The OAO Best of RAW 2003 Thread 12-22-03

Crowd hates Goldberg. Me too. So Goldberg wins and is pushed as top face. Oh and this is like, AWFUL. Rock in three straight PPVs with Hogan, Austin, and Goldberg in early '03. God DAMN.

Mixx, sarcasm, bro. Though Orton will be a HUGE face draw one day, he just has "it". Just needs to get better in the ring. I like his ringwork a lot better in his first year than I did Rocky in his.

Holy shit there's the RAW TV Match of the Year right there. The whole thing was probably Raw Brand's #2 overall match of the year, IMO, behind HBK/Y2J WM 19, and tied/right above the SS Elim. Tag.

It would have been, if, you know they had the belt stay on Christian from MAY to LATE SEPTEMBER...and this ladder match may have actually meant something. Instead, it's just kicks and somersaults. Better than the E Vs. C ladder match, tho.

That's a great camera shot of RVD doing the thumb-point with the far shot of the crowd. "ROB VAN DAM!" I hope they show a big-ass HHH video package to re-cement his title status. The best heel of the new millenium has genuinely gotten nearly every viewer to HATE HIM, and going into WM, they could legitiamately draw HUGE money with a fresh face Jericho chasing the title from him. Show the Trish/Y2J stuff and question Y2J's heart and then do a HHH video...

RAW Preview for Dec. 22nd, 2003: With the Royal Rumble a little under 2 weeks away, tempers are heated up for what should be an explosive Raw! The U.S. Title will be on the line as new champion The Rock defends against the monster Batista! The Hurricane will serve as special guest referee, and the reluctant member of Evolution will be granted his freedom if The Rock wins! Just 2 weeks away from his World Title shot, Brock Lesnar will be the house, as he faces the one and only "Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels in our Hour 1 Main Event! Shawn's looking to win the Rumble itself...could this be a preview of WrestleMania XX's main event? Cruiserweight Champion Christopher Daniels, who has been unbeatable lately, will defend his title against Christian, who has a lot of experience with winning championships! An upset could easily happen! TV Champ Randy Orton will be in the house, and RAW General Manager Eric Bischoff has ordered his mandatory TV Title defense tonight to be against The Big Show! Can Orton fend off the challenge...and what is Bischoff thinking with the Cena/Orton bout just weeks away??? -Kane will be in action against Booker T! Both men are officially in the Royal Rumble, and the undefeated Big Red Monster looks to gain more momentum! -Ex-Evolution member and 16-Time World Champion Ric Flair returns to RAW to face the A-Train! -John Cena battles newcomer Sean O-Haire! -We understand that the Hour 2 Main Event will be an 8-man Elimination Match featuring World Champion Bill Goldberg, Chris Jericho, Rob Van Dam, Rey Mysterio Vs. The Undertaker, Triple H, Chris Benoit, and Tajiri! Can any of these teammates even get along with the Rumble right around the corner? -And the list of Rumble participants becomes closer to being final...all this on RAW!

    Just picked up a GameCube...

Cool, how much do the Nintendo and 3rd part memory cards usually go for? There's a Final Fantasy game coming to GameCube, right? Is it supposed to be better than the previous versions? A cheap spinoff? Saw the commercial at the theatres for ROTK.

Goldust "Officialy" Released from WWE !

Yeah, he can go to TNA and be "Dustin Runnels" and be even more boring then their courrent product. I dunno, Goldust is a one-trick character. It's ironic that when he debuted back in '95, he was sloppy and not in the greatest shape, yet his character was so controversial that it sold tickets and was interesting. In '02, he was arguably in the best shape of his life, yet the fans got bored with the character. He turned face, and the Book-Dust stuff was funny, and put some life in him...but the gimmick was just past it's time, I guess. Thanks Goldust for the memories. -WM 12 Hollywood Backlot Brawl -Fondeling the mentally-unstable Ahmed Johnson on Raw and producing a "He's gonna Die!" moment -Decking Lawler on RAW and turning face after he noted how Triple H made advances to Marlena and said "Well aren't you...ya know...uh....ya know...well...gay?" -Returning the gimmick late '98 to deliver the Shattered Dreams to Venis...a move that was WAY over for a while. -Teaming up with Blue Meanie -Jobbing the IC title to Godfather on RAW in '99...I, like most people, was a huge Godfather mark in '99, and it made me happy. -Hiding in the nWo Dressing Room in '02 and trying to become a member...also getting Booker T to leave them. -Winning the Tag Straps in a good matchup against Team Chris at Armageddon '02. -Paying tribute to your father Dusty by getting your ass jumped by the newest incarnation of the Horsemen on Raw in '03. We hardly knew thee.

Should Bret Hart be at WM 20 or not?

