    NFC Vikings vs Eagles

I was watching the NFL Network and at the post game press conference Freddie Mitchell said the following: "I want to thank my hands for being so great" Discuss...

AFC Divisional Game 1; Jets vs Steelers

Oh and they were supposed to move the ball up and down the field all day on the Pittsburgh defense, and deserve NO CREDIT for causing the turnovers right? Under normal circumstances I would agree with you but I completely understand the logic here a) had the first FG been one yard closer Brien would have made it b) there was no wind so the conditions werent really that bad even though he was on the river side of the field (I think) . The bottom line is Brien has to make the second FG so its not on Herman Edwards IMO.

AFC Divisional Game 1; Jets vs Steelers

Never mind the fact that he got his team to play an OUTSTANDING game lets find some bullshit reason to blindly rip on the coach.

Why do you hate ... who you hate?

Being a Tampa sports fan I pretty much hate all teams from Philly but beyond that: MLB: Yankees: Not only because of their fans and management but because Tampa is fucking Yankee South and I cant stand that. NFL: Panthers: Not only because they're a divisional rival but because they seem to win in the most fluky ways ever. I'm still not convinced Jake Delhomme is a good QB he throws off target all the time and his recievers somehow come down with the ball, I just hate watching them cause theyre really not that good. Rams: Mike Martz, need I say more NHL: Panthers: While the Lightning got jobbed in their expansion draft the Panthers were set up to be competitive from day one and were 4 games away from winning the Cup (thank you Patrick Roy). Plus they've had douchebags like Peter Worrell on their team. It just gave me great joy to watch Rick Dudley do NOTHING with them and get fired after two years.

Vikings don't want Joe Buck to announce the game

You have to understand that the NFL is a massive stuffy corporate entity, that is very prudish in the way it does business (in some ways). I am an unabashed fan of Joe Buck and think he is one of the 5 best play-by-play guys in sports bar-none. I have NEVER seen him go on a moral high horse prior to the Moss incident. At any rate, if he were to make light of the situation which may have been his first intuition, would he be fired for this week's game? Probably not. However, he would have made enemies in the league office and may have gotten demoted next year. The NFL only wants certain types that will make the league look good broadcasting in its premier spots. Buck not going off on the Moss mooning would have pissed the higher-ups off to no end. I'm not saying I agree but it is (in my opinion), the reality of the situation.

Vikings don't want Joe Buck to announce the game

THANK YOU for bringing that up MIB I thought I was the only one on the planet who understood that. Buck going off on Moss was something he HAD to do cause it wouldnt look good to the NFL suits if he didnt. Any announcer put in that position would do the same thing I guarantee you.

Jets vs Chargers AFC WildCard Game 1

I keep getting reminded theres a reason why Schottenheimer's 5-11 in the playoffs.

Jets vs Chargers AFC WildCard Game 1

Slasher Flick if youre around looks like you may be right after all although I still think the Chargers are better than the 2001 Bears.

    First NFL coach fired

Here's a comparison for you: Gregg Williams in Buffalo 2001 vs. Billick in Baltimore 2002 both very young teams w/ suspect QB's one goes 3-13 while the other goes 7-9 tell me coaching isnt a factor there. One team listened to their coach and damn near made the playoffs the other fell squarely on their ass. Also dont underestimate him pulling Tony Banks either sure it was an obvious move from a fans perspective but very few coaches (even good ones) have the balls to pull a starting QB with a winning record (Banks was 5-3 as a starter) no matter how bad he's playing.

With the NFL Regular Season Over

I guess I'm one of the few who is not sold on Braylon Edwards, sure he'll probably go high in the draft but Michigan wide recievers for the most part do not have a good history in the NFL and I really dont see Edwards being any different.

    First NFL coach fired

Cause more times than not he gets the most out of teams no matter what the talent level is. Screw the Super Bowl year, remember two years ago when the Ravens werent supposed to win 4 games and have the No.1 pick in the draft? Well they almost made the playoffs cause they draft really well and b) Billick got the most out of a VERY young team. Also, while I love ripping on Trent Dilfer as much as the next guy (and being a Buc fan that SB almost made me quit the NFL) do you think they would have gone anywhere had Billick not pulled Tony Banks? I think not. I dont care how good that Defense was, Tony Banks would have continued to find ways to lose. Dont get me wrong his QB choices have been suspect to say the least but to say Brian Billick isnt a good coach is absurd.

Gates tailed off at the end of the year and he wont do jack against Pittsburgh

    The Wildcard Weekend Thread

Thats the thing though its not just Big Ben, they have a dynamic running game and a killer defense as well. Say San Diego and Indy win this week which I expect that they will. The Chargers would then go to Pittsburgh and while they will likely keep it close and slow down the running game theres too many holes in that secondary and Roethlisberger will take advantage of them. Plus, Brees and Tomlinson will be neutralized by the Pittsburgh defense cause while they can score the Chargers are a couple players short of taking advantage of the Steelers weakenesses. I've seen the Steelers about 5-6 times this year don't believe the hype? No. Believe it.

