Tombstone: The History of the Undertaker

That's 2 discs too many IMO. Is there really that much great Jake The Snake material to fill up 3 discs?? This is a definitive skip on my part.

What non Marvel/DC comics do you read?

I have the complete first run of Kiss: Psycho Circus comics from Image. Terrific series IMO. And also have the first two Kiss TPBs from Dark Horse from a few years back. Other than that, sometimes I get the occasional Star Wars comic.

Comics books you liked that are no longer printed

I really liked the Mark Bagley-era New Warriors, and the original Marvel Team-Up with Spidey and friends. Also kinda followed Rom Spaceknight but didn't read the whole series.

Comic news and review sites you go to

I like that site, too. That one, along with Newsarama.com are pretty much the only ones I visit.

Tombstone: The History of the Undertaker

I was really inclined not to buy this set because I'd seen pretty much everything that was on it, but the DVD picture-quality for some of the matches had me on the fence. Then I saw it on Best Buy the day of release and saw both the ONO match and the SD! match vs. Kurt included, and I saw the price tag ($16.99) and bought it right there. Funny what a difference a couple of matches can make on a comp. The one I wanted to have the most on DVD quality was the Ground Zero match, other than the two previously mentioned. I think it is safe to say that it's pretty much the best matches of Taker's career all included on this release. It won't have the same re-watchable quality for me as other sets like HBK's or Benoit's but still pretty good, specially since I'm not a Taker fan at all.

    WWE's PPV Schedule for 2005

I checked WWE.com for the PPV schedule for the remainder of 2005 and all that is listed is SummerSlam. I seem to remember there was a listing for all 2005 PPV shows posted around here, it even went as far as listing Royal Rumble 2006 for Miami, FL. I'd appreciate it if someone could post that list. Thanks in advance.

Which Marvel comics do you read?

I think Astonishing is a very good book. Whedon has great characterizaton, Cassaday is awesome, and we've had some great interaction with the characters. Definitely recommended IMO. I believe there's already a TPB out collecting the first 6-7 issues of the series, and I believe I've read about a possible hardcover version for the whole 12 issue arc. Whedon and Cassaday will be back for another 12 issue run, but the series will have a short hiatus IIRC.

What DC comics do you collect and read?

I only got both Batman Hush TPBs because I was really quite intrigued by the storyarc, and got the first Superman/Batman TPB 'cause I like McGuiness' art and the story was interesting until the end (which I thought was lacking) Any Supes title on my collection is a rarity. I'm borrowing soon the Identity Crisis mini from a friend so I can experience what the fuzz was all about, although I already know what happened.

    Sunny to return?

Sunny was my favorite Diva from those days, I liked her more than Sable, and I still keep those lingerie pics on my computer. I figure maybe she's using those pills that Anna Nicole Smith endorses. If you've seen what she looked like before (in the Anna Nicole show) and how she looks now, then it might not be that much of a stretch to think she could pull it off just like Anna Nicole did.

    Top 300 Comics for July

As you said, no surprises on the top spot. Everyone expected ASB&R to be #1 but I did expect a higher sales number, based on the star power involved. I figure AS Superman won't do any better. House of M continues to sell well, and I really can't remember the last time I saw Iron Man on the list. Damn it is taking forever for that title to come out.

Which Marvel comics do you read?

I was exclusively a DC fan when I was a little kid, but then I discovered Marvel and now I'm pretty much exclusive to them, except for the occasional read when I borrow some Batman stuff or the like from a friend of mine. Right now I hate Superman with a passion, and I couldn't even bring myself to contribute to that other thread discussion regarding his origin and Luthor relationship. I would've contributed nothing there. Anyway, on topic, I try to read as much Marvel stuff as it gets on my hands, but what I regularly buy and/or collect is: Ultimate Spider-Man Amazing Spider-Man Ultimates Avengers/New Avengers Iron Man X-Men Uncanny X-Men Ultimate X-Men I do try to read Supreme Power regularly, and collected the first 12-issue MK Spider-Man arc, and the first two Ult.F4 arcs, some recent Daredevil TPBs. And whenever the new Spider-Man series gets out I'll try to get.

Will one night stand stand the test of time

But that all made perfect sense within the context of the match and its build. WWE may spelled it all out wrong when they laid their cards out. There was a great reason for the initial turn and siding with his enemy that they just happened to have screwed up. Austin tried to play the one-upsmanship game with the Rock every week, and it just didn't work when it came time for the match. There was nothing Austin could do to win, to stay on top, other than to side with someone as powerful as McMahon, as diabolic. He was, at one point, Austin's peer (though on opposite sides) and Austin needed someone of that calibre to work with him so that he could top the Rock. There was no way around it for Austin by the end of that match. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I agree. I remember that face to face interview they had with Rock and Austin prior to the event, and Austin was very clear when he said he NEEDED to beat Rock, "more than anything ever" or something to that effect. You could say he sorta telegraphed it right there, like Vince did in WM2000 when he said "You want shocking? I'll give you shocking!" and turned on The Rock. Of course, at the time, I saw neither one coming, so it's all in hindsight now.

