Nastiest head drops in wrestling history.
thecitythesky replied to The Mandarin's topic in General Wrestling
* I can't be certain. But there was the three-way with Ace Steel and Vic Capri that Punk had in 2003-ish that involved him taking a half-nelson suplex from Capri where he gets thrown and comes straight down on the top of his head. Which was super scary to watch considering it was after the fractured skull thing. -
* You are aware that they cannot possibly bring Lesnar in for a nearly excessive amount of time, right.?

This team pleases me. Rinauro and Lacey better watch their backs then. Lacey, was smart to attach herself to the head trainer of ROH. In roh, that's basically pulling a HHH on the promotion. Since Gabe doesn't have a daughter. * Considering that they've been dating for longer than Aries has been wrestling for the company. It's really a non-issue.

So the NWA/TNA title is a world title....damn. * Yes actually, it's the NWA World Title.

The (You-Tube) Shoot-Style Thread
thecitythesky replied to RavishingRickRudo's topic in General Wrestling
* I'll preface this by saying that I do enjoy "shoot-style" professional wrestling. However, the consistant problem that I have with it is that in an effort to make the matches seems legitimate as "shoots" the fighters frequently take chances and put themselves in positions that a real fighter in a real fight would do their best to avoid. That and that the styles appeals to those fans who enjoy actual athetic competition, and to really get the full effect of the work being done; one would have to at least have a familiarity with shoot-fighting. This familiarity takes away quite a bit from the perceived legitimacy. I do particularly enjoy the pure aspects of it, as well as its ability to avoid what are otherwise the duller moments of MMA and shoots in general (namely, the lengthy periods which tend to arise that-while important strategicall-are more or less boring to most viewers). But it is the "working" attributes that seems to easily slippery slope into what is more commonly past off as professional wrestling in the modern era. To appeal over a long period to a large amount of people there really needs to be some kind of emotional investment (i.e. give *me* the viewer a reason to want fighter A to win, since, given that it's a work, winners and losers can't simply be chosen in an arbitrary fashion). This gives way to more defined characters which begets more and more pagentry to separate the participants. I think it's clear where this is going and that somewhere down the line the pure representation of the artform gets filtered down in an effort to sustain itself. Shoot-style can and should have its runs; but there is no real way for it to sustain itself. Especially with actual MMA gaining ground and visability; as well as becoming increasingly more exciting. If one wants to watch worked competition, there is an outlet for that (certainly not on par with UWF, et al), and if one wants to watch two (wo)men oppose one another to see who is the better fighter - there is an outlet for that as well. -
Arik Cannon. But that dirty bastard Chris Hero destroyed the belt moments after he won it.

* He seems to have taken a cue and some image advice from midwest alumnus Dan "Casual" Sexton.

Number one contender tournament on RAW
thecitythesky replied to MikeJordan23's topic in The WWE Folder
* Here's the quick and dirty of I think it would make the most sense given that Hunter is getting the Wrestlemania match: RVD d. Carlito -Clean. .. it doesn't really matter. Masters d. Kane -Masters is in the middle of a push; Kane is more or less hovering and won't really lose or gain anything from this - as he's not winning the thing. Hunter d. Flair -He's taking the whole thing. Show d. HBK -via Vince & co. interference. ... RVD d. Masters -via backfiring Carlito interference Hunter d. Show -Show doesn't really lose anything. It won't be clean. ... Hunter d. Carlito -Dirty. Carlito interferes successfully. Carlito v. RVD at Wrestlemania. Hunter wins gets the Wrestlemania shot. Do the Carlito/Masters match at the PPV-lite RAW (it's not the kind of thing you can draw out for months). -

50 greatest workers of all time elimination suggestions
thecitythesky replied to milliondollarchamp's topic in General Wrestling
* I think the inherent problem in limiting the list in that way is that many Canadian/US workers would be included on the basis of the inclusion of their work in Japan. Such that a Dynamite Kid/Hansen/Williams/Destroyer may get included in a spot higher than his strictly US/Canada work would put him because of the strength of his work in outside of the areas included for consideration. -
* Throughout the entire thing, regardless of validity, Gunn seems like one bitter guy. Most of his diatribe is based on the notion that he believes he could've been some upper-tier guy... but the fact of the matter is that Vince and Co. gave him push after push and he just couldn't remain over as a singles wrestler. He like the charisma and the ability to get it done by himself at that level. And considering the turn that the company has taken in the wake of Eddie's death, I can't imagine how or why anyone would sympathize with the "He told people we were doing drugs.!" Ulterior motives or not, that's not really a heavy compaint you can lodge against a person. The bottom line is that I think that both of those guys are talented tag wrestlers, but that's about the end of it. (Note: I will grant them the point on the Orton thing. And also Note: I am by no means a Hunter apologist.)

