TNA going all out for Bound for Glory

PWInsider.com is reporting that BFG will also be longer than most TNA shows. Here's what Mike Johnson posted:

    Matt Bentley gone from TNA

PWInsider is reporting that the contract is not expired yet, but similiar to Monty Brown this summer, they don't plan to use him during negotiations because they are apparently far apart. Here's what Mike Johnson wrote: credit: PWInsider.com
  3. TNA officially announced the first iMPACT taping will be on Tues, Sept. 27 and that they will follow an every 2 week schedule for the time being. Curiously though, there's nothing scheduled between Unbreakable and the first Spike taping, so that means they'll be going dark for 3 weeks. That's really gonna cut into the BFG hype time. I thought the six weeks between the PPVs would give them a chance to really do some good building, but I guess they think it's more important to gear up for the big debut. Here's the press release:

    Sacrifice

I just want to point that I called the finish of the main and I think TNA made a good decision. Rhino/Raven will be a compelling match-up next month and they've saved Jarrett/Raven II. I think we'll see Jarrett/Hardy with Jarrett blaming Hardy for costing him the title and Hardy wanting to avenge the fan.

    Sacrifice

I could be being an optimist, but I think it'll be more interesting for Rhino to pin Raven and get the title shot, pissing Jarrett off. He claims he should get the shot, and gets a number 1 contender's match next month (against who I dunno, maybe Hardy?) and Raven goes over Rhino so they get to BFG with Jarrett/Raven. We'll see though. I wish I had PPV access to see this one though, because TNA won't put the DVD out til Christmas at least. Sounds like a good show so far.

TNA going all out for Bound for Glory

Once upon a time, we all felt the same way about HHH, and he's jobbed more than anybody but HBK recently. Not putting Jarrett in their category talent wise, but stroke wise I'd say he's up there. Stranger things have happened.

TNA Meeting with Spike about Promoting Impact

I don't think anyone is saying this is the final piece to TNA's transition from the red to the black. But I don't think it can be denied that it is a huge step. Saving $30K a week will put any company in better financial step, as will additional revenue streams, which TNA will get by having the DVDs in stores and the action figures, etc. Obviously a big part of them turning the corner will be increasing the buyrates and drawing paid attendance, but I don't think anyone can deny that TNA is in better shape today that they were when they entered the FSN deal. Just like I don't think anyone can argue that will Saturday at 11 is not the ideal timeslot, it's infinitely better than Friday's at 4, especially on a regional network that frequently pre-empted the program. I'd argue that even if Spike doesn't give them the replays FSN did, they will still be viewed by more people in this new slot. TNA Today is not to far off from WCW when they first attempted to challenge WWE. WCW did all their TV, for a Saturday night show, at a soundstage in Atlanta, TNA does all theirs at a soundstage in Atlanta. And while I was far from a WCW fan when the first broke with the NWA, if I remember correctly they went a few years w/o running house shows. So TNA seems to be on at an approriate stage in their growth IMO. The difference without an owner who can sign the biggest names in the business and also owns television networks, they have to take what they can get and show they can draw. I know WCW didn't end up so well, but they made money for a while before being swallowed by guaranteed contracts, a mistake I don't see TNA making. So in summary, I don't think the negativity towards TNA today is anywhere near as justified as it was in the past. IMHO, they are clearly on the right path and have already reached heightened no one but maybe the Jarretts thought they be able to. And that's the end of my rant.

    Sacrifice

TNA has confirmed that Austin Ares will face Daniels in the non-title match on Sunday and also add the olibigatory spotfest opener: I guess that means that the other guys in the poll won't be used, unless they are using them for the pre-show.

    TNA News: Candido Memorial Tourney?

The news that they are not paying for the slot is the best news that has ever come out of TNA. As is the news that Spike sounds serious about promoting them. If they aren't paying for the slot, they they have actually have a chance, even if they aren't being paid for the slot yet. Also, I think the tourney is going to be the vehicle to push Diamond and Young as a viable tag team. Like someone else said, that's their whole gimmick (veteran helping young guy put it together) and I think they'll have an interesting feud with the Naturals as soon as this never ending TC feud concludes.

