Brand unification is an interesting idea, but only for the short term, meaning until the ECW angle is finished and the new ECW is up and running. I'm not sure that all that WWE has invested in making RAW and SD! separate is gonna be thrown out the window at this point. I do agree that RVD needs to do something extreme (pardon the pun) and radical in order for ECW to make a huge splash and establish itself as an alternative, but I'm not so keen on him throwing down the WWE Title (I don't see Vince agreeing on that), neither the World belt, even if it is far less pretigious than the WWE Title. Maybe the IC belt, since RVD's the IC champ now, but even that I'd have to see to believe. But if RVD does take somebody's World Title at ONSII what'll happen to him? Should he stay with WWE or should he move to ECW (could that be a demotion?) and help their relaunch? That would mean possibly he keeps somebody's Title and transforms it to the ECW title so a void could be made for either RAW or SD! having no top champion. In this case I'd like to see either the RAW or SD! champ to move from show to show like they did in 2002 when it was the "Undisputed" Title.

I remember that. It was terrible. Isn't that song available on the Smallville CD soundtrack?

Awesome. They did that (or a variation of it) on all the European shows this past week. I do remember the #1 contenders match which London won previous to Helms's injury, so it is odd them doing another one, but then again, not so much since London & Kendrick are slated for a Tag Titles shot in the following days. Those spoilers sound kinda bad, specially since SD! been having good/great in-ring work for the past several weeks, so I'll reserve judgment until a better set of more detailed spoilers are posted.

Interesting to say the least. Surprised to see such positives reviews after everyone being on DC-rules-Marvel-sucks mode lately, so I'll try to pick it up.

Glad to see someone giving some love to Saber Marionette J. It is a fun little series, and it continues for a bit renamed Saber J to X. Nothing to blow your mind, but fun nonetheless. Any appreciation for Castle of Cagliostro? Haven't seen anybody mention good ol' Lupin.

Nominees for the 2006 MTV Movie Awards
pochorenella replied to CBright7831's topic in Television & Film
That could happen, specially since she's hosting the show this year, isn't she? -
That's not stopping AM RAW from getting 1.1 ratings or better at 2am, and they've been getting those for a few weeks now. TNA's only hope for Impact is to see if the supposed move of (according to the spoilers) to the Main Event freshens up the NWA Title scene, and as a result helps the ratings somewhat after weeks and weeks of Christian looking like a paper champion and Jarrett still hoggin the spotlight.

Now all I have left anime/japanese related are my Speed Racer toys that were released a few years back(Mach 5, Speed Racer, Racer X, and the little kid and chimp), a great Ultraseven action figure (found it in NY's Chinatown of all places), and a metallic modern Mazinger-Z figure. These babies are sitting on my shelf and God help the poor sould that dares mess with them.

I fucking LOVED Sankuokai, man. I even had toys for both spaceships when I was a kid. Matter of fact, I had some fucking amazing toys back then, including these giant plastic versions of Great Mazinga, Dragun (one of the Getta Robo G combinations), Raydeen, and of course Gaikin (known to me as Gladiator). They shot their fists, threw stars, knives, etc. If I'm not mistaken, the toyline was called "Shogun Warriors" and even had a Marvel Comics limited-series, although with a different mecha line-up than the ones I had. Damn good times. Now If I only knew what the hell I did with all those toys!

We did have that Jiban show but I didn't like it. For those live action shows I was more into stuff like Ultraman, Ultraseven (my absolute favorite back then) and even the live action Giant Robo show.

I grew up in Ecuador, South America. We had TONS of anime shows when I was a kid, from your Speed Racers, to Kimba the white lion, to that Sawamura guy who supposedly invented kickboxing, all those giant mechas like Mazinger, Tetsujin28, and many others I don't know the original names (but will look them up on that link you posted), and those space shows like Captain Harlock (sp?), Robotech, etc. God, I'm fucking old.

If I'm not mistaken Robocop 3 was also written by Frank Miller. And yes, I'm also one of the few who also liked Robocop 2. But Lushus is right, nothing could match the first Robocop.

Please describe him to me as I may have seen him when I was a kid but under a different name, possibly because of his spanish translation. Is he the one with the lion's head on his chest and the huge horns on the sides of his head?

Seems there are more people that like Mazinger than I previously thought. For those of you I may recommend the Mazinkaiser OVAs from a few years ago. This is a return to glory for Mazinger pilot Koji Kabuto, after being unfairly demoted to piloting a fricking jet airplane after Great Mazinger and UFO Grandizer took over, in this out-of-continuity episodes he returns to be the true hero he deserves to be, now piloting the insanely powerful Mazinkaiser robot. The series is a bit more in the spirit of the Mazinger manga, more violent and risky than the regular series (Sayaka nude?) and features great animation that easily surpasses the crappy couple of last MZ episodes (the worst animation of the series, carried on to the Great Mazinger series as well.) As I said earlier, it is clearly out of continuity, since many main characters that had previously died are back (some only to die again in the last OVA, oh well) but I don't really care because it is truly a fucking great series of movies. I managed to get them in original audio with subtitles but there's the DVDs released by ADV a while back which have both japanese and english audio. Check it out if you're a mecha or Mazinger fan.

Never liked him that much but I wish him a full and speedy recovery.