Jimmy Jacobs throws IWA title down
thecitythesky replied to The Decemberists's topic in General Wrestling
* Jimmy Jacobs punishment; phase 1: "We have a main event for the Indianapolis show on Friday night December 16th at the Capital Sports Center. Non Title/No DQ/No Countout/Pinfalls Count Anywhere Jimmy Jacobs vs. NEW JACK" Credit: Jimmy Jacobs Livejournal/IWA-MS messageboard. This is that happens when you fuck a stranger in the ass. -
* Well, considering that the two of them are supposed to hate each other, and after the abrupt "shoot" ending to their previous match, it certainly makes sense that there wouldn't be a lot of pretty mat sequences or rope-running doesn't it.?
-
* That's the point. No one from this whole deal is necessarily going to even be in line for a full time gig in ROH. Just like in the territory days, the local hero has little to no chance on the grand scale against the man who is truly at the top of the mountain. The important thing is that the local audience, the paying fans, have faith in their local man who, to them, is at the top of the figurative foothill. Granted, now that everything is (inter)national with the speed of the spread of information, the gimmick doesn't really work.

Worst excuse to get out of a job/angle?
thecitythesky replied to Epic Reine's topic in General Wrestling
* I want to say that more than one job is covered by that excuse. The worst being the Brock one prior to the HITC match that got changed to a DQ. But don't hold be to that specific instance. -
I've been feeling sad over WWE depriving me of Paul Burchill's best work, to be honest with you. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> He's good? Go figure. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> http://www.fwaonlineplus.co.uk/mm/high/mon...momentshigh.zip Check these free videos out of him from the FWA site. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> * You know, everytime anyone calls Burchill's ability into question (or, more accurately, i suppose, points to having never seen it) they get linked to those same FWA clips. And really, since when does doing a bunch of cool moves for guys willing to bump like ragdolls make anybody a good wrestler.?

Matches for next Hardcore Homecoming announced
thecitythesky replied to GreatWhiteNope's topic in General Wrestling
* See, but the thing is that Ian actually can wrestle. Unfortunately the nature of the beast is that bleeding buckets pays more and that he's certainly shown a willingness to do it for whatever reason. It's a shame. And I've personally spoken to Coporal(sp?) Robinson on the issue and he would much prefer wrestle straight matches but at the end of the day, for better or worse, it comes down to $$$. -
* As stupid and terrible as it's going to come across on telelvision, the only way for this to go is, to me at least, a Sharmell turn on Booker (after he's dismissive of Sharmell's underhanded tactics) where she finds someone who is willing to accept and appreciate her help and use them to show Booker what for; that she was only doing what she did to help her man get ahead. I don't think it'll be good TV, but that seems to be the only way to go with this and not get exceptionally more retarded.
-
* No, they don't expect the midgets to draw. This is why they aren't building the show around them or putting them in main event calibur angles. And, no, they don't expect midget wrestling to not look carny-esque. I don't mean to speak for anyone at Titan; but I'm fairly certain that's actually the point - to make it out as a sideshow style attraction. Which, if it gets over in the slightest with the crowd as such in the coming weeks will have more than accomplished its intended goal.

Man, when I was a manager of a district HQ I used to get a $100 bonus every month for simply doing my job and having the place clean and up on time. Now, that seems simple enough (and was, more or less, factored into my salary) but if I fucked up once, once, I lost said bonus. Really, all they're asking is that people do the job they've been asked/assigned to do. None of this is really unreasonable.
-
* I think I'm the only person I've ever heard of that's so enamored with the Dibiase/Roberts match from WM VI. To me, at least, if fabulous from top to bottom. With Roberts continually going for the DDT, after delivering (in my opinion) one of the awesomest promos ever, and Dibiase dropping out of it; all the way to the manager save into the DQ finish showing Dibiase's desperation. Sure, the non-finish may trouble some - but it's a mid-card/feud lengthening bout in the middle of a card when we can really only demand that the main event angles be ended, lest we be without anything to care about the future for.
-
But the company's name is nowhere to be found. Certainly the IWGP title goes hand-in-hand with New Japan, but so is the "Triple Crown" and AJPW; the latter of which would be neat and vague while the former is not.? EDIT: Yes. Yes it does. Huge and like a million fucking dollars.

Will The Pepsi Plunge Be Seen On WWE TV?
thecitythesky replied to daileyxplanet's topic in The WWE Folder
You think Baker caught any shit from the guys in Junkyard for sporting that tat? They were pretty much stereotypical poodleheads ... and I can't see a band like that being too into the Coca-Cola tattoo. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Considering Brian Baker was in Junkyard, I don't think so. Also, I'm not terribly familiar with the term "poodlehead". So, I suppose you may be right... . If it's some sort of rebellion, anti-corporate thing; doubtful. .. seeing as they were on Geffen. -

I don't think that Ian Mackaye (singer for Minor Threat, among other bands) actually has a Coke tattoo ... he just used Coke as a symbol for his not drinking liquor. From what I remember, Ian doesn't have any tats. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You are correct. However, Brian Baker (also of Minor Threat, Dag Nasty, et al) does have the Coke logo tattoo.
