Ultimate Ric Flair Collection From the Vault: Shawn Michaels Mick Foley's Greatest Hits & Misses Benoit's looks to be awesome from next week on. Rey Mysterio 619 is pretty good, too. And I also liked The Rock's Just Bring It (CE) and Stone Cold's What??

The HBK DVD seems to be an old Coliseum Video re-release a la "Stone Cold Said So" or "Undertaker's Gravest Matches". It's priced at $9.95 and looks like no extras are included. Too bad, I may be skipping this one. Edit: Greg Valentine beat me to it. The Eddie DVD looks a bit disappointing with all those matches from previous releases. The Rey and Brock matches I can understand, but maybe the SD! street fight vs Edge or some other Los Guerreros matches would have been better choices. And I hope the Malenko ECW match is not the same as the Path of Destruction DVD 'cause I already have that one too.

I have all those DVDs you mentioned. I didn't know they were underrated, specially the HBK one, which is full of terrific matches. Sorry to go off-topic, but it seems unlikely WWE would repeat those matches on a new DVD when they've been so recently released. They repeated matches for both Foley's DVDs because they were released so long apart. Ditto for the Undertaker one, which had HIAC that was repeated on HBK's release.

Doc Ock, Mysterio, Sandman, Vulture, Kraven, and Electro.

Hugo Savinovich and Carlos Cabrera. Use the SAP option on your TV and listen to greatness.

I've been following the daily box-office for the movie and I feel that the movie won't break $400 million. Shrek 2 (currently at $420 million) didn't open as huge on Wednesday and Thursday, but then it has smoked SM2 every day since, with very short drops (25-30% every week). Of course, Shrek benefitted from opening on May and SM2 on June/July (May's the best box-office wise.) Actually, I saw this sign when SM2 dropped 49% on its second weekend. Not bad, but not that great either. Anybody else notice this, or am I just crazy?

Never seen it, but definitely sounds interesting. Title please!

I really recommend the Spider-Man Encyclopedia Hardcover. It covers all major characters and story developments up until just a few months back and clear up where most of the characters stand at the moment. Of course, it mostly works for Spidey fans but is a good and long read for all comic-book fans.

Well put, Steviekick. Also, Mr Zsasz is not too far off. What works for one guy doesn't necessarily does for the other because each hero has different motivations, goals. So the best villains usually somewhat mirror that.

Somebody To Love, without a doubt. Of the ones listed, Bohemian Rhapsody.

Outside of four characters - Kraven, Venom, Green Goblin, and Doctor Octopus - Spider Man's foes look more suited to tangle with the Ambiguously Gay Duo. Check out the rest of these bad boys: Beetle (guy dressed in bug armor that shoots electricity) Electro (guy dressed as a green and yellow lightning bolt that shoots electricity) Shocker (guy dressed as a quilt and shoots "vibro-shock" blasts) Vulture (old "genius" - har har - who can fly around) Hydroman (guy who can turn into water) Sandman (guy who can turn into sand, manipulate his own density) Scorpion (green guy with a cybernetic tail) Mysterio (guy who wears a fishbowl and shoots mind-altering gasses) Prowler (former cleaning guy who shoots sleeping gas pellets) Rhino (giant indestructible guy dressed as a rhino) Lizard (giant lizard) Jackal (C-level villain who was responsible for the most inane 18-part Spidey crossover of all time) Carnage (idiotic second-rate Venom knockoff who was responsible for the second-most inane 18-part Spidey crossover of all time) Hammerhead (he has a big head) Puma (he has super-senses) Boomerang (he throws a boomerang) How this gaggle of morons compares to Batman's demented carnival of villains is beyond me. And what exactly is wrong with this bunch? I mean, not everyone can be a genius like Dr.Doom, or a demi-god like Darkseid, or an overall great character like Joker to be an effective villain. Batman's villains are all demented, therefore they're all better? Each baddie serves different purpose: some are intelligent, some are dumb, some have powers, some have super-strenght, etc. They've interacted much better with Spider-Man's character. He's struggled with them. It's not like he just appears and instills the fear of God in them. You're way off-base here, and are also dead wrong regarding the Avenger's gallery as well. Penguin stole some birds, call Batman! The Riddler left a clue, call Batman! Clayface has done...umm, Cat-man did..., Man-Bat did.. ., Joe Chill killed his parents, wait, no he didn't. Yeah, a bunch of winners here. Maybe MrZsasz can illustrate better the excellence of Batman's rogue gallery. How can anyone state that Spidey's (and the Avengers) galleries are the worst is beyond me. And hey, Electro's costume is COOL.

Man, those WON liks that Loss gave are just great! Meltzer sounds fairly impartial, although he does tend to lean towards Bret's side a little. To point out: - Bret has said on the radio show that Flair was so good he's not human. Now he says he can't work? - Flair never said Savage or Hart can't work. He said both are VERY GOOD, but not great. And that Shawn Michaels is better. Is "very good but not great" really that awful a thing to say? - He agrees Flair had no business stating the Owen/Montreal stuff. - He said Hart told him he agreed to put HBK over not in Montreal but in a Four-way in December. First time I ever heard this. Meltzer says that in next week's WON he'll tell what he feels is Bret's best carrying job, something Flair has never reached doing. Any ideas what it can be?

