The One and Only Raw Thread for February 27th, 2006
pochorenella replied to Art Sandusky's topic in The WWE Folder
Yeah, I find it funny too. But more than funny, I find it pathetic. -
Dude, the match is already on the "Rise and Fall of ECW" DVD.

Jesus Christ, what a fucking ego. What's so great about doing nothing different for seven years anyway? Boy, the Triple H Hatred is in full force lately. Could it be he's just talking in character? Nah, it's Triple H we're talking about. He's out to bury everyone just to spite the smarks and that's all he ever does.

Has the NWA Title (the TNA version) ever been defended other than in Orlando or Nashville? I know that it'll be defended at TNA's first house show, but really, come on. No fucking way that Title should be considered a world championship other than because of its previous prestige, which I think it lost quite a while ago. And isn't the AWA Title coming back too? Should we also consider THAT a world championship again 'cause it has the history?

I've never been much of a WCW/NWA fan so there's several matches I haven't seen, particularly those rare and hard to find ones. But I do have a few gripes, as Flair/Race I never got the appeal (for that particular Starrcade match anyway). The Rude/Steamboat match is great but I don't think it guarantees that high placement. Eddie/Rey might be too low but I agree that after you watch Rey/Psychosis you realize where they got the finish from. No surprise that Flair is the most prominent wrestler on the upper echeleon of the list, and if I have to venture a guess, then the Flair/Steamboat Clash match is gonna be the top dog. Anyways, I'm enjoying the list. Keep up the good work, slabinskia. Wonder what your Top 5 is?

One and Only Star Wars Geekiness Thread

I've always loved that artwork. -
Good for Helms. Hopefully that means a decent push and a long title reign.
-
Are there any other reviews available anywhere? I remember the strongest critique the movie/trailer had were the young-sounding voices the characters had. It sounded particularly bad for Captain America. Maybe there's hope for this movie after all. Although, save for the voices complaint, I didn't have any other criticism for the trailer.

Thomas Haden Church cast as villain for Spider-Man
pochorenella replied to EdwardKnoxII's topic in Television & Film
Huh? I thought it was a B/W picture when I clicked on the link. That's what you get for not reading the text... Interesting, to say the least. -
So AM RAW last week beat TNA Impact and almost matched its best rating ever. Not too shabby. RAW still in the 4.0s, let's see what happens on the final weeks leading to Mania.
-
TNA ratings have been compared to WWE B-shows like Velocity and AM RAW since Impact started on Spike TV, I don't know why you sound so surprised or upset even. And are you actually saying that a saturday morning wrestling show has more potential audience than a late night saturday show? And didn't TNA already air a show on Thursday night that ended with a 0.8 rating? I'm not saying that's what the show'll do when it airs regularly there, just asking. It may've been a wednesday or a tuesday even.

Found this on PWInsider.com:

Not a chance. He'll likely come in as a face against Shelton and calling him out for using his Mama to win the title and then they'll slap Haas/Carlito/Shelton/RVD/Masters/Kane MITB for Mania. So no IC Title defense this year either? I agree that Shelton in the MITB would ensure some cool spots and a great worker for the match but I think he needs to establish some credibility to his new Title reign and that means a title defense at Mania, and Haas seems like a good choice for it.

This is one of the most idiotic things I've ever read. What are they gonna do? Arrest me while I'm walking down the street listening music on my iPod? Stupid on so many levels.

Nice list, slabinskia. Of course there's gonna be disagreements from lots of people over match placings and omissions to the list. A couple of matches I've never seen, like the women's tag match, Savage vs Bret, and Steiners vs Money Inc. A few possible omissions just from the top of my head: - Edge vs Angle. They had a good PPV outing and some SD! ones IIRC. - Guerrero vs Edge streetfight from SD! 2002. Any one on one match between these two for that matter. - TLC II I found better than the WM2000 match, although I marked out like crazy for both. - Guerrero vs Mysterio from SD! This was a WWE Title defense that Eddie wins with a crazy pinning combination. - Shane vs Angle from KOTR. Terrific hardcore brawl. - Lesnar vs Benoit from SD! 2003. This was december IIRC and their only Title match. Excellent. - Royal Rumble match 2004. Benoit enters #1. Benoit wins. 'Nuff said. Other than that it was a great list. I love to read about this kind of listings even if I might disagree with something. Like, I think HITC 1 deserves much higher ranking, etc. But I can't fault the match placement. Good work. BTW, are you the same slabinskia that used to do all those comp tapes? I think I might have done business with you before.

