To everyone busting my balls about the NBA thread,
the pinjockey replied to a topic in No Holds Barred
And? I think that one thread should be all you need, apart from major exceptions. Plus it'll keep the conversation going on track for a long time. Although it gets nowhere near as much traffic, the OAO soccer thread is a good example, as everyone knows where to go to gloat and bitch about the sport. Johnson is right in this case. If you don't wanna post there about major issues, start a new thread. But it saves wasting bandwidth on trivial threads which could just go into one. But, take the Shaq vs. Kobe thread for example. The first response in the thread was "already posted in the OaO" thus killing the conversation in the thread. That is a major story that might have had discussion, but no one is going to want to go to the one and only, mixing it in with other stuff. If it was just going to be a OaO NBA chatter, what's going on in games tonight thread, then that is fine. But it won't happen. The first major story thread not posted in the OaO, was already told it was in the OaO. -
But Buffy season 7 produced 22 hours of TV. Not hundreds of hours with different stories and teams like the NBA. Plus like I stated in the NHB thread. Buffy = narrow subject in broad folder that should be kept together NBA = broad subject in narrow folder that doesn't need to be crammed together

Let's see Buffy = very narrow topic in a very broad folder NBA = very broad topic in a narrower folder Over the course of an NBA season there are going to be many big stories that are not worth going through the one and only for and mixing in the normal goings on of the season. Christ, if we had OaO threads for sports, there would only be five or six threads max. -
Yes, because lord knows no team would want to take on a good reliever just because of some legal troubles. If an athlete performs at Nelson's level, problems are forgiven. And isn't Murray about one dotted i from being Orioles manager.

The One and Only Raw Thread (October 27th, 2003)

Wait, so it has turned into Bischoff/Austin again as opposed to Jericho/Austin? Man, what a shocking development. -
Wow, what a statement that you are going to resign all your players. Wait what do you mean you don't see that anywhere in the paragraph? There may not be a fire sale, but unless they decide to bump up the payroll big time, there is no way they will keep everyone. Lowell and Lee are going to get hefty raises in arbitration. Someone, somewhere will overpay Castillo and Urbina. And after this year, I think, Pudge can get a multiyear deal this time. So they will have to decide on a big contract for him.

East Coast team vs. West Coast team. I think East-East or West-West (such as last year) is a death knell that immediately kills interest in half the country. A new big city team (Dodgers, Cubs, Phillies, Red Sox) that provides the national type attention while not being done to death like the Yankees. And cinderella teams will draw, I believe, but they have been done to death the last few years. It is almost , as if, you can go into the postseason picking a cinderella team to make the WS.

I care about the ratings, because the more people that watch it, the better it is for baseball. This was an opportunity to get some casual fans back into the game, but it didn't happen. And just as much as I don't buy the flukes idea, I don't buy the Marlins fans got shit on idea either. Marlins fans got a title 4 or 5 years into their existence. As a fan of the Flyers, Eagles, and Phillies I have had 0 titles in my 22 years as a fan. If one of those teams were to provide a title, I don't care if they played minor leaguers and went 0 for the next 6 years I would still be a fan.
-
I don't buy the flukes part. People didn't watch for the Marlins, because a.) no one really cares about the Marlins and b.) they were just the cinderella story a few years ago. It had nothing to do with them not being deserving of being there.
-
I don't think the Yankees getting to the WS killed it. The Marlins beating the Cubs killed it. Cubs/Yankees and Cubs/Red Sox were both money. Marlins/Yankees proved to be nothing, and Marlins/Red Sox I don't think appeals as much as either Cubs series.
-
My guess would be they lose in Denver and lose in Minnesota, ending up 14-2. Denver will be a tough, divisional game and by Minnesota I think they won't have much to play for, while the Vikings will be fighting for the division.

Well, I am pleased with the addition of Eric LeBeau to our team. Pitchers seem to have a longer development time in this league, so I think this pick is more for next year than this year. But with our team, we need to rebuild and this is a good first step. Ideally, we get the type of performance that Ben Dover provided to his team in his rookie year, a 150-200 inning eating pitcher who can give us a chance to win some games. Next year, when we are in a better position to contend, we need to draft a speed leadoff hitter.

There's a demand trade option, right? please say yes, please say yes

I haven't gone back through the thread, but has anyone made the suggestion of capitalization yet? It would be your friend and actually get people to a.) read the thread and b.) take you seriously.

After watching years of Phillies games and seeing them kill them, I will vouch for the fact that if the pitch didn't hit the dirt or make the catcher dive a foot away from the plate to catch the pitch, they got the call.

Flik, if you see this before the games start, Holcomb isn't starting.
-
I am assuming that Kitna = Kittner? In that case I go with Holcomb, I just don't see Kittner doing anything to warrant a start. Hell, if he does bad they might just bring Johnson back in. If Kitna=Kitna, then start Kitna easily.

I think you are starting to stretch a little now. People acknowledge George's money, but people also realize how much Torre meant to that team. Although it would be nice if he decided to go somewhere else and enhance his image. Maybe a couple hours south to help a team move into a new ballpark and win a title. um yeah...he needs to prove himself somewhere else, fire him George
-
I seriously doubt this is going to diminish the image of Joe Torre as a great manager.

Once you request a post of your own, you immediately get eliminated Plunderin. Question to Yankees fans (any, but AS and Sandman specifically): Do you guys appreciate the championships? I'm not asking as in "you ungrateful fucks", I am just wondering if you get the type of joy that Mik for example is getting right now.

Bud Selig is going to have a hard time, telling the other owners that he needs to open the purse strings for a 100-125 million dollar contract. It is going to hurt them in finding a buyer, but as I see it now the doors aren't exactly being knocked down with offers and they can't afford to keep the team together.
-
If the Yankees had just lost I would agree with you guys saying the Yankees fans should be happy to be there. But when a team quits on you, it kills you. From experience this year, Flyers/Sens. I don't care that the Flyers lost, but I care that the Flyers didn't seem to give a shit. And I wanted them to blow the whole team up.

There is no way the Expos are keeping Vlad, unless he gives them a hefty hefty discount. That is possible, since he loves it there, but it is not something to plan on.

That has alot to do with the Mets clubhouse that somehow sucks all the talent out of anyone passing through it. No, no, no. It was all QuestTec's fault. It made the umps not be able to give him the pitches 6 inches off the plate like he always got. By doing the dastardly thing of making him pitch in the strike zone, MLB proved they were out to get him.
