Benoit is 'just a transitional champion'...

I remeber that confidential piece pissing me off. The WWE and their revisionist history also tried giving the Raw world title the NWA title lineage as well. Mean Gene said the "NWA title morphed into the WCW title" which is crap since they were never the same title.

Benoit is 'just a transitional champion'...

HHH has 8 combined World titles. So far here is my list of the most. Ric Flair (w/17) 8 NWA, 7 WCW, & 2 WWE - I counted the September NWA/WCW 1991 title reign as one. Hulk Hogan (w/12) 6 WWE & 6 WCW Verne Gagne (w/10) all from AWA The Rock (w/9) 8 WWE & 1 WCW Triple H (w/8) 5 WWE & 3 Raw World titles Bret Hart (w/7) 5 WWE & 2 WCW Sting (w/7) 1 NWA & 6 WCW

    Possible future wrestler DVD's

They should make a another DVD in the style of bloodbath, but have it be Wrestlings Most Incredible Cruiserweight Matches. I think a DVD like this would be hot seller. Matches I would put on would be: Dynamite Kid vs Tiger Mask (It is for the WWF Junior Heavyweight title but I am not sure if they own the footage.) Brian Pillman vs Jushin Liger - WCW light Heavyweight title (I belive it was Superbrawl 1 or 2) Chris Benoit vs Eddy Guerrero (Any of their Saturday Night matches) Rey Misterio jr vs Ultimo Dragon - World War 3 Taka Michinoku vs The Great Sasuke - Canadian Stampede Those are just off the top of head but there are many more matches that I would add.

He might be a good storyteller. Benoit seems better at doing a taped segment than being on a live mic.

    Bill Simmons Wrestlemania Diary

But that means everyone if you stopped watching wrestling. If you stopped watching in 94 and someone said Austin was champion in 98 you would say what the hell. You would not believe that HHH is the most dominant heel in WWE history if you stopped watching in 96. I could go on and on but I think I'll stop.
  12. Excerpts from the 3/15 Wrestling Observer Newsletter The plan for the Benoit vs Michaels vs HHH Mania match to be a ladder match was changed. At this point, the plan is for HHH vs Benoit on 4/18 in Edmonton at Backlash to be a ladder match, I'm guessin the feeling was that it would be stronger for the World title match at Mania to end with a 1-2-3. Based on the interview on Raw calling the match the main event, the presumptionis it will go on last and will go 30-35 minutes. They did tryouts last weekend to work it out. The basics of the match look to be that there will be one guy injured and the other two will work their spots until someone (most likely HHH as the heel) is just about done, and the other face will stagger and recover just in time to make the save and keep the match going. Patt Patterson and Michael Hayes came to the Baltimore show to give input to all three guys for how to help the Mania match. Beside the HOF inductees, there will be other 80s/90s WWF names that will be in at wrestlemania and HOF banquet who were asked to present the awards. Harley Race asked Flair to present his award and I believe Jim Ross will be presenting Bobby Heenan with his. When Rock was on "Richard & Judy" prime time talk show in the UK plugging "Welcome to the Jungle," (as "The Rundown" is being called internationally) he noted that his WWE contract expires next year. Bob Backlund turned the WWE HOF induction after at first agreeing. He said he didn't think the time was right when he declined. No word on whether Pete Rose thing had anything to do with it but there were people who were really into the honor and now feel a little different about it. With Edge and Benoit moving from Smackdown to Raw, there is a good chance, although not finalized, that Van Dam would be moving in the other direction. At this point there are no plans for either Undertaker or Kane to switch sides, and the program at last word is scheduled to end at Mania.

    Who should take Lesnar's spot?

I think it is time for the WWE to look to the future and that future is Shelton Benjamin. I know breaking up WGTT will kill the tag division but is neccesary to buid a new top heel. Bring Teddy Long over as his manager and have him feud with Cena for the US title. By Summerslam or Survivor Series, Benjamin will be ready to take the top heel spot and be WWE champion. In the mean time, have Chris Jericho win on Sunday and just when you think he and Trish are going to kiss, have him push her down and have him become full fledged heel again. He will then move back to Smackdown and become their #1 heel until Shelton Benjamin is ready.

