I'm pretty sure he's never actually been named the closer. Dempster, JoBo (if healthy), and Hawkins (dear God) will battle it out in spring training.
-
Agree. But then, it's a well-known rule of physics that All Morning DJs Suck. Is Mancow a "DJ"? If he is, he doesn't suck.
-
I say "we" when we're winning and "they" when they're losing.

It is kind of ironic that both Chicago teams hit a ton of home runs, but didn't have anybody that got on consisently enough to make them really hurt. On top of that, both Chicago teams got hammered by injuries, and didn't have anybody in the bullpen to hold on to the slender lead provided by said home runs. Maybe it's something in the water? Also, the Bulls, Bears, and Cubs all had/have great defense and/or pitching, but lack on offense. That's fucking creepy.

What if I use the sun's reflection on my watch, to blind the opposing team's batter from the bleachers, such as in the film Bleacher Bums? Then am I not part of the team? What if I talk about an outfielder's mom constantly until I can tell he's distracted?

I'm reading rumors of a Sosa for Floyd/Looper trade; has anyone else heard this? Farnsworth might be involved too, or at least I hope so.

... are probably not the best bet. These people celebrated after 9-11 and wear Osama bin Laden t-shirts. Also, the reason the Red Cross is asking for money, rather than food, clothes, or blankets, is because like every cause they have, it goes to executives and whatnot, and then the money that's left-over usually ends up with Somalian warlords. Also, I'd like to know where all this money is coming from, when almost every day we're hearing stories about how we don't have enough money to get every soldier proper equipment over in Iraq, and Chicago still has toll-roads. And why is this woman who let go of her child being treated as some sort of hero? What did she do that was heroic? This isn't The Good Son or whatever with Mcaulley calkin. Discuss.

NFL- Packers (Favre, div rivals), Vikings (Moss, div rivals), Lions (div rivals), Cowboys (because they used to be a dynasty), Giants (Eli, Coughlin, New York), Jets (Pennington's a whiny little biatch, New York), 49ers (I can't remember why, honestly, I've just always rooted against them), Dolphins ('85 Bears), Bucs (obnoxious), Ravens (Lewis boys), Rams (ghey) NBA- Pacers (Artest), Lakers (Kobe, dynasty), Nets (Carter, Kidd), Knicks (FUCK new york, and crawford) MLB NL- Marlins, Cardinals, Astros, Reds, Brewers, Pirates, Braves, Mets (Pedro, newyork), Padres, Giants, Nationals, D-Backs MLB AL- Yankees (everything about them), White Sox (their fans for the most part are obsessed with the Cubs, and reside in places such as Joliet) NHL- whatever teams are in New York, I don't even watch hockey

