put every deserving person on the joint PPV. What everyone who's complaining about Shane needs to do is stop overanalyzing how much money someone's gonna earn at a PPV, how much they might get over, and just enjoy the parts of the show that are good.

Well, at least Goldberg's over right now. They might actually get a good build for this match.

    MOTYC so far.

Well, I know I'm gonna get massacred for it, but here's mine. 1. Brock Lesnar vs. Kurt Angle vs. Big Show (Vengeance) ****1/2 2. HBK vs. Jericho (Wrestlemania) ****1/4 3. Filthy Animals vs. WGTT (Vengeance) ****1/4 4. Chris Benoit vs. Kurt Angle (Royal Rumble) **** 5. Brock Lesnar vs. Kurt Angle (Wrestlemania) **** 6. Chris Benoit vs. Eddie Guerrero (Vengeance) **** 7. Chris Benoit vs. Matt Hardy (Smackdown) **** 8. Rey Mysterio vs. Matt Hardy (Smackdown) ***3/4 9. Kurt Angle vs. Big Show, Charlie Haas, and Shelton Benjamin (Smackdown) ***3/4 10. Goldberg vs. Chris Jericho (Bad Blood) ***3/4 One small defense: The sound wasn't working at the bar during the Angle/Benoit match and it really pissed me off. Still don't think the match was all THAT good though. There haven't been a lot of really good matches this year.
  5. He is on drugs. What was possibly wrong with that match? Everything was beatifully crisp throughout, there were tons of cool spots, and there was a surprising finish. It overshadowed tons of great wrestling throughout the night, and might be the best Triple Threat match the WWE has ever put on. I'd even consider it a MOTY candidate at this point.

    So now where?

I thought Cena losing last night would be enough to dispel the stupid rumors of Brock vs. McMahon at Summerslam. The obvious main event is Brock vs. Angle. Think about it. Why would they have Angle pin Lesnar cleanly in the match? To make Lesnar snap and turn heel so that we have a face/heel matchup when the two face off at Summerslam. I'm not sure where Taker, Cena, and Big Show go from here, (throwaway tag match maybe?), but the main event is obviously Angle vs. Brock. Anyone who thinks that Brock/McMahon and Angle/Big Show are feasible main events for Summerslam doesn't understand the wrestling business very well.

    Did anybody notice this...

Well, I thought the stuff he did in early '99 at least, worked really well. When he won the Rumble and faced Austin in the cage match at St. Valentine's Day Massacre, that was great. The title might have been overkill I guess. Anyway, that doesn't change the fact that for suspension of disbelief, it was good for him to beat Gowen. Zach really doesn't belong in the WWE.
  8. Uh, on Raw every week.
  9. It was a fun match, and damn good for a brawl. If Cena had gotten the three count, everyone would be raving about it. I gave it **3/4, but that was after hearing a ton of people criticize it. It was more like ***.
  10. Not really. Smackdown was shit until about three weeks ago. I thought Raw had been better for a long time, but with Kurt pinning Brock cleanly in the middle of the ring, (still cant believe I'm typing that), Smackdown has to get the nod for now.

    Did anybody notice this...

Ok, two things. First, Vince is a former WWE champion. He is a former Royal Rumble winner. He's headlined multiple PPVs. He is ripped out of mind. There is nothing wrong with him beating a one-legged guy. Also, this is just me, but I was wondering. Does anyone else think it's possible that Zach was booked to win the match before he made a gigantic hole in the side of Vince's head. Even if it wasn't his fault, I could totally see Vince getting pissed off and changing the finish.
  12. Well, he's all about the workrate. From a workrate perspective, that was just about flawless.
  13. I actually thought that Angle/Benoit was really overrated, although that might have something to do with the fact that the sound wasn't working at the bar where I was watching it. The finish hurt the Benoit/Guerrero match to the point where it wasn't above ****, but from a pure entertainment standpoint, I'd say tonight's main event was much more fun than Angle/Benoit.

The One and Only *Vengeance* Thread

I can never understand how people can compare an established star happening to beat someone in their early 20s to a whole company making a concerted effort to not give anyone under the age of 40 their World title.

The One and Only *Vengeance* Thread

Cena's been in the WWE just over a year. He's got plenty of time to move up in the company. Undertaker's still extremely over with the casual fans and they're gonna need him to main event a PPV some time this year. It's not like Taker no-sold his offense or made him look bad. He just happened to pick up the victory. Besides, why should Taker lose to give Cena back half the heat that Stephanie stole from him last Thursday?

    Vince slams the internet again...

