The official Dawn of the Dead 1979/2004 thread

I'd at least like some unsettling images and not be laughing my ass off with the entire theater at the scenes. I've seen quite a few films that gave me that unsettling feeling but this movie didn't even come close to making me feel like that. "Dawn of the Dead" the original wasn't scary but it did have some "awww man, that's just not right!" feelings while this one just didn't bring that to the table. At least with "Shaun of the Dead" I'll know I'm walking into a comedy. Christ, "Resident Evil" had a few moments of unsettling or surprise. The surprises in this one were just tainted or laughable. I mean, the zombie baby looked sorta like that damn thing from "Total Recall" only with a "HUG ME" pose. It was silly and entertaining but not what I want from a zombie movie. I want some zombies shredding flesh, I want to watch a human ripped apart by the undead, I want to see some zombies EATING a human. Sadly, I blame the MPAA for this but RE had some of those elements which gave it the unsettling feel. Scared, not since I was 8 and that was the damn "Thriller" video (wait, zombies DANCE?!?! NOOOO, ARRRRHHHH!). But unsettled, I've seen a few films that present that feeling. "Dawn" was a decent film for what it was, but it wasn't a horror or a thriller. It was an over the top action comedy which I'm fine with. It served it's purpose of making me laugh and keeping me happy.

    Weekend Boxoffice Report

"Hulk 2" will be made but it will not be like the original HULK in any shape or form. The studio was not happy with the film and most of the actors don't want to have any part with the sequel. Right now Hulk 2 will have half the budget (meaning no CGI Hulk), Ang Lee more than likely will not be back, Eric Bana and Jennifer Connelly don't want to come back, writers haven't been assigned to the project, the studio is in no rush to begin the project and basically it's a mess. I admire what Lee tried to do, but the final fight was a laughable Power Rangers ending and the film's main fight scenes looked like they were lit by a lantern. If Hulk 2 happens, look for it to be "HULK SMASH".

    Lottery news

Brock called his damn football coach and wrestling coach and they broke the story that he was leaving. It wasn't the "sheets" or the guys in the back, Brock broke the story himself to feel out interest. Punishing the other wrestlers because Brock broke a story about himself is fair? But it doesn't matter. If the wrestlers wanted to do something, they would just do a massive walkout before RAW and SMACKDOWN tapings. Until they stand up for themselves, I can't bring myself to care about their gripes. Vince is basically saying "Yeah, and what are you going to do about it?" and they just sit back down and sulk.

    Steve Austin arrested again

Rocky has always been protective of his dad and his dad's image. And if I remember, he went into counceling for it as part of a deal with Miami University that he made. I'm still wondering if Austin changed anything about his life after what he did to Debra.

    Oh, My...Re-Re Wrestling

Has anyone BEEN to the OVW site lately?? Alexis Laree's picture looks like a damn mug shot of a woman who tried to rob a Walmart. And isn't Nick Dinsmore just...Nick Dinsmore? Matt Weiss is Horshu
  7. Because that just goes without saying. Rose McGowan in a parka and tight sweater, Ben Affleck as a ex FBI agent/small time sheriff, Peter O'Toole as a tabloid reporter who turned out to be right, Liev Schreiber as well Liev and BO HOPKINS all in the same movie. How could it not be good? Phantoms was just the bomb overall, yo! But Affleck WAS the bomb in Phantoms, yo

    Encore presentation of RAW

Uh, the Raw replay tonight is after Heat. A few people suggested cancelling HEAT to show a weekly RAW replay - he was responding to them. Thank you Bravesfan I don't mind it as a before or after HEAT, but no way should HEAT be cancelled for it.

    Oh, My...Re-Re Wrestling

So, when does Nick get blamed for the character not getting over and get his release? First they make him "Doink" and now they do this to him. Who did he piss off? Did he make fun of Triple H while in OVW???

    Weekend Boxoffice Report

Opening weekends usually aren't what decide whether a sequel will be made, it's the second weekends that usually decide that. Opening weekends get the talks started but those talks have already started on Scooby 3 So sadly, I think "Scooby 3" was already in production and if the Scooby movie holds even 15-20 million next weekend then Scooby 3 will begin.

