They took Cherilus according to the bottom scroll And I can't believe 17 picks in and they miss a fucking pick already
-
Jesus Christ, shut the fuck up so they'll announce the pick
-
Poor DeAngelo Williams. I like Stewart, but Williams can't catch a break. The way this is going one of those OTs might actually slip to 19 so there is no threat of the Eagles reaching for Cherilus, which would be awesome.

4 Picks for 1 in the same draft is cheap? Well alright if you say so... Using "the chart" #8 overall - 1600 pt #26 - 700 points #71 - 235 #89 - 145 #125 - 47 = 1127 I figured moving up that much would at least include their second rounder, if not next year's 1st. Given the lack of a player on the board at the time, plus the depth of this draft getting less value isn't a problem just kinda surprising.
-
That was actually cheaper than I thought for the Jags to move up that much. But given there was no one on the board, save the money and stockpile the picks. The one problem I see for the Ravens is that they have now set the floor if another team wants to get back in for a QB. Any team wanting back into round 1 has to get above 26 and that might screw the Ravens up.

Except for the fact that from the view showing Richards from the front he clearly puts his shoulder into Kovalev. Like I said, from the view behind Richards it clearly looked like a trip, so I can't fault the call. But there was no doubt he hit him with the shoulder from the other angle. And to piggy back corpse's point, this is two straight games where someone has thrown something at a Flyer. I eagerly await when one Philly fan does something stupid and everyone plays it off as the idiotic Philly fans as opposed to a retaliation for two other dickhead fanbases (to be fair at least Montreal is a real fanbase).
-
That is not what they called it though. Clement said the league office said they had "conclusive" evidence that it wasn't a high stick.
-
The call on Richards was a bad break, but from behind him I can see why the ref would think it was a trip. But I do want to know how they could say "conclusively" that the puck was not hit with a high stick. At best you can say the replays were inconclusive, so the call on the ice stands.

Until that last incredible save, I think Biron played the worst period a goalie ever had without giving up a goal. Hopefully as the game wears on Stevens doesn't shorten his bench as Thoreson and Downie were cycling like monsters.

A NY Daily News article after last season's playoffs says it is Niedermayer with 4. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/hockey/2..._cup_print.html I can't believe the Caps haven't put this one away yet.

Every team from 2-16 is potentially screwed with Long taking a five year deal instead of the potential six year. Why would anybody representing one of those 15 guys take a six year deal when the person above them didn't have one? I eagerly await the Dolphins still managing to wait through nine and a half minutes before announcing the selection.

I seriously doubt they would pose any challenge to Montreal. Their team defense is just horrible right now. They can be cycled on for days in their own zone. Here is a sadly, amusing list that Bill Meltzer over on Eklund's site (yes, there is at least one very good writer over there) made up to show the Philly defensive pairings on every Washington goal. See if you can find the common trends. Game 1 Modry and Smith out for Brashear's goal (ESG) Modry and Smith out for Steckel's goal (ESG) Modry and Smith out for Green's first goal (ESG) Modry and Smith out for Green's second goal (PPG) Modry and Kukkonen out for Ovechkin's goal (ESG) Game 2 (2-0 shutout) Game 3 Modry and Smith out for Fehr's goal (ESG) Modry and Smith out for Green's goal (PPG) Modry and Smith out for Laich's goal (ESG) Game 4 Modry and Smith out for Bäckström's goal (PPG) Modry and Smith out for Semin's goal (PPG) Modry and Smith out for Eminger's goal (ESG) Game 5 Modry and Smith out for Bäckström's goal (5-on-3 PPG) Timonen and Coburn out for Fedorov's goal (ESG) Hatcher and Jones out for Semin's goal (PPG) Game 6 (Modry finally, mercifully benched thus accounting for the lack of his presence in this game) Kukkonen and Smith out for Bäckström's goal (ESG) Hatcher and Smith out for Semin's goal (ESG) Timonen and Coburn out for Ovechkin's first goal (ESG) Timonen and Coburn out for Ovechkin's second goal (PPG)

BTW, draft starts at 3pm this year. First two rounds on Saturday, then they pick up from round 3 at 10am on Sunday.
-
At this rate, the Flyers should have just stayed in Philly and rested up for game 6. They're just getting run out of the building and are lucky to be down just 2-0.
-
As an Eagles fan... Fuck that. We can get more for Lito Sheppard. I don't know. I think the value itself is reasonable (moving up 9 spots would probably be similar to a high second) and may be something the Eagles consider if they really want one of the OTs (a likelihood given the latest projections). I would rather have the 2nd rounder though, in this case we'll use the Saints #40 pick as I just don't like what looks to be in the #10 area. Of course, I would rather keep Lito than do either of those, but I think that ship has sailed.