What the hell are you talking about? Spider-Man's rogue galley has been widely regarded for years as the best. They fit his character so well, they're mostly more powerful than him but he manages to outwit them somehow. They have a richer history with the character. Hell, even Doc Ock almost married Aunt May! Batman's gallery is a joke. Just because they managed to make the Riddler interesting with the latest "Hush" storyline doesn't erase years and years of mediocrity. Same with the Penguin. Catwoman is a non-factor. Two-Face is pretty good, and the Joker is awesome of course. Batman always beats them so easily is not funny. And anyone who even DARES mention Superman gets a free kick in the nuts.

Wasn't that Kavanaugh son of a bitch the one who messed up Iron Man with that young "Tony from the Past" crap? Fuck him, how dare he?

Bret Hart vs. Steve Austin (WM 13) It has too many things going for it that make it nothing less than a classic: workrate, psychology, excitement, historical value, a grand stage, etc. Although I prefer Rock vs Austin from WMX-7, which had all of those qualities, too. Eddie/Rey has too many huracanranas. HAHA!

I-m a little behind with my Avengers fix. Just read part 2 of the new Invaders storyline and the "Avengers Dissasembled" prologues from Iron Man. The previews on Wizard magazine looked pretty cool and at least 2 characters are biting the dust. Please remember to use spoiler tags here when discussing! Thanks.

Best Bret Hart World title defense
pochorenella replied to Australian Pride's topic in General Wrestling
I voted for the cage match, but it was very close with WMXII with me. Funny thing with that match is that there was a previous cage match with Bret vs HBK which was the basic blueprint of what the SSlam one turned out to be. Lots of similar spots and the exact same ending. Survivor Series 92 is a gem of a match that seems to go unnoticed, really, really good stuff. And the One Night Only match is pretty terrific, too. I never even knew it existed 'cause when I bought the tape it wasn't on it. Through PWI I got to know of the match and later I traded some tapes and finally got to see it. -
That's the most idiotic thing I've ever heard. I love T2, True Lies, Abyss, but this is unforgivable. Fuck him, indeed.

I cannot believe there-s actually people that advocate ignoring the source material. That would be a complete crime and a travesty to the legacy of one of the most beloved characters in the world. Look what happened to Batman on his latter movies, or what's gonna happen to Catwoman. You can't just slap the title of "Spider-Man" to a movie and then make a film about anybody but Peter Parker. He is the true star of the show, not the other way around. And killing off MJ? Ridiculous. Villians I can understand disposing of, but not an important character like MJ. There's no need to turn her into Gwen Stacy. Bottom line, the movie RULED because Raime stayed loyal to the basic concept of the Peter Parker/Spider-Man character, who's been around for 40 years and was portrayed the right way from the very beggining. That's what made him such an enduring character after all this time. There's absolutely no need to tweek him in any way.

Spider-Man 2 will make on Monday ($20 million) almost as much as what Fahrenheit 9/11 will from friday to monday ($21 million). Amazing.
-
Hey, I like that one, too! My favorite X-crossover ever, with one of the most kick-ass fights in X-Men vs Cameron Hodge.
-
Saw it on friday, absolutely loved it. Sam Raimi really gets what Peter Parker/Spider-Man is all about. Much, much better CGI that the first one (although $200 million budget? God...) and all the characters were portrayed really great, specially Tobey Mcguire as Peter, and the guy who plays JJ Jameson, HILARIOUS!! Will definitely see it again on tuesday or wednesday, and surely a couple more times after that. Don't understand why people complain about the organic webbing and then have the gall to say Superman II is the best comic-book movie ever. Hello? They kept changing all the guys powers!! They turned invisible, could shoot beams from their fingers, etc. SM2 is the better movie IMO. As far as trailers, all I saw were Catwoman, Anaconda 2, and the animated Xmas movie with Tom Hanks.

Not really a fan of most of their stuff, specially those awful "Perfect World" songs from that album. The only one I really liked was "Jacob's Ladder" (written by Bruce Hornsby, mind you), and although I never really liked "Power of Love" it kinda grew on me after all this time.
-
It seems you're using an oxymoron here. "Cheap" and "hardcover" don't really seem to go hand in hand. Is it really that cheap, since it collects about 6-7 issues only? If it is then I might consider picking it up, even if I usually stay away from all Superman stuff.
-
That seems likely, since Matrix Reloaded did $144 million on its first 5 days, I'm sure Spidey 2 will do better. Still, it's somewhat unlikely that it'll break the 3-day weekend record of Spider-Man. Historically speaking, Independence Day weekend it's not as strong box-office wise as it is on the month of May. At least that's what they say over at Box office Mojo.
