I'm also willing to give it a chance. After seeing what Mark Steven Johnson is really capable of doing with his DareDevil Director's Cut version, I think he's a guy capable of putting some real comic book feel on the script as well as on screen. It's the studio that fucked up his movie.

I thought issue #2 was OK. Certainly not worthy of a 0, as that review suggests. I'm willing to give the series a chance and see how it all turns out after this first storyarc is finished before I give it a final grading.

Didn't Rey Mysterio wrestle with his mask when the RAW brand had that show in Mexico last year? IIRC it was a CW Title defense against Chavo Guerrero, who was the Champ at the time. They were on loan from SD! for that particular show. They had another show in Mexico a few months after that but I don't think Rey was on that one.

They don't remember HHH beating Benoit in his first match or that Edge and Christian are brothers, I doubt they've got a Tenay sense for back referencing matches given one is a lech who can barely remember he's at work and the other sounds like a senile football fan who calls every other move as a "sidewalk slam". That's a very good point. JR & King can hardly remember or reference what's happened a month ago, let alone remember from several previous matches that apply on a single one.

I don't remember anybody on this board saying something to that effect, but I do agree with krazykat that the match is highly underrated. I remember the thread it was discussed, some people complained that there was no death-defying highspot, a la Mick Foley so it was deemed worthless. Other complaints were the lack of use for the Cell itself as a weapon, which is not quite true, and the fact that they were basically selling punches as death. I think it's a good match, not on par with HIAC 1 (the best one IMO), 2 or 4(HHH vs Foley), but not the worst of the series as some would say.

I also wanted him to put over Jericho at Mania, but I could say the end result was a terrific match IMO, and that awesome moment were Jericho kicked him in the nuts after everyone thought they made their peace wouldn't have been possible had Y2J won. Shawn did lose to Jericho by submission on RAW after that. Still, it's not a Mania win. Shawn I believe needed something other than just signing his name in the contract to look like he belonged in the Main Event at WMXX, so he beat Benoit (after HHH distracted Benoit) and it created somewhat of an uncertainty who would go over at Mania. Again, the end result was a fantastic match, better than what people expected I'm sure, and I don't think it hurt Benoit at all that he lost the way he did prior to his big win. Hey, I was there at the Garden and rooting for Benoit with everything I had! Michaels pre-1998 history of booking domination is well recorded, but I've never heard of him doing it since his return. I could be wrong, though. But I think it's not fair to think he'll always screw his opponent to keep his spot. I also agree HBK vs Edge is not my ideal Mania match. I've been rooting for Angle vs HBK for a while and it almost seeemed true, but now it's unlikely. But I do think Edge and Shawn could put a very good match, and if it happens hopefully Shawn will put Edge over.

I just get annoyed at the insane level in which Michaels gets blasted around here, but everyone has a right to speak their piece. BTW, what was that other thread you're referring to? I always try to keep it friendly when I post.

Methinks the blind hatred/dislike towards Shawn Michaels is getting overboard here. First everybody was worried that he would mess up the Elimination Chamber match somehow, or he'd steal the spotlight, or he'd turn heel and help HHH, or whatever. He didn't do any of those things and everyone kept mum. Now the concern is wether he'll do the right thing and put over Edge or if he'll campaign for HHH vs HBK version 10.0. I'm sure that when/if HBK puts Edge over then people will come up with another complaint like "Edge should have DESTROYED HBK! Should've beaten him cleanly! Edge worked his back the whole match and he STILL did a kip-up!!" or something to that effect. I'm just saying let's see what happens and then we can start complaining wether Shawn did the right thing or not. Hell, I'm a huge HBK fan and I'll be the first to complain if he doesn't put over Edge.

I've only seen the match once, and didn't really like it that much. Maybe I should try and check it out again, but my mind is made up regarding HHH vs HBK vs Benoit as 2004's MOTY so it's unlikely that'll change for me. Also the GAB rematch I remember liking more, although I only watched it once, too. Regarding matches with DQs or run-ins, etc. being considered as MOTY, I agree with Muggy. HBK vs Mankind is my MOTY for 1996. Austin vs Rock from WMX-7 is one of the greatest Mania MAin Events ever IMO and it had that Vince run-in. Austin vs Angle from SSlam I also love, ditto for Rock vs HHH Iron Man from JDay 2000, which had the Taker run-in.

HBK has jobbed quite a few times at WM: IX(DQ), X, XI, XIV, XX (albeit indirectly). And that's just his singles matches.

When I first saw that match on SNME I just couldn't believe Lanny Poffo got a win from Hogan, even if it was just by countout. BTW, is Mr. Perfect smashing the Title Belt after the match also included here?

I thought he was asking for somewhat recent comics that he could get subscriptions, or I would have recommended a ton of TPBs like Sass did. I have quite a decent collection of them, including my latest one: Jack Kirby Visionaries Hardcover, truly a magnificent collection if you're a fan of The King. Highly recommended.

Supreme Power, although I recommend you catch up first with the previous two TPBs that collect the first 12 issues. Awesome series. The Ultimates vol.1 the whole 12 issue run you can also get on two TPBs or a single Hardcover. The new Iron Man series is off to a pretty good start. Issue #2 came out recently, you should be able to find #1, too. Terrific art, also.

I just want to point out that the much-feared Shawn Michaels swerve/Batista-screwing/Evolution-joining/Chrises'-betraying/spotlight-stealing did not happen at NYR. I believe it's fair to say he called it right down the middle, except when Edge speared him he got superkicked in return. He even wore pants instead of the much-dreaded three-sizes-too-small zebra shorts from Judgement Day. The smartmarks fears on this regard have been put down to rest.

Hope you noticed I was being sarcastic on my previous post. I totally agree with you on this, probably MOTY for RAW in 2003, although I also love HBK vs Y2J from WMXIX. Benoit vs Angle is my MOTY overall for 2003.
