Britney "Zones" Into the Record Books

Britney's albums are selling less and less each time she releases them. Her fans (read: teenage girls) flock to the stores to buy the records no matter what, but you can see her performance on Billboard's Hot 100 has been abysmal as far back as "...Oops I Did it Again" when it didn't even crack the Top 5. I believe only a couple of her shitty ballads have barely made it into the Top 10 since that time. "Slave for You" and her new "Me Against The Music" barely dented the Top 40! A far cry from her top singles off her first album.

    MTV's 22 Greatest CDs

Better than I expected. Nice to see Live and Pearl Jam on the list, but I don't care for Linkin Park or TLC or those rap acts, except the Besties. Weird to see Born in the USA but not Thriller. Those two were by far the biggest albums of their time.

    The Rolling Stones

That's entirely possible. Even Julio Iglesias is said to have sold 100 million albums worldwide, so I'm sure the Stones must be at least near that number, if not totally above it.

    The Rolling Stones

Ok, boys and girls. I checked my facts and I was right from the beginning. The last Stones' album to go #1 was Tattoo You back in 1981! It's also their best-selling album of the past 24 years at 4 million copies sold in the US. The previously mentioned Voodoo Lounge spent a single week at #2 and sold 2 million copies, tying 1989's Steel Wheels as their best-selling of the past 20 years. Bridges to Babylon reached #3 and only went Platinum, as did most of their releases since 1982's "Still Life" live album, except Rewind from 1984 and Flashpoint in 1991, which barely went Gold. Rock & Roll Circus from 1996 and No Security from 1998 (their last album to date) didn't even go Gold. And there's your facts. I knew I was right. Yeah! So most people care to only go see the Stones live than buy their music. Like somebody above said, maybe it's just 'cause they are the Fricking ROLLING STONES.

    The Rolling Stones

Not that I have reason not to believe you guys, but are you sure? I consider myself a Billboard magazine buff, so for me to screw up this facts disappoints me. I'm still gonna check this when I get home. If I was wrong then it sure puts my theory down in the mud, huh? Still, it's puzzling they don't sell that much albums.

    The Rolling Stones

That's truly an amazing figure. What I don't understand quite well is how different the Stones perform concert-wise and album-sales-wise. Their albums barely go Double-Platinum, if they even reach that. Most just sell a Million copies or so. Bad numbers for one of the longest-living Rock bands and truly one of the greatest ever. You only see huge sales numbers for rap acts or the latest fad band. They haven't had a #1 record in decades, yet 4 gazillion people go to their shows. Why aren't this people buying the Stones' music?

WWE DVD's for CHEAP (2/$5) tommorow

Damn, I already have most WWF 2000-2002 DVDs so I don't think I'll take advantage of this. I want cheap 2003 stuff.

    Has Benoit's time arrived?

At least a couple-months Title run like the one they gave to Mick Foley, which I believe was highly-deserving at the time, should be in store for Benoit. That's what I hope, and it would restore my faith in WWE that everything is not politics. *Still dreaming for Benoit © vs Angle at WMXX with special guest referee Bret Hart *

    KISS/Aerosmith Concert Review

Except that those people weren't girls. They were adults like me and teenagers that were having a good time with music they enjoy. I never said Kiss were the best musicians, there's tons of better drummers, singers, bassists, guitar players. There's probably some unknown blues guitar player that can play as I've never heard before. You like more "bluesy-jazz" music, I like more rock-oriented music. I'll agree "Jaded" is a catchy tune, and "Same Old Song and Dance" is one of Aerosmith's best, although my favorite is "Sweet Emotion". But Kiss has lots of good stuff, too numerous to mention. And their appeal is worldwide too, not just bratty little girls or idiots jumping and hitting each other on a mosh pit. I'm shure Kiss didn't sell 85 million records only because they wore make-up or smashed their guitars, right? Bottom line, you like Aerosmith better. Just try and have a good time at the show and we'll talk afterwards.

    KISS/Aerosmith Concert Review

I'm well aware of that fact. Gene Simmons has said so in numerous interviews. He's a musician but he's also a business man, wether you agree with his business tactics or not. He's out to make music and he's also out to make money. To which degree each only he knows. So, contrary to some other bands or artists, he's said in public he loves money. I believe most musical acts are somewhat out to make money, aren't they? It's your choice if you agree with his tactics or not. Personally, while I'm a huge fan - always will be - I don't agree with some of Gene's approach but I can somewhat see his side. So I'll buy all their CDs, DVDs, etc., but I won't buy their condoms or caskets. Easy, Choken One. I'm not out to offend anybody, so if that came out too harsh then I'm sorry... ...but if you categorize my absolute-favorite band like that, then I can't help but feel offended. You don't like them? Fine, don't buy their records. 85 million people around the world already have, and a few more still will. Don't like their music? Don't go to their shows. I bet there's lot of other places you can watch fireworks, fire and things getting blown up. And hey, you can also put me in the "over the top obssesive fan" batch. I'm not ashamed to be a tattoo-wearing Kiss fan. Tell that to all the people that on the same night sang along Kiss songs at the top of their lungs and later groaned thru much of Aerosmith's set. Again, you don't like Kiss music? Fine, I get it. You'll go to the show on friday and give us your report and see for yourself wether people liked more Kiss, Aerosmith, equally, or neither. I have no reason not to believe what you'll report.

