    WWF/E Tidbits from the past

I remember Bob Eucker at WM4 saying that he was happy that Vince called him and invited him to WrestleMania, and asking myself why would Vince McMahon call him since he was just an announcer at that time.

    Anybody Watching the US Open?

I also think Federer is taking this tournament, but I'd love to see Agassi nab one final Big-Four Championship, since he's always been a favorite of mine. So obviously I'm rooting for Andre to beat Blake, who I'm indifferent for. So how are the brackets paired up? Does Andre (if he wins vs. Blake) have a chance of meeting Federer in the finals or before that?

Comics books you liked that are no longer printed

I remember reading the Vigilante stories in the old west, you know, in those really old comics. I even remember this one story he had to do some stuff blindfolded, then other stuff without using his voice, and then without hearing. God, I'm feeling old remembering this stuff. Is the current Vigilante some kind of descendant from this one, or was the original Vigilante erased from continuity?

Any ideas on Brock to WWE?

Just my two cents on the above: Agreed on Brock vs. Batista. They should aim for this for Mania22. Should do good business. I loved Brock vs. Eddie. One of my favorites for 2004. I see no reason why it shouldn't do ok again. Brock vs. Benoit only happened once on SD! IIRC, and resulted in an outstanding match. Don't see how you could say it didn't draw, it wasn't on PPV. There was a very decent Brock vs. Orton match on SD! back when Orton was fairly new. Specially sweet was the reversal of an Orton bodypress into the F5. RVD had a series with Brock already, culminating at KOTR. Brock was very green at the time, so this could improve. Not sure if Brock wreslted Cena already on OVW. I think they faced each other on tag teams. Could be interesting. Brock vs. Edge was the main event for the Rebellion PPV in the UK a couple of years back, and i thought was a pretty good outing. I'm indifferent on the other matchups, but I'm curious what HBK could do with Brock with the proper build.

    Conan's In Teh Year 2000

I saw that, when was it, two weeks ago? I love that segment. Just watching Mr.T holding back the laughter was enough for me to lose it.
  9. Well, it seems sometimes we don't really give much value to the WRESTLERS opinions. Case in point: Everybody and their grandmother here at TSM adores Bret Hart. Yet, when he says the WMXII match is one of his best/favorites ever most people say he's out of his mind, since "we" think is a poor match (I like it, BTW.) Another example: Kurt Angle says his two best matches ever (I even think he said two of the all-time greats) are vs. Benoit at the Rumble (I agree) and vs. HBK at ManiaXXI. I'm pretty sure the latter is the front-runner for MOTY, but I've seen TONS of people on this board disregard that particular match. Ric Flair says Michaels is better than Hart. The smarks say he's crazy/jealous/whatever or he's saying that 'cause he's buddy-buddy with him. I'm not saying we should take their opinions at face value or that we shouldn't have our own. Just that we need to value theirs a bit more since they are the ones actually in the ring doing all the work.

Any ideas on Brock to WWE?

I can say that a lot of people (myself included) expected him to show up at SummerSlam in DC. A lot of us were disappointed he didn't, you could tell the crowd wanted to see him badly.

WWE news on the Ultimate Warrior DVD

Four. WMVI with Hogan, Summerslam 90 with Rude, and the two PPV matches with Savage. EDIT: Come to think of it, he had a pretty good champion vs. champion match with Savage right before WMV, so make it five. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Good to see somebody remembers this match from MSG. It was on a Wrestling Superheroes tape IIRC, and both Savage and Warrior did a great job. I also think the SSlam you might be referring to is the IC Title rematch from 1989. The WWF Title cage match was not that good.
  13. I agree about Shawn/Hennig, unless there was some other match I haven't seen. The Flair/Hennig match on RAW is better. If you're talking about opponents in common, though, then I could also ask you about what supposedly classic Taker/Flair match. If it's the WMX-8 one, it's hardly a classic, and Shawn had waaay better matches with Taker, including HIAC. Opponents in common could be a good way to gauge their abilities but there's really not that many. The Flair/Michaels comparison is justified given the body of work, the quality/quantity/diversity of opponents, and the years of work. Not to say I agree completely with it, even if Shawn is my favorite, but is not an insulting comparison as many would think it is.

