Tremendous ROH Rant I found...
Michrome replied to Phoenix Fury Legdrop's topic in General Wrestling
By the way, if you have a point to make I don't mind a slam on another promotion. The slam on the Lance Storm angle was totally warranted IMHO. -
Tremendous ROH Rant I found...

Right, and what law is preventing them from moving the base of operations to Philly? The endless excuses are laughable, and it's not as if RoH only runs in Philly. They run in New Jersey, Philly, New York, Maryland, and Ohio. They will likely be expanding soon as well. In addition, if it's only about being in Philly, is their upward trend in attendance related to a population spike in Philly? And why don't the other Philly promotions draw as well? -
Maybe CZW should try improving their product to help their bottom line. Gosh, what a revolutionary idea! From my experience in life, I've observed that "monopoly!" is crybaby for "someone else is better than I am and it's not fair."

Luger has been pushed many times, but never drew money, not in his prime, not ever.
-
TNA only hurts itself by bringing in these "stars", it looks like the land of WWE/WCW rejects instead of a group of great, overlooked talent, which was what ECW based things on. ALso, even though ECW sucked dick from 97 on, ECW in 95 and 96 was a zillion billion times better than TNA is. So was ECW from 97-99, for that matter.

God this was the line of the week. I spit out my pepsi.

The Jarrett of 94 or 95 was capable of being carried to incredible matches by great workers. That's not the case for Jarrett anymore. I'm referring to the period when Shawn carried him on his back to a ****+ match at IYH 2. Jarrett also was decent in WCW 2000, but he's lost about 4 steps since then.

Cena as a babyface was over huge tonight, and come next Thursday he'll be mega over. Cena-Brock is the money match with Cena as a face.

I assume this means the gimmick battle royale at WM XVII was better than any WCW, ECW, or INdy match match that's ever been put on as well, because it was in front of more people! Try logic, it's really nice. Hogan-Rock was a pathetically shitty wrestling match with INSANE crowd heat from a crowd that loved Hogan. And that's all it was. Yes, RoH claims to be the best. So does every other fucking promotion. What in god's name do you expect them to say? "Welcome to RoH, we're pretty decent sometimes, but our fans and announcers suck dick, so turn down the volume." By the way, at No Mercy there were dueling "Let's Go Cena" and "Let's go Angle" chants...was that crowd of smarks trying to get themselves over? Or does this standard only apply to RoH?

Is a nostalgia buyrate boost worth alienating fans that want real nonstop action and not horseshit?
-
Actually, Juvi's mocking of The Rock came first, and Rock's shot at Jericho was kind of a return shot. That line was one of the best ever.

I will only be happy if Styles pins him clean. This excuse for bringing in old wrestlers will fly a few times, but so far it's Hogan, Duggan, Steiner, Sting, and Luger....when the list expands, and it likely will, will this continue to the the excuse?

The only match on that tournament that broke ** was Foley-Austin. It really gives me a headache when people bash Austin for his lack of moveset, as if that's what makes a wrestler great. If that were the case, all of the floundering Indy guys who can string a bunch of incredibly flashy moves together would have jobs with the WWE. What makes a good wrestler is transitions, selling, pacing, and storytelling ability. Austin was king in all of those areas. His Smackdown! match with Chris Benoit was better than any of the Booker-Benoit matches, as well. He brought Rock and Angle to their best matches ever in 2001, and was able to rough it up in different styles all the way till the end. Hell, he had a *** match with Ric Flair on Raw sometime before he quit.

I really enjoyed the matches, but the first time I saw this was when I bought the replay after seeing Keith's ratings, and I was horribly disappointed. I mean, these were fun matches, but if they're "****1/2 classics", what does that say about all of the other junior matches that are worlds better? I just rewatched Super 8 2001 the other day, and the 11 minute final on there blows these two completely out of the water. I really think these have been overrated because TV wrestling fans have been starved of great junior matches for a long time. Teddy Hart's kip-up pisses me off, but otherwise that match was real solid, and so was Juvi-Sabin.

I was on the old Delphi boards as Zerdad.

Interesting Jarrett article from Keller at Torch

He had a ***1/2 match with DDP in April of 99. -
It was a joke. Shut up.
-
It was nontitle.
-
You're joking about Luger, right?
-
How bad did he hurt his knee?
-
As a battle royale, I doubt it's going to be anything great. If they make their rule where the final 2 must win by submission or pinfall it could be good.
-
not before being shunted into a worthless midcard feud with Curt Hennig and Brian Adams.
-
Addendum: The reason they invoke the name of Bret against Vince is because fans still hate him for it. Bret vs. Vince is the only money match involving a Mcmahon that they have left.
-
Looks like the Cena face turn went over well. Babyfaces: Eddie, Cena, Angle, Benoit, Undertaker Heels: Lesnar, Albert, Big Show, Matt Morgan, Jones. Anyone else notice a disparity? Turn Angle heel already, he's so much better as one.

Bret Hart had just come into the company, and was slated to face Ric Flair one on one. Hogan and Sting decided to stay off the show, delaying their rematch until Superbrawl, leaving Souled Out with no title match and only Flair-Hart and the blowoff of Raven-Benoit to carry the show. It ended up doing a 1.02 (over 400,000 buys), and the huge Hogan-Sting rematch did a 1.1. Hart was subsequently buried and Ric Flair was phased off TV. Edit: It was Hogan's call to delay their match, not Sting's, by all accounts.