Why should Bret get a "big ceremony" ? Did Hogan, when he returned? No, he actually competed and earned his place on the roster (well, temporarily) with a true WM moment. Bret was a tremendous talent and all, but putting him as a "special ref" or giving him a speech takes away from the current talent who deserves to perform and or alters their storylines (the ref bit). Bret refused to DO THE JOB he is paid to do at SSeries 97. Jeez, if Triple H refused to job the day of a PPV, and hasn't he (?), you'd call for his death. Bret gets all this "return to the glory!" bullshit just because Vince dealt with his self-promoting ass. I'm sorry your brother died, and your career ended b/c of Goldberg, and about your unfortunate stroke, Bret. You were a great WWF talent. But you don't deserve to be at WM 20. So fuck off. Does ANYONE remember Bret bashing Vince and WWE non-stop on any indy or 2nd-rate PPV he could get on? Why should the washed up, unprofessional, has-been be apart of a CELEBRATION? If he DOES appear, it should be to apologize. Sorry, but I'm SO sick of all your Bret Hart ass-kissing. It's not 1992 anymore, it isn't even '97. GET OVER IT.

RVD Expected To Sign New Deal

***Remember when RVD used to point to himself after every move he did in ECW? How fucking annoying. *** That's called a gimmick. You were supposed to not like him. The pointing indicated his lack of respect for Sabu and the fans, and ECW altogether when he sided with the WWF shortly. He only cared about himself. The pointing did nothing to really hurt the match. And it was only done when he celebrated, entered the ring, won a match, or just hit an awesome move. When he turned face he did the "R-V-D" points before some crazy spot, when the opponents was already incapacitated, and during his entrance. He was the biggest face in the company for years, so somebody liked him. How is it he was "annoying", yet in your first sentence you indicate you've seen "every move" he's done.

The OAO Best of RAW 2003 Thread 12-22-03

I'll watch this show and tape it, 'cause there's some stuff I wanna see that I don't have in DVD matches or video packages: -The Rock Vs. The Hurricane, and Austin runs down, to distract Rock, Hurricane gets the upset. -The Rock & Hurricane argue backstage, about Scorpion King & Green Lantern. -Random clips of Victoria and that sweet ass. -Austin asks Kane to "get tough" and be the guy that beat him at KOTR 1998. I never saw this, I went outside for a cig, and it's pretty important, I guess. Apparently came off good. -some La Resistance stuff, 'cause they were my favorite RAW tag of '03...and that's kinda sad, 'cause they didn't do anything really special. -I want the RVD/HHH match that saw Flair interfere for the DQ, then Bischoff restart and change to "No DQ, Falls Count Anywhere!". Rob hits 5 star, Orton runs in, RVD fights off the 3 of them with some kickass offense for a couple minutes, then Trips gets the eventual pinfall on the ramp. -I wanna see Kane losing the mask in full. Kane sucks, but it's significant, I suppose. -Clips of Elimination Chamber II, 'cause I want to have them and wouldn't be foolish enough to buy such an awful PPV on DVD. -Gail Kim stuff. She sucks, I know, but I'm startin' to miss her. -The HHH/Goldberg video package from Survivor Series 2003 *WITH* the "Build a Bridge" song that WWE edited off of the DVD. Those fuckers. That's about it. What a lousy year. WWF used to have more memorable moments in 1 or 2 shows than WWE 2003 had ***ALL YEAR***. And that's NOT an exaggeration.

I actually think the brand extension..

I remeber watching WM 19 this year with some old friends that didn't know about "the split". "So who's the champ now," Bill asked. "Well, Triple H is the "world champ" on RAW, but Angle's got the old WWE Title on Smackdown." "Oh, so they fight tonight to unify it?" "No, see there's like, 2 different 'brands'...like WCW and WWF, with different "styles" or something. "So there's two world champs of the WWE? That's so dumb." How do you think the occassional old fan of WWF feels about seeing two fucking champions? SO LAME. Might as well consider WM 18 the end of the WWF, forever. The last true "moment" that wasn't "forced" on us by JR (Rock/Hogan I was just...incredible...). Both brands before the split. ONE champ, and one man to end his reign and start the beginning of the SHIT, Triple H. A case can be made that the "brand extension" represents a whole different company. I don't view the IC title, which already was kinda worthless, as important anymore, because it's RVD or Orton defending against HALF the roster. The RAW title gets defended against, what, 2 different opponents in a span of several months? Fuck the brand extension. It's totally watered down the WWE. R.I.P. WWWF/WWF 1963-WrestleMania 18. (and I know the WWF changed to WWE in May 2002...but WM 18 is my official end of the company's glory. It's just two shitty shows now.)
  18. UseTheSledgehammerUh

I actually think the brand extension..