And the Smackdown ME for Mania is...
pochorenella replied to Hunter's Torn Quad's topic in The WWE Folder
actually, this is the thread for that! I'd still like Rey Mysterio to win, but given the NWO outcome, the build and booking up to it, winning a 3 way at WM just seems cheap as opposed to a straight up one on one match with Angle AFTER beating Orton at NWO. People think JBL's rub was washed away due to one squash from Boogey, I say Rey was buried worse considering how hard he was pushed the past year. He comes out as the biggest loser and idiot ever. To me, it makes more sense to have a rematch between Orton and Mysterio with either Mysterio coming out on top or Orton getting a definitive clean win...keeping Orton in the WM picture just makes it seem like it was okay that he cheated in a #1 contender match. Well, Lushus, I was thinking more of an OAO WrestleMania predictions thread, but since you ask... I know this'll sound somewhat cheap, but I truly believe the outcome of this match (and the WWE Title match, for that matter) will absolutely depend on the placement on the card. NO FUCKING WAY WrestleMania ends with either WWE/World being won by the heel. I know it happened before. Hell, I was THERE when HHH retained at WM2000 and saw all those people pissed and shouting they were robbed. And I was THERE when Austin won at WMX-7, although that one still felt like the crowd favorite won. But I do believe that shouldn't happen again and I, at least, hope it won't. So, on that premise, if Trips vs Cena goes on last then Cena retains and Orton walks out with the Title. BUT, if the 3-way goes on last, and I have a feeling it will, then I'm inclined to say the feel-good, send-the-fans-home-happy result will be Rey Mysterio leaving Chicago with the World Title, maybe eben pinning Orton himself. I certainly wouldn't mind a Rey run with the Title, even if it means a short-lived one. The negative I see is that Angle surely deserves a long reing, as I think he's being pushed very nicely and doing a tremendous job with the Belt. Agree? Disagree? Comments? -
And the Smackdown ME for Mania is...
pochorenella replied to Hunter's Torn Quad's topic in The WWE Folder
To send no one home happy. Given the alternative, HHH as champ again? Cena is very much the lesser of two evils. I'd end the night happy if he retains. Cena has become so unwatchable to me that Hunter is the lesser of two evils. So, the fact that he's unwatchable to you means that no one could be happy with a Cena win? And wasn't the idea of a Taker/Angle match or feud pretty much panned around here? One good match and all of a sudden it's like putting the two of them in the ring together is a guaranteed ****+ classic. Plus, I don't think a 'Taker reign makes sense, and I can't see him feeling a loss at WM at this point in his career. I agree. I find it funny that just a few days ago some people were complaining about Angle vs Taker, mentioning their subpar performances at Backlash2000 and SSeries, completely forgetting their kickass SD! match and maybe a couple others, and now after the NWO match many are clamoring for Taker to be added to the Title match at WMania, not to mention several rematches with Angle. I disagree on Taker being added to the Title match, as it would no doubt mean either a Taker Title reign (which I'm not too fond of) or the end of his WMania streak (HIGHLY unlikely.) I think the 3-way option is pretty good. The winner? That's stuff for another thread. Where are all those Angle vs Taker haters now? Did they make a 180 and changed their minds or what? -
Finally got to watch the DVD after having it on my desk since I bought it on release day. I have to say I was pretty pleased with it, even if I'm not what you'd call an ECW loyalist. I've had more than casual exposure to ECW thru a couple of their original DVDs and some tape trading, and even if I already own a few of the featured matches from said DVDs or trades the only match that I wondered about its inclusion was the ONS Awesome vs Tanaka match, beign that it was so recent and I'm sure most fans already own it. But now I understand its inclusion, as they wanted to make the statement that ECW was still alive and well. I think the featured matches did deliver on the premise of being some of the most violent in ECW. Maybe there were some selections missing from what I've heard but with the announcement of a vol.2 coming out this year that should be rectified. Hopefully they'll include another of the famed Awesome vs Tanaka series, as I've only seen one of their PPV encounters where Awesome retained the Title. Again, I don't foresee anybody being disappointed with the match selection. And I was surprised to see people like the Dudleys so prominently featured after severing all ties with WWE. Thumbs up on ECW Blood Sport.

So, New NWA Champ Christian Cage doesn't wrestle AT ALL for TWO WEEKS worth of TV shows? Talk about an easy schedule. No wonder he wanted out of WWE.
-
FYI, Hogan's DVD Anthology is expected to come out April 4.
-
I second that request, along with the original Jeter vs Cappotelli OVW Title match.
-
Like I said, glad I passed on the previous version.
-
Just saying, this listing was already mentioned on the 2006 DVD releases thread. Maybe a Mod could merge the two.

Well deserved induction if you ask me. Along with the likes of Ricky Steamboat and Dusty Rhoads (if confirmed) should make for a star-studded HOF. How about also inducting Bob Backlund? Now let's speculate on Bret's involvement at WrestleMania 22.
