WWE General Discussion - February 2008

Rey's injured again? Little man is breaking down like a 1 year old Kia. Hey, I had a KIA Sportage for almost five years and had absolutely no complaints. I'd recommend it without any reservations. Really sucks for Rey, hopefully he makes a full recovery. At least we got to see him in action in Ecuador this past Tuesday.

If you want that one it's already on the Ladder Match dvd set, which is an excellent set by the way.

Decent match listing, although my first impression regarding never-before-seen matches would go to the HIAC match with Cactus and not the Hogpen match. That HIAC match is literally one of the most requested matches on DVD, even though it would have been a lock to include in the upcoming Complete Hell dvd.

The OaO Raw Is Taped thread - 11/2/2008

Rey's overness? Wasn't Rey getting booed like crazy before and after he won the title, at most places? Dude, were you watching the Twilight Zone or something? Rey was crazy over when he got the Title, and likewise before that.

WWE General Discussion - February 2008

Well, then. Might as well post my first-hand report for the ECW/SD! Road to WrestleMania show in Quito, Ecuador yesterday February 12th. Coliseo RumiƱahui was packed to the rafters for WWE's first ever showing in Ecuador. Somebody told me the building capacity is 18,000. If true then that was 18,000 rabid fans reacting to everything and everybody during the show. No pyro, which was a disappointment but one I can certainly overlook. The card was basically the same as in Guatemala and Mexico, with the exception that the main was a six-man tag with MVP, Bid Daddy V and Viscera versus Rey, Kane and Taker. No doubt about it, Taker was the loudest ovation of the night, followed by Batista (who seemed to be fighting some cold or was reacting badly to Quito's altitude) and Rey Mysterio (who also looked affected by the altitude, which is weird since he's wrestled many times in Mexico City). The win for the faces with Rey splashing MVP for the pin. Afterwards, Matt Stryker was given a chokeslam by Kane, a 619 by Rey and a Tombstone by Taker which sent the crowd home happy. Other results were Kofi over Shelton with his spinning kick thingie in the opener. Kofi was well received although the ECW show is not seen over here. He also was very cool at the hotel and took pictures with me and my friends. In what was one of the highlights of the night for me, Kelly Kelly and Michelle McCool beat Layla and Victoria when McCool gave Victoria his modified angel's wings-like manouver. Kelly acknowledged my "Kelly Kelly, Marry me Marry me" sign (I was first row seat 1) and gave me a hug and a kiss and posed for some pics which I hope will be on wwe.com shortly. Mark Henry over Jaimie Knoble with the bear hug in a short match. Finlay w/Hornswaggle and Batista over the Rated Rmy with the Demon Bomb over Hawkins. Afterwards there was a little dancing and celebrating and the crowd dug the little bastard's antics during the match. After a short break, we got Chavo over CM Punk with the frog splash after Punk missed a huracanrana from the top rope. Terrific heat for Chavo with chants of "Chavo maricon" (Chavo is gay) which Punk referenced on the house mic to a great reaction. Tons of chants for Punk, and in another personal highlight, he came over to me and hugged me when he saw my "Straight edge, drug-free" sign, and he also tossed me his T-shirt. Punk also got the crowd going before the show when he went to the floor seats and high-fived people. I also have to say how Chavo acted really uncool at the hotel when he saw me and my friends, with a rotund "NO!" answer when we asked for a picture. On to the aforementioned main event, with MVP garnering heat when he called us "Lima, Peru" in perfect spanish, also calling us ugly, dirty and a bunch of other great stuff. Similar with what happened with Chavo, MVP refused to have pictures taken at the hotel, with the argument that he "only takes pictures with women." Whatever. Good reaction for V also and Edge got some cheers and boos mixed. Thunderous ovation for the faces as I already mentioned, and with all the great reactions and massive turnout I shure hope they give us a RAW show in the near future. As it concerns me now, it's off to Mania in March and the RAW show also in Orlando. Overall, one of the greatest experiences of my life, regardless of match quality or lack of theatrics. WWE, if you're listening, thanks a lot and hopefully you'll return soon.