The idea was also to give the entire roster exposure. Smackdown! has failed to give exposure to the proper talent. Instead of seeing Mysterio, Hardy (for his run)Kidman, Ultimo, WGTT, London Spankings, etc. featured in bigger roles, and portrayed as new, cool characters that we can see at house shows and PPV, we get... "That's Matt Morgan, he's huge, what's he doing here!" "Nathan Jones, the Colossus, oh my God!" "Hardcore Holly is back!" MCMAHON-O-MANIA "The Cat is dancing!" "A-Train...the Derailer...1-2-3." "Big Show wins the U.S. Title!" etc. They have failed to push the entertaining talent. Guerrero got a U.S. title reign, so what? It was squashed in a couple months. He had a multi-month IC reign before the brand extension in 2000. Cena has developed a decent gimmick. Benoit's played job-boy and stuck in hoss feuds, doing nothing for him. So what's the Brand Extension done for Smackdown? Given Sable for TV Time? More APA Matches? And RAW, hoo boy. RAW's extremely weak roster needs work. RICO Vs. MAVEN MATCHES? KANE Vs. ROSEY? What the hell is this CRAP? I just watched the first ever Smackdown Special, from '99. EVERYTHING clicked. While some matches may have been poor, such as D'Lo Vs. Droz, they ALL had a purpose, and produced a crowd reaction. Mark Henry returned to a BIG pop from injury. E & C spoke for the first time. Hayes got a bloodbath. Rock and Austin cut a great promo together. Shane was really entertaining. Kane/X-Pac V. Outlaws was fun to watch. Etc... When's the last time you could watch a show and look for lots of GOOD THINGS, not just the extra CRAP that the "brand extension" has added? All the extension is, is Vince paying less PPV-rev. to his workers, and cutting the chances of a union down from happening by permanently seperating the rosters. With Bischoff and Paul E as the figureheads of the shows, it doesn't even feel like the WWF anymore. Fuck Vince and his awful shows.

Hour 2: Backstage, A-Train and Edge discussed the lack of respect that they had both gotten lately. Edge claimed he could of easily beaten any of the cruiserweights on Wednesday, just like he did to Mysterio at Armageddon. Edge decided to enter the Royal Rumble, and A-Train decided to, as well. They were interrupted by Eddie Guerrero, who said that it wasn't that the two were disrespected, it's that no one cares about two boring wrestlers without any Latino Heat. A-Train was ready to attack, but Edge said he'd meet Guerrero later in the ring! 6. Booker T Vs. Chris Jericho Both men shook hands, but Jericho then mocked T's "five time" hand gesture, and gave him the middle finger. -Jericho defeated Booker T by submission in 7:09 with the Walls of Jericho, on Booker's weakened back. -Postmatch, Jericho claims he was robbed of his chance to be the World's Champion, and plays a clip of last week's RAW. After the Jackhammer, he claims, his foot was under the bottom rope...it turns out, that he was correct! Jericho, receiving a decent ovation, announced that HE would win this year's Royal Rumble! :::commercial::: 7. Edge Vs. Eddie Guerrero -Guerrero defeated Edge by DQ when the A-Train interfered and attacked Guerrero at 6:54. Guerrero was saved by John Cena, who ran off the heels. :::backstage, Christopher Daniels gloated to partner AJ Styles how he would never be defeated for the Cruiserweight Title. Daniels walked off to celebrate. Styles was confronted by Matt Hardy, Version One-Uh, who said Daniels was jealous of Styles, and only befriended him so that Styles couldn't take his belt. Hardy left, and Styles contemplated his message.::: 8. The Undertaker & Batista Vs. Shawn Michaels & Rob Van Dam -Taker pinned Van Dam in 16:54 after the Last Ride to pick up the victory. All 4 men, as previously announced, were entered into the Royal Rumble match. -commercial- :::backstage, Bischoff noted how tensions were mounting with the Rumble approaching. He knew Goldberg/Lesnar would be a blockbuster, but wanted to add more matches. Randy Orton approached Bischoff, and gloated about his earlier actions. Orton said anytime Bischoff needs something done right, to talk to the "Legend Killer". Bischoff thought, and said since Orton had a title defense for the Rumble, he'd have no problem taking out an "annoying little nothing" at the PPV. Orton smiled and asked who he meant...Hurricane...Spike...Mysterio? Bischoff answered "John...Cena"... :::commercial::: MAIN EVENT: 9. John Cena Vs. Brock Lesnar -Lesnar won in 10:45 after a lowblow and an F-5. Postmatch, he attacked Cena, but Cena got the upper hand until Randy Orton attacked him from behind. Bill Goldberg, in street clothes, ran in and saved Cena. Check out RAW as the road to the 2004 Royal Rumble continues!

