A cardinals fan made this concept logo I like it, but it does look kind of like a chicken
-
Why don't they just change the name of the team to something more Arizona. I think the Arizona Rattlers would be a good name. They should buy that name from the Arena League team. The Cardinals name (know matter how old it is) just does not fit Phoenix.

LT's numbers went down this year because his hamstring was injured for a good portion of the season. If you want to know how good LT really is, look to last year. He was stuck behind a horrible Offensive line and opposing defenses stacked the line against him even more so last year. Yet he still became the first RB in NFL history to run for 1,000 yards and catch 100 passes. and he still didn't get to go to the Pro Bowl last year.

I always thought Juvi was better off without the mask. He was a pretty good looking guy. He should have been pushed as an overbearing latin lothario.

I was born and raised in San Diego so my favorite teams have always been the Padres and Chargers. I did root for the Angels in 2002 when they reached the playoffs but it was only for that post season.
-
Well, the Chargers did more than I ever expected them to do this year. For the first time in a long time, I actually have real hope for next year. They get two first round pick and have a lot of cap room. As for the Game, it is what it was. I won't complain about Schottenheimer or how the play calling resembled last years Chargers instead of this years Chargers. The Jets made more plays and got the win. I hope the Colts lose tommorow and will be looking forward to next years game against Eli Manning and the Giants.

I believe the Chargers are planning to switch back to their old AFL powder blue uniform in 2006.

I think people are really overrating DePodesta's trade last year. The Dodgers did not win because of it, they won despite it. Think about who they got and what they did last year. Brad Penny - played 3 games and was injured the rest of the second half Hee Seop Choi - was regulated to the bench for the whole second half when he couldn't hit to save his life. What they did give up hurt them more than what they got back. The catching position was a platoon of David Ross & Brent Mayne and their bullpen really struggled down the stretch even with the emergence of Yhency Brozoban. When that trade took place the Dodgers had just took 2 out of 3 from the Padres to widen their lead in the NL West. The Dodgers stumbled down the stretch to let the Giants back into the race and came close to losing it. What helped DePodesta was Steve Finley falling into his lap, not the 6 player trade. As far as him stripping down the team, that is his right, even if the LA fans despise him and moneyball. The only real mistake I think he made this year is breaking up that middle infield of Izturis and Cora. Jeff Kent is nowhere near the defensive 2nd baseman that Alex Cora is. Why mess with the best middle infield in baseball?

The name is just a ploy by Moreno. No one is going to refer to them as the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, they are just going to call them the Los Angeles Angels or the LA Angels. But when the city of Anaheim sues him over the name, he will just point out that Anaheim is still part of their official name, even though he knows full well that no one will call them by their long official name. Smart move by Arte. The Angels might as well be called the Los Angels Angels. They have a 100 million dollar payroll (third biggest behind the Yankees and Redsox) because they are apart of the Los Angeles media market, not because they are apart of a non-existent Orange County media market.

I want to know where the hell the Dbacks are getting there money from. Seriously, there needs to be some kind of investigation. I thought this team was bankrupt and in debt. Yet in one week they sign Troy Glaus, Russ Ortiz, Craig Counsell, and Royce Clayton. I thought this team was going to get rid of high priced free agents and start building through there farm system. I guess Garagiola is a bigger idiot than I thought.

The word out here in San Diego is that the Padres have signed Woody Williams. The Padres might also sign David Wells to a contract before the Winter meetings. The Padres are not exactly getting younger are they.
-
They do have a DC logo on their MLB website Personally, I think they should be called the DC Nationals.
-
So, what do you guys think of the name Los Angeles Angels.
-
I don't know about that. The last thing I think the Padres need is another Ismael Valdez. Last year Valdez had a 3.03 ERA at Petco but a 8.88 ERA on the road. That really did end up hurting the Pads in the long run. I do think the Padres should go after Javier Vasquez. They could trade Phil Nevin to New York straight up for Vasquez. Nevin had a good year with 26 HR and 105 RBI. Although I am not sure if NY is looking for a first baseman.