I don't follow the shows that closely but didn't Angle vs Cage previously headline a PPV months ago, also with Joe as enforcer? Am I missing something on why this is done again?

1000 Reasons why Late Night with Conan O'Brien

I thought his best time was 41 seconds. I saw him the other day and he did 40 seconds, barely missing his best mark. Did he do 51 seconds yesterday or is this a typo?

If you register on Ticketmaster they regularly email you with info on events at or near your area, and most of the time that includes preorder passwords and such. That's how I got the password for the RAW after WrestleMania in Orlando, so I already have my tix.

    Spiderman OMD finale

I'm not too keen on DC stuff so please somebody correct me if I'm wrong. Didn't this "mind-erasing" thing also happen in The Flash comics? I seem to recall that everybody knew that Wally West was the Flash but in some storyline something happened and suddenly everybody forgot or something of the like? If this is true then I don't see much reason to bitch about this since it already happened and to my knowledge nobody complained that time. Well, you are comparing two very different things. Wally's retcon was more a 'soft-retcon' than anything: It really wasn't tied into anything big, and the biggest effect was to change something which was relatively recent (his unborn children dying). Overall, it didn't change anything that was intrinsically linked to his character: At the end of the day, he was still the same guy, and it didn't have a huge effect on continuity overall. Peter's retcon is the hardest type of retcon you could get. We are essentially erasing 20+ years of continuity, eliminating one of the most essential relationships he has, negating things like "The Other" (Return of Webshooters, remember?), HARRY OSBORN IS ALIVE AGAIN... All of it is a drastic shock to the entire character concept. It's really not comparable. Well, I was talking specifically about the identity thing only, which seems to be getting about as much bitching as the other stuff happening.

and the reason I'll personally be buying the DVD: No Benoit Edmonton match, and no Benoit/Jericho vs. Austin/Triple H from May 2001. Those are to be expected absent. But no Austin/Angle from SummerSlam 2001? I thought for sure that would be on here. Great match listing, thanks for the info. Although that steel cage match for the Hollywood Blondes is already on another release and is not that good, they could've placed another Blondes match since they had so many great selections to choose from. I thought they mentioned Smokey Mountain Wrestling stuff and opponents like Scott Hall? Too bad his amazing 2001 run was not more represented but we know why is that. Also, it would've been nice for them to include his 2002 RAW match with Ric Flair or a WCW TV Title match, maybe with Barry Whindham. Either way, great list.

    Raw 1.7.08

Mmmhmm....so you happen to choose the one gimmick RAW out of the year (RAW Roulette, and yes, I'm aware there were a few other 'gimmick' shows, but you get the point) and base the opinion solely on that? In case you didn't realize, it's not every week that the females have a match with a bed in center of the ring, it's not every week that opponents switch clothes, and not every week where there's a strange bedfellows match (that's TNA >_>) where Haas, and Murdoch, who have no connection whatsoever team up. And I don't see how the JBL/Jericho stuff didn't build to the RR. Maybe it didn't get you, excited, but for a match that was basically over Jericho being pushed into JBL, they've gotta build it to a convincing 'hate match' somehow, and I'm sure this has done the job. I'm usually working on Monday's, but I took a sick day so I decided since I was home to put it on. I know that stuff doesn't happen every week. I didn't say the Jericho/JBL DIDN'T build towards RR, I just stated that it didn't do anything to get ME interested in their match, and I've been a Jericho fan since his ECW days. Raw is consistently bad. And your posts consistently suck.

    Spiderman OMD finale

Which do you prefer, his original vision of the twins being Peter's kids or the final printed version? The spider armor was torn to shreds during Civil War when Spidey was on the run and got mugged by the Jester and Jack O' Lantern before the Punisher rescued him. Spidey then ditched it when he went to camp Cap, but not before the armor relayed all the info about Spidey's moves and abilities to Stark's computers.
