I think the book is written, they're just delaying the publication. At least I think that's what he says in the revised version of the Gunslunger(whihc is my intro to this series)

Forget it, I didn;t see the link, thanks man

If you could put up Ultimo's theme and the Hayabusa remix, I would be very grateful.

Okay, I amdittedly have come to the comic game late. I maybe bought one issue of Spiderman when I was a kid, and I read the old Sonic comic from Archie for a while, but I didn't really become a comic book reader until a few years ago when I got into manga via my friend who also got me into anime. Most of what I have read is old Marvel stuff in my library, but I've gone to Free Comic Book Day two times now(went two years ago, missed last year, went this year) and every time the Marvel books are printed on nice magazine paper but DC is on this cheap rough paper. Is DC in worse shape than Marvel right now and hence they can't afford the good paper? It doesn't help their reputation with me, certainly.

I think trying these kiddie comics like Teen titans is the wrong idea, because, especially with the look of Teen Titans, you run the risk of it looking too kiddy, and you certainly won't have people grow up with Teen Titans like people grew up with Spiderman or Batman or Daredevil. The story is too simple, the artwork isn't anything special(and looks VERY kiddy), so even if kids get into it they'll drop it as they grow up. Stan Lee never had to talk down to his audience, and I think that's the way to go. I could be wrong, but it at least FEELS to me like there are more people buying manga than superhero comics right now and maybe its because they don't try to talk down, and well, that grown up alternative just doesn;t seem as clear. Especially when you have like 3 Spiderman series runnign at the same time. I have NO CLUE what Spiderman I want to get itno. I once had a trial subscription to Ultimate, and that was all right, but there are otehr serious problems that companies are facin and well, maybe if ya'll could give an opinion on my ideas and we could maybe discuss other problems and ideas in this thread, maybe we can come up with some stuff.

If you have a soul, you'll like the Azu anime(ie I can almost guarantee you will). The manga, especially with the roughness of the first half of the first volume, is something you may want to thumb through before you pick up. Excel Saga is more quirky, and the experienc with the anime will be greatly helped if you are familiar with a good amount of anime(although the ADVid Notes help). Do not pick up Puni Puni Poemi if you didn't like the last episode of Excel Saga, though, because the concept is very similar(ie a lot of sexual humor). The manga seems to be less concerned with parody but its not your run of the mill manga by any stretch of the imagination.

I don't normally go and say "these are my top fav actors" but here are some people I'd like to nominate: Clint Eastwood Orson Welles Bela Lugosi Bruce Lee Jackie Chan Patrick Stewart Dang, I watch too much anime, if I think of anyone else, I'll add them later

Is western a dirty word for you? No, I'm a huge Marvel mark, but I don't know it well enough outside of a few collections like a few Essentials and Death of Gwen Stacy(which I did like quite a bit). Those and cartoons are primarily how I know my superheroes.

I have the 2 disc version of the Sci Fi movie, is it worth getting the 3 disc version?

The comeback was part of Hogan's gimmick. He fed off the Hulkamania to come back stronger than ever and hit the boot/leg drop combo. I think Terry Funk may be or may have been underrated as a pure wrestler because ket's face it, when people think Terry Funk, they think garbage wrestling, but Terry was a prettty solid wretsler even into his 50s and I was really impressed when I saw him wrestle at Wrestlepalooza '97 and he put on a good match. I think his match on the Flair DVD helps, hence I say may have been. Same deal with Al Snow. I remember he wrestled HHH back in 2000 and busted out every single way to pin a man possible to try to get HHH. Otherwise, I cannot recall a time he's been allowed to show of how sound he is technically.

Mordechai seems to be a decent fellow, and he has an interesting gimmick, but as people have said, this angle should've been built up, not just "I'm Mordecai, you are all sinners." Hopefully he comes back because he's a decent wrestler and willing to learn. As for Kenzo, well, I hope he goes into some Japanese garbage fed, because he's not anywhere near good, his gimmick is stupid, and I have a personal hatred of any WWE announcer saying the words "geisha girl" ever since the Tajiri/Torrie incident. Actually, with all the talk of a yakuza thing, I'd MUCH rather they use his wife in the role of leader ala Lucy Liu's character in Kill Bill. The yakuza gimmick, of course should lead to the obvious yakuza vs mafia angle.

