  1. That most of us stopped posting here is no secret at this point. I'm guessing that a lot of you have found us, as evidenced by our unusually large backlog of registrants, but we haven't found you. If you're some person we've never heard of who aspires to switch from this TSM to that TSM, you should probably tell us who you are and why you want to come over so that we don't mistake you for Russian spambots and delete your account.

  2. Xavier is being left out of the handjob party because of his unwavering devotion to a transgendered weirdo from Buffalo who has managed to righteously annoy people who are higher in the board's chain of command than I am. As for the board's elitism, we've let in a large number of mouth-breathing lumps who bring nothing to the discourse, so let that go.

  3. Elitism has its place, say for example when you are hiring people for important jobs and you want to make sure they are competent. Message boards thrive on diversity of opinion, though, and I think you risk losing that when you keep people out over personality conflicts.

I think what really bugs me is that you can't even read the forum without joining. It really doesn't make any sense to have a private board if you want your membership to grow.

The other board doesn't really have a current events folder. Well, it does, but it's not really the same style as the Serious Politics Discussion On The Internet thing we had here, so we figured you wouldn't like it.

  4. "Incense and Peppermints," here.

Oooooh, that is a good one.

    'Hang On Sloopy'

    No, I like that song!

Sweet Caroline. The drunken frat-boy douchebag crowd participation parts: "bah-bah-baaaahs" and "so good! so good! so goods" turn me into a bitter hatemonger.

Hazel Mae's wicked haht for a flip!

  5. I'm just voting for the songs I like more. That said, I fucking hate Build Me Up Buttercup, and am psychologically urged to reach for a knife and a victim every time I hear it. I seriously, wholly, hate that goddamn song. Like, top ten songs I hate for all eternity. It's not quite Smash Mouth or Soul Asylum levels, but it's right there.

I get what he means. Something about the production, instrumentation, or whatever about popular music from the 1960s will occasionally compel someone to enter a violent rage. It's not always the same song from person to person, but everyone has one.

    Mine is "Sweet Caroline."

  6. I bet this leads to more insufferable "x is good, y is evil" dueling ad campaigns like the time Comcast wouldn't pick up the shitty Big Ten Network. That was a fun chapter of sports television history.

The NFL Network isn't any damn good either, from what little I've seen. More like NFL Public Access.

  7. Not-quite-spring is my favorite time for Wilco, the Smiths, and the Replacements.

"Alex Chilton" is my favorite 'Mats song because I'm an unoriginal shlub, but it's #1 for a reason, so I can't feel too bad about it. I'm extremely fond of "Androgynous" and "Here Comes a Regular," which is the only track I really really love off Tim.

  8. Having never had a hangover, I guess I can only offer my coping method for various incapacitating ailments, which is to drink tons of water, orange juice, black tea, and then eat some bananas. The vitamins and caffeine are apparently enough to get me through the day. If I have a migraine, there is no cure, and it's pretty awful. I don't think I've had one in over a year, though, which is nice.

  9. If he does get sent down and the team is obviously desparate enough to try to get rid of him, they should be responsible for half his salary. If he's not worth the contract, don't sign him to it. It's a great way to stop big market teams from sending away their expensive but useless players to small teams without having to pay a penalty.

If you give away free puppies, you don't keep half the puppy. Teams should be able to negotiate trades where one picks up some of the cash if that's what it takes to get a deal done, but if a player is claimed off waivers, the waiving team should have no contractual obligations left once the player is claimed. That's common sense. It's not a "great way" to do anything.
