Since Lushus didn't recommend it in his SYL list, I'd definitely check out City as well. Alien and TNB are good, to be sure, but City was SYL's masterpiece IMO I'll post some video links later -
Why can't you believe it? Fox will broadcast just about anything... and then cancel it just as quickly

He didn't really call it a day, he just wanted to concentrate on (true) solo albums If Ziltoid is any indication, there's nothing to worry about -

okay, no snarkiness here, I swear First, while I liked the stuff he posted, based on the criteria Taiga tossed out I can see her disliking most of the videos Agent posted. Next, I see Taiga's primary area is thrash metal. This post of mine from a few years ago lists out a few other thrash bands to check out As for Anthrax, I can understand not liking them based on that poodle-haired motherfucker. Check out Sound of White Noise and We've Come for You All with the infinitely better John Bush on vocals... and for that matter, check out Armored Saint, Bush's other band. Lushus had a good one also with Strapping Young Lad. Most of Devin Townsend's other material would also be worthwhile to check out. No wailing vocals. Okay, that rules out most of power metal then, but try Nevermore, Iron Savior or Kamelot Not sure how that might fit in with the wailing vocals criteria, but there's also operatic female bands such as Nightwish, Epica, Within Temptation, After Forever. Save for Nightwish (who I haven't liked since the singer switch), they're not my cup-of-tea, but the genre as a whole has flirted with mainstream attention in the last few years. Since you want it fast, I imagine that eliminates most doom/goth metal, my personal favorite genre, but for the hell if it I'll toss out Paradise Lost (my favorite band... one warning though, they tweak their style on every album so any one or even few songs you hear won't be indicative of their entire career), Sentenced, Candlemass and Amorphis, especially their latest Silent Waters, which has become a top favorite of mine. I'll note that their new singer does do some death growls, but sings clean as well, and does very well at both. -

and that's not even getting into the differences within death and black metal Stick to your Rhapsody (of Fire) CDs! -
I don't do hipster irony Uber-goofy "Metal is serious business" leather-clad image notwithstanding, they have several good songs, although they haven't done anything worthwhile since the early 90's also, Manowar is one word also also, real men play on ten

The majority of non original lineup Kiss is terrible, save for a song or two. I will say that Revenge is actually a solid album, mostly because it doesn't sound like a Kiss album. I'm probably the biggest (only?) KISS fan on this board behind Paul Stanley (the poster- whatever happened to him anyways) and that Ecuadorian guy. And even I will admit that there's only about 5 decent songs in the non original lineup canon. I'll take Creatures of the Night (my personal favorite KISS album) and Revenge over anything from the classic era (save maybe Destroyer), but that's because I prefer the more metallic sound versus the regular hard rock of the 70's version. I'll admit that there's only about 1-2 good songs per album from all the albums between those two, but I'm not going to discount that period entirely (notably for "Lick it Up", "Heaven's On Fire", "Thrills in the Night", "Tears Are Falling" and "Forever")

I can't help but think about Jim Gaffigan's bit where he wonders how parents come up with names after so many children First kid, you were named after Grandma Second kid, you were named after my uncle Tenth kid, you were named after a sandwich

The OAO TSM "Happy Birthday, you!" Thread
Slayer replied to DrVenkman PhD's topic in No Holds Barred
Now, not to monopolize the "All Purpose Birthday Thread" (which I don't care for, btw... I preferred the "to each his own thread" method), but I decided to check out the "Who Shares My BDay List" out of curiousity. I've known for a while that I shared my birthday with Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Johnny Unitas, Gary Cooper, Owen Hart and Traci Lords (which strangely coincide with my interests in classical music, football, classical westerns, pro wrestling and underage pornography) but a search of Wikipedia reveals I also share it with Alex Smith, Shawn Marion, Hercules Hernandez, Tim Russert, Evita and Tito (the former Yugoslav leader, not the wrestler) -

The Reds have generally done well on my bdays as far as I can remember... too bad they can't keep that up all season Maybe if I made more David Robinson references instead -
Well, you could hate them for providing us with two lord awful finals earlier this decade Hell, we could have had Celtics-Lakers back in '02 if the Nets had decided to wither and die after that tank in Game 3, but no, they had to come back and win the series only to be broom fodder for the Lakers (I'm not sure if Boston would have fared any better, but it would've been a hell of a lot more interesting)... and then they had the indignity to come back the next year for an even more unwatchable series against the Spurs. So yes, it is possible to muster hate for the Nets in that regard

I racked up a lot of playing time during my four months of unemployment a couple years ago (hell, I started the original WoW thread here), but haven't touched it at all since I started my job, and probably won't ever pick it back up I still have two 40ish characters somewhere out there (I think, unless they purge inactives after a time), but I don't really care

Since Spiff snuck in that one while I was (slowly) working on the previous post, let me get in a pre-emptive bday wish for him in case I'm not around next week. Not only do we share close bdays (and hence are both Taureses), but we also share similar humor and I think we also have the same name too -

Thanks guys Regain my what? Actually, if anything I need a vacation from this place (which I'll be getting at the end of the month). I haven't been reading the board much less than normal, but I just haven't been inspired to post much about anything More like "nine oh whine" -

Yes they are, though I would further split eastern Kansas between the country and the KC metro... even if you and I are the only ones who would care about this. Having been out to western Kansas for business on several occasions, I can certainly attest to the awfulness of Dodge City. I can't attest for the culture or government issues, but goddamn does that place smell (meat plant, not Mexicans). It is somewhat nice for the whole historical aspect of the town, but once you've exhausted those four hours, there isn't much else. Given the choice, I'd definitely live in Garden City. Actually I think the cause and effect are switched here