Definitely a great draft if you are looking for a RB. But that is pretty much spot on. Any time there is no glamour prospect it gets knocked. It is the type of draft where the Falcons are money with a ton of 2s. The first round might not be great (unless someone slips I am not a huge fan of the Eagles 19th slot), but there is still going to be a solid draft board when the third round rolls around. And I don't know if I would go in with such high expectations of NFLN coverage. I didn't have NFLN for the 07 draft, but judging by last year's draft thread they quit keeping track of current selections just as early as ESPN. The real thing that kills ESPN's coverage for me is that dickhole Berman tipping picks. Obviously he can't do an event without shoving his fucking face right to the forefront.

I don't know if there was ever any doubt, even with McNair on board, that Baltimore jumps on Ryan if he slips that far.
-
I agree and disagree with you. I am not a huge Ryan guy and am actually in line with Peter King (ewww, that felt dirty to type). What did Brohm really do that much worse this year to drop him from a top 5-10 pick last year to his status this year? It isn't his fault that his team apparently never heard of the concept of "defense". The only problem I have with Brohm, is that he may not make it to them in the second round. Sure they have a bunch of ammo in round 2 to move up into round 1, but they need enough that I wouldn't do that if I were them. So Ryan makes sense to me. So while I don't think the dropoff to Brohm is that big, I think it would hurt them to be forced to use the extra picks to go get him. ex. I would rather have Matt Ryan and then a group of say James Hardy/Malcolm Kelly, Sam Baker and Cliff Avril/Trevor Laws instead of Glenn Dorsey and then using the 3 2nds to move up and grab Brohm I was actually looking at this earlier, about who was going to be around at the Eagles pick and thinking if Brohm picked up enough steam that Atlanta needed to use all 3 2nds that I would jump on that in a heartbeat instead of the mediocre group likely to be at 19.

I am hoping the triple axle Ovechkin performed is the last dive we ever see from him. I love watching him, but if he becomes another Crosby the NHL is fucked.
-
Sounds like Thoreson is going to get to keep both his berries and is potentially in the lineup tomorrow.
-
Excellent job by the Flyers of shitting the bed in the 3rd period. Not often does a team take over a game like that in the second and just completely forget to show up in the third. Either way, going by tonight's game, neither of these teams gets past Pittsburgh or Montreal.
-
Ok, I am not one to get on Ovechkin for the goal celebrations, as it is nice to see someone having fun out there. But the man pile the Caps had after tying the game at 4 like they just scored a game 7 OT winner to win the cup was pretty gay. And Jaroslav Modry still sucks at life
-
I don't see the refs letting Washington lose that game. The over/under on Washington power plays is going to be around 10. I'd say there would be a sniper in the stands to take out Olli Jokinen, but the NHL owners are probably too cheap to spring for one. I don't mind as I'd certainly rather watch Ovechkin than Carolina in the playoffs.
-
Funniest (and saddest) thing I have seen in a game in a long time: The Flyers/Pens game is getting all kinds of chippy. Early fight between Cote/Laraque, then the refs let Lupul go with Orpik. But after a scrum, Lasse fucking Kukkonen (a UFC fighter on skates if I have ever seen one ) drops the gloves with the Lord Almighty Crosby and those linesmen jump in like it was Bob Probert in his prime throwing down with the Savior.

The Flyers would be better off just throwing a Shooter Tutor in net for shootouts. Couldn't do any worse than Biron at them. All told though, I am happy to get one point out of a trip to Jersey, but jesus christ letting the Devils go 3-for-3 (a very uncontested 3-for-3 at that) in a shootout is just sad.