    Best Aerosmith album

I vote for Toys in the Attic, with Rocks a close second for me. Their 70s stuff is clearly their top material, even if I also really love Pump and Permanent Vacation. So if anybody's guessing based on the Aerosmith/Kiss thread, no I don't hate Aerosmith. I just think Kiss is better. So hopefully it doesn't get blown out of proportion on that thread.

    KISS/Aerosmith Concert Review

You better back up your statements with facts, man. If you're just spewing out shit because you don't like a certain band or your favorites are being criticized then just shut up. Go ahead, I'll wait for you. I understand them quite perfectly, thank you. I understand them even better when they're singing Kiss' praises as one of their main influences and when they're covering Kiss songs on their live shows. Rammstein I heard very little, so I'm not sure they even sing in english or german. And I don't care. Kiss have changed they're set list each and every tour, even more so after each new album. They even played songs they've never played before on their Australian Symphony show. What they've done is play pretty much the same songs since the Reunion Tour with a few changes every now and then. And their stage show has been different each time, too. So, again, if you can't back up your facts then just shut up. I agree that's not Aerosmith's biggest musical achievement, but you have to admit that Aerosmith's biggest success has come after Permanent Vacation, when they started colaborating with people like Desmond Child. They never sold the insane amount of records they have until then, when they went more poppish, commercial, and mainstream with their videos, ballads and pop-rock stuff.

    Old school Marvel

Agreed on the B&W thing. The Masterworks Hardcover releases truly rock but they're expensive as hell. Barnes & NOble have exclusive sofcover reprints for the Masterworks collections but they only cover the first 10 issues or so, so far. Other Essentials to check out are Essential Iron Man, Hulk, Fantastic Four (Come on, Marvel! Is it too much to ask for a full-color Galactus Trilogy TPB???) Silver Surfer and the newly released Tomb of Dracula. Marvel could do no wrong back then.

2004 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductees

Here are the few that have sold 20 milllion-plus for a single release (in the US): Eagle's Greatest Hits - 28 million Jacko's Thriller - 26 million Pink Floyd's The Wall - 23 million Led Zeppelin IV - 22 million Billy Joel's Greatest Hits vols. 1 & 2 - 21 million So, it's Gold for 500,000 copies, Platinum for 1,000,000, Multi-Platinum for each additional Million, and Diamond for 10 million. NO higher cert than that. Also of note, multi CD releases count for double certification. Case in point: Billy Joel's GHVI&II is accounted for double sales. As far as who's got Diamond Cerifications, it's a bunch of people from Van Halen to Hootie & the Blowgish, Boston, Madonna, Led Zep, Springsteen, Prince, GN'R, and a lot more.

2004 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductees

It's actually pretty simple. Kiss has more albums than those bands you mention, and each album has sold at least 500,000 copies, which means each one has a Gold Certification. Now, bands like Aerosmith, Metallica, Bon Jovi, have at least 3 albums that have sold at least 7 million each (Multi-Platinum). So they have fewer albums but with higher sales. Kiss' best selling album is Alive! which has sold over 4 million US copies (that would mean 8 times Platinum since it's a double CD). Worldwide sales for Kiss stand at about 85 million copies.

    KISS/Aerosmith Concert Review

Went to the September show in Florida and the best thing that could've happened is that my friends went strictly because of Aerosmith but at the end becamed hooked with Kiss and had to admit they were light years better that Tyler and Co. Don't get me wrong, I love Aerosmith, specially their old-school stuff, but 9 out of 10 people I talked to at the show couldn't understand why Kiss was not the headliner when everybody knew they would blow Aerosmith out of the water. Pretty much the same set list for both bands on my show, although I was disappointed Kiss didn't play "Strutter." Aerosmith pretty much played all the songs I wanted to hear. As far as opening acts, we got Saliva, who were pretty good but not really appreciated by the local crowd. Most were still buying their hot dogs and T-shirts. Highlights for Saliva were "Click Click Boom" and "Always". BTW, Siv was the opener on the Reunion Tour. Never heard of them before or after that. Overall, tremendous show. I went home pretty happy. Tommy was a nice surprise (Ace is my all-time favorite) and a welcome addition to the band. Have a nice show, man.

How do you feel about JLA/Avengers so far

Quicksilver had the Cosmic Cube secure (it was the last item to be found) and that would have meant a 6-6 tie between JLA and Avengers, but Captain America and Batman figured out the GameMaster and Krona's game, so Cap made Quicksilver drop the prize with his shield, thus allowing Batman to claim it and win the game, which meant that Krona had to depart this Universe and go mess with somebody else.

    Ric Flair DVD

Well, you slapped me right in the face with that. Still, I prefer Best Buy, and I'm shocked that the didn't carry that DVD, they usually have everything on the very day it's released, but reading this thread it seems they dropped the ball this time.
