It wasn't the most valuable team award. It was the most valuable player. Guerrero carried his team throughout the whole year, and had less protection than Ortiz and Ramirez. It's the reason he won it. He was the one guy on the team that stayed healthy, and still kept producing without protection. Plus, he took the team on his shoulders and got them into the playoffs. No way in hell they make the playoffs without him, not even close. Boston would atleast have a chance of making the playoffs (probably would have anyway) with the pitching staff they had.

Baker just got resigned. He's going to be a FA in 2 years. Penny is also going to be a free agent in 2 years, although he's making 14,625,000. But his expiring contract next year should be able to get us someone decent in return.

Thats why I wanted that Kurt Thomas + filler for Zydrunas Ilgauskas trade. Big Z and Sweetney together would have been tons better. But with all the expiring contracts we have next year, (TT, Penny, Mohammed, Moochie, Baker) we should be able to net a real starting center.