But Billy Gunn has nothing to complain about. He was once psuhed as part of a very dominant tag team, was King of the Ring(over Ken Shamrock, for God's sakes), and has constantly had a spot. Holly never got any real kind of push other than against Lesnar and there he got his proper beatdown. Persoanlly, I hope they end up in IWA-MS or something and end up getting thwacked with light tube bazookas

Movies you wanted to see badly
Masked Man of Mystery replied to Vanhalen's topic in Television & Film
When Akira came out on DVD, I remember being SO excited because there were other people who actually wanted to see anime. Haven't seen anything like it other than when Spirited Away came out, but these were like, twenysomething seemingly normal guys who wanted to get an anime. It was fun for me as a big anime fan. If you recall, orginally the two dic version of that movie came in a metal case. I work at Best Buy, and there was one copy in the metal case left sitting in the back that was reserved for someone to pick up, but he never came for it, so I got it, caem home, and said "What the heck was that ending about?" I still contend that Akira is a huge disappointment and the whole "you have to think about it" is nonsense. It bwas a rushed version of an incomplete manga. Nausicaa is a far, FAR superior film that took the material of the first fourth to half of the manga(been a while since I read it, my memory's a bit fuzzy) and then put together an ending that made sense and set up Princess Mononoke, which Hayao Miyazaki did to express the ideas he didn't have time to do in Nasuicaa, and probably reflect the changes in his beliefs as time went on. Also, the Neon Genesis Evangelion TV series turned out to be a bloody SHAM. They rushed the show, and the ending ranks among the worst of all time. I've seen things that made me go "huh?", but that one really boggled my mind. -
Does anyone have any ideas, theories, etc. as to why NO ONE other than Tokyo Pop with FMW has tried to sell puro legit in the States? I mean looking at the board there are plenty of puro marks here, and this is just a small sampling. If people can release generic bad hentai and think it'll sell, why not some New Japan? I bet most of the people who go and watch Rey from week to week would like "Best of Jushin Liger" or "Best of Tiger Mask" By the way, is there an offical English spelling of Jusin's name? I've seen every variation on how to spell that under the sun.

The obvious question
Masked Man of Mystery replied to Masked Man of Mystery's topic in General Wrestling
There are distributors who clerly work for a niche. Something Weird is a B movie fan's dream company, and ADV is my idea of an anime company. They're run by passionate people who love what they do love and what they sell, and realise that they work the niche. I think that there would definately be a market for it and even if you haven't seen him if you're a wrestling fan most likely you've HEARD of the Great Muta, you've HEARD of Tiger Mask, you've HEARD of Jushin Liger and if one were to put together decent compilations or shows for relatively cheap, people will buy it be they puro marks or just fans of good wrestling or the curious person who wants to know why people ave about that dude in the red mask that looks something like a demon -
Which match got you into puro?
Masked Man of Mystery replied to Special K's topic in General Wrestling
I actually became a fan of puro by accident. My friend was goign to give me his tape of the first NWA TNA show, but he lost it so he got me the FMW Final Encounter DVD. From there, I look around for puro matches, shows, and Japanese wrestlers in general. -
The One And Only Great American Bore Thread
Masked Man of Mystery replied to a topic in The WWE Folder
I actually think Mysterio's mask in that shot is that dark rainbow mask he wears sometimes outsiude of the ring but usually doesn't wrestle in. Odds are he'll wear his camo getup. -

The whole idea of having to touch 4 corners guarantees that not much can be done here. Logically, they can't really go outside, and Eddie can;t go up top very well with his mobility limited. Only hope is for Eddie to slip out of the rope and pull something, in my humble opinion. -
What precisely are the normal fight rules for UFC ie match length and illegal blows, and on the PPV DVDs do you get ther complete fights?

Nausicaa of the Valley of the Winds by Hayao Miyazaki is a classic. I think they're releasing an unflopped version, so look for that, if not, get the perfect collection editioins. Also, Azumanga Daioh by Kiyohiko Azuma is very good(the first volume's translation in shaky, but about halfway through a better translated took over and everything is right with the world, with Yukai teaching English, not Spanish and all) and Excel Saga by Koshi Rikdo is also very good. Oh, and Dragonball(not necessarily DBZ, which came afterward) and Sandland are both nice Akira Toriyama works. Sandland comes in one volume, it's a short manga. You might also like GTO aka Great Teacher Onizuka. I'm not sure who wrote it though.

Couple of UFC questions
Masked Man of Mystery replied to Masked Man of Mystery's topic in General Wrestling
On Ultimate KOs, you don't, other than like Tank Abbot knocking someone senseless in 5 seconds or something, which is why I asked. Those DVDs really aren't worth it, even in the combo package, and the second one is definately worse because they waste time have Liddel and Mike Goldberg waste a lot of time saying very little. -
Seriously, that Battle Royale was the best part of the show. London was allowed to hit a few nice moves, Moore hit a nice headscissors, even though it eliminated him, and even Billy Kidman did well for himself. The other guys were solid, but not much anything special.
-
No, not necessarily. Throw him under a mask, or have him shave, and he'd look completely differant.
-
What about throwing say, Amazing Red and another, more solid worker like Jerry Lynn in a tag team so you have like a Hardy Boyz sort of thing going, with one all around wrestler and a spot machine?
-
The WWF always put the King of the Ring up as an idea to get a wrestler to be elevated to main eventer status. But among the last few Kings of the Ring, I thought things didn't work out too well. Angle and Lesnar worked out, but then again Billy Gun was the King of the Ring '99.