WWE Notes from the 3/8 Observer

Monday update from the Wrestling Observer Website --ProWrestlingInsider.com reported earlier today that Brock Lesnar may be taking time off after the Smackdown European tour which ends on 3/21 and that all post-Mania plans for him are being rewritten. The report was that Lesnar was unhappy about being removed from the top of the card and that his next planned program was being fed to Undertaker to get over the old Undertaker gimmick as an unstoppable monster. It is no secret that Lesnar wasn't handling the demotion as no longer being in the title picture well, and that Undertaker part of the story has been going around since Royal Rumble time. As of checking on things, the story is accurate but it's an issue that still hasn't been resolved as to how it's ending up. But it's not even guaranteed at this point that he's even doing the European tour. --Add Rikishi & Scotty vs. APA vs. Bashams vs. Haas & Benjamin for the Smackdown tag belts to Wrestlemania. --We will try and update this later with any funeral information on Ray Fernandez (Hercules Hernandez), who died of an apparent heart attack on Saturday morning. --Chris Jericho was on ESPN 2's Cold Pizza this morning. He came off well, saying that Martha Stewart was going to do a run-in during the three-way Raw title match for a little "Better Homes and Beatings." Jericho said that when Pete Rose was turned down by the baseball Hall of Fame, he is now going to be inducted into a more prestigious Hall of Fame. He was clearly kidding. He said his favorite Wrestlemania was last year's because of his match with Michaels, which he said stole the show. He said his back story with Trish and Christian was like a "Days of Our Lives" storyline. --Apparently the Flair/Foley deal last night in Baltimore was a home run. It will be interesting to see if they try and redo it tonight. The main item on Raw is "This is your life, Mick Foley," hosted by Rock, and no doubt Flair, Orton and Batista will show up at some point (thanks to Clancy Gilpatrick) --Wrestlemania XX will be released on VHS & DVD on 4/27, as will WWE Divas South of the Border (thanks to Michael Carpenter) --Based on the comments we got, apparently last night's radio show was really good. It's sometimes hard for me to tell, because Bobby Heenan has been historically one of our best guests. The show will be replayed next Sunday, and we will probably be getting Heenan back on in a month or so, after Mania and maybe around Cauliflower Alley time. --TV Guide Online has a listing of the ten biggest stars of the Wrestlemania era, and please don't laugh. Actually, they are broken up into five men, Hogan, Undertaker, Austin, Michaels and HHH. I said, don't laugh. And five women: Moolah, Trish Stratus, Wendi Richter, Sable and Chyna.
  15. The following is an excerpt from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Over the past few days, we've done a survey regarding the best and worst Wrestlemanias, as well as the best match in the history of Wrestlemania. We've done two surveys, one of which involved people inside the buisness, most within WWE, and the other wich involves people also sent the same survey who are not in the buisness but are long time fans who I happened to get copies out to before my computer crashed and destroyed my adress book. As it turned out, WWE will be doing a "Ten Greatest Matches in Wrestlemania History" TV special on Spike TV on 3/9 at 9pm. They claim the votes are from the superstars, and I think it'll be interesting because I'm expecting them to turn out very different from the votes here. I thought it would be interesting to see the difference, if there even is one, in viewpoints between wrestlers and those who work or worked for the company, and those who haven't. Best Wrestlemania In History Within Buisness 1. Wrestlemania III (24) 2. Wrestlemania X-7 (23) 3. Wrestlemania XIX (7) 4. Wrestlemania X (5) 5. Wrestlemania VI (..4) Not Within Buisness 1. But let me just give you an odd quote he made in the Newsletter. "Still, he (Angle) and Lesnar came one botched shooting star press away from being in consideration for the best match in Mania History."

    WMXX: Pop of the night?

I have a feeling that the New York crowd will be on the side of Benoit, not Michaels. He won't get pop of night, that will go to Taker. The only way someone will get a bigger pop is if Hulk Hogan or Bret Hart make a surprise apperance. But those two are not going to go, so it will be Taker.