    Favorite Rock Moment

I'm surprised nobody here seems to know about the 2-disc collector's edition of The Rock: Just Bring It DVD. The second disc is almost entirely promos, even some that were mentioned here as favorites like the Armageddon one, the one with the NWO, the KOTR one with Booker and Goldust, and the one with Jericho where they steal each other's catchphrases. Essential DVD for Rock fans, if you ask me. Anyway, some of my favorite moments: The promos with The Hurricane. The Rock and Austin singing together ("Margaritaville?") the week before Survivor Series 2001. The Rock in Toronto when he mocked the crowd. The Rock at KOTR with Goldust and Booker. The Rock being interviewed by Lillian Garcia ("You're wet... with perspiration.") The ones with Coach at WMX-8 and a live SD! edition where Coach sings "Copacabana." The Rock on RAW in a promo with Eddie Guerrero, he sings "La Bamba" with different lyrics. ("And shove it straight up your candy CULO.") The Rock was AWESOME.

Does anyone know anything about the

I don't think it'll destroy Rey's heat. But I agree it has to be done, since Eddie is supposed to be challenging Batista next and he needs at least ONE win, and a strong one at that.

Does anyone know anything about the

I don't quite follow that logic. Eddie beat Rey last year on SD! (back when Eddie was WWE Champ) in probably the best match they've had in the past two years, but it seems nobody remembers that, and of course, WWE won't remind you since for storyline's sake Eddie just can't beat Rey. I doesn't mean Eddie is less than anyone that comes along and beats Rey. Hell, Rey was beat last year by Chavo. Does that mean Chavo is better than Eddie? No fucking way. I know you mean just this year, but those are circumstances of the storyline, which is hated by everybody here but it's proven to be the most attention-grabbing ratings-wise. Anyway, I think Eddie finally beats Rey in the cage next week and moves on to Batista (if current House show programs stand.) Wether he beats Batista or not is another matter.

WWE News on Dudleys, Wrestlemania Box Set, Angle

All my Mania tapes from III - X are original Coliseum Video releases. Mania III has this big-ass rubber-type box like VHS tapes had back then. Mania IV is a two tape set with a pop-up Hogan mini-poster in the middle. Mania VI has this wider-than-normal cardboard box with a cool picture of Hogan and Ultimate Warrior.

Does anyone know anything about the

They must have had older ones they were trying to get rid of. I bought a souvenir program at SummerSlam and they had both rosters right, except they still had Hassan and Daivari and there was no Animal on SD! I think the first spoilers must've been somewhat mistaken on that regard. Look at the matches listed for Velocity, they're different than the other reports, and the latter two don't even mention this new Women's Title crap. Arguably the only decent women wrestlers are on RAW and Trish is scheduled to come back any day now. I don't think WWE is stupid eniugh to create this new title when the other is so wasted right now.

    PWI 500

I remember that issue. It really boggled my mind since I thought Austin was the clear #1. They argued that since there was no clear-cut decision for the top spot they would simply give it to the best technical wrestler in the world, hence they gave it to Malenko. From #2 on they used their normal criteria, which is accomplishments for the time period and overall ability. For this year I don't mind the top spots, but I'm certainly disappointed with the placing they gave Shawn MIchaels. I guess the time when he was injured was a big detriment since it is within the time-period for qualification, but there's no doubt in my mind that if you were to factor his performances for 2005 alone then he's the Wrestler of the Year by far.

    Interesting question via Meltzer

I'm more inclined to go with Hulk vs Andre as the most famous match, certainly for the mainstream and general population. Shawn vs Bret is more famous (or infamous, rather) to the wrestling public. I'm also tempted to place Austin vs HBK from Mania XIV high on the list since it got huge publicity at the time from non-wrestling sources, the involvement of Mike Tyson, and the highest buyrate ever at the time.

    Millar and Hitch's "Ultimates" Replacement...

Total opposites for Millar and HItch, if you ask me. I thought Loeb was DC exclusive? I like Madureira's art but I think he's too manga for this title. Guess we'll have to see some artwork previews to really tell. It's a shame 'cause I was liking Hitch's art more and more each issue.

    Vader signs legends deal

A Vader DVD? Never happen. IMO, Vader's US career was fucked from the moment it was learned that Paul Orndorff kicked his ass legit. And wearing flip-flops, no less.

Your favorite top 5 Steve Austin matches

    1. Austin vs Rock, WMX-7 2. Austin vs Hart, WM13 3. Austin/Michaels vs Bulldog/Owen, RAW 1997 4. Austin vs Hart, SSeries 1996 5. Austin vs Dude Love, OTE 1999 My Top 3 is inmovable, but the other two places are interchangable with Austin vs Angle (SSlam2001) and Austin/HHH vs Jericho/Benoit, RAW May 2001.