Those are awesome indeed.

"Obi-Wan never told you what happened to your father." "He told me enough! He told me you killed him!" "No... I am your father!" Edited for exclamation points

Yeah I hear that, Vince will definitely never allow ECW to overshadow him. But, Vince also likes to make money. And from that perspective the way to make the most money is to make ECW at least appear competitive with WWE. It's not gonna work otherwise. They can still ultimately use it as a feeder type fed for the new up and comers to get some TV time, but it has to APPEAR STRONG at the same time or else it will bomb. I'm sure many have already stated this, but if this thing is a half-assed/watered down version of ECW it's gonna bomb (although as I've posted I would tone down some of the "blood & guts", but as far as the actual wrestling is concerned it has to be ALL OUT). It the emphasis is too much on the old has beens, it's gonna bomb (with the exception of the Funker, who I hope is part of it. I am partial to that crazy son of a bitch!). I know people have become disenchanted with what is shown on TV (I actually don't feel this way because I guess I'm easily amused/entertained. LOL!), and for the sake of the business this could be exactly what the doctor ordered if done right. From WWE's perspective, I see no hurt in at least trying it out, if it bombs, who really cares? It's not gonna cost Vince THAT much money (relatively speaking of course) to start up ECW again. He already has the ring leader on his payroll, he's got the ring (for ONS II), he has a decent portion of the proposed talent already on his payroll, etc. The startup costs and costs of running the progamming has to be small compared to the potential profit it could make. I agree with this. It may or may not happen, but if Vince allows Heyman freedom to present the product he wants then I see this as nothing but a positive thing. People complaining about this not being the true ECW because there won't be any Dudleys or Ravens or the like need to see that they aren't indispensable. Of course, this new venture needs all the help it can get from former ECW mainstays to get it going, but we can't possibly expect all of them to remain forever, or else ECW would stand for Elderly Championship Wrestling. They absolutely need to create new stars that represent the ECW spirit more than anything else. Violence, blood, etc. is all fine from a controlled standpoint but that's not what ECW should stand for. It should stand for exciting wrestling (not WWE style) with people that are allowed to go all out with their abilities but perhaps toning down the garbage style just a little bit for it to be mostly accepted by the mainstream. In other words, ECW needs to evolve somewhat in order for it to be successful. And as far as complaints on this new ECW becoming a feeding fed for WWE I see no problem in that, since this has always been true back years ago. Why wouldn't some ECW breakout star be allowed the opportunity to shine in WWE? There are some exceptions but I think most guys that went from ECW to WCW or WWE/F achieved greater stardom (and financial success) on the bigger leagues.

Thomas Haden Church cast as villain for Spider-Man
pochorenella replied to EdwardKnoxII's topic in Television & Film
It was dark and raining and that alley was very badly lighted, so in all the hoopla I'm sure neither MJ nor the thugs could make out Peter's face. Or I could say that it was just a movie device used to show that Tobey McGuire was actually himself capable of performing action scenes as Spider-Man, but I'll go with my first answer. -
Wow, man, it seems like that was ages ago when both Uncanny and (New) X-Men ruled the world. Now Marvel's best-selling regular series is New Avengers and has been that way since #1 came out, trumping previous champ The Ultimates. You can also follow the sales charts on Wizard magazine and diamondcomics.com, although the Newsarama articles have in-depth analysis and actual sales figures.

Awesome beyond all superlatives. So great that they upgraded to just one DVD-ROM instead of 11 cds like the Spider-Man set. Wonder if they'll re-release the Spidey set on DVD also? And when's the release date for the Avengers set? It's not listed on amazon.com yet. Can't wait to get that one and the F4 set. Only Uncanny X-Men issues here. No off-shots like X-Factor, New X-Men, etc., and no Age of Apocalypse either.

Maybe it's because I was there at MSG for this, but I thought I was about to pass out or something from jumping and screaming at the top of my lungs for Triple H to tap out. Truly the most mark-out moment I've experienced, surpassing my live experience at WMX-7 (we all knew Austin was winning at the Main) because, even though most signs pointed to Benoit winning, you weren't really sure they'd pull the trigger until it did happen. This is my choice. If you wanna go to actual 5 minutes-or-so matches, then you can't go wrong with the Owen vs Kid match from KOTR, as many here have pointed out. Outstanding for the allowed time.

Easy for me to agree on that, since Inu-Yasha has failed to capture my attention every time I've tried watching it, and Ranma 1/2 is possibly one of my all-time favorite anime series. In fact, taking Special K's example, let's see if I can come up with a top 5 favorite anime series (not movies or OVAs). Tough, but let's see: 1. DragonBall/DragonBall Z 2. Saint Seiya 3. Ranma 1/2 4. Mazinger 5. Neon Genesis Evangelion Fun Fact: All of the above I started watching in spanish, as all have excellent spanish dubs.

The first anime I ever saw? Possibly either Kimba the White Lion or Speed Racer when I was a kid, but neither made me have an overwhelming interest in watching anime specifically. The first anime series that had me crazy hooked on the TV was Mazinger. I don't know how many people here have even heard about this series. Hopefully this thread lasts longer than the last couple of OAO Anime threads that have gone the way of the Dodo here on TSM.
