TV Characters that went from kind of dumb
Slayer replied to Madmartigan21's topic in Television & Film
Not quite the same as a character intelligence devolution, but as long as we're talking about the show, what about Meg Griffin? In the original series run she had a fair amount of dignity, and even had some strong character moments, but in Neo-Family Guy she's suddenly become the resident punching bag, and is apparently so ugly/undesirable that people would rather commit heinous acts to avoid going out with, talking to or even looking at her -
Nice to see we've managed to pull Dama II, Texas style (smothered in gravy)

Again, not really. Teams don't absorb the souls of their vanquished foes. THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE

This is probably the third or fourth time we've discussed this... if I didn't know any better I'd say you were trying to turn me into the old you!

I remember that game all too well... my last football season living in Minnesota, going into that game I was thinking it was going to be a wash for the Vikings since they had just come off an NFC title game thorough cavity cleaning appearance, plus they generally did well in their home openers under Green, while the Panthers were coming off an average season... then the Panthers returned the opening kickoff for a TD and it was all downhill from there. On the forum I was posting at the time I said "Wow, I suppose these Panthers really are different from last year's team." Imagine my embarrassment when I found that post again shortly after season's end.

They should probably have two.......but Texas A&M kind of ruined that. Fuckin dive in front of the pylon, among other things. Probably the only time I've ever rooted for Ohio State in my life, such was the burning hate I had for the Aggies that year... though the thing that hurt worse than losing that Big 12 title game was getting the shaft from both the BCS bowls and the NYD bowls and dropping to the Alamo bowl against a .500 Purdue team, and then pulling the "we got screwed so we're not gonna show up" card but I digress While they did make the title game in 2000 and took it to the eventual champs, their other best shot would have been in 1999, but they just couldn't fucking beat Nebraska (again)

We were finishing up dinner and cleaning, so I had the TV on mute during the opening part of the game, and I really had to keep myself from cracking up at her exaggerated facial contortions (especially her mouth) as she was singing

Those early 90's Pats and Colts teams had point differentials of almost minus three hundred... I also remember the Kotite-led Jets of the mid-90s being pretty awful as well. Hell, I wouldn't put these Lions as the worst team of this decade (yet). Last year's Dolphins, anyone? There was also the '01 Panthers... that they turned around and went to the SB a mere two years later was nothing short of amazing

I don't know about the consensus opinion, but I'm not as big a fan of them as the other two from the big three English doom bands. I like their work up to and (somewhat) including Judgement, but after that they switched to a style that I just can't get into. That seemed to happen to a fair number of European goth bands in the late 90's/early this decade, most notably bands like The Gathering, Theater of Tragedy and Tiamat, though at least in recent years the latter two have released albums I enjoyed which were a good mix of metal and experimentation. -
I'll agree that the passing offense was not terribly hot prior to acquiring Warren Moon since the lack of a consistent solid QB in the early 90's hurt the team in that regard (as they weren't hurting for receivers with the two Carters plus Jake Reed), but the Vikings did have a top ten passing offense under both Moon and then Brad Johnson, even before they picked up Moss and the bricklayer

Clearly this means Varitek is going to Pittsburgh

I like those early albums as well, but I think the singer change was the best thing to rejuvenate the band. Silent Waters is definitely on my top five for the decade and gets regular rotation on my iPod As for PL, IR was a good CD, but as far as their material this decade, the self-titled from '05 blows it away IMO. -

I made Paradise Lost recommendations to Hoss By Gawd a couple of pages ago ...never did hear back from him -

The first couple of times I heard silly death metal covers of pop tunes, I found it vaguely amusing (I even toyed with the idea myself earlier this decade), but now that it's actually been executed, I realize how bad an idea it is. While I do like these bands showing they're not too serious (though I prefer the more unconventional humor of a Devin Townsend), unfortunately then it just feels like a stupid competition to see who can do the most unlikely cover -
There seems to be a rash of watersport threats lately

Bill Snyder unretires to retake reins at KSU Very mixed feelings about this one. Greatest coach in university history, obviously, but at the same time, I thought it would be better just to move on to another coach instead of retreading old ground and bringing him back, especially given a variety of factors including his age and his lackluster final two seasons

I tried to get into Katatonia a couple years ago with... I think it was Viva Emptiness, and just couldn't get into it. A couple months ago I saw they released a live album and decided to pick it up and really enjoyed it this time, so now I need to go back and pick up more of their albums. As for MDB, start off with Angel and the Dark River or Light at the End of the World. You can also check out November's Doom and Swallow the Sun for similar styled goth metal. -

It's also also doom season for me, although you and I differ on our doom tastes, with you preferring more of the Sabbath stoner doom and me enjoying more of the Gothic doom -
Missouri already clinched the North sport Even if they lose to Kansas and Nebraska wins over Colorado, resulting in tied dconference record, they beat Nebraska last month

Even TSfuckingA was getting play from guys here for a time

Duke's pulled it off three times this decade (two years ago, and back-to-back in '00-'01), and South Carolina did it in '99 I believe those are all the winless BCS conference teams in the BCS era

Well this was a complete face-palmer of a game

Hard to believe that two years ago this was the preliminary national title game
