Yay tornados! <waves flag> They did lose to Nebraska legitimately though in '01 (I can still see that damn flea flicker play to Crouch in my head), so that already put their repeat title hopes in jeopardy, though, had they not lost to OSU, I'd like to see how the controversy might've turned out with three one-loss teams (Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oregon) all in a spot for that shot against Miami And after A&M's beating of KSU in '98, and them beating OU last year, they've shot right up there with Nebraska and Not The Ohio State Luckeyes as my most hated teams in college football

I was referring to his time of riding Stephanie (not like that) to maintain his ME spot undeservedly... so really, it's only been 2-3 years or so, since at least from '98-'00 it can be argued he was holding his own spot with his in-ring ability and personality (and with a little booking help too, but not like now)

This was the main thing I was referring to earlier when I said FSU gets breaks in the poll. No way did they deserve to go to the '00 title game against OU, where their play was so sloppy that the only points they had was a safety that OU spotted to them on purpose and thus proved that they didn't belong there. But Bowden is a darling of both the sports media and the coaches organization, so of course FSU gets breaks on both account... and like I said, I found this to be a big issue with Tom Osborne too, and to a lesser extent Solich today (see: Nebraska getting undeserved title shot nod in '01) What sucks now is that this is the fourth straight season in which the football deities have teased us with a possible OU-Miami champ game (just like the 80's again) and then took it away.

You killed your own argument there at the end, since the possibility for fallout in Levesque's career is huge down the line if he fucks up and Vince opens the proverbial trap door. On the other side, Ed Leslie was able to remain gainfully employed in the big 3 (including AWA of the late 70's/early 80's) for almost 20 years because of Hogan. Let's see if Levesque can even match a quarter of that time

It was the Raw blowoff in July. The cage match was never televised. I didn't see what the big deal was, myself. It was obvious Marty had no chance of winning. Here's how the match played out. Marty got the win but Shawn's foot was on the ropes ... Diesel and Heenan show the referee what happened on the video moniter ... match continues ... Marty misses a dive to the floor, knocks himself out, Diesel rolls him back in, Shawn gets the easy pin. It may have been a better match than simply what I just described, but it's been 10 years since I've seen it. Amazingly enough, I have this match on tape somewhere... I'm not really sure why, I happened to need to record RAW that night (when I would never miss wrestling), and then never recorded over it, which is odd since that was my all-purpose recording tape at the time. As for the match itself, it was a decent, and dare I say, very good match, especially for the usual fare on RAW at the time (setting up the AMERICAN HERO Luger versus EVIL SUMOAN Yoko), but it's hardly even a MOTY candidate (much less winner), given the matches Vader was putting on in WCW that year (Sting, Foley and Flair)

I've seen it happen many times over the years, the most personal time being when Kansas State got mega-screwed over in '98 after running the regular season table and looking to go against Tennessee in the championship, only to lose to f'king Texas A&M in the Big12 champ game on a bad OT TD call, then not only did not make the BCS title game, they didn't even get a BCS wild-card invitation, they dropped out of the BCS bowl picture entirely, and not only did not even get a NYD bowl, but went to a Dec 28th f'king Holiday Bowl game against 7-4 Purdue. I'm not bitter... really... 1998 was a bad football year for me, with KSU and the Vikings coming oh so close... In 2000 though, I adopted OU as my other favorite Big 12 team when they actually earned my respect (something Nebraska will never do) by beating KSU in two tough close games before winning the title, so I'd be all too glad to see them win it again. Damn I'm rambling... That was Arkansas-Ole Miss from a couple years ago, right? Coach Nutt must love those marathon games

Humorously enough, I remember seeing Tony Halme fighting on some Ultimate Fighting style show that aired on Fox Sports in late '96-early '97. It didn't have a ring of any sort, just seemed to take place on a large amateur-wrestling-type mat, and had the appearance of being filmed in some dark warehouse/large basement. His fighting name was "The Viking", and the episode I saw him in had him fighting some Irish kickboxer, who Halme demolished. Funny when you consider the "could have been" factor

My guess is that it was probably the last regular season game (and they weren't going to the playoffs), since I'd figure (I know for sure in my state) that playoffs need to start next week so they can be done by Thanksgiving