    Wednesday News Update

From the Observer Website --No word regarding Bob Backlund and the WWE Hall of Fame other than his name wasn't released by the company when all the names were announced yesterday so he's not being inducted. --The Pete Rose Hall of Fame deal got a decent amount of publicity, particularly on ESPN and TSN in Canada. TSN's Sports Center last night at 6:30 p.m. covered it in the opening tease as one of the major four items. It was also mentioned on ESPN's Around the Horn and Pardon the Interruption. Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon noted that it's a Hall of Fame where dignity is not a part of it. Of course, I don't know a Hall of Fame where dignity is a part of it. Neither ESPN show mentioned Wrestlemania XX. ESPN Sports Center mentioned it as well as a light-hearted news note. Jim Rome's web site has a column ripping on Rose, making fun of the fact the WWE Hall of Fame is such a prestigious deal that they are paying him to show up. "What says, 'honor', 'dignity' and 'respect' quite like a paid appearance at the Wrestling Hall of Fame?" thanks to Adam Lebow, Jeff Rozner and others) --ESPN's Outside the Lines had a mention of pro wrestling in a steroid piece last night. I didn't see the piece but apparently they had two people talking about it and one said they weren't that dangerous and the other pointed to pro wrestling's early deaths saying that they might be. (thanks to Scott Ret) --Newsday in New York will be doing a major history of Wrestlemania story in Sunday's newspaper. --For the U.K., Sky at this point has scheduled Velocity from 11 p.m. until midnight on 3/14 followed by Wrestlemania listed from midnight to 5 a.m. on Sky 1 (thanks to Ian Hamilton) --After Raw, Rock (who is scheduled for Raw this coming Monday in Bridgeport, CT) left for the U.K. He did the Richard & Judy show on Ch. 4 promoting "Welcome to the Jungle," (The Rundown), which is being released on 3/26 in the U.K. Richard the host talked about Rock's days in college and his first date (all covered in his autobiography). There was no mention of Wrestlemania --The WWE web site is reporting Randy Orton has a virus and won't be making his scheduled guest appearance for an autograph session in Bridgeport on Friday night. --Bobby Heenan will be doing a book tour for "Chair Shots and Other Obstacles," which has just been released. He will be at Walden Books at the Walt Whitman Mall in Huntington Station, NY on 3/12 at 7 p.m. He will be at Bookends in Ridgewood, NJ on 3/13 at 1 p.m. He will be at Barnes & Noble in Carmel, IN on 3/18 at 7 p.m He will be at Borders in Schaumburg, IL on 3/19 at 7 p.m. He will be at Barnes & Nobles in Maple Grove, MN on 4/2 at 7 p.m. and at RVD's 5-Star Comics in Lakewood, CA at the Lakewood Mall on 4/13 at 7 p.m. Heenan will also be our guest this coming Sunday night on Wrestling Observer Live. Heenan will also appear on Mancow's show between 8 and 10 a.m. on 3/19

    WWE media appearances before Wrestlemania

My only problem about their madia blitz is there lack of Eddy. Sure he is on Mad TV but he is supposed to be WWE Champion. As champion he should be making the TV show apperances. At the very least they could have had both Eddy and HHH (the two champions) on Live with Regis & Kelly.

10 worst WWF/E buyrates of all time

Look, both Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels both drew dick. That is a fact, wether you want to blame general lack of interest in wrestling at the time or a shitty undercard, it still comes out the same. Now with that said, Bret drew more than Shawn because Bret was a champion longer. Betweem 1992 and 1997 Bret Hart was champion for 654 days. Shawn was champion from 1996 to 1998 for 397 days. Bret was the guy that was chosen to be the top guy in the WWE. He caried it from the Hulkamania era to the Attitude era. The numbers should have been better for 96 but the WWE made the stupid mistake of putting the title on Nash for a year.

    The Mania of Wrestlemania

This Tuesday is the Wrestlemania 10 greatest matches (which I probably won't see since the Shield will be on). The Mania of Wrestlemania is the Wrestlemania Movie they were talking about last year. They tried to release it last year but could not find anyone interested enough. They are going to show it on UPN at 8pm the Friday before Wrestlemania XX.

    Wednesday News Update

As far as Nascar is concerned, it is not really my type of thing. At the same time I don't want to bash it and come off as an elitist. It is one of the things that pisses me off when I go to MMA forums like Sherdog. To a lot of the posters there, Pro Wrestling is like the work of the devil. To them wrestlers are "phonies who would get owned in MMA." They also get enraged at the fact that PRIDE is promoting a Pro Wrestling cards and cross promotes between the two. I like both Pro Wrestling and MMA so I do not like people talking crap about either one (something ESPN does). So I get why Nascar fans get upset about the redneck thing and other comments.

Early No Way Out PPV estimates

He shouldn't get credit because he was not even in a match. Add to the fact that Armageddon got 30,000 less buys than NWO, for a show that had Goldberg, HHH, and Michaels in actual matches.

    Say goodbye to Super-Size

It dosen't affect me since I think they have shitty food to begin with. I do agree about making their happy meals more healthy. Kids today seem to be getting fatter and it seems parents just do not care about what they give their kids to eat. Then they will get older and America will retain its title of fattest country in the world.