    Weekend Boxoffice Report

Damn, "Dawn" fell hard. It needs three mill to make it all back so it'll be profitable by far. Good, hopefully "RE2" does good as well and some more interesting zombie films can be made. "Never Die Alone" did decent, "Jersey Girl" was solid and "Sunshine" held well. Will be interesting to see how well the three small release do next week with "Walking Tall" and "Hellboy" Plus it'll be fun to see if "Hellboy" can top "Passion" for a weekend.

Didn't Maria's ass get shot at the end of GTA3? I could have sworn he shot her for not shutting up.

    Encore presentation of RAW

Cancel HEAT??? So what, you have ONE show to showcase the whole RAW roster? Personally I think it's stupid to replay RAW in the HEAT slot, it just eliminates a chance for the guys on HEAT to get the little tv time they could get.
  14. Yes, he is happy. He opened in 1500 theaters going against Bennifer backlash and still pulled in his 8-11 million opening that he expected to get. And believe it or not, he NEVER expected the film to top J&SBSB numbers for an opening. Why would you think Smith, who has never seen an opening over 11 million, would be upset when John Woo barely pulled 15 million with Ben in almost twice the theaters? It'll make back it's budget, probably end up somewhere between 35-40 million total to make it his highest grossing film and the DVD sales will be excellent because rabid Smith fans will want to keep their collection up to date. If the film opened in 2500 and only got 8 million, then yeah he'd be disappointed. But he has nothing to be disappointed about. Hell, a movie with super draw Tom Hanks only got 15 million off the same number of theaters so even getting within 50% of a Tom Hanks opening is a positive. The only way this movie would have been considered a bomb is if it loses more than 60% next weekend with the theater increase or had opened with 4 million this weekend. Otherwise, the film is a slow build hold on while it increases the theaters. And the Green Hornet is a stupid project no matter who writes it.

The official Dawn of the Dead 1979/2004 thread

Muscles rot while the body is in the ground. I won't dispute the fast moving zombies of people just dead because the muscles are still intact. The main dispute would be the ones in the ground but that's impossible to complain about with the new Dawn since they all seem to be freshly dead. I let go of the fast zombies deal when I saw how fast they come back from the dead in the new Dawn. The only thing I laughed at with the fast zombies was the zombies acting like they were in Chariots of Fire with the leg kicks and arms swinging. It looked like the T-1000 had died and come back as a zombie.
  16. In order: Clerks made 3 million with an opening of 236,000 but was only in like 90 theaters when it was at it's widests Mallrats made 2.2 million with an opening of 1.1 but never got above 900 theaters. Chasing Amy finished with 12 million with an opening weekend of 1.6 million but it never got above 600 theaters. Dogma made 30.6 million with an 8.7 million opening off about 1300 theaters. Jay and Silent Bob got 30 million with an 11 million opening and an open of above 2,500 theaters. So this film is even with the Dogma opening of 8 million.
  17. The movie did what it was expected for the number of theaters it was in. 8.3 million with a average of $5,463 is a solid opening, not outstanding but solid for the number of theaters. The test will be how it does next week with the 200 theater expansion and the week after that when it hits 2000. The movie will still get somewhere between $30-35 million which is what all of Kevin's top movies got. It's a cute movie, that's about it. It's not a romantic comedy and it's not Jay and Silent Bob, but it's a cute film nonetheless. It's about where I expected it to be and if anyone expected more than 10 million then they were kidding themselves.

    Brock the football player

Umm...Have you SEEN Kurt Angle in the last 4 years? He's Juiced. Guess what? So is Eddy. Eddie was big as a damn house before he was fired awhile back. He came back much smaller than when he was fired but their was a point I would have said Eddie was juiced. Now? Not so sure.

    Santa's Slay...

The WWE didn't put any money into this thing did they??? Cause if they did, I'm curious to know how much they'll lose and how many people will be fired.

    WWE Talent Pool

This roster is a perfect example why they need a third brand. If you are going to pay all these guys, you should at least be using them. Split the RAW and SMACKDOWN roster in half or at least a quarter and take those wrestlers and make a new smaller brand for the Velocity/Heat shows. It'll get those unused more exposure and perhaps allow them to build major characters to later re-invent the wrestling crazy.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

I might see it if the damn thing would expand more. It added FOUR theaters...that's it??? That's just lame. Not to mention the theater near me was showing MYSTIC PIZZA for some god awful reason.
