    TNA Preview 6-16-04

Exactly. One man does not make or break a show, unless its Hulk Hogan and this is 1984. A champion is only as good as his challengers. Austin had Foley, Kane and Taker, and later Rocky and HHH. HHH had Rocky and Foley. Benoit has HBK and HHH. Now, I never really watched WCW, even during the NWO run, so I may be missing something (and if I am, please enlighten me), but who did Jarrett have to work with? David Arquette? Booker T could have been good, but he was thrown into the title picture without and build up and was damaged because of it. DDP? He was damaged by being involved in the whole Arquette mess. Jarrett's challengers were weak and by the time his run began, WCW was crumbling under the weight of its own excesses. To blame Jarrett for the collapse, when the problems that lead to it started before he started his run on top, is clearly unfair. And I'm no big Jarrett fan.

    Primetime Impact?

I do see the situation for what it is now. Was Kazarian main eventing 2 months ago? Did he just main event the first "increased exposure" PPV? Yes. NOW, they are clearly pushing the X division as a big deal. They book ended the first Impact with X matches and then delivered three more, which got more ring time than anything else on the show, in week two. So clearly, the X division is a big deal again, now. His feud with Kash is NOT a midcard feud. It will be willing to be that it ME an upcoming PPV and be giving time similar to the Styles/Kazarian match. Besides, even if it wasn't over the X-title, it would still be huge, because anything Styles touches in TNA is a big deal. His feud with Abyss did more to more him up the card than anything he has been involved in since he debuted. Yes I can. It's widely known that it was the most attended show they had since they moved to the Fairgrounds and was rumored to draw the highest buyrate for any TNA show.

You almost never simply make a comment. That is the problem I'm not pretending like they are doing anything that they are not. I'm also not pretending like their dead in the water either. I'm saying that they are here and that is. Where they will be in 2 years, I don't know. But dead, I don't really think so. That is all. More name calling...my point exactly. If you misread, I'll explain my point to you again. I didn't say that I mistook your opinion for fact, I said that you stated it as if it were a fact, when in actuality it is far from it. If you have any further misunderstanding, I'll gladly clear them up for you.

Did I just come on here and say ban this guy out of the blue, or where we discussing something prior to that? I thought so. Anyway, yes, my posts are all serious, because I come here to discussion the ongoings of TNA, not to insult people for liking or not liking the same things I like. If we disagree, then fine, but I'm not going to call people stupid for not thinking the same way I do. That would be the difference between my posts and your posts. That and the fact that I don't come off as a pompous, arrogant know-it-all. I state things as opinion, you state them as fact, when your opinion doesn't constitute fact any more than anyone else's around here. Weep for me all you'd like.

Really mature way to handle an argument, Mike. Stuff like that is why people question why you're still around. I can definitely handle you disagreeing with me....that's not a problem at all. I can defend my position with point after point just as you attempt to do. I just don't insult people's intelligence and try to make myself look smart with sad attempts at sarcastic humor.

    Primetime Impact?

Yes, he is an excellent heel. I'm not taking that away from him at all. And why can't you get it into your head that in today's TNA, just as it was in the beginning, the X-Division gets just as much as a push as the heavies. A solid feud with AJ and a run with the X belt will do more for Kash than a feud with Killings were neither of them has the belt. It's not like he's feuding with Erik Watts or some other worthless crap. He's feuding with the promotion's clear top star (based on tv time, merchanise and booking) and has had just as much time on Impact as Jarrett, Killings and Styles. Hell at this point, he's more recognizable to TNA's new audience that Raven is (just because they haven't really seen him yet, except for the package on last week's show). I'd say that a nice position for him. And in a while, I'm sure we'll see him in the World title mix. Throwing him in there now wouldn't be smart though, because he can do more for the X title's value, which they are clearly trying to re-establish. Yes, the finish to Jarrett/Raven did burn out the Nashville crowd...but to say that match itself didn't draw is asinine at best. And has been pointed out several times, Jarrett had to go over because putting your title on a uncontracted talent would have been uncomparably stupid. Then they'd have been susceptable to being held up like WCW did when they took Awesome from ECW. Yes it did, but they could have brought in Sabin under the same policy they have now: tryout dark match leads to contracts. Bringing in random guy of the week will even further add to the problem of people not being able to identify with the wrestlers.

Somebody ban this guy already. PLEASE.

    Primetime Impact?

I agree that Abyss should definitely be in the ME, but I'm not so sure about Kash. He's an excellent heel, but I think putting him there now would be too soon. They have to build him up some more first. Maybe a good run with the X title and then have him do the AJ leap. And Jarrett should be in the ME scene, as he can be a valuable asset in putting guys over as legitimate. I will agree with you that he has had too many runs with the belt and in his last one, his number of actual defenses was laughable. But by the same token, his first reign did more to build up that title as important than anyone else who's held it and he had believable feuds with half the roster, from AJ all the way down to Disco F'N Inferno. They don't need to push the open door policy because its better when they have a regular roster. They just need to sign the right indy talent and bring them in good spots. And they do need to stop running things into the ground, because I'm sick and tired of the X Cup nonsense. By the same token, however, they have done a nice job of making cage matches and UX matches seem important by not busting them out every 3 weeks.