    The Wildcard Weekend Thread

I really dont see how you can say that after Pittsburgh beat a pretty decent Buffalo team handily (score really wasnt an indicator) with second and third stringers, I gotta believe this is mostly wishful thinking on your part. I will say that I think a healthy New England team matches up best with them but I dont think they have the horses to beat Pittsburgh this year.

    The Wildcard Weekend Thread

So what, they beat the teams they were supposed to beat and usually not in some fluke fashion. Thats what good teams do. Plus, I wouldnt dismiss Jacksonville, Denver and even Houston as a pushover. Those are solid teams that San Diego beat. They had Indy on the ropes in the 4th quarter before they blew it. Now granted, that shows an inability to close a game which will catch up to them in the playoffs and it keeps them from being a Super Bowl contender in my opinion. However, that wont affect them at all next week against the Jets.

    The Wildcard Weekend Thread

Dont even try comparing the 2001 Bears to this years Chargers. The Chargers are a legitamately very good football team. The Bears were more of a .500 team but won 5 games they really had no business winning. Philly exposed them for the frauds that they were in the playoffs.

    The Wildcard Weekend Thread

Heres my predictions for next week: Seattle will wake up and beat St. Louis. The Seahawks can be really good when they want to be and the Rams are just so bad that I cant see them winning for a 3rd straight time. The Seahawks will take a big lead with the Rams making it interesting late in the game but this time Seattle will hang on. The Chargers will not only beat the Jets they will blow them out. Chad Pennington sucks on the road right now and I dont see that changing against a pretty good Charger defense. Plus the Rams exposed holes in the Jets secondary *coughsDavidBarrettcoughs* Look for 35-14 esque romp here. Indy and Denver will be an interesting game and maybe the best matchup of the week. I look for a fairly tight game but I dont trust Jake Plummer to win a playoff game on the road. He'll have at least 2 picks and the Colts will win 34-20 Green Bay will once again beat Minnesota. The Vikings choked once again today but still backed in the playoffs and while they may make it competitive I simply cannot picture them going into Lambeau and beating the Packers.

    ESPN's Top 10 games of 2004

Being a Lightning fan I am definitely biased here but heres why I say that Game 6 trumps the Calgary Vancouver Game 6. The Lightning were IN CALGARY down 3-2 in the finals with most of Canada rooting against them and found a way to win in Triple OT. On top of that it was an extremely well played game with a little controversy thrown in. On the other hand, anyone who followed the Canucks just knew that they were gonna find a way to make it interesting, a 4-0 lead after 2 periods was too good to be true. Plus, I found that game to be fairly sloppy on both ends. Don't get me wrong it was really dramatic and very fun to watch but I think a Game 6 of a Cup Final definitely trumps a first round dramatic but sloppy game.

    SNL Review

When I read that reply its pretty apparent to me that you only watch SNL when they have a big name or stunt host and dont follow the show on a regular basis. Theres nothing wrong with that so let me fill you on some things. If you want to see a horrific impression of W. I refer you to Darrell Hammonds "attempt" at Bush last November or to a lesser extent, Chris Parnell's Bush impression in the 02-03 season. Forte is no Will Ferrell and there will never be a Bush impression that is as good as his was. However, Forte is more than passable in the role and does a good job. Also, In his 2 + seasons in the show Forte has established himself as a force in sketches and on Weekend Update. Aside from the Kermit sketch you mentioned, Tim Calhoun was a massive hit among SNL fans as was to a lesser degree The Falconer. His one time sketches such as the Speed Reader and the almost too hot for TV Benny Hill Jesus also earned him praise from fans as well. He has also had several memorable Update segments such as The Will Forte Sex Tape (a parody of Paris Hilton's) and a hysterical Black History Month commentary. I just wanted to fill you in on this since you dont really follow the show.

    NHL Observation

The most absurd thing about that morning show isnt Kit Hoover its Jay Crawford the jackass who hosts the thing. I'm from Tampa and I watched this hack on local TV for years and the fact that this guy got a national gig and Chris Thomas (RIP) never did pisses me off to this day. (Note: you wont get that last sentence unless youre either from Tampa or are an older guy from Baltimore but I just have a problem with Crawford)

    Worst Song(s) of the Year

You cant have a thread about the worst songs of the year without mentioning Three Days Grace. What a fucking atrocious band!!! As if "I Hate Everything About You" and "Just Like You" werent bad enough they decide to release "Home" with the most tackiest (sp?) lyrics I have vever heard in my lifetime. Definitely the bottom feeders of the teen angst post-grunge bands.
  25. He was quite good on the Daily Show, for a short time there he was actually a media darling but once everybody got a hard on for Jon Stewart (not completely unwarranted mind you) followed by the CBS show doing the suck and tank then everyone pretty much turned on him.
