The OAO "Funeral For a Friend" RAW Thread - 06/25/07
UseTheSledgehammerUh posted a topic in The WWE Folder
Tonight, a very special three-hour edition of Monday Night Raw will start at 8/7 CT. Superstars from Raw, SmackDown and ECW are required to attend Raw as the federal investigation broadens into the demise of Mr. McMahon. Every Superstar has begun the finger pointing at their peers, and lead federal investigator Daniel Beck has the task of deciding between fact and fiction. Will Beck find any leads into Mr. McMahon’s limo explosion? Our fans in Corpus Christi, Texas will have the opportunity to pay their respects to Mr. McMahon as well. A memorial will be set up inside the lobby of the American Bank Center, where our fans can give their own eulogy for the fallen Chairman. After Vengeance: Night of Champions, John Cena is still the WWE Champion, having defeated Mick Foley, Bobby Lashley, King Booker and Randy Orton in the WWE Championship Challenge Match. How will those Superstars react to failing in their quests for gold, and will anyone emerge as a contender to Cena's title? After all, If Johnny Nitro can be a World Champion, then anyone from the popcorn guy to the janitor may be the next to win gold! Also, Candice Michelle left Vengeance as the new WWE Women's Champion after defeating Melina. What will Candice do on her first night as champion? To find out these answers and more, tune in to a special edition of Raw tonight at 8/7 CT on USA Network. -

Wow. The Undertaker and Paul Bearer have to totally be involved with the funeral. If Taker is physically able to give a couple chokeslams out to Shane and Vince's heel minions, that'd rock, like if they refuse to "let go of Vince's memory" and decide that the casket will not be buried or something. If that happened I'd even forgive that PPV from last night. -

I can't wait to see Hulk Hogan and Stone Cold interact tonight. And Tully Blanchard standing next to Arn Anderson. How cool will it be to have The Rock and Mr. Kennedy within feet of each other? Surely, every guy that Vince has ever made money for will be at his "live, broadcasted on TV so even if you hate him you better be there to not look like an asshole to the fans" funeral service tonight. Man, the thought of Kamala in a suit is something I can't even wait for. Plus, we'll get Bret Hart tonight. It's going to be awesome. Pretty much every single important wrestler ever except Sting will be on Raw, tonight. Yeah, or not. WWE will screw this up again and by 11 pm the "Jackass" guys will be babyfaces that Stephanie and Shane will promise revenge to. But at least we might get some hilarity with seeing WORLD CHAMPION JOHNNY NITRO. -
"DOA had the largest second weekend drop of all time. Poor Big Kev." The Volleyball game movie actually came out??? I can't wait for the DVD! Seriously. I didn't see one commercial or preview for this. Evan Almighty's budget was $225 million? A sequel with less star power in the lead role than the original? Brilliant! From the trailer I saw, it seemed like it was more of a Learn Something Bible Story than a funny movie. Pass. Transformers is gonna rock. PG-13 Die Hard will probably suck. YIPEE KI YAY, MOTHER FRIGGER! Surprised Fantastic Four is kicking ass after the horrible first one. Knocked Up was so good. Only a little less funny than 40 Year Old Virgin but the drama was much better and it's still an upper echelon movie. Still gets an "A" from me for amazing writing and characterization. I refuse to see Ocean's 13 because I found the last one to be awful, as did all my friends, who usually like everything, so no one would go see it with me anyway. Shrek 1 and 2 were amazing, Shrek 3 felt unfresh, unfunny, and out of ideas. Didn't like it. Hostel 2 was okay. 1408 is probably good, as Cusack is excellent and the previews reminded me of his work in "Identity", which was really good, so no surprise to see it doing so well.

Just watched this. AWFUL show. Raw Tag Title: Disappointing. Smackdown Tag Title: Embarassing. Women's Title: Bad. U.S. Title: Slow, not good. IC Title: Bad. Cruiser Title: Pretty decent, actually, but unimportant due to WWE's booking of the division and wrestlers, and thus not as good or heated as it could've been. World Title: Pretty good. ECW Title: Pathetic booking, a shame the workers got shit on for WWE still promoting it as a "World" title match despite the lack of a real star in the match. And for the CM Punk marks, his biggest/most watched win in his career thus far was on the Raw Draft Show this year. That does not a World Title contender make. And Johnny Nitro's biggest wins as of late were against Eugene and Nunzio. WWE Title: Senseless 10-minute match. The new draftees, Book and Lashley weren't losing. Orton wasn't losing with his new push and wins over HBK, Lashley getting the ball rolling. So the finish was Cena over Foley. Just a bunch of spots. Raw main event. For all the shit the "Invasion" storyline got in 2001...Unforgiven 2001 was an 8-match show and 7 of them were title matches. A few of the matches were great, all were pretty good except the Kronik/BoD abortion. That's how you book a night of champions. On that PPV, all of the matches got time save the U.S. title bout, which was an extended squash anyway, and the titles came off MEANING SOMETHING. This show? Like a crack-addicted junkie found some WWF Toys and did his own PPV. A 2 minute IC Title bout? Flair wrestling for a title? FOLEY IN THE MAIN EVENT? JIMMY FUCKING SNUKA IN A TITLE MATCH? What a joke this show was.