    SNME Comp I Made...Creative Criticisms?

That's a pretty terrific match listing. Specially fond for me are those Rockers vs Brainbuster matches, HBK vs Bulldog IC Title match, and the Sid/Hogan vs Taker/Flair tag match, which I think is a forgotten gem, if not for the actual workrate but for the people involved and the angle that ensued. Sorry to say I don't have the means to copy stuff at the time, as I do have a nice collection and would really love to have your comp.

    Favorite Gimmick Match?

I really like the Rumbles as well, and WWE/F ladder matches are pretty good more often than not. Statistically there have been many Rumble winners that drew #27 (I can't remember who specifically, though) but people that actually drew numbers between 1 and 3 there's only three winners: Flair, Benoit, and Vince (but I think this one doesn't count.) EDIT: It's actually FOUR winners for drawings between 1 and 3. Forgot Shawn Michaels. Thanks, ChrisM.

Will one night stand stand the test of time

I agree that WM3 had much better stories than X-7, without question. Many of the feuds for X-7 were extremely rushed, even if they produced outstanding matches. Like I said, maybe it's my bias since I was there and had one of the greatest experiences of my life. And add me up for the WMXX love. I think I've said it before but I'll say it again: If you didn't like the Eddie/Benoit moment at the end then you have no business being a wrestling fan.

Will one night stand stand the test of time

Yeah, even Test getting his foot caught in the ropes while Eddie Guerrero worried about what to do next in their match... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Exactly!!! I mean things to REALLY stand the test of time. WM 17 will for the Austin heel turn, but as far as the greatness of the event I don't think so. I'm talking in terms of legendary status. WrestleMania 3 blows it out of the water imo with Hogan/Andre and Steamboat/Savage. WM 17 doesn't have anything on there like it. The TLC match is even outshined by the match at WM 16 because it was the first. Angle/Benoit was surpassed at the Rumble a couple of years later(one of the few things that will stand the test of time actually which just popped in my head). <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, I may be biased since I was there live, but I think no PPV past or present can touch WMX-7. WM3 had that Hogan vs Andre match, while not a workrate classic, it had an aura and an electricity that will probably be unmatched, and the still awesome Savage vs Steamboat match. But I'm telling you, you could feel the building shake for Austin vs Rock. The crowd was so hot, and the match was awesome beyond all superlatives. Then you had Benoit vs Angle, that yes, was topped at RR2003 but in no way does that take from said match. TLCII was terrific (I missed those kind of matches at Mania, until this year's MITB), and the sheer spectacle of Shane vs Vince, while overbooked to no end, still delivered big in the fun department. So to me at least, WMX-7 lives on forever.

Will one night stand stand the test of time

I agree. I was planning on watching it again the other night and didn't for whatever reason. I've only watched it once, and certainly will watch it again, but at the same time it doesn't seem to have that rewatchable quality some other shows from this year like WM21 have for me. But you just see One Night Only being voted PPV of the Year on internet voting. It'll happen.

If Shawn Michaels never hurt his back

"Michaels Defenders?" Geez... Well, chaosrage already made good counterpoints but I figure I put my 2 cents in. Shawn was incredibly passe?? What were you watching? Shawn Michaels as the heel DX leader was absolutely the most over perhaps in his whole career. And he was still kicking ass inside the ring in matches like HIAC and his Rumble defense against Taker. And let us not forget the terrific DX promos he did at the time, like the twisting-knee thingie before the DX PPV. WM14 made the biggest buyrate ever at that point, but of course, all the credit goes to Steve Austin and absolutely NONE is given to Michaels. I even heard the argument that ANYONE could have been put in that spot and kept the buyrate. Yeah, right. Doink vs. Stone Cold at WM could have been huge, I tell you. Ratings were already steadily on the rise way before Mania, so HBK was also part of the uprise, even if he was not a part of the actual beating of Nitros streak. Of course, I could point that it also was a coincidence that Bret Hart left WWF and they finally beat WCW on the ratings and took the lead in fans preference, and that Bret Hart was key when WCW went down the shitter and made them go bankrupt. But God forbid I do that, else I suffer the onslaught of all the angry smarks and become banned from this forum. It was just COINCIDENCE. Like pretty much everything you pointed in your post.