WWE Saturday Night (Dec 20th '03) 1. WWE U.S. Title Bout The Rock © Vs. Mark Henry -The Rock polished off The World's Strongest Man in 4:07 with the Rock Bottom. Afterwards, a pissed off Henry muttered "we're gonna change it, right now" to the camera. -The Rock spoke to Tazz and informed him that he was the best damn U.S. champion of all time. Batista appeared on the TitanTron and challenged Rock to a rematch on RAW. Rock responded by saying he wouldn't give Batista a match, unless there was a special guest referee....this man... *STAND BACK! THERE'S A HURRICANE COMIN' THROUGH!* It's The Hurricane! Batista looked pissed, but accepted the match. Rock also added that if...no, no, when The Rock wins, Hurricane will be free from Evolution's beatings! :::commercial::: <Highlights of the Cruiserweight Cup tournament> -Christopher Daniels carried his trophy to ringside, and invited any cruiserweight in the back out for an open challenge, non-title, of course. 2. Non-Title Match Christopher Daniels Vs. ????? Rey Mysterio accepted the challenge! -Daniels pinned Mysterio in 5:12 after the brainbuster. A graphic was shown for the WWE WORLD TITLE MATCH at the 2004 Royal Rumble: WWE World Championship GOLDBERG Vs. BROCK LESNAR :::commercial::: -Backstage, Lesnar worked out with a cocky smile on his face. -Highlights of Randy Orton's savage attack on Billy Gunn & Brian James were shown. "Evolution" played as Orton made his way to the ring, dressed for action. He said he'd made another notch in his belt, by destroying the "Legendary Tag Team of the New Age Outlaws". Since the WWE TV Title was to be defended on EVERY show, Gunn needed to hand it over. Billy Gunn ran to the ring, limping, in street clothes, and we had: 3. WWE TV Title Match Billy Gunn © Vs. Randy Orton -Orton regained the title in 8:10 after an RKO. Afterwards, Brian James entered the ring to attend to his former partner, and got into a brawl with Orton. Triple H ran to ringside and laid both Outlaws out with a chair. He then pedigreed James onto the chair, while Orton clipped Gunn's knee with the TV Title belt. Medical attention was given to the former Outlaws. -Backstage, Big Show laughed and said that Teddy Hart can expect the same. 4. The Big Show Vs. Teddy Hart -Hart scored a gigantic upset after a top rope hurancanrana caught Show by surprise in 3:15. Afterwards, Hart boasted about how he was the greatest rising star in WWE, and challenged the undefeated Kane for next week! Kane's pyro hit and the "big red monster" answered "NOWWWW...". Kane hit the ring. 5. Kane Vs. Teddy Hart -Kane destroyed Hart and pinned him after a chokeslam in 1:12. Afterwards, he delivered a vicious tombstone piledriver to the young Canadian. -Kane got on the mic and felt that everyone feared him, and that's why he's been overlooked in the World Title hunt. Kane said that he had entered the Royal Rumble match! From behind, The Big Show leveled Kane with a big boot and delivered a chokeslam to him! Big Show then announced that HE would win the Royal Rumble! :::commercial::: End of Hour 1

What's this "Booker T's stalker" angle stuff? Someone fill me in. Gail Kim was visibly upset with Trish after the "Chick Kick" hit Gail and cost her the match. They argued afterwards. I miss Gail Kim, her neat music, and blown spots. She had such a great ass, tho.

    Smackdown rating 3.4

Buyrates are low but the fans give a fuck about him. Ok. So the fans pop for him, I understand and will give you that. The fans also pop for the opening match jobbers because the show is starting. The fans pop for Jim Ross for some reason. The fans pop for Booker T's entrance. The fans pop for etc... Just because the fans give a reaction doesn't mean it should be SHOVED DOWN OUR THROATS or portrayed in MEANINGLESS SEGMENTS. If Vince gets pops, then use him as Vince, RUTHLESS OWNER, in small doses. Oh wait, that's been done. Instead we get VINCE MEETS SHANE, VINCE RECRUITS KANE, VINCE FIGHTS ONE LEGGED BOY, VINCE UNMASKS Mr. AMERICA, VINCE FIGHTS HIS DAUGHTER, VINCE PRAYS TO GOD WITH PREACHER, VINCE FUCKS SABLE, VINCE DANCES WITH CAT, VINCE DOES THAT... Vince sucks. Get the fuck off TV, your gimmick is shot to hell. Stop trying to be funny or imposing.

    Polite Request to the Recappers/Mods...

I think more, or at least the same, amount of people post at the forums then read the reviews. So I disagree with your whole point. I occassionally check out the columns, but I post or read the forum more b/c I like my opinion to be out. Considering the hundreds and hundreds (and in all threads, thousands) of forum posts each week, plus the number of people reading them, I'd think that the forum is more popular than 3-4 columns. If you believe that other people's thoughts are the reason for enjoyment, and you shouldn't free-think, and have the freedom of voice, contact Hitler, as he may have an opening for you.
