  1. I have never once seen a classic NFL game shown as it was broadcast (by contrast, consider numerous college football broadcasts re-aired on ESPNC), even in a mildly edited form. It's always the uber-dramatic NFL films version. To build upon my "they can take games that I remember watching and make them totally unrecognizable" quote, I'll cite the Rams-Pats Super Bowl. I can stil remember the original Fox broadcast showing a far-back view right down the uprights as Vinaiteri kicked the winning FG. A couple years later when I saw the NFLF 1/2 hour version of the game, they only show the kick from the field point of view, and then we watch the ball take five minutes to clear the uprights. It adds nothing to my memory of the game and IMO does not preserve the feel of the game at all. Imagine if other leagues did this with their highlights. Imagine classic sports moments like Gibby's home-run or Michael Jordan's game-winning shots shown in NFLF style rather than the original broadcasts that we still see today. To quote Jim Mora Sr.: "In my opinion, that sucks"

    Re-open that ancient history thread.

    no thread indeed
  3. Fuck NFL Films and specifically fuck the Sabol family. When I want to see the classic NFL games, I want to see them as they appeared live, not chopped down into a half-hour with dramatic slow-motion on-the-field shots and overly dramatic narration. They can take games that I remember watching and make them totally unrecognizable.

It's the eighties, do a lot of coke and vote for Ronald Reagan!
  6. To expand on my earlier post about the FF music, while there are many fine songs to choose from, these are my personal favorites FFIV: "Red Wing theme" - You know this one. So good they used it again for the first half of the final dungeon "Within the Giant" - Inside the giant robot. So good they used it again for the second half of the final dungeon "Into the Darkness" - The cave theme. "Main Theme" - Overworld Theme "The Final Battle" FFV (which hasn't gotten much love): "Into the Haze" - Underground/Cave theme "Cursed Earth" - I don't remember where in the game this is, but it sticks in my head "Fight with Gilgamesh" - Gilgamesh's theme "Searching the Light" - Final area theme The two final boss themes ("Decisive Battle" and "Last Battle") FFVI (which has too much good stuff to choose from): "New Continent" - The floating continent after Kefka fucks shit up. "Last Dungeon" "Devil's Lab" - The Magitek factory Pretty much any of the personal themes, because they all fit their character so well: Locke and Setzer = free-spirited; Edgar = royal; Cyan = noble; Shadow = loner; Terra = isolation, and so on... FFVII, despite having four discs worth of soundtrack, wasn't that great IMO. The only songs I can really remember are the nightime invasion of the evil corporate tower, and Jenova's theme. I know "One Winged Angel" gets a lot of love, but I'm not feeling it. Also, unlike VI, the personal themes don't seem to stick with the characters quite as well. I could only tolerate VIII for a couple hours before stopping so I don't know any of the music. IX had a lot of rehashed themes, ironic since it was purposely a "rehash" game (throwing back to the old school) Never played X. Sometime later I'll look at other Square games, but this is enough for now.

While I lived there for three years and can't disagree with you, I still like Kansas (in spite of the obsession with intelligent design) Also, looking at Hoff's map above, I see Indiana is the only pink state. What a ghey fucking state. I certainly don't want that in MY midwest

    Hoff sucks

That hamdog looks more like the insides of a real dog
  9. The opera. Try singing the words on screen to the music. It's pretty hilarious. When I would play FFVI on emulator I'd use the save state and purposely have her fuck up the lines repeatedly
  10. Oh man, I don't even know where to begin with that. 4-6 all had great music across the board when it came to the following: Regular battles Big battles Final dungeons Final bosses I'll come up with individual pieces later
  11. YEAH! *kill kill kills Hoff*
  12. In most RPGs I played, the thieving option was much like those status spells (ex: Sleep, Poison, etc.): They become practically useless after level 10 or so. "Could not steal" "Could not steal" "Could not steal" "Could not steal" Fuck this... *swaps out Locke*
  13. Oh yeah, Cyan was a soul patch away from looking from like certain favorite musician of Czech and myself Now that would have been a tribute
  14. I also have to second Czech's opinion of Locke. I never used him at any time when I had such a choice.
  15. It always seemed like Celes to me. She got the big opera number, and she's your initial character after the "end of the world"
  16. Aeris would not be remembered so well had she not been ventilated by Sephiroth

Right. Terrain-wise they're nothing like the midwest states Bullshit. At least that's how I see it. I imagine our local Indianans (Agent and Alf) would say otherwise though

I think the US Census officially includes Ohio, Michigan and (maybe) Kentucky in the Midwest My personal midwest excludes the states east of the big river, leaving Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota and the Dakotas My reason for that is because 1) Those states seem a bit too east for me to think of them as "mid"-anything and 2) having crossed the big river at several points over the years, there's a decent amount of terrain change when you cross over either direction (west is more wide-open plains, east is more hilly and foresty)