"Better than anything from the forgettable Season Three" The Episode with Drama's TV premiere, his moping, and the final "VICTORY!" was a classic episode.
-
I've always contended that ratings mean shit since pro wrestling is such a cult niche demographic and the average American isn't a fan, thus sampling isn't fair.

WWE General Discussion for June 2007
UseTheSledgehammerUh replied to Hunter's Torn Quad's topic in The WWE Folder
The reason that The Sandman was not included in the WWE Championship Challenge Match, despite being a former multiple-time World Champion, is that, when the match was announced, JR and Ross stated that "Any former world champion who is still remaining on the Raw roster by the end of the night will be eligible". Sandman wasn't on the Raw roster at the end of the night. It sucks. A 5-Way Match? Ugh. -
"while Punk has had to work all the way up to this point for a year." No. Punk received an ECW World Title shot at ECW December to Dismember.
-
Absolutely not unless he is forced to have a large Boise State banner under every one of his posts for 2 years.

Everything's re-ordered and fixed up to One Night Stand. -
"Does anyone else think that CM Punk has underperformed since coming to WWE?" Being booked in 5-minute matches every week with unover guys like Matt Striker, Mike Knox, Stevie Richards, and Nunzio will have that effect. Punk will start breaking out, his Judgment Day match with Burke was decent, if only a little heatless due to the guys not really getting the exposure they're getting now. Punk's not as over as Benoit on ECW, but he keeps getting more popular. Hope they have a great match on Sunday. At least 15 minutes please. _________ BTW, Punk has beaten both Cor Von and Burke now in "big match" situations, so if Punk is given the title belt, who becomes his big challenger? I have to think Benoit goes over Sunday and drops the belt to Punk at SummerSlam or something. Babyface champion CM Punk would kinda suck, too.

"So you think Armstrong wasn't doing a good job as a Ref because he was doing his job of doing the shoulder check?" Not at all, Scroby. I like the shoulder check, but as I stated in my original post, I think he was kind of over-selling it. A roll-up is a roll-up for a reason, to add drama to an "out of nowhere" sudden near fall. It loses the drama when the referee SLOWLY gets into position, then SLOWLY checks the shoulders, and then starts a count. If Armstrong was quicker, and couuld check the shoulders quicker, he would be a better referee. "Did you not watch any of the old NWA days, there refs did that all the time." Comparing classic NWA referees to Scott Armstrong is like comparing apples to diseased grapefruits.

I like how to the live crowd, D & D can beat the unbeatable Kendrick & London like 4 times, but can't get past the awful Major brothers.

Graham's set of spoilers, which I read on Wrestling Observer this morning, are how they should always be done. Seriously, reading Graham's write-up of the Hardy/Finlay match makes me invision greatness, Hardy playing the old mid-card Bret Hart role of fighting back despite an injured limb, and somehow getting the win even over a more experienced wrestler. Plus, 17 minutes! And then other spoilers say "Matt Hardy defeated Finlay."

"what other feud right now will have 2 faces going at it?" How dare you snub Kelly Kelly and Brooke.
-
Oh man, Scott Keith is probably jerking off with five hands right now. This is his Warrior/Hogan.
-
Cor Von's gonna eat a GTS soon.
-
Say what, Joey? The ECW Title dates back to ECW? How insightful!
-
"Punk's last year WWE PPV theme" What's worse, Orton used it too.
-
I'd prefer they do Punk/Benoit ASAP, like Sunday, in case Punk accidently gets blown up in a limousine. Was that joke tasteless? Too soon?
-
I'll say it. "Marcus CorVon" is a better wrestling name than "Monty Brown".
-
In the real world, guys like the Miz are much more appealing to women than most of the WWE roster.
-
This will lead to Brooke falling in love with Viscera and feuding with Kelly Kelly and The Miz.
