The TSM 2008 NFL Mock Draft

With the 49th pick, the Philadelphia Eagles select.....Felix Jones, RB, Arkansas I don't care if he never sees a down behind the QB. He is being brought in to be the return man. Anything else is gravy. Enough of this Reno Mahe abortion of special teams. No one else is considered for this pick and anyone between myself and the official table where the card get dropped off would be run over. After he dropped to 40th, I would have offered this pick and a 4th rounder to everyone to move up and get him.

To be fair, every FA pulls the whole going somewhere to win card. Once in a blue moon does someone give the honest, "I am getting X amount of dollars". He did sound like a retard though during his press conference. Not from that quote, but the fact he sounded like he could barely speak english.

According to our local CSN, the Eagles actually offered more to Moss than the Patriots. So he may have left money on the table to go back to NE.

If you need another past his prime Eagle there's always Kearse. I'm sure he'll produce more than Trotter did last year. And by that I mean he may actually step on the field for a play or two before getting hurt.

Off the top of my head I want to say he is overpaid, but given the way to salary cap jumps so much every season anymore top or even second level FAs really don't become available (due to the franchise tag and early big money resignings) teams have to "overpay" to grab the guy in a thin FA market. So while I think it is surprising that there is a market where a Bernard Berrian can get that kind of dea, no I don't think he was overpaid. Anymore the average team seems to have $15+ mil in cap space going into the offseason, so you kind of have to adjust the view you look at the contracts with.

I'm surprised the Eagles got Clemons for 5/18. In this market, where Justin Smith is getting 6/45, a young guy with the ability to get to the QB I thought would cost more. He should be a nice rotational DE with Juqua and Abiamiri getting some more reps in his 2nd season. They still need to take a DE in the draft, but at least now it can be one to groom to replace Howard next year as opposed to getting someone who has to step in this season.

I love when someone says something so stupid, it lets you know you can ignore everything they ever say again. Discussing the deal, Ike Reese (he's become a local talking head since retiring) said he would not have signed Samuel, instead he would have signed Jerry Porter as his big priority today and gone after a lesser CB. Disregarding the stupid money Porter got, what the hell has Jerry Porter done to be anyone's priority?

Eagles sign Samuel for 6 yrs, no terms yet. Also sounds like Chris Clemons is all but signed and will be in tomorrow. Going to be interesting to see how the next domino falls with Lito.

Just went there for the first time a second ago, just to see if it had turned into a madhouse yet. 65 pages within an hour and a half to two hours off the GCobb report was enough to show that yes indeed it had become a zoo.

I am going to be pissed if Samuel doesn't sign in the next half hour, because I want to go to sleep. The rumor around here is that he has an agreement with the Eagles, but so did LeCharles Bentley. So I'll believe it when I see it.

I think he meant Prospal takes over the Flyers second line with Mike Richards injured. I can't see that being the case though. IMO this trade is pointless unless you attach him to Briere's hip. They aren't going anywhere if Danny doesn't start chipping in something and playing with a new winger every game is not going to help the cause.

Well, California (and all it's sister tracks) usually does suck. I think the big thing to take away from the first two races is that if he can keep the fenders on the car all year, Kyle Busch is going to be the one to take on and beat Gordon and Johnson. He always had the talent, but this past six months IMO will be what turns him into a champion. You know he is the type to make it his mission to bring down Hendrick after they dumped him. He is definitely not the turn the other cheek character in the garage.

Can't complain about getting Prospal for a song. Certainly don't think he is going to continue the production he had in TB, but they needed a forward with the ability to actually score a goal. Not huge on getting rentals for this season, but again for peanuts there is nothing to hurt the long term.

By the sounds of it Woodson may be lucky to still be in the second round. It sounds like he has really taken a fall. I have a hard time seeing Stewart falling out of round 1, but it would not be completely shocking. With the RB depth in this draft a lot of teams might pass on RB in round 1 given you can find one in rounds 2 and 3.

The problem I see with Kearse is that I don't think he is going to sign for the money that would fit his usefulness. If he could be had on the cheap (like the Pats scenario) and you send him in as a stand up rusher on third downs he may still have something left. Unfortunately he will probably want something along the lines of starter money, which he is clearly not suited for at this point.

So does DeSean Jackson measuring in at the Combine at 5'9" and 167 lbs. knock him out of the first round? As much as I think he fits the Eagles need for a WR/return man, I would have a hard time justifying a first round pick on a guy that small. A guy like Steve Smith may be short, but at least he is thicker. I have a hard time believing someone with Jackson's frame could survive an NFL schedule intact.

On the Philly feed, just before the closing shot they caught Knuble throwing his hand in the air and saying "what the fuck was that?" I think that sums up Briere's attempt nicely.

The TSM 2008 NFL Mock Draft

With the 19th pick the Eagles select Kenny Phillips, S, Miami Once Harvey came off the board, the choice in my mind came down to two players that had disappointing years in Miami: Phillips and Calais Campbell. Phillips allows Brian Dawkins to move to SS where he is not as big of a liability in coverage now that he has lost a step. Other options included the above mentioned Campbell, Phillip Merling, a dream pick of Mendenhall (a Westbrook-Mendenhall backfield would be sick), and the one weapon I was almost willing to take in the monster James Hardy. I know it would be too early for Hardy, but he would not be there in the second round and I really like him.

Things could get interesting if they put Gagne on LTI. That would open up a nice chunk of cap room.

As much as I love Lito when he is on the field, he isn't on the field enough to warrant throwing a hissy fit over his contract (what this is reportedly about). He has played 34 games over the last three years and that number includes games where he was in and out or just left early. If they put his money towards another CB and get a solid pick back for him, well....thanks for the cap room Lito. I do think it makes a safety a necessary though, as I don't want them moving Brown back to S if they are losing Lito. Even if they bring someone else in his spot. Two new starting CBs in what is always made to sound like a complicated defensive scheme has bad news written all over it.
