    Raw Preview 4/30/07

Maybe Foley's "huge angle" (which seems to be the new "Is HBK coming back?" circa 1998) has something WWE wants to carefully be able to edit if the content is questionable.

    Raw Preview 4/30/07

Jimmy Wayne Yang. I'm not following your question. Umaga and RVD could have an exciting garbage match at One Night Stand, so let's do the match on Raw instead. I hope Vince destroys the ECW Title tonight.

    Raw Preview 4/30/07

Uh, who exactly are they considering the "Raw tag teams"... Someone needs to inform the WWE.com writing staff that The Highlanders, TWGTT, and Cryme Tyme have permanent spots on Heat to fill up before Raw goes on the air. Raw has no other teams. Maybe Carlito/Flair finally gets the trigger pulled tonight and we find out just how bad a wrestling match can be.

"On RAW he's had at least one against Johnny Nitro and another one against Chris Masters which I remember was a Masterlock challenge also. It seems you're only counting PPVs so maybe you should check RAW or even SD! to be sure." I did count Raw. He hasn't defended the title on Smackdown!. He never defended it against Nitro, those were non-title bouts. At any rate, go Cena.

Forgot the Masterlock Challenge. A "Masterlock Challenge" isn't a wrestling match, so I skipped it in the results I was looking at. So yeah, seven. Cena has defeated Nitro on Raw at least twice, and Coach, and faced Umaga, but none of those were title matches.

Cena's movie is a mainstream rental smash, he's the fucking most over guy in the company, he continues to deliver great main events, he's the face of WWE, doesn't look like a cartoon, is a/the top merchandise mover, and can work well against a variety of styles so please tell me where he's The Honky Tonk Man, one of the most worthless wrestlers ever.

Michaels was probably smack-talking Cena because he's jealous that Cena's a bigger star and better world champion than Shawn was.

Yeah, I agree here. I just wish Raw could get some more main eventers developed besides Cena, Michaels, and Edge. Seriously. With the exception of a sprinkle of RVD...it's been: "The Champ is Here"..."I want MY title, Cena!"...and "The Showstopper is Back!" for over a year straight. When you're running a weekly show, and the champ's appearing on that show *AND* other shows like Smackdown occassionally (month of February, month of October), it gets old. I think a lot of the "SAME OLD SHIT" that gets thrown to Cena has to do with a lack of opponents. I dig Cena and hope he holds onto the belt until Survivor Series '07, by the way, getting absolutely squashed by Khali, taking the Rumble, and winning it back at WM 24. Cena F-U-ing the Never Pinned Great Khali outdoors in Florida would be fucking amazing.

Really, though, Michaels/Cena is the best match Raw has to offer with such an awful main event scene. Edge is the defacto heel #1, and his stuff with Cena has been done a million times. Orton's not getting a singles main event. Who else: They won't job Khali yet. If Taker/Batista can keep having good PPV matches despite LOUSY build-ups on Smackdown, that works. Vince/Shane/Lashley/Umaga stuff is filler, it's not like the ECW World Title means anything after the December to Dismember bomb. Not to mention "TEST: WORLD TITLE CONTENDER".

I thought Ari could've been a bit more raunchy to Arti's wife. That wasn't "frat boy talk". We don't do that shit to each other's girlfriends. It was lame. But if they were going that route, at least go the full route, instead of "DAMN, WHAT A BODY". That blowoff sucked. As did the obvious ending to the funny Lidell/Drama sequence. During the initial scenes I was like "THIS IS GONNA BE GREAT" and at the end, I was like "That's...It?" Edit: I just watched it again with more people and liked it better, but everyone saw the ending a mile away.

I just posted this in Backlash's thread, but I wanted to see a response from people who might not read that thread after the PPV. Cena's had 6 title defenses since winning the title at Unforgiven. 2 for Edge, 2 for Umaga, WM 23, and the 4-Way. Do you like the fact that you get a little less than 1 World Title match a month? Or do you think it's a good thing? I don't like the fact that, even if they don't have a chance, guys like Nitro aren't getting title shots, even as fodder. It'd at least put them on the map if the match was hyped for several weeks. Even on a throwaway Raw. In the same light, it makes Cena's title matches feel more special at the PPVs...

Tonight was only Cena's 6th title defense since winning the belt at Unforgiven last year. I find that interesting, less than 1 title defense per month. And I like it that way.

Judgment Day Predictions: TAKER VS. BATISTA - Hell in a Cell MICHAELS VS. CENA - Final "Rubber" Match - Gimmick LASHLEY VS. UMAGA - If Lashley Wins, Gets ECW Title Shot at ONE NIGHT STAND EDGE VS. ORTON LONDON & KENDRICK VS. DUECE & DOMINO KENNEDY VS. FINLAY (feud restarted after being scrapped for Backlash build) BENOIT VS. MVP VS. HELMS

Yeah, I like Edge a lot. I just think putting him anywhere NEAR Cena is bad news. Because it makes the fans see Edge as "the guy Cena beat last year" (despite Edge having some luck against him, Edge never could beat him clean and Cena usually always made him look idiotic). So Edge falls into a category of bad opponents for Cena, despite Edge being a pretty good opponent for everyone else. Plus, let's get some new main eventers elevated.

Tonight's episode was better than last week's but not as good as two weeks ago. It felt like an awesome payoff for both Ari and Drama's storyline was coming but both ended kinda lame.

"I even enjoyed a Batista match, would you believe." You must have missed WM 23 and Batista's best match ever. Funny, on the Smackdown! before WM 23 Batista said, and I quote, "I will have the best match of my career."

    The OaO Backlash 2007 thread.

Quote: You say "Been There Done That" in reference to EDGE but not Cena? What are you smoking, exactly? Did you read by post fully? If you did, you'd see "Been There, Done That" was a reference to Edge having already had an extended run as Cena's top nemesis. How could Cena be Cena's top nemesis? Edge is fun, and works hard, and can talk, but answer this: did you realistically think Edge could win tonight? No, because, ahem, they've been there, and done that, all last year, and Cena vanquished him as the #1 heel...for now.

Nice, Cena's title reign continues. He's one of the only good things on Raw. I've grown to like him since the Rumble over his shitty opponents like Too Gimmicky Umaga, Old Michaels, Resthold Orton, and Been There Done That Edge.