Good article about TNA on Spike

Yeah I was thinking something along those lines too. Like maybe a magazine style look at the feud starting with Raven's debut. And maybe start at XXX's formation in the 6 man and culminate with the title change. I definitely that would sell as well as any DVD they already have out, 'cept maybe the Best of AJ (and the best of daniels when they get around to that).

    News from TNA

Here's a news update from TNA's site: I didn't buy the original Best of the X-Division DVD (I got the Best of the Title matches instead) but I'd so buy this collection, even if just for the Iron Man Match and the Sabin/Joe match (I already have FR, so the UX isn't enough for me..lol). I also have always enjoyed that gauntlet from VR. I think it was one of the best opening match spotfests I'd ever seen the company had every put on, (even putting it up with the 6 man from the first PPV ever) and that should say alot because they tend to throw those out there for every "big" show (first show, first Impact, first 3 hour PPV).

Good article about TNA on Spike

I agree with you on every one of those reigns Corey. On a sidenote, I've always thought a good DVD for TNA to produce would be the Destiny show with the angles leading up to as extras. That was easier they're biggest 2 hour show ever, contains the most talked about match in their history even now and was benefit by the most focus booking TNA's ever shown (aside from the asine finish to the ME). I'm sure it would sell just as well as the LockDown DVD for instance.

WWE Main Eventer Leaving After SummerSlam

Well according to Meltzer today, it's not total bullshit, but it's not as final as this original report would have you believe. Here's what he had in today's update:

IMO, the most important thing here is the DVDs going to Wal-Mart. Maybe that means TNA is finally serious about getting their products where customers are. Hopefully Best Buy and Media Play aren't far behind.

    Banks New Column

I don't know where you get your DVDs from, but the last WWE DVD I brought (WM21) was almost $30. It was "on sale" for $27.99. Granted that was a 3 DVD set, but the last regular ones I brought (Monday Night Wars and Survivor Series 2002) where each $19.99.

    Banks New Column

That would be a hell of a deal, but they sell them online right now for $25 plus shipping and handling. I don't see them going too much under that for them in the store. I think $20 per is the best we'll see.
  19. TNABaddboi

    Banks New Column

I hope you can buy each one individually too. Packages can get kinda pricey (WWE packages sometimes run about $70) and IMO, they'll be more likely to get more impluse (as in "hey, i don't know about this, but I always liked Raven") buys for $20 bucks than a three pack for $60-70. The packs will be a good idea for regular fans, but people who haven't been introduced to the product yet will probably pass on the pack.

    TNA has its TV deal

Ummm....it's been almost a year since TNA stopped doing weekly PPvs. The last one was Sept. 8th i believe and they've been doing monthly PPVs since Nov.

    7/22 Impact

Yeah, I like the fresh crowds too. 2 eps is definitely better than 4 though, b/c now at least they can run promos in front of the live crowd instead of taping them the day before. Yeah, that 2nd show the audience was done. But part of that problem was that they were taping 2 hour shows and they didn't start the taped episode until the live one ended, around 10 est, as opposed to the way WWE does it when they have their supershow, which i believe is taping half of SD before Raw and half after.
  23. TNABaddboi

    7/22 Impact

I think it kills the audience too. You could really tell the difference between the first show and the fourth one at the last taping. Dixie Carter said during the conference call announcing the deal that they'd tape 2 episodes at a time, starting on Sept. 27 I think.
  24. TNABaddboi

    7/22 Impact

This happened last month too. Everyone said coming out of the tapings taht shows didn't look good and once they're aired, everyone was singing their praises. I think this is because when they do the 4 hour taping, they tape all the backstage promos the day before and don't show them to the live crowd to save time. In the spoiler thread, everyone was complaining about Lynn and Waltman not being on the show, and in the first episode, they've already set up a match that will have a lot of heat and is playing off a lot of backstory.

    TNA has its TV deal

PWInsider is reporting that Spike only sent their press release about the show to wrestling media. Here's what Mike Johnson posted: I certainly hope this was just a mix up in the rush to get the release out...but time will tell. Here's some other unrelated news from Johnson: It's good that Rhino's officially signed, but I don't think that was in doubt. That's a stupid name for the Outlaws though. Wow...TNA is horrible at repacking people. And I believe Unbreakable will September's PPV.