I was kind of an unhappy child growing up, and could identify with underdogs. A lifelong fan of Spider-Man (the original underdog if there ever was one) comic books, and some time in the mid-90s I overheard some kid bragging to some other kid about how much better the White Sox were than The Cubs, so I just immediately decided I was a Cubs fan. I didn't really get into sports until 1998, with the Sosa/McGwire HR chase, when I was like 12 years old, and since the Red Sox were pretty good that year too I found out that they're kinda like the Cubs with that long World Series drought, so that's why I cheer for the Red Sox, and I despise the Yankees. I guess this whole underdog thing also explains why whenever there are two teams I don't have a reason to care about playing on TV, I cheer for the underdogs, and why I said last year that when the Cubs win World Series Game 7, I want Rusch to get the W and The Bako to get the game-winning hit. The Bulls and Bears are just because they're local teams.
-
Cubs sign some reliever who sucks and another one I never heard of. Actually they're both guys I never heard of. Dodgers sign The Bako.
-
That fifth guy.... who the fu...?
-
The whole point in trying to trade Sosa was to sign Beltran, but now it's too late, so we might as well keep him with this being his contract year and all.
-
Well, since nobody ever posts in this thread anymore, I guess I'm left with the unenviable task of reporting Beltran will go to the Mets, which means I'll be hopping on the Ordonez (Maggs, not Rey) BandWGN. Also, is there any truth to the rumor that The Rox are looking to trade Helton? Supposedly their GM is looking at 2005 as a rebuilding year, and then returning to contention in '06, and Helton's ginormous contract might get in the way of that. Thus I propose (stole) this trade idea: Derrek Lee for Helton, with Colorado eating the "back end" of Helton's contract. Those quotations are there in case you didn't believe me when I told you I stole this idea. So here's my new lineup: Patterson Nomar Maggs (if he's healthy) Ramirez Helton So-So (also known as SamME) Walker Barrett Big Z (just cause I miss watching him pitch) So what do you guys think?
-
The Cubs have reportedly made Beltran an offer of 5-6 years, around 15 mil a year.
-
I think the 5/75 is just an initial offer, and Hendry and Boras will do some negotiating this week, obviously.
-
According to Bruce Levine of ESPN Radio, the same guy who first said the Yankees are out of it, the Cubs are about to offer Beltran 5/75, and will be meeting with Boras (with Beltran?) sometime in the next couple days. If the Cubs sign Beltran, expect me to change my signature. If the Cubs sign Burnitz, expect me to kill myself.
-
Hawkins shouldn't be the closer this year. Rothschild and Hendry are supposedly both confident in Dempster, and assuming Borowski's healthy, the two of them will battle it out for that role in spring training. Hawkins as a set-up guy > Hawkins as closer.
-
Probably watch some TV, surf the net, go to bed around nine.
-
How about this lineup for the Cubs next year? LF Patterson, .270, 29 SBs, 22 HRs SS Garciaparra, .293, 90 R, 77 RBIs CF Beltran, .270, 35 HR, 110 R, 35 SB 3B Ramirez, .295, 37 HR, 111 RBIs RF Sosa, .262, 34 HR, 177 Ks 1B Lee, .288, 30 HR, 99 RBIs 2B Walker, .277 C Barrett, .275 If we trade Sosa, it'll probably be a Holla/Dubois platoon in Left, and Patterson in Right. And a starting rotation of Wood, Prior, Zambrano, Maddux, and Rusch? Last year we just missed the playoffs by 3 games. This year we can't POSSIBLY (knock on wood) have as many injuries, and we've got Nomar and Walker for a full year, SoSo can't do much worse and even if he does Dusty won't leave him in the 3-4 spots any longer, and Barrett, Patterson, and Big Z should each be a year better now. Plus Beltran.
-
Apparently Bruce Levine on WMVP in Chicago saying it (that the Yanks are backing off of Beltran)...any confirmation from Chicago-area TSMers would be appreciated. As for now, I take it with a grain of salt. That (if true) would mean the Cubs, Astros, Mets and Tigers (!!!) would be the remaining suitors. It'll be down to the Mets and Astros unless the Cubs get rid of Sammy So-So. I didn't hear this myself, but I'm seeing it on all the Cubs message boards.

Sandy Krum, former assistant athletic trainer to Dave Groeschner, who was fired in November is suing for wrongful termination. He says that Groeschner was not officially licensed to be a trainer in the state of Illinois, and that Groeschner made some decisions which possibly had huge effects on the Cubs season, and caused players to be out much longer than they would have. All Cubs fans remember the countless injuries that were always thought to be like a week, then two weeks, then a month, etc. Krum says he brought this to the attention of Jim Hendry when inspectors were at Wrigley investigating the falling concrete, as he realized the whole operation could be shut down if one of those inspectors just happened to ask for a license. Krum claims he's a lifelong Cubs fan, and was looking out for the Cubs' best interests when he brought this to Hendry. Supposedly he brought Hendry a list of 40 things Groeschner could have done better, but Hendry ignored him. Krum believes Groeschner was fired for those things, and that Krum was fired for "being a whistleblower."

So is it true that today is the last day for a team to sign back their own free agents without offering arbitration? Like, the last day for Boston to sign Pedro and Varitek? The last day for Houston to sign Beltran? The last day for my Cubs to sign Walker and Nomar?
-
The guy in the black's probably going to sue Artest for millions, since we all know that he didn't do anything.
-
This ends after the Sunday night games so we can get to Monday-Sunday weeks rather than Tuesday-Monday which make no sense. Now can somebody tell me how much longer the NBALP free preview lasts?