If Shawn Michaels never hurt his back

No matter how many times I read these forums, I'm still amazed by the sheer amount of hatred Shawn Michaels gets from stuff he reportedly did over 8 years ago. Hell, he even gets blasted for stuff he hasn't done but "woudl've done without a doubt", of course because we know exactly how he thinks and what he'll do. Now, regarding the topic question, I'm more inclined to agree with Fook's scenario. A feud between HHH and HBK over DX's leadership would have been a natural progression, and I think the winning side would've still turned face. Fans even gave them face pops back in those days so that would've come naturally, too. Shawn also could've faced The Rock back in those days if he was healthy.

    What Title Reigns Are Better?

I personally prefer rather long-ish Title reigns, but certainly don't mind short ones if they're meaningful and/or memorable. For example, I may be in the minority here but I didn't mind Kurt Angle's 2 week reign in 2001 because I felt that Angle needed to beat Stone Cold for the belt, but I knew Austin would get it back quickly. On the other hand, reings like the one Randy Orton had with the World Title certainly didn't help him any and I felt strongly that Benoit could've held the belt for a bit longer, maybe even not lose quite that cleanly. Speaking of Benoit, his and Eddie's reign's were ok length-wise IMO, and they both had pretty memorable defenses on PPV and TV alike so, even if I was pissed when they lost, in no way do those losses dimminish the quality of their reigns. Now take Shelton Benjamin's IC Title reign. While I'm a big fan of his and was quite happy that he had the longest stretch with the belt since The Rock, I was kinda dissappointed in the quality of his defenses. He had a few good matches with Jericho and a pretty good 3-way match the night after WM21, both Title defenses. You can also count a good defense vs. Christian on PPV. But then his best work was the MITB match at WM and vs. Shawn Michaels in the Gold Rush tournament and neither were defenses, so I give him an average grading for his reign even if it was rather long. Speaking of long reigns, what do you guys think of Demolition's first WWF Tag Title reign? From March 27th 1988 until July 18th 1989. That's by far the longest reign in the tag ranks I can recall from any Fed. Maybe the Road Warriors on the AWA had a comparable one IIRC. Is that the longest one in recent memory? With the sad state of Tag wrestling (specially on WWE) it's highly unlikely this'll happen again soon. Terrific topic, BTW.

What the hell does "Orale Vato" mean?

That's pretty much it. You can also translate it as "C'mon, dude" or whatever other combination. It's basically to rile up the other guy.

Birchill called up? RAW worker w/ familiar role?

I'm impressed with this Burchill guy, but it seems rather unlikely that WWE'll let him keep the moveset, although it'd cool as hell if he did that C4 thingie on TV (it reminds me of a one-man Spanish Fly or that Flux Capacitor that Kazarian does, only not from the top rope) He could be a nice addition, if they don't make him go all chinlock crazy, that is. And tagging him along with Regal is terrific.

    Ultimate C**** S***?

I don't see a problem with an Ultimate Clone Saga on Ultimate Spider-Man. YET. IMO, the biggest problem with the [original] Clone Saga was that it ran stupidly over-long, because, make no mistake, despite all the hating you hear about it, the story did SELL a shitload of comics. Ultimate Spider-Man has been one of my favorite series of the past years. You can argue all you want that it takes Bendis 3 issues to accomplish what could be done in a single issue, but I think he truly gets what teenage Peter/Spidey is all about, and his reinterpretations of stories/characters have left me satisfied. And what can you say about Mark Bagley? He's Mr. Consistent/Relieable in an era where such terms are almost unheard of. What I figure this is gonna be (if true) is a reinterpretation, like almost everything that has happened in USM. There's no need/place for a maxi-crossover with other titles, and it'd be stupid as hell to strecht this for 2 years or more like the original, which I think Marvel knows all too well. If this makes an interesting or compelling story and has a decent payoff then I don't see the harm in it. But let me know when they come up with Ultimate Kraven's Last Hunt, and Ultimate Who Killed Jean DeWolff, and Ultimate Maximum Carnage, and Ultimate Assassin Nation Plot,...

    Michael Jackson

    1. do any of you like and still listen to his music if so how often Once in a while, but I haven't in ages. 2. what albums do you own and what is your favourite MJ album I own Thriller and Bad, both on CD. My favorite of the two has to be Thriller, but I've heard many say Off The Wall is his best one, though I've never heard it in its entirety. 3. What is your favourite song/Video of MJ I have a three-way tie with Billy Jean (the first song I really liked from him), Beat It (Toto as backing musicians, Eddie Van Halen on guitar solo, you can't top that), and Smooth Criminal. Also Smooth Criminal is my favorite video of his. 4. What if any dvds/tapes do you own if any (moonwalker, history etc) None. 5. have any of you seen him live (victory tour, bad tour, dangerous tour etc) Nope.
