One of my friends ran up a $300 phone bill on the WWF superstar line and he was subsequently banned from watching the show for 6 months

To Kinetic: Don't be so easy and jump off the bandwagon just because of one game. Did they suck yesterday? No question. However, jumping off the bandwagon because of one game is ludicrous. Did anybody think the Pats would go 14-2 after getting destroyed by Buffalo. No (and if anybody says yes theyre lying). The defense is still damn good and the offense is a work in progress because they brought in so many new guys. Tim Brown and Charlie Garner did not forget how to play football they just had one bad game. One more thing, to Banky, The Bitch or whatever the hell your name is this week I want to see you eat your words when the Bucs go 11-5 and win the division, you ass!

I was once told I look like the little kid with glasses in Little Giants.... Come to think of it, I still do. *hangs head in shame*

Steve Levy's stuff on the SC special was just tremendous. Him cutting a promo on I believe it was NYU in the pre-SC Anchor segment and the "bulging dick" was GOLD. Overall, the special was great, yeah the raps were a little over the top but I could deal with it.

There have been far worse VMA's than that last night (2001 anybody?), not to say the show was good but it wasn't unwatchable (at least to me). A few of the highlights for me was the Keyes, Stevie, and Kravitz collaboration, the Jimmy Fallon segment with "Gary the announcer" (AKA lesser known SNL cast member Will Forte), and Dave Chapelle's two appearances (even though he wasn't overly funny he had full command of the show when he was out there). MEMO TO MTV: CHAPELLE MUST HOST NEXT YEAR! IMO, he has the potential to top Chris Rock's 97 hosting performance which was the best VMA hosting job ever.

God forbid the greatest pitcher in the last 30 years knows when he's running out of gas. He must overextend himself every time and have nothing left for October right?

Thus introducing Glen Sathers new policy: affirmative action.

I'm no sure if this topic was done a while ago since I'm relatively new here but I want to know who you guys like among the current Sportscenter crop. Personally, I really enjoy Scott Van Pelt and Matt Winer both of whom are out standing. Van Pelt is the total package (hip, smart, and funny) and Winer is a tremendous straightman who could develop into a play-by-play announcer at some point. Plus he is one of the few who are good at asking questions. Anyway who do you like and why?

I dont have a problem with your opinion of Eisen as a broadcaster while I strongly disagree with it. However I have to call you out on this: You are the first person I've ever heard say anything bad about him personally. Every other account of him I've heard says that he is a pro on camera and off and a great guy. How would you know this, No.1 and No.2 what did he do screw an ex-girlfriend or something. To be honest, as long as he didnt hit the girl it wouldnt change my opinion of him.

Max how are you getting LCS? We're stuck with wall to wall coverage of Hurricane Charley up here.
-
I dont know, he's still obviously employed ESPN but he really doesn't do SC much anymore. Buccigross is a hack that sucks up to Barry Melrose all the time IMO. And no love for Patrick or Eisen when talking about longtime anchors or anchors from the past?

BOOOOO..... Linda is also one of my favorites and has been for a long time. She knows her stuff and can probably kick your ass too.

Kenny Mayne is brilliant. He has such a unique, dry delivery that is definitely an acquired taste but once you get it you love it.

Ley and Steiner were consumate professionals. (save for Steiner's occasional hilarious meltdowns but its not like it happened in every show) I've already shared my opinion of Dan and Keith, and Rich Eisen and Stuart Scott had great chemistry. Eisen may be one of the 10 best SC Anchors ever, and he seems like a very solid individual to boot. Stuart Scott can do a good job when he wants to. However, he is simply too full of himself to do it on a consistent basis

The Y2K and Evander commercials are in my top 3 all time SC commercials. He was a great anchor and I look forward to tonights show.

I definitely think 1994 would have been the White Sox's year. They had the total package, good starting pitching, GREAT hitting, and a very solid bullpen. Montreal as good as they were just smelled like a September swoon team for me and I think the Braves would have eventually caught them. (with that said, the Expos would still be the Wild Card anyway). The Yankees, Indians, and especially the very weak Rangers and Dodgers were short on pitching. So to sum it up it would have been the Braves and White Sox in the World Series with Chicago winning in 5 or 6 games IMO.

Keith Olbermann and Dan Patrick were the best team on Sportscenter ever...period. The chemistry between them was incredible and they had the personality and sports knowledge to match. The reason why Olbermann wasn't asked back is because he is/was a complete nightmare to work with or for. This is why he is constantly moving around which is a shame because he is an incredible talent.

Craiggers was definitely rusty at first but seems to be getting into it now. His late night show may suck ass but he was OUTSTANDING at SportsCenter. I don't mind catchphrases if you're good at it and Craig was great.

Ok, I'll concede the 1995 point. However, I strongly disagree with your assesment that the postseason results are not a good indicator of a manger's success. A manager's career is made (and sometimes broken) in the post season. That doesn't neccessarilly mean you MUST win multiple World Series all of the time but you MUST win when the talent is there to back you up IMO. When you look at the talented teams that Johnson had he shouldnt have only one WS ring. He should have won in 1988 and 1997, there is no excuse for that.
-
Davey is a good manager but he didn't consistently get the most out of his teams. He completely botched the 88 NLCS by having a tired Dwight Gooden work the ninth inning with a 4-2 lead and nobody warming up in the bullpen in Game 4. The Dodgers tied the game with a Mike Scoscia HR and eventually won it in the 12th inning. The Mets were swimming upstream for the rest of the series. In his Reds tenure, they were quickly losing ground to the Astros when the strike hit and who knows whether they would have won the division. In 1995, that team should have beaten the Braves and moved on to the World Series (although I dont think they had enough to beat Cleveland that year). In Baltimore he should have at least won in 1997. There is no excuse for using Armando Benitez when he blew a game (3?) earlier in the series and he gave up the home run to TONY FERNANDEZ! At any rate, Johnson is definitely a good manager but if he was truly great IMO he would have at least two more World Series rings based on the teams he had to work with.
-
So let me get this straight you guys love a manager that left Dwight Gooden out to rot in 88 then subsequently underachieved in Cincinatti and Baltimore. (could have won a WS in Cincy and definitely should have won a WS in Baltimore) and was a miserable flop in LA??? Davey Johnson... good manager, yes. Great manager? no Highly overrated? Hell yes!

Derek "Operation Shutdown" Bell (dont think he's even active anymore) is one of the ugliest people on the face of the earth, period.
-
Oops... my bad I actually thought you guys were still in it but I (obviously) haven't looked closely at the NL East in a few days. Still, Zambrano is not a good pick-up for you guys. I feels sorry for Mets fans since I actually like to see them do well (since my Dad is an old Met fan and my favorite team ever is the 86 Mets.)
-
All I got to say to Mets fans is have fun with Vicky. I just got completely frustrated with somebody who has such good stuff yet pitches like a total wuss. The guy couldn't handle Tampa Bay and now he's gonna be in a pennant race??? Good Luck. Plus, it looks like we picked up a pitcher who could be in the bigs as soon as next year. We need starting pitching both in the farm system and with the big club (which will probably have to wait until the fall for that). Good job Chuck, keep bringing the team in the right direction (finally).