Let me just say this about the NL ROY, The Pirates still sucked last year with or without Jason Bay. If the Padres don't have Khalil Greene, they are not even a playoff contender. Khalil Greene also plays in a much tougher position. I guess the ROY award is now just an offensive award.
-
You're right, last year they didn't have a good offensive line or defense, but that was last year. Their Offensive line is much improved and they have a good rush defense. In one day the Chargers have added Keenan McCardell and Bobby Shaw. This move proves that the Chargers think they can make a run at the postseason. What their chances are, I don't know. But I do know that McCardell is the best reciever the chargers have had since Tony Martin.
-
You say that as if teams have not tried that. The Chargers have scored 72 points in the last two games. It was the improved play of Drew Brees and the emergence of TE Antonio Gates, that were the reason for San Diego's success. LT didn't even play in the second half against the Jags. Also take note that Jacksonville's defense had not allowed a RB to gain 100 yard rushing against them in 17 games. The Chargers Running back gained 103 against them, but it wasn't LaDanian Tomlinson, it was his back up Jesse Chatman.

This still comes as a shock to me, even with the steriod and cocaine usage. I will still try to look past that and remember him with fond memories. He was my favorite player with the Padres in the 90s. I will remember the great plays he made at 3rd base or his clutch home runs, like the one he did in the 10th against the Braves in the NLCS. I always thought he would get cleaned up and take a job within the Padres organization. Even through all his troubles, I will miss him and remember the good parts about his life, not the bad.

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can we have another thread next week about how MLB wants a Red Sox/Yankees ALCS again so the Angels and Twins will get BUTT-fucked on every call? What the Fuck are you talking about. I have never started a thread about that, I have however made posts about it. But I have never felt strongly enough about it to start an actual thread. I don't like the dodgers winning because I know how weak that team is on starting pitching and will most likely get swept by the Cardinals. Plus, I just plain don't like the Dodgers.
-
Steve FUCKING Finley, You have got to be shittin me. DePodesta didn't pull the trigger on Finley, he was a hand wrapped gift from the Joe Garigiola Jr and the Arizona Diamondbacks. I can't stand LA winning the west.

God forbid a team make the playoffs without any ~ESPN STARS~ I mean that is what baseball is all about, right. Elite teams with "Superstars" that ESPN and Fox can get behind. Hell, get rid of the rest of the league and trim it down to six teams. Then the "real" teams won't have to deal with "little" teams that nobody cares about. Because we all know that if you don't care about a team, nobody does. You do know that the Cardinals would have to face David Wells and Jake Peavy in the first two games. I guess you never heard the phrase that good pitching stops good hitting.
-
What do you think about Jake Peavy? I know he is going to win the ERA title, but what do you think his chances are of getting serious consideration for the Cy Young?
-
-
Ok, I know it was the ALCS two years ago, but I threw out those two teams because it is two teams that people have taken shots at in the Twins thread and in this thread. What does Fox have to do with it? Seriously Fuck Fox and their monopoly on Baseball. I don't care if it is the Royals and the Devil Rays, if they made it there, they deserve to be there. This is very personal to me because I am San Diego Padre fan, a team that will be dumped on whenever they make the post season. This is something that has happened in their history. I'll give you an example: In 1984 the Padres went to their first NLCS, against the Cubs. Everybody in the national media wanted it to be a Detroit Tigers/Chicago Cubs World Series. The Cubs went up 2-0 in the series and it looked like it was going to happen. But the Padres came back to win the series 3-2. It was almost as if the national media was outraged that the Padres went to the World Series over the Cubs. In fact, after that series MLB changed the LCS to a best of 7 series, because the Padres didn't beat the Cubs, the Cubs just ran out of games. In 1998 the Padres spoiled the plans again. 98 was a so called magical year in baseball. It was the McGwire/Sosa home run chase and the year the Yankees won 114 games. It seemed everyone wanted another Braves/Yankees World Series but Padres spoiled by soundly defeating the Braves. Bob Costas almost had a heart attack. The media said they were grateful that at least the Yankees made the series and they were not stuck with a Padres/Indians World Series. You're not going to sell me on history or tradition because they really have no place in baseball today. It's nice to look at during the off season but has no place during the season. I learned at an early age to dislike baseball elitist and will always take joy when a team spoils there big plans.
