    The Old School questions thread

1992 The Year In Review. I think I remember something like Bret Hart handing Piper a boot to hit Michaels or something to that effect? Anyone could fill me in with some details on this like whose boot was it or if it was a boot at all? Thanks in advance.

    X-Men 3

Just came back from the movie and I totally disagree with spman and his "review". Dude, you mentioned spoilers but you pretty much ended up recapping the entire fricking movie. It may well be the least satisfying of the three flicks but in no possible way is it a bad movie. It did suffer from lack of the kind of depth Bryan Singer gave the other two films, and it did move at a very brisk pace. You could almost make the argument that the movie would have benefitted from an extra 20-30 minutes (running time is 104 mins. IIRC) so it would have some better pacing and more exposition from the different characters, although it's clear the two stars are Wolvie and Storm so they get the most screen time. By now, and after like a dozen or so comic book movies, it is pointless to still debate wether they make a complete transfer from the comic pages to the screen. It's fucking impossible to have a 100% faithful adaptation! As long as the spirit of the creators remain then all should be fine and dandy. People complaining because the Juggernaut is not really a mutant (he's a guy who got his powers from a mystical gem and yada yada yada) but it's portrayed as such on the movie are just morons. Ditto with some of the (major) deaths and depowerings. Anyways, it is quite an enjoyable movie. More oriented towards the action side (which is awesome) as opposed to the storyline-driven X-Men and X2. As a long-time comic-book fan I can say that I was not disappointed and plan on watching it again soon. I recommend you guys also check it out and make your own conclusions. EDIT: And I also agree with some other guys here that Fantastic Four wasn't such a bad film.

Wait, he turned down a chance to exploit Eddie some more? This opens the door for the match Vince McMahon REALLY wanted, Chavo Guerrero vs. Rey Mysterio...IN A VICKI GUERRERO ON A POLE MATCH! Winner gets to take the place of Eddie Guerrero in his family's life. Is this supposed to be funny?

    Ghost Rider Trailer

Is there an official release date for the movie? I know it's been moved a couple of times already, but I could've sworn it was gonna be released this year. Now we have to wait until 2007? EDIT: Nevermind, the official release date is February 16, 2007.

    Worst X-Men Character?

Where did you get that those guys were that age? She being young had nothing to do with the X-Men allowing her to go on missions and such, since most X-Men members (if not all) started out as teenagers IIRC. It seems improbable that Colossus was that old when he met Kitty, although I might be mistaken. Remember comic book characters age in a weird way (ie. it's been 100 issues of Ultimate Spider-Man and only 9 months have officially gone by since the death of Uncle Ben.)

    Worst X-Men Character?

Thunderhawk? You must mean Thunderbird, the native american guy that died trying to capture Count Nefaria on the new X-Men's second official mission. I'm not sure but I'd say it's a good guess he had some form of enhanced physical attributes like strenght, stamina, speed, etc. Now his brother, Thunderbird II (later known as Warpath on X-Factor) also exhibited the same powers at first but I'm pretty sure he evolved into something else.

    Worst X-Men Character?

Unless my memory is failing me, that's pretty much the entire X-Men roster that went thru the Siege Perilious and "died" in front of millions of people that watched the events unfold on TV. IIRC when they came back they were "invisible" to everything except the naked eye. They had some fun stories from that period when they where stranded in the australian desert. And I really liked Marc Silvestri's artwork back then.

    Worst X-Men Character?

I've always hated two in particular: Psylocke and the Mikhail Rasputin (older brother to Colossus and Magik). Psylocke I've hated since they started fooling around with her powers every season. First she was a telepath, that's all nice and dandy. Then they gave her special armor, ok. Then all the convulted shit with that Revanche character where she was asian, no wait, she's not, then she's got bionic mojo eyes, no wait, she doesn't, then she's a ninja or whatever. Somehow she gets the powers to blend in shadows (I forget how), then she gets telekinesis instead of telepathy but is able to master it better that Jean Grey ever has. Then she dies (Yesss!) but inexplicably comes back to life after being stabbed with a big-ass sword. I'm sure by now they've explained how she resurfaced but I just don't care. And don't even get me started with Mikhail Rasputin. Loony reality-altering guy, responsible for some of the most shittiest X-Men stories ever. Nuff said.

    The Da Vinci Code

Saw it yesterday and enjoyed it. I've never read the book before so I came in mostly ignorant regarding the plot. It certainly had a nice pace to it, I never found it boring or slowish. The music I particularly liked, and I saw the ending coming but only like 10-15 mins. beforehand. The coverage that the religious groups gave this movie is certainly the kind of publicity you just can't buy. I'm sure the publicists and distributors just sat down and enjoyed the free advertising coming from all the supposed controversy and blasphemy. I took it as it was, a work of fiction that in no way made me question my beliefs or compromised my faith. Like Rogert Ebert said, maybe this'll give those people who said that a plane didn't crash on the Pentagon something else to think about. And the best thing is I also got my THURSDAY night ticket for X3. Yeah!

    In defense of Bendis

Is this in response to JasonX's comments elsewhere on this folder? Just wondering. You can't fault the success of New Avengers, which is the best-selling regular Marvel series and has been that way since issue #1 came out. Bendis laid the seeds for that series since the Avengers Disassembled storyline, which I thought was not that bad, although it came completely out of left field IMO regarding Scarlet Witch. I thought the idea warranted a slower burn. Ultimate Spider-Man is my favorite regular comic, so everything is good there. And I believe you neglected to mention the DareDevil comic. Bendis had a long, prosperous and acclaimed run there and I think it's worth mentioning. In short, yes, I believe Bendis gets too much flak sometimes. A lot of people are very vocal on hating the guy, blame pretty much everything that's bad on him, but he finds success every time.

And what are his other favorite matches according to that article? Maybe vs Kurt Angle at Royal Rumble 2003 where he won the WWE Title??