First there ECW, then they're WCW. Mike, meet 2004. No one has said they are a flawless company. We just have said they aren't already dead like people have been claiming since the ring broke before their first show. None of us know the details of their financial situation. They have begun making moves to increase their exposure, and thus, increase buyrates. They have the show, they are talking of beginning house shows at the end of the year and finally seem serious about getting their DVDs in stores, all of which should tremendously help their buyrates. We're just saying that you give an incredible one-sided, totally pessimistic view of TNA. Even guys like Corey and Dynamite Kido, who have pointed out several of the flaws that you have, do so with out the this company will be dead in 6 months BULLSHIT that you like to include. And then you wonder why everyone virtually ignores the few good points that you tend to make. Its because we've all realized a long time ago that you are A TROLL.

Mike, the ECW comparision is also getting quite old and stale. I write a long, detailed explaination of the differences between the two, but its been done sooooooo many times already that I don't really have to. In case you are unfamilar with those differences, here is a very well-written column from a guy at wrestlingdb.com that explained them: Questions?

    TNA Preview 6-16-04

It's ironic that as the company celebrates it FUCKING 2 YEAR ANNIVERSARY that we still have the same they'll be dead in (6 months, 1 year, 2 years) talk that have always come from the same people around here. Give it up already. They're here. And they're growing. Whether or not you agree with every decision they make is irrevelant to their ability to survive. Give it up already. It's really getting tiresome.

The difference is that mine came off as a valid criticism and not mindless trolling because I give TNA credit where credit is due and I also acknowledge when they make mistakes. If you're only giving one side, of course people are going to disregard what you have to say.

    Primetime Impact?

They can offer all they want, he has a contract, Mike. Not an ECW, contract that don't hold water contract, but a real enforceable contract. Notice Konnan is still taking up our airspace on Wednesdays and Friday instead of paling around with Rey Rey and Eddie on Thursday? Because he has a contract, just like Styles. Now they could offer him one when its up, but that's another discussion entire. You're acting like WWE could pluck him right out of a TNA ring, mid-match. WWE has clearly stated that they don't want to waste time and energy on a legal battle with TNA anyway, which is what was reported when there was rumored interest in Shane and someone else I don't remember right now. So please spare us they aren't enforceable garbage, because clearly they are. Otherwise, I'm sure we would have already seen a talent raid or two.

    TNA Preview 6-16-04

Conventional wisdom said that the blow off would have been Team NWA winning the World Cup last month. Obviously TNA disagreed, but I am so with you on this thing running its course. As I said in my preview, it was a very effective storyline from February to May and I'm sure they popped some decent buyrates, so the X Cups by all accounts were a success. But this is getting ridiculous now. They should just push Williams and Rude as a legit tag team, and in fact, give them a run with the belts. Give Garza a solo push in the X division and don't mention the World Cup again til next May, unless we're talking about a DVD release.

Forget both of those teams.....bring on TEAM CANADA for a title feud.

    Primetime Impact?

I will do no such thing because we were all working on a premise supplied by you. My question was that if they did indeed get a .3, like you stated that you had heard, why not applaud them for doing better than you expected rather than down them for the "low" number? It was clearly hypothetical.

    Primetime Impact?

I e-mailed Meltzer about the rating and this was his response:

    3rd Jarrett Mercenary Revealed

I hope these guys can bring it in the ring, because when they're introduced, the majority of the crowd is gonna let out a collective "who?" I get what TNA is trying to do by introducing them in a big spot, but it ought to be interesting to watch. They're already handicapped by having to carry 3LK, 'cept Truth of course, and most likely job.
  19. TNABaddboi

    Primetime Impact?

So why not give them credit for exceeding your expectation rather than shitting them for their "low" rating that is higher than you thought it would be. And yes, this is assuming that number is correct. But weren't you the person who introduced that number to this conversation? Why are you doubting it now?

    Phenomenal: A.J. Styles DVD

Yeah, I was thinking that too. The only match I would have included that was on another DVD would be the 3 way with Jarrett and Raven, not necessarily because it was great, just because of the significance of it being his first title win.
  21. TNABaddboi

    Phenomenal: A.J. Styles DVD

I noticed that too. Either their #1 contender's match (Ladder match I believe) from March or their title match from August should have been on here.

    TNA Preview 6-16-04

I don't think they'll debut Kanyon here. They'd most likely save it for the anniversary show or something. And unless they're also bringing in DDP, I'm sure they'll bring in Kanyon as a face and throw him in there with Jarrett, kinda like how they brought in D'Lo. They brought in Raven like that too, but the roles were reversed then.

    Phenomenal: A.J. Styles DVD

IMO, this should have been a bigger priority for TNA than the trading cards and action figure deals. This should have been #2 right after Impact, because more than anything else they've discussed, this could most likely lead to new PPV buyers.

    Phenomenal: A.J. Styles DVD

Damn....I'm upset I just ordered the Ultimate X DVD now. I HAVE to have this one though, so I will be once again ponying up more money for TNA. BTW...does anyone think this will ever actually happen?