Could Jesus Angle slam both Brock Lesnar and Big Show to win his fourth WWE title? Then who cares? ANGLE IS GOD

The One and Only *Vengeance* Thread

Who says Angle will still be champion? I think Angle pinning Brock was to setup a Brock heel turn to add more heat to the Brock/Angle Summerslam main event. Brock could regain his title there and go on to face Taker at No Mercy. With that being said, I hope they don't take that option. Angle could do great as champion, and Brock to Big Show Angle to Brock to Angle to Brock is the title changes moving to the same people too much.

The One and Only *Vengeance* Thread

This is pure speculation, but the same person who predicted every match correctly except for Sable/Steph and Noble/Gunn thinks that Brock/Taker will main event No Mercy just like last year. For my part however, I'd be perfectly happy to see them keep the title on Angle as long as they want.

The One and Only *Vengeance* Thread

This certainly wasn't a throwaway PPV. We had the return of Kurt Angle, the debut of Zach Gowen, the finals of the tournament for the US Title, a WWE title change, and Brock's first clean loss.

The One and Only *Vengeance* Thread

At the bar, I popped huge, but hardly anyone else did. I think most of them were rooting for Brock. Undertaker and Gowen both got huge pops though

    My star ratings

Ok, here's my star ratings: Benoit/Guerrero: **** -Excellent match, would have been higher without Rhyno being the finish. Noble/Gunn: *1/4 -Not bad, just boring. Bar room brawl: 1/2* -Too long, not enough entertaining spots. Sable vs. Steph *1/4 -Good women's match, but a lame finish and not much from a T&A standpoint. Filthy Animals vs. WGTT ****1/4 -Absolutely amazing, best tag match since No Mercy. Cena vs. Undertaker **3/4 -A little sloppy, but still a very good match. Gowen vs. McMahon *1/2 -Vicious legit blood, too bad Vince couldn't finish the match properly. Lesnar vs. Angle vs. Big Show ****1/2 -Best triple threat match I've ever seen; much better than Taker/Angle/Rock. Final thought: Great PPV, best of the year. No way to anticipate how good this show would be.

    Fuck Vengeance.

Oh no! You missed out on renting a video game! I feel so fucking sorry for you. Anyway, I don't think I'd ever actually order a PPV, but this one was actually worth at least $15, $20 if I had it recorded at home. This was better than Wrestlemania. Anyone who'd bitch about this PPV will not like anything the WWE is capable of doing right now.

The One and Only *Vengeance* Thread

Well, I just got back from the bar and I only read the last page of the thread because if I read the whole thing, people would be done talking about the PPV for the night. However, I want to say that PPV was AWESOME! I think that was the most fun PPV I've seen since No Mercy. Benoit/Guerrero, Filthy Animals/Suck Squad, and the Triple Threat were all ****+ matches. And since I'm a huge mark for Angle, I thought the main event was perfect. He didn't just win the match, he pinned Brock. The powerbomb and the Angle Slam through the table were both great holy sh*t moments too. In fact, the whole match went a lot better than anyone could have expected. As far as the booking goes, I'm almost positive this will be the trigger for Brock's heel turn. Losing the title and losing a match clean for the first time ever would be enough for him to flip out or even side with Heyman again. The booking's excellent, and when you think about how great Angle is as a performer, why shouldn't he look strong enough to beat both of those men? Finally, just to gloat a little, I wanna say that I won $500 on Eddie escaping the crossface, and whatever a $500 bet on Angle pays ($900?) in the gambling thread. Angle's a four time WWE Champ. WHOO!

The One and Only *Vengeance* Thread

That whole California thing was just Cole and Tazz making excuses. Eddie's gotten cheered every night since he turned heel. Then when you combine that with the fact that PPV crowds are notoriously for cheering heels, and the fact that people will pick up on Eddie as the anti-hero after Smackdown last week, and he's definitely going to be the face at Vengeance. If you want a face champion, then you better give the belt to Eddie. I say Eddie cheats to win tonight, and then beats Benoit clean in a ladder match at Summerslam.

The Official "Latino Heat is God" thread

You people are all missing the point. Yeah, he was over against Team Angle, but he didn't get really over until he turned heel on Tajiri. Now he gets Eddie chants constantly and the fans pop huge every time he beats a babyface. Angle's the only person on Smackdown who gets a better response than Eddie does. The fans like the gimmick because it's fresh and clever, and when the writers tried to tell them that they should boo him, they basically gave out a resounding "Hell no." Then when you add in the lowrider and his new hilarious promos, of course he's gonna get cheers. I'm not saying that he's World Title material right now, but a two or three month run with the US Title would be an excellent idea. What they need to do for now is give him an extended feud with Benoit, so that he'll still be the "heel" and the fans will feel like they're making the decision to cheer him. Then, after the feud's done, Eddie will be an extremely over upper-midcard face, and Benoit will once again be a lethal heel.
