Prior comes back to the same shit as last year. Lack of offense, and the bullpen can't hold down a lead. Patterson gets booed going 0-2, then has a standing ovation for being walked, then goes 0-2 again, including popping up with the tying run on third and everybody cheering and chanting his name. He then gets booed some more. He's oh for his last eight right now. According to Morrisey in the Chicago Tribune, Corey couldn't draw a walk with a crayon and a piece of paper, and referring to those face-high fastballs Corey just loves to swing at, "you'd need a cherrypicker to hit those balls." So let the losing streak continue, two games in a row where Hollandsworth has had the lone RBI, and two games in a row Borowski blows a save against the Pirates.

Oh, and does this lineup seem a little suspect to anyone else? Walker Lee Patterson Alou Ramirez Hollandsworth Barret Ordonez Prior I still can't wait.

Did anyone see this on the news? It looked like he was faking to me.

In my hometown, it was definitely high school football. My school was right down the street from our biggest rival, and every year we'd have the "Sauk Trail Superbowl." For my city, Chicago, I think it goes Bears, Cubs, Bulls, Sox, Blackhawks, although for the better part of the nineties it was The Bulls on top.

Some kid passed out. He looked like a geek. There are LAYERS to this story!

I hardly see how this thread is more important than my thread about the little weiner who passed out at the spelling bee. Everybody go post there.

He was booed all day today, and went 0-4.

Alright, I guess I see what you guys are saying about Farnsworth's pitch, but when I saw the replay, it definitely looked to me like Lee's foot was down, and I mean that, all homerism aside. And I guess what's most frustrating about Corey Patterson is how good he was last year, until he got injured, and I suppose I was expecting that same greatness again this year. Oh, and here's a little C-Pat quote from Suntimes.com, regarding last night's incidents of failure... ''One thing about myself, I'm never going to apologize for being aggressive,'' Patterson said. ''Yeah, I went out of the zone. I know I can do better, but I'm never going to apologize for being aggressive. I'd rather swing at a ball in the dirt or outside the zone than take one down the middle. Wouldn't common sense dictate to swing at a ball down the middle and take a ball in the dirt? ''I didn't change nothing in my last at-bat from my first three at-bats and I got a base hit. It's not like I'm hitting .180 or .150. I'm just a couple big games away from turning things around. Should I be playing better? Absolutely. Every pitch is a learning experience.'' Who knew hitting .250 was so great? Some fast research on my part turns up that he actually is hitting .147 with runners in scoring position. And contrast that to Lee, who is also playing below expectations and also had a chance to drive in runs with the bases loaded: ''All I got to do is hit a fly ball to the outfield and I couldn't,'' Lee said. ''I'm just not getting the job done right now. I don't know what the reason is. Maybe I am pressing. I'm not playing the way I should. I've got to do a better job.'' Now Patterson, compared to Lee, just sounds like a dick.

Really, it was tied until that terrible call made by the first-base umpire, but anyways I expect Corey to be the new Alf in terms of fan reception. And tomorrow Clemens gets his first loss. You heard it here first, but in case it doesn't happen, I'll just pick out some obscure moment from the game and say that's why.

What the hell was that?!

Manny's up again, on this, his yadda yadda yadda.

In a park where both bullpens are located in center field, there is nothing more comical than a benches clearing incident which occurred both yesterday and today. They run all the way from the bullpens side-by-side, not saying a word, then stand around yelling at each other once they arrive at the source of the problem. Hilarious. And Lloyd McClendon's bobblehead was pretty fucking classic, too.

Chong, I have to agree that this is ridiculous. I've been a fan since 98, when Sosa was hitting all those home runs and the development of Kerry Wood, and I'll never give up on this team. But this weekend it just really hurts to watch them play, when two years ago, the same games, against the same teams, I could just shrug it off and say "maybe tomorrow," after every single game, until it became you guessed it, "maybe next year," but this was supposed to BE next year! That said, we'll get 'em tomorrow for sure, and take two of three from The Stros, and sweep the Buccos at Wrigley next week, with Prior's first win of the year! I can feel it!

My mom and I met Ronny WooWoo in the rightfield bleachers, and we each shook his hand. That is cooler than anything any of you can say.

When I was like 10, my Aunt asked me if I'd take my cousin to some dance just so she wouldn't have to go alone, and I was like, "yeah, GOODBYE!" In retrospect it might have been fun.

What college are you going to next year?: Prairie State, or as it is affectionately referred to in these parts, Harvard on Halstead, the finest school in all Chicago Heights. What's your major?: Some sort of English, I'd presume. Are you commuting or staying on campus?: Driving the ten minutes from my house each day. If not college, what are you going to do?: Did you get any awards/scholarships?: Nope.

I'm contemplating shaving my head.

I was thinking about doing this, too, just because I never know what to tell the haircut lady, but when I was a little kid I was a pale little white boy, but after growing and spending lots of time at the beach, I've gotten a nice tan that occassionally even sticks around during winter. My question to you is won't the top of my head still be pale, thus in contrast to the rest of me? -
Terrible, terrible night last night. Just terrible.

Larry Rothschild's got to be the best pitching coach.

So of course with Prior coming back, we're now gonna be without Wood. Substitute one ace for another. Prior IS still expected the first weekend of June, against the Pirates, right? No surprise setbacks there?
-
Kerry Wood was feeling more pain last night, and is going for a bone scan this morning. FUCK. Although, according to Hendry and Rothschild, both of whom have become very suspect in my mind, this is just some minor thing, and they told Wood to tell them if he felt anything at all during his simulated game. Sosa and Prior both expected back next week. Excellent. And finally, what the hell is up with the Cincinatti Reds?
